I haven't been sick since around 10am and have slept on and off. Feel crap though...sore throat, head, back and my ears are very painful Sorry for moan I know I am feeling sorry for myself...it's been a hellish week

Quickie link from other thread - need to go as Calvin is being a complete whingy face nightmare today catch up later.xx

40,000 childminders have quit in the last year. This coincides with the introduction of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

EYFS has been introduced to streamline learning and development requirements in all Early Years settings. This means that childminders
are subject to the same paperwork, assessments and observations as nurseries and pre-schools. This is obviously too much to expect of
a single self-employed person.

Childminders' homes are not educational establishments, therefore there should be no need for the childminder to make assessments on
children's learning and development. Until a child attends school it should be their parents job to assess them.

The government's ten year childcare strategy has the slogan 'Choice for parents, the best start for children'. Within the framework of
EYFS, it states the need for consistency between early years settings. This defies such a slogan and actually removes parent
choice.

People tend to choose childminders rather than nurseries because they want a relaxed, informal enviroment for their children - the
requirements of this legislation directly opposes this.

Of course, childminders need regulations and assessments but this current system is really too much to expect of them. As long as a child is
safe and happy surely that is enough.
Many childminders are becoming frustrated becaused they cannot keep up with the paperwork and are leaving in their droves. The knock on
effect of this is that children are losing their beloved carers. They grow attached to their childminders and to have to change carer multiple
times is surely not an ideal situation.

Take 30 seconds out of your day to sign a petition to make childminders exempt from EYFS

leah b-day 2day...

sweetkitty · 27/07/2009 21:18

evening people

Had both Bethany and T at the HV today for jabs, oh I so love their questions, is she on full fat cows milk, me no she is still BF, cue strange looks, do you have safety gates? yes, how many teeth does she have or have you forgotten? then she got weighed and is 19lbs 4ozs which is a little cause for concern as she was born on the 75th centile and has dropped to the 25th, so I have to take her back in 4 months to be reweighed, even though I told them I would have expected her to catch down as I am 5ft3 and DP is 5ft8 so little, one of her sisters is on the 9th centile and one on the 25th, we don't make big babies, does she bear weight on her feet and are there any alcohol or drug concerns and that was it?!!! strange

Anyway both she and T are fine, T was a star and went first to show B how it was done and didn't cry and sang to B whilst she was upset.

I'm CD30 still no period but two negative tests now (even with 2 for £1 poundshop tests) my cycle has always been 27 days long so think my body is messed up, cold is going though so that's something. Still a bot sad and down about MIL.

Disney - hope it's not swine flu and you are feeling better soon, total bummer about your car too you would be better off with another one than pay all that

minipink - hope you are all feeling better too

pigley - loving all the birthday pics must get off bum and put ours up

love to everyone else too x

purplejennyrose · 27/07/2009 21:57

Oh loving your HV sk!

Don't do a table, I have no clue how much F weighs

Pigley - dd1 did that at about 16 months - I remember hearing a distant squeaking and then realising it was her - there were two legs and little feet waving out of the top of her toy basket and the [very light wicker] lid had closed on her!!

Disney -get well wishes - I keep wondering whether what I thought was a bad stamach bug that the girls had was actually swine flu - although we didn't get it - and also we sent stool samples in (nice!) and haven't heard a thing...Hope you feel on the mend soon.

JODIEwantsanewname · 27/07/2009 22:01

Happy Birthday Leah rumpel Have signed, and copied and pasted your post and sent it to all my friends

Disney Hope you feel better soon and it's not Swine flu [hugs]] (and about your car)

SK Your girls sound so cute!

My (well Sam's) Stats for the list (if someone is making one???)

18lbs 12ozs and 74cm tall.

He's such a little dot 9th centile for weight and 25th for height!! Like you SK, I'm 5ft3 and DH is 5ft9, so not rocket science to figure out we wre going to have small children!!!

He was also really grumpy yesterday and last night (another 2 hour trying to settle marathon, yawn) and has another 2 molars today thats 12 teeth now But no fangs, is this right????

pigleychez · 27/07/2009 22:10

Sk- Abigail has her Jabs too in the morning.. get this.. My appointment is 9.49am ! Very precise! As if they are ever on time anyway!
Loving the questions
Abigail is 19.5 and to has dropped centile lines. She was born on the 50th and has dropped. I was advised to give her a high calorie diet to "fatten her up". Personally I think shes absolutely fine and perfectly healthy.

Disney- Hope you are feeling better
Ive been feeling sick this evening

M2L- Happy Birthday Leah

Jodie- 12 teeth! we still dont have any!

This morning was rather busy with 5 of Abigails little friends over for a little party. The all played nicely together and we had an indoor picnic. More presents for Abigail!! think we need to move to a bigger house already!

Also had the plumbers turn up during the party this morning making it even busier. They came to find out where the leak we have is. Said that it may be under the house and that they may have to dig up the hallway floor. mmm.. I dont think so with a lounge full of toddlers!! Thankfully they found the leak is coming from the stop cock outside. The waterboard are fixing that within a week so that should be problem solved and no cost to us too

Found out today we should be getting our drive done next week too.. I do miss having a driveway- my parrell parking isnt great .

sweetkitty · 27/07/2009 22:14

Yes HV is a loon, if I was a first timer think I would have been more worried but given that DD3 wore a dress at 6 months that DD1 had on at her first birthday party I think she is doing just fine, the girl never stops moving and yelling, her latest thing is to hang off the kitchen baby gate crying for food especially if she sees you with some.

JODIEwantsanewname · 27/07/2009 22:41

SK Sam does that too, we have the biggest tantrums if someones eating and he's not!!!! I don't know where he puts it all, it's such a joy to cook for him as I don't have to worry about what he will/won't eat like I did /do with DS1!!

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 27/07/2009 22:45

Just searched for our last antenatal thread with all the birth announcements, how great it was reading them all, and how many of us don't post anymore but hey some of us still do adn thats great

Jodie - it's bananas she sees them in the fruit dish and shouts for them, I tell her she is not having more than one a day for the size of her she will be constipated, she can eat a banana in about a minute flat the minx

disneystar1 · 28/07/2009 09:03

happy birthday LEAH have a wonderful day sweetheart xxxx

Rumpel · 28/07/2009 12:19

Hi all,

busy busy here as per.

Can't remember who said what so....

RE NAPPY CHANGE - C hates it too and sometimes I have to pin huim down with my legs to change him or he's off and he too strong to fight with. DD was an angel and just lay there smiling so it a bit of a shock for me . He's is aright handful and his red haired temper is defo coming out now

DISNEY - hope you are on the mend
BEBE - likewise

M2L - Happy Birthday Leah! Don't beat yourself up I often feel like crap Mum now as I am shouty/irritable/short tempered Nobody is perfect though.

SK - timing is wrong for you at mo'. You need to feel happpier or those dratted hormones will kick in and make you feel worse so enjoy your hols and relax have some vino and chill.xx We are off to sunny Saltcoats this Fri for a wedding reception in Kilbirnie - Moorpark Hotel. Have looked out my gladrags but DH and I are a bit about it as we will see people whom we haven't seen since before we got married (1 of them his ex) and we have both changed so much what with his accident and my fleshy excesses due to DCs

Thanks for signing ladies - I will paste onto FB when I get a chance.

Put some new pics on Fb if you fancy a gander.

Must go as waiting for a researcher to come - researching contagious yawning with your baby.

No I don't paint as a hobby - I would love to take an arty course at sometime in the future though.

Am getting my hair done tomorrow and having a day to myself - so looking forward to it.

RE Swine flu - better to get it now rather than in the Winter - build up antibodies to it. Am sure we must have been exposed as are always at softplay, in shoppping centres etc and it is very prevelant up here.

Take care all.xxxxx

HEIGHT WEIGHT CHART FOR OUR LOVELY 1 YEAR OLD BUBBAS.

CALVIN 82CMS 26LBS

disneystar1 · 28/07/2009 12:22

26lb hes a big tall boy youve got there rumpel....[grin[

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 28/07/2009 15:07

Rumpel - glad to know I'm not the only one with a chubba-wubba. Mind you with me 5'9" and DH 6'5 he is never going to be small, we are hoping for a flanker/no 8 but think he will be a 2nd row.

sweetkitty - we have a banana freak here as well, which is actually really handy as it's a great on the go snack. 19lbs doesn't sound like anything to be worried about what an odd HV, could you just ignore going back?

pigley - another party! you must be a great organiser. I would love to meet some more mums (my NCT lot are great tho) to do stuff with during the day, there is a group of 3 women (who know each other) who do the same gym classes as me and hang around the leisure centre, we have got to the smiling hello at each other stage but no further. Will the drive cause much mess? Also I would ignore your HV I'm sure at this age they stop eating so much food and start being even MORE active so it's not inconcievable that Abigail will lose a little weight.

Jodie -12 teeth wow! sorry know nothing about molars as A only has 2 teeth still.

mama2leah - hope Leah had a nice birthday. How are you feeling?

Sending get well vibes to all the sick people!

A & I practice a form of extreme nappy changing here and I'm becoming a dab hand at changing his nappy when he is standing up. I am using MN to avoid revising so better go...

pigleychez · 28/07/2009 15:51

Rumpel- Enjoy the wedding reception... get all dressed up about prance about infront of DH ex
I will add Abigail to your list when I manage to get to keep still long enought to measure her height!

Libra- Dont worry! That definately it for parties now-Im pooped! Im not worried about Abigails weight at all. I think shes just perfect

Poor little Abigail is poorly today She was unsettled during the early hours, was moany and woudnt settle for a good 1.5 hours. Fine first thing then off to the dr for her injections. Screamed her head off as normal.
Had a sleep when she got in and woke after 30 mins crying. wouldnt go back off so came down and just sat on my lap. didnt want to play at all, just watch tv. Had another sleep for 30 mins woke up crying again, refused any lunch apart from a yoghurt then fell asleep on my lap again for an hour. She looks soo rough bless her!Shes been really teary,a complete lap baby all day and has a temp of 38.8 which has increased from earlier. Shes just gone down for another nap so if its still high ill fight to get some calpol down her. Hate to see her so sad and poorly.

Just spoke to a friend who came to the party and shes been sick all day and feels rough too.

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 28/07/2009 16:37

Pigley you know you can use calpol and nuerofen and I think neurofen is better for temperatures. Hope A feels better soon.

pigleychez · 28/07/2009 17:14

Libra- My problem is getting either down her in the first place! She hates anything shes not in control of It tried various syringes, spoons but she just hates it full stop!

Its such a fight to get her to take any and most if it either gets spat out or I wear it! Tried both but its the same with anything.

Teething gel is a big NoNo also.

Thankfully she has woken much happier in herself now, walking around and playing but still has a temp of 38.8. I did manage to get "some" calpol down her about an hour ago but it doesnt seem to be having much effect yet. Maybe ill try some Nurofen later if she'll let me

sweetkitty · 28/07/2009 18:19

Syringe and hold her head back, horrid I know but needs must remind yourself she is just screaming as she is angry not in pain. My three all love calpol and the odler two "invent" symptoms when they see the bottle.

bebejones · 28/07/2009 20:03

Evening all! Had an awful night here last night! DH and I had just gone to bed about 11pm & were about to ...P wakes up suddenly and screamed for 2 hours! It's like she has radar or something. No idea what was wrong, must have been a bad dream. She didn't have a temp, I did give her some teething gel (although I don't think I got much on her gums as she bit me really hard!), but in the end we had to leave her to scream. Everytime I calmed her down she screamed when I left the room. Very unlike her!

Pigley - sometimes if P is being a madam about the calpol/neurofen we pretend to have some first as she wants anything we have! Also found the neurofen & syringe much less messy with a baby who doesn't want to take her medicine!!

Rumpel - not getting P weighed til next week, just before her birthday, so will add to the list then! Am dead chuffed she actually wore a 9-12months T-shirt today that I bought 4months ago, is still quite big though and her 6-9months trousers are still constantly falling down!!

M2L - Happy Birthday Leah!

Jodie - from what I hear about teeth its very normal for fangs to come in after molars. P's appeared briefly but have gone away again, seems to be the pattern with her teeth!!

Have taken to singing to P to stop the nappy changing being a battle! Did try giving her something to hold but it useually ended up being thrust into the dirty nappy/bum area! Does anyone else LO insist on grabbing their 'bits' when you change them. P grabs at herself as soon as the nappy is off. Very odd, she isn't red or rashy but she does love touching herself!!!!

Had a lovely afternoon spent playing with P today. She loves playing with her ball and rolling it along to me. She's so cute if you ask her where the ball is she goes and finds it & brings it to you, like a little puppy!! She says 'Baa' for ball, and gets so excited when she sees it! Off to play with my new toy now, we ordered a new TV 8 weeks ago & it arrived this morning!!!!
