Simps - you better yet? mind you i hear hair of the dog works well too
M&J ok?

LaT - enjoy, speak to you soon (you're back in Spain for a few days right then back t the UK?)

All ok here, was thinking we might get through a whole day without even the absence seizures then H had about 10 in quick succession just before bedtime

But hey, hardly anything really - am keeping a proper diary of them as well as his sleep patterns and will see if anything comes of that.

got some lovely red wine on the go
T running about, best go and put him back in bed....

H fine, about 10 absences in quick succession just before bed. otherwise no activity of concern.

T still running about, grr, will try again to post & gain to get him to bed.

JustKeepSwimming · 04/05/2009 19:42

oops !

not so bastard then, sorry cat!

madmouse · 04/05/2009 19:46

Hi all

JKS sorry about the absences, be assured they are just about the most innocent type of fit. At least now you know you have not imagined it.

well, no lovely bbq with friends, I started throwing up at 1pm and dh rang our friends to cancel. Having had a really tough week spending the afternoon with my close friends was what i had been looking forward to . Still feeling rough but seem to have stopped being sick, good cos it gives me panic attacks.

DH also a bit rough round the edges but coping, although stressed out after having nathan all afternoon and doing bedtime - that will teach him lol.

Yes not feeling too good here too

I thought it was a hang over but think its what the kids have instead.

M much better and ate 3 teas Only wants very bland food and even had a couple of Ella's kitchen pouches.

J not good at all although no sick yet. But he says his tummy is sore

He will not be going to school tomorrow.

M went to bed at 6.30 and is really trying my patience as she is still crying intermittently. She is deffo trying it on because she has been nursed to much while ill. Grrr...

LaT - "speak" to you in a few days...

JKS - Enjoy your glass of red

Madmouse - hope you feel better soon..

Lilyloo · 04/05/2009 22:12

Evening all
Have been over to Leeds for weekend so just catching up!

Sorry to hear of all poorly lo's with coughs and colds. And Simps and MM

JKS good news about the hol i guess at least you don't need to make any quick decisions there. If you don't mind me asking what happens with H absence seizures ? (feel free to ignore) Glad you have managed to have a rest today though. Mooching is good

LaT have good flight!

Hey to others Ange , Ginge , Nicky etc
Sorry if missed anyone tired!

M can now get herself into the highchair at mil's as of today And out when she was strapped in with reins double

JustKeepSwimming · 05/05/2009 06:46

Lily - welcome back good weekend?

When H has an absence seizure, his head dips/nods and his eyes sort of 'roll' upwards.
so it looks like he's bending his head down while trying to still look up at you - except his eyes aren't focused.
Does that make sense?
have tried to catch some on camera to show on FB but it's tricky!

Your M is amazing how did she get out???

Simps - how are you all feeling today? H & T both have gunky eyes, coughs, runny noses. I can feel i am starting too.
giving T a few more hours to see how he is by pre-school time. IMO colds are always worse first thing so hoping he's ok later.
(one advantage of waking at dawncrack....)

crap night here - DH this time he woke me up at 3.15 to tell me he was going down to get a drink
then kept me awake tossing and turning until he disturbed H who woke coughing and crying - dirnk & neurofen - he went back to sleep, and so, eventually, did the rest of us.

Then H woke at 5.55 and woke everyone up.

Madmouse - you feeling better today? good practice for DH, lol

right, need to get beds stripped and breakfast started...

madmouse · 05/05/2009 08:22

Hi all

JKS why did dh wake you to say he was getting a drink???

I am mostly better, bit queasy still, had toast but cannot stand normal tea, just made some herbal. Now dh is mooching about feeling less than stellar. Looks like we will all get it then . Lucky dh has the strongest stomach of all of us and unlike me is not afraid of being sick so hopefully he will be better as quickly as Nathan and me.

Nathan was awake at 7 (or before - but that is when i heard him!) chattering away in his cot, talking singing bababababababbadadadadada endlessly, made me laugh!

Simpson hope you feel better too!

Hi Lily, laughing at your M, still no change there then with your little circus artiste!

JustKeepSwimming · 05/05/2009 08:32

LOL MadMouse - i hadn't thought to ask hiim but i just did and his answer:

"i woke up worried because of talking to the alarm man (we are going to get one fitted asap, he came to visit yesterday) and then realised i didn't have my phone so wanted to go down to get it, but didn't want you to worry so lied and said i was getting a drink so you wouldn't worry"
"and i thought you were awake"

riiiight.
told him:
a) i was asleep
b) i had my phone anyway
c) if you'd just gone and got your phone and come back to bed all of us would've slept better

silly man!

simpson · 05/05/2009 09:09

Morning all

Lilyloo - How on earth does M manage it??

Madmouse - glad you are feeling a bit better...pity about BBQ yesterday..

JKS - Your silly DH How are boys today, not too snotty i hope?

Well J seems much better. I was going to keep him off school today but he wants to go.

M seems fine too but its going to take a few days to get up her appetite back up. But the whinging is doing my head in!!

Think she has got used to being carried everywhere over the last few days and wants my undivided attention all the time..

simpson · 05/05/2009 09:13

Forgot to say MIL goes home tomorrow

But seems to be planning a massive visit end of June with both SILs and DH's 2 neices.

They will stay in B & B round the corner. Trying not to think of that right now!!

JustKeepSwimming · 05/05/2009 16:41

Simps - a b&b will be ok though, no moving the dcs

both boys snotty but not too bad.

got MRI appt through for thurs (& )

will book T into nursery for the day if poss.

best sort tea...

madmouse · 05/05/2009 16:46

hurrah for quick MRI date - but scared with you

OP posts:
simpson · 05/05/2009 16:58

JKS - great news for thursday. At least you won't have to keep waiting.

Will they give you results there and then?

M been sick twice since 3pm. She was sick at 3.10 (bright orange - carrots) and I didn't have time to clean it all off her before picking J up at 3.15 so she went round to the school with her still slightly orange

She has gone to bed already and will probably just give her dry food tomorrow...

madmouse · 05/05/2009 17:02

Simpson MRI results will go to doctor to be interpreted - so no results on the day normally

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 05/05/2009 17:42

Simps - yuk for sick! took H to pre-sch in buggy with a jumper and jeans thrown on tp of sleepsuit! made sure i tucked his feet under a blanket

T got picked on by 2 older girls in pre-sch, they pulled his hair and hit his head so they are in BIG trouble. the 'head' was v keen to tell me all the measures, time out (20 min ), meetings with parents, etc. i was a bit - he can fend for himself!
He was mostly upset that one had said sorry and one hadn't and he gets v hung up on whether people say sorry

MM is right, sure we won't get any results on the day - same as the EEG, it's 'just' an operator doing the test, an interpreter needs to read the results properly. (dunno proper job titles!)
and the local consultant said he wanted to send the results to Great Ormond Street for their specialist(s) to look at so it might take even longer to get an official response.
wat i'm hoping is that the local guy gives us a 'rough idea' of what he sees.

Did you say what N's said? will scroll down and look in a mo. no idea what kind of thing
they could find...tumours, lesions?????

Did lovely pasta bake (just from a jar) for tea, H and I wolfed it down, T said....'YUK'
so had plain bread and butter before he was allowed raspberries and chocolate mousse. fair nuff was a strong tasting sauce, but H loves pasta regardless

right, waffling now, off to search for mri results....

madmouse · 05/05/2009 17:47

JKS Nathan has small patches in his brain that have been starved of oxygen due to blood clots getting in the way of oxygen supply. No one is sure why he had blood clots.

Tumours are extremely rare and i somehow would not expect it in H's case. Different symptoms.

Most likely if they find anything as I have said before would be a small amount of brain injury.
Lesions are possible, but again tend to give different symptoms - more like a stroke.
Structural abnormalities means that the brain has not developed properly, so smooth bits where there should be ridges etc.

Most frustrating would probably be if eveything looks normal - although nothing serious wrong with brain is always good!

OP posts:
simpson · 05/05/2009 17:50

JKS - pasta bakes sounds yum

M likes pasta too...well actually she likes everything

Told DH to put M to bed and then we mowed the lawn which woke her. When I went to check her there was no black out blind down and M wasn't in sleeping bag or anything...

Honestly men

So M is downstairs again thinking that she has just had a nap...God knows when she will be tired again!!

JustKeepSwimming · 05/05/2009 17:56

Simps - MEN! honestly sometimes! hope M doesn't stay up too late.

MM - why didn't i decide to become a brain surgeon??????!
so let's say tumours are v rare.
what about this TC thing i've read about (something like tuberculosis but different)?

and for a brain injury does there have to have been an 'incident'? eg a bang on the head, traumatic birth (would have shown up before now surely? not that he had one anyway, as he came out the sunroof, surely no head probs there?).
just worrying that we've brushed off a fall (not that there's been a major one) as nothing serious but actually it caused deep problems

must stop thinking....

simpson · 05/05/2009 19:34

Well both Dcs are fast asleep

Opening the wine now!!

Dh and my dad gone out to watch footie.

Am left alone with MIL so need a drink

Lilyloo · 05/05/2009 20:31

wow JKS thinkgs are moving really quickly which is good!! Can H not just be born with this ? I don't have any real experience but cannot imagine he has had a serious enough bump to the head that you haven't realised.
LOL at dh last night should imagine he will take a different approach next time!

Simps is M in bad again yet ? Yay at mil going and you having wine

MM glad you feeling a little better. N sounds like he is!! Is dh going to get it 'worse' or is he pretty good with illness ? (man flu and all that)

When is Lucky back ?

Yes how does M do it ? I didn't see her get in the chair but it has a little foot rest so i think she used that and the chair at the side of the table
But she got out right in front of us all. Stood up so the reins were nearly pilling her arms off then just wriggled until her arms came free Was like watching Derren Brown
Tried to take the 3 dc to the library today never again. M was a real pain. H and L were fine but i just ended up grabbing two books off the shelf in the end !
On a good note i lost 1.5lbs at Slimming world. Only two weeks on Fri until we go to France so will likely put it back on there with bread , pate, cheese and wine yuuum

simpson · 05/05/2009 21:01

Lilyloo - Lucky back on 8th i think...

LOL at M escape artist You must try and get pic to post of her in action

Madmouse - did you read that parenting magazine article on biting? Was it any good? M been biting J terribly the last few days...

madmouse · 05/05/2009 23:02

Hi all, had lovely evening gardening with church group doing up garden for new vicar coming for our smallest church. Ended up with close friend here talking about all the rotten stuff I'm dealing with at the moment, he's only just left and I am still feeling rather raw and emotional.Talking is good, but sometimes prefer to run away from it. Although he is an expert in making me laugh again before leaving!

JKS - don't worry about bumps on the head - that way lies madness, for you not H! -or about rare illnesses, there are too many of those. As I said with Nathan the injury was caused by blood clots and not directly as a result of the birth, in fact they reckon he had recovered from the incident by the time he was born. His apgars were 9, 10, 10! I understand where you are, but you are driving yourself round the bend. You simply do not have the information you need at the moment, all you know is that the electrical currents in H's head are not what they should be, nothing more.

You do realise I am saying do as I say not as I do, don't you.

Simps hope kiddos and you on the mend

sorry to the rest of you, love you lots but head a mess xx

morning

couldn't get to sleep last night, combo of my brain over-firing, gunky throat , what sounded like a howling gale outside and being on m own again for the first time in about a week.
then H wowke at 5 coughing
managed to leave him for half an hour as T seems to sleep through, coughing, spluttering, talking, H moving around. but as soon as i go in to take H out, he wakes up. and he doesn't have the luxury of a daytime nap to make it up.

sleep deprivation does not a happy toddler make....

or a happy mummy for that matter.

Madmouse - you are right of course, but too easy to try and think through every possible cause!
i don't know Lily if he could be born with something wrong and it not show until now.
Altough of course maybe it has been showing we just haven't seen it but it has caused his excessive sleepiness....
It is moving fast which is mostly good, though i still sometimes think omg, only the other day he was fine, like nursery, they still know nothing about it. (have to email today to book T on for tomorrow and let them know)
and loads of friends don't know yet (those who don't read FB regularly or i haven't emailed recently).
and telling people from the beginning is wearing

sorry, enough!

Lily - M is amazing! really should try and catch that on video!!!

Madmouse - a good bit of phsyical stuff like gardening cheered me up at the weekend, would love to do more but yuk weather now.

Simps - hope evening went off ok - no MIL buried under patio at least!

got loads happening today, and all i fancy is curling up in bed....
