Welcome ladies

Well, there's no crawling going on in our house, but there's defo some separation anxiety bawling going on .... tears, screaming, the works - oh joy!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No, it's the weaning! Does anyone else find they have absolutely no time for anything inbetween milk and solid feeds.

I have been phoning childminders this morning. apart from the 8,000 voicemails I've left, I've basically achieved nothing - all the ones I spoke to couldn't take on an under 1 at the moment. I might see if there are any websites advertising nanny shares or anything like that.

digitalgirl · 24/04/2009 11:59

I went to the GPs yesterday - he's going to test me for anaemia (sp?) and various other things that could have been causing the dizziness. WRT my bottom ishoos he's sending me to see a surgeon that is how bad it is now and I've been putting off going to the doc's about it since my 6 week check-up.

But in other news I have some freelance work starting next week . Am waiting to find out if I need to go in for a meeting, but I have a script to write and a shoot to direct so I'm very happy!!! (and can ignore that rejection letter I received about my last two job applications)
It's about 10-15 days work over a 8 week period, so not particularly intense but thinking I should now start weaning A off daytime feeds. Am very about that.

Hopefully · 24/04/2009 12:29

DG how exciting about work! Do you have a nearby mum/MIL who will look after A while you work?
Hope you get the bottom ishoos sorted soon and you're not suffering too much. mine was bloody awful (hugely uncomfortable, repeated visits to GP), and then randomly just got better without me really doing anything, so there is hope!

Ooh, a childminder just phoned me back. Going to see her on Monday morning.

Been so so busy lately, had no time to read or post. Glad to hear Leeds meet went well - DP and I off to Oulton Hall hotel on Sunday (with C of course) as DP off next week and we're having a posh night away! Have booked a babysitter via hotel - can you believe £18 p/hr 'they are in full uniform madam'!! But their website does seem v good and it's just while DP and I have dinner.

Had a mad week as out tonight with my friends from antenatal group - first time we've met without the babies! So I got hair done yesterday morning while MIL looked after C. I was worried as C is having severe separation anxiety atm, plus is teething and by the time I had to go, she hadn't managed breakfast, so had to give MIL rushed instructions. Well, i returned to shrieking baby - in a good way. She was doing her 'I am so excited I have to shriek and shriek in joy' thing, which she never does for anyone but DP and me. So v pleased.

C is not interested in crawling or rolling at all and I am making most of it, as friend has 6m old and she cannot turn her back for one minute. C can sit up unaided for ages though - I can go and make cuppa/go to loo etc (well, as long as she lets me without wailing for mama). A good tip, just in case she falls, is to sit her on the floor with a v-shaped pillow around her. She sits unaided but if she does topple back, the pillow catches her. I think she's gonna be a walker before crawling as she tries to stand when I sit her astride by leg on the floor. Apparently DP never crawled either.

DG your work sounds v glam and 'moving wallpaper' ish. Hope it goes well.

Well, better go and put potato wedges on for tea tonight. Hopefully you are so right about weaning being so so time consuming - there are days when I don't have time to fart hehehe

Pacita · 24/04/2009 16:19

Hopefully I was having that very same conversation with a friend just yesterday. We all thought we had got the crack of it, feeding boobies to our 5 month old babies.... and then bang! Steam veg, patiently watch a chomping, spitting baby clear the mess, do a milk feed, take for walk, cook some more and the whole thing starts again...

When do you girls give solids adn when milk feeds? I MUST MUST MUST start cutting down on milk feeds, but I don't know where to start! It's hard because I'm only giving D veg, fruit and cereal at the mo. No animal protein, no lactic products...

DG, way to go! What are you directing? It sounds that a non-intensive schedule is exactly what you need, no? A nice job to easy yourself back into working life?

London meet ladies... What's up? Any takers on Thursday the 7th, or maybe the week after?

notcitrus · 24/04/2009 19:12

pacita i can't do the 7th but any other day that week. or the week after but there's the croydon meet on the 13th...

look at the puree lovers thread; i've been asking about timings there.

debi you're right, dd was 8mo when I got pg with ds - I think starlight's gap is about the same too. Ds isn't 7 months til Sunday, so I'm telling myself he's still only 6mo! I am starting to think I might be ready for no 3 sooner than I first thought though...I might break my new year's resolution of not getting pg this year!!
ninja I get at all the babies who can roll, so that's funny you feel that way about my ds sitting!
I'm still struggling not to compare ds to babies here, and to dd at the same age.

Ds has cut back his food lots in the last week (eating less than half what he was) but then waking hungry overnight after 2 months of sleeping through. Its very weird. He's screaming hungry overnight, so of course I feed him, but he used to take on so much in the day. I'm wondering if he needs more carbohydrates?

Dh took the day off today as he'd been away all of last weekend, so I went and had a sneaky starbucks all on my own and the spoiled the sense of relaxation by going to Asda!

digitalgirl · 24/04/2009 19:59

Ah. So the job's not been signed off yet, will find out Monday. But if it goes ahead, it's a commercial for a kid's product (my speciality).

pacita I tend to give A his milkfeeds when he wakes up from his naps. Then about an hour later give him a solid feed. He's been on about two naps a day for the past few days, so his milkfeeds are down to 4 (including bedtime). Am having to seriously think about cutting out these two daytime feeds now abd replacing them with a cup of formula. Think I'll wait till Monday before deciding when to do it. Will continue as normal for the weekend.

leonie oh dear, thought I had it bad! My sympathies to you too!

hopefully yes, my mum and DH will be covering childcare the days that I'm working. Bit tricky at the start of a project because there can be impromptu meetings, but there's a production schedule so I should be able to plan childcare with them well in advance. DH owns his own business so can be flexible. Lola loves her grandson, so will book days off for him!

starlight thanks for all your support that you've been giving us all these months! You've been an inspiration and a massive source of confidence - I hope we can be the same to you!!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 24/04/2009 21:26

hi everyone! hope you're all well... I think I've missed about 20 pages, so apologies for my "non-personal" post! been very busy - with DP's redundant and at home doing diy I seem to have even less time - then went back home for Easter, and back to busy life...

anyway, everyone back home couldn't believe how well DD eats/chews without teeth, and so impressed by her appetite, she's a real dustbin, will eat anything (and as a good italian just loves pasta and pizza )! she's finally learnt to roll, though more interested in walking (my poor back!) and she's such a happy baby, always smiling!

off to try and catch up a bit...

Jenbot · 24/04/2009 21:50

Lovely to meet you Ninja and Carriebo

I think 7th May is OK for me for N London Pacita.

Been so busy this week Up North, visiting and being visited, and today I nosed around the house my sister might be buying on her 2nd viewing. Sister is talking to me again now (she never stops!!) so I can't concentrate, will come back later!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 24/04/2009 22:53

ok, I've read the last pages... so before I forget:

DG no teeth here yet, so can't tell you about the teething necklace. I put it on her just in case, but actually the other day I forgot and she was having a very dribbly whingeing time and she stopped after about 1/2 hour I put it on her... could be coincidence though...

re work I'm going back on 1 sept... just got the letter

hopefully tried to resume marital activities (with all the pf exercising I don't "feel" the prolapse anymore so I felt a bit more confident, though still not "sexual", though finally can get into most pre-pg clothes), but as s.one else mentioned, might be stitched up a bit too tightly (had same problem after DS, it started getting better as I fell pg with DD, so def the more you do it, the easier, so have to persevere too ), and also been having those bottom probs too , they keep on coming and going...

NLondon meetup - when? La Porchetta make the best, most authentic pizza in London IME, though haven't been there for years!

Croydon meetup - when/where?

lollipop - friend used to be obsessed with milestones and how good/clever her PFB was, so put me off comparing, I know they are both doing fine, DD did mustered eating very quickly, but only now rolling

oh, sorry to hear about the xs, meglet and splish...

think I've covered everything...

Hopefully · 25/04/2009 11:04

2 nights ago: 3 feeds, 3 resettlings.
last night: 1 feed at 6am after going to bed at 8pm, 1 resettling at 3am.
Go figure.

notcitrus · 25/04/2009 11:31

hopefully - babies are worse than shares: past performance is no predictor at all of future performance!

Last 2 days A has insisted on getting up to play 2 hours early and then napping when he used to get up. This may help him nap in the arfternoon but I don't wanna get up early!
Although I suppose when I go back to work I'll have to. Bah.

The lovely manager at A's nursery is about to go on maternity leave. The other staff seem OK but not quite as reassuringly in control of everything. Still they only need to look after 3 kids each so I'm sure A will be fine even if the paperwork does have loads of spelling mistakes [worried pfb moment...]

Debs75 · 25/04/2009 17:09

Is anyone else's lo struggling to sleep during the day due to the heat?
Robyn has not had a nap since weds and that was swim induced!
If i feed her she drops off on my breast but will wake up if i move her. she was going off in her pram after a walk, she cried for a few minutes but then would sleep but not at all this week. If she naps at all it is aroubd tea-time when she is exhausted.
I don't want to have to feed her to sleep for daytime naps as well as at night.

becaroo · 25/04/2009 19:52

Toby is cutting his upper front 2 teeth so not much in the way of naps here either Its driving me mad...all I can do is either;a) hold him whilst he has a nap or b) push him round in the pram...neither of which is ideal.

My days seem to consist of giving him milk feeds, solids feeds, changing his bum and trying to get his to have a nap....in between looking after ds1 too. Am a bit fed up.

It seems Toby is like his big bro...ie. thinks sleep is for the weak!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 25/04/2009 21:24

DD's never been big on daytime naps, and they're even worse now, not helped by the horrible cold she has atm though...

how many milk feeds are your LOs having? DD has bf first thing in the morning, afternoon after nap and bedtime, but the afternoon one seems to be quicker/less every day.

Ponymum · 25/04/2009 21:36

We had the most amazingly successful meal tonight! I made salmon and broccoli fishcakes. DD grabbed them and simply wolfed them down! I am going to cook lots more stuff this way now.

So sorry for those with bottom problems.

Annoyed I couldn't make the Leeds meet up, carriebo, ninja, and jenbot. Sounds like you had a good time. Wish I could have met the other babies. Oh, and mums too!

digigirl your work sounds very glam!

DD is having erratic and terrible nights, if that's any comfort to everyone else who is suffering. I haven't posted for ages - pressures of returning to work, blah, blah. I hope you don't mind me saying that catching up and reading what all the other LOs are doing is comforting given the craziness that is the Ponyfamily house atm. I suppose I was naive to think that things got progressively better as your LO gets older. It's not actually like that after all, is it?

Ponymum · 25/04/2009 23:21

I hope it doesn't sound like I was boasting about the success of the fishcakes. It's just that I was so amazed at what happened given that otherwise I seem to be completely crap at getting DD to eat food.

ponymum great article! I was gripped from start to finish.

Am of those whose babies with teeth. DS seems to be gnawing away on anything he can stratch his gums on. But nada.

It's a beautiful day. Hoping to sort the garden out a little bit so it's not a complete death trap for DS.

digitalgirl · 26/04/2009 10:22

Whose babies have teeth.

Hopefully · 26/04/2009 10:40

T still has no teeth. I am also envious of toothy babies!

T sleeps pretty well in the day - he has 3 naps, all of at least 45 mins, the lunchtime one is sometimes up to 2 hours. However, his nighttime sleeps is bloody horrendous - he was up 7 times last night, 3 of which were for feeds. And he only went down at 9 and got up at 6:30... I've tried being a bit meaner about the daytime naps, but he just disintegrates into hysterics as soon as he gets tired . It's basically a lose lose situation!

becaroo · 26/04/2009 11:21

I am completely in awe of those of you who are still feeding (a lot!) at night You are amazing!! Toby hasnt had any night feeds since 9 weeks - not that I have benefitted as he has either been ill or teething since then so nights are disturbed here too , albeit I am not feeding so dh can take him!!

My ds1 was a TERRIBLE sleeper and I really sympathise with those of you whose babies are up 6-8 times per night - I remember it well

Took toby to be weighed on firday and he is 22lbs 12oz at 30 weeks!!! [shock} My ds1 was that exact weight at 12 months!!!!! No wonder my back is killing me!!

Have a great remainder of your weekend x
