You will be waiting a long time if you expect it to be me!

OP posts:
ninja · 03/04/2009 19:44

won't be me either -

If you're waiting for the baby Ninja slept 12 hours announement you might be waiting a while too

ninja · 03/04/2009 19:44

Starlight did you ever do any baby swimming?

ninja · 03/04/2009 19:47

Got a baby sitter tonight for the first time in years (going out separately though!)

DD1 is very excited and will no doubt demand LOTS of stories.

ninja · 03/04/2009 19:48

Can you tell I'm waiting for my lift?

Plus I'm NOT wearing a feeding bra!

potxola · 03/04/2009 19:53

Mine is trying but no yet.
Starlight hi, do you know if it is safe for them to sleep on their front using a grobag?
Lorea is having problems sleeping, she wakes up when trying to turn on her front, because she can't do it with a grobag.

You are a great mum and I am convinced you will be fine. You know how much I think of you as a mum.
Hopefully I forgot to say, Lorea sleeps ok in her cot from 8 to 11,after that she wakes up evey 2-3 hrs. It could be her teeth o the fact that she wants to sleep in her front, but I am knackered. I just can bring myself to do the control crying for during the night yet (my ds would wake up)

potxola · 03/04/2009 21:59

Yes, it helps a lot. Thanks. I have sort of forgotten what I did with my ds, but he was stronger and bigger.
Are you feeling better now?

potxola · 03/04/2009 22:02

Oh.You probably have already gone to sleep.

Meglet · 03/04/2009 22:05

I'm here sometimes, but the bigger threads take ages to load on my crackberry. So I seem to end up on piddly little chat threads instead.

We don't have crawling, dd goes backwards when she's on the laminate floor and can spin on her tummy too. That makes her sound like a breakdancer .

I'm not sure about the bunny ears, they look terribly rude to me.

digitalgirl · 03/04/2009 22:59

potxola Alfredo sleeps on his front in his grobag. Has done since he was about 10 weeks. Baaaad mummy. But he has very strong neck and shoulder muscles.

He had a playdate at home today, they fought over the same toy. Alfredo won! Have raised a bully.

ninja · 03/04/2009 23:55

Yes Starlight all glammed up for a mum's night out so that I could ......... talk about weaning for hours

Another bonus of BLW - so I don't go to a paty and spend an hour talking about how I try to trick my 5 month old baby into opening their mouth so that I can prise some puree in that they then spit out!!

Had a good time though and might even be ready for a night out WITH DH. (Since he's been complaining about lack of action)

Debs75 · 04/04/2009 00:10

Been trying to get a babyhawk for the last couple of weeks and i keep missing out (too tight to get one brand new) on ebay.
Had a look at a wilkinet, those of you that have tried both how good are they.

On the poo front Robyn has burnt her bum. Everytime she poos she screams in pain and she has a huge sore patch.

Still not sleeping, she doesn't like being in her cot and can't leave her to cry as ds is usually awake and he gets really distressed when she cries.

Not crawling yet but when on tummy she pushes her bum in the air.

Ninja it's not just your dh who is complaining of no action. Have hardly been near dp in months. He is always sat on the computer.

Hopefully · 04/04/2009 07:34

Well, I spoke to DP about being stricter about night wakings, and he was a lot less interested than I expected! He basically said that he knows he wouldn't be able to just shush T at 3 in the morning if the crying persisted for more than a few minutes, so trying to do that would be a bit of a waste of time. We managed to compromise on refusing to feed him unless he's been at least 4 hours since last feed, and not jiggling the cot to rock him to sleep (as I think part of the problem is he needs rocking to fall asleep sometimes).
We've agreed to try that for 2 weeks, then if it's ok we'll think about extending the no feed gap to 5 hours, and so on.
I never realised DP was so pathetic about hearing T cry for more than 3 seconds!

Ninja I had to forcibly restrain my um from trying to distract T so she could shove another spoonful in. We usually spoon him something each meal, but we load the spoon and he grabs and takes it to his mouth. It felt awful watching my mum trying to stuff more in before he'd properly swallowed each mouthful, I got quite cross with her!

imoscarsmum · 04/04/2009 09:07

potxola C has slept on her tummy since about 12 weeks old, in her grobag. Twas the only thing that helped her colic. At >6months, i personally wouldn't worry at all.

Deb75 we have a wilkienet and find it very good. not very quick to get on and off (eg like a baby bjorn/'clip & fit' carrier) but very comfortable to wear.

hopefully my MIL doesn't really get BLW either, though she doesn't really interfere.
With C, we find that she has such a small appetite that unless we put a little on a spoon she doesn;t realise that grub's up! We do a mix of spooning stuff in (at breakfast and tea, never lunch - always finger food then and much easier if out and about, she just shares mine) and C doing it herself but always wait until C opens her mouth - never popping stuff in while she's not looking!! As time goes on, she's getting a bit better at eating herself (though baked potato has proved a challenge - she couldn;t get it and tried to suck it out of my hand, like feeding a baby bird!! )

C has now dropped to 3 feeds a day - know that if i was spoon feeding 3 times a day, she'd drop to only 2, so BLW means she keeps her milk up, which i want atm.

ninja we've only been weaning a few weeks and when m mum friends in rl see her blw, they are amazed as they're still on purees (some at 8 months!!). I try not to feel too proud........

imoscarsmum · 04/04/2009 09:09

"C has now dropped to 3 feeds a day - know that if i was spoon feeding 3 times a day, she'd drop to only 2, so BLW means she keeps her milk up, which i want atm."
That's dropped to 3 milk feeds.

imoscarsmum · 04/04/2009 09:12

Ooh - meant to boast say that we had fish pie last night for tea and C took a whole prawn in her mouth and though it took a while, she mashed it up in her mouth and swallowed!!

digitalgirl · 04/04/2009 09:26

hopefully you sounded so exhausted the other day...how about your DP does the entire night shift and just brings T to you for one feed (then takes him back to resettle) and gives him a bottle for the other? At least you'll get a rest, and maybe your DP will realise how knackering it is for you and be more inclined to tackle the wakings with you. But I think extending gaps between feeds is a good start - especially if T is taking in more food during the day.

ninja it's hearing mums talk about tricking their babies into opening their mouths by alternating savoury spoons with sweet spoons that makes me laugh. i've tried similar BLW style and sometimes A just goes for savoury and sometimes just for sweet. Yesterday he had half a pot of strawberry yoghurt for dinner...after refusing tortelloni (I can't believe he hates pasta - we eat it three times a week!) and sweet potato wedges which he had previously scoffed on at lunchtime (which is probably why he couldn't face anymore).

We have firmly established 'The Best of John Barry' as part of A's morning nap routine. Currently mornings go like this:
A wakes up
DH changes him and brings him to me for a feed
We play in bed for a bit
A and DH go downstairs and play for a bit then have breakfast
I join them and have breakfast while A plays and DH mops up BLW mess
A gets tired and starts looking at the stereo
I put John Barry CD on, skip to number 2 'Midnight Cowboy' and by track 4 A is looking ready for bed
We go upstairs I draw his blind, put A in cot and he has a massive wriggle then falls asleep without a wimper (very big improvement in our household).

Now if only I could get him to fall asleep for other naps without crying my days would be soooo much easier.

Right, am going to attempt a bath. DH is working today, so will have to jump out as soon as A wakes from nap.

Meglet · 04/04/2009 09:34

imoscarsmum I'm impressed with C eating the prawn.

DD is rolling around on the floor bashing DS's blocks over at the moment , DS is suprisingly tolerant of it.

I'm going to go all stepford wife soon and get my annabel karmel books out and cook a load of meals up for the dc's and stick them in the freezer. I used to do them for ds all the time but haven't had time lately. I reckon a cottage pie, fish pie and a pasta bake will keep them going for a while. It will make life easier once I've got a stash of them ready to go.

We're supposed to be off to the garden centre in a bit, but the weather looks very gloomy, I thought the sun was meant to be out.

potxola · 04/04/2009 10:29

DigitalgirlImoscarsmum thanks for the information. I am going to try the on her tummy solution. Last night was the same, waking up every 2 hrs.
I am also impressed by the pram eater.
Lorea has pieces of toast with butter to chew and clementines (she loves them) It is funny, because my ds, 4yrs old, is starting to eat fruit now because her baby sister tries them and likes them.
My mum thinks I am crazy because I feed them the same food which involves cooking with garlic, cumin, Spanish hot paprika. Lorea loves it and it saves me the trouble I had with her brother about eating different food.

re Slings my eternal subject. If any of you is interested in the Napsack baby carrier.(£66.00) I have just put mine on ebay. It is reversible, black on both sides and I only used it for 2 hrs on a toddler group . I prefer my colourful wraps, so I am selling it.

Going to the coast today. IT IS A GORGEOUS DAY HERE IN DeVON.
