Well, there's no crawling going on in our house, but there's defo some separation anxiety bawling going on .... tears, screaming, the works - oh joy!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
digitalgirl · 21/04/2009 22:29

pacita I think they've restructured me out of the company, but because of the commute I can't be bothered to make a fuss about it.

Thursday 7th of May is good for me.
Starlight - If FP isn't good coz of escalators (although from what I remember there's a short flight of stairs, no escalators) what stations are good for you?

Pacita · 21/04/2009 22:52

"restructured you out of the company"???? I can't fucking believe it. I hear so many stories of women losing out professionally because the dare have children. It makes my blood boil. Brrrrr.

Debs75 · 21/04/2009 23:06

Woohoo dd1 and ds back at school so after a 7:15 start (god i'm tired) me and dp, still got no job, and Robyn had the house to ourselves.
Blitzed the kitchen doing bedrooms tomorrow then probably sleep on Thursday.

Had to go and get dp a new phone as ds had decided it needed a bath. That makes about 5 mobiles he has broken. Was a nice excuse to get away from the cleaning and goet out in the sunshine. I tried my new wilkinet and it was really comfy and Robyn fell asleep. I wish i had bought one when she was a newborn.

Leeds meetup, really sorry but can't make it this time, maybe another time

lollipopmother · 21/04/2009 23:12

Starlight and Hopefully - Thanks for your replies to my BFing woes, it was much appreciated. Still no progress, nipples in agony but that is a whole other topic so hopefully someone will answer it in the bfing section.

I've been lurking a bit but I find it really hard not to compare her with the other babies and I get a bit worried/upset when I see that other babies are further along, so I haven't been on for a while. I think that she's progressing fine and am really happy with her, no worries at all but then I see on here that babies are walking/eating full meals/sleeping through etc etc and I just get that she isn't there yet.

As for working - I am not going back to work just yet, maternity pay runs out next month uhg. I am planning to become a childminder.

Imoscarsmum - going back on 15 July, full-time.
Lollyheart- started a new job on tues 14th april, p/t
Plusonemore- return to work September, 3 days a week. DS1&2 in nursery
Hopefully - theoretically going back part time in September, hoping to find an alternative. DS at childminder.
ILTMIMI - SAHM
Starlight - SAHM (unless anyone can find me affordable childcare for 2 preschoolers)
DebitheScot- probably going back 1st week in June (haven't actually told boss that yet), 3 days a week till summer then 2 from Sept. Ds1&2 at childminder.
Becaroo - SAHM - at least til ds2 is older or I get back to studying!
Ponymum - back at work f/t pending redundancy, then panic
Kagey - return to work approx 14th July, part time (3 days a week if boss agrees). DD at Nursery.
NotCitrus - return 3 days early August, pfb in nursery 2 days, with MrNC on his day off. Have nursery arranged but their spaces for Aug and my start date and what project I'll get to do are still up in the air.
Pacita - going back, gradually over the next month. Will start from home, end up doing 3 days a week. (this is the plan)
Digitalgirl - hoping to start freelancing before the end of May, but currently searching for a part-time job - 3 days a week.
CarrieBo - SAHM
Sunshinemummy - was due back f-t on 2nd March but got made redundant. F-t in new role since 23rd March
Debs75 - SAHM until Robyn at school then msy try and get something in a school. Or babysitting dd1's dc. lol.
Ninja - back 3 days on 17th June (my birthday ) but doing some odd days here and there. DD at Childminders across the road
Lollipopmother - SAHM until I become a registered childminder.

Sunshinemummy · 22/04/2009 09:54

lollipopmother that's totally natural. I'm the same with DD and she's my second so I know how different they can be. Am worrying that she's not crawling, pulling herself up, feeding herself or writing novels yet!

Hopefully · 22/04/2009 12:08

Lollipop we've sussed the eating full meals thing, but standing up (or even sitting for more than 2 minutes without keeling over) and sleeping for any length of time still definitely aren't happening yet!

T has been in a bit of a grump today. Wonder if it's finally some teeth coming. I'm beginning to feel a little silly with my gummy baby while all the other babies are getting gnashers!

Pacita · 22/04/2009 12:32

Lolli and Hopefully, Diego does not crawl, and only rolls if gravity forces him to (much to his annoyance). He has no teeth to speak of, and his claim to fame is that he responds to his name. At the moment he is good with some finger foods, but he is mostly spoon fed, as I need to watch what he eats because of his eczema. I refuse to get worked up about developmental stuff, though. I was, but he is going through such an adorable phase that I think I'll try and just enjoy the moment... I figure that he is just a lazy baby, not into crawling, rolling and generally moving around.

DebiTheScot · 22/04/2009 13:29

make the most of them not moving. It won't be long before you cant just plonk them down somewhere while you go to the loo/make the tea/put the washing on etc etc.

They grow up so fast so we shouldn't wish them onto the next stage (I am as guilty of that as the rest of us though).

ds2 has been grumpy all day. Probably because of being awake screaming for an hour at 1am. Don't know what was wrong but holding him or feeding him didn't help. Can only assume its teeth. He has got 1 peeping through and it does look quite sore.

lollipopmother · 22/04/2009 14:56

Thanks for your understanding ladies, I love this thread really, I shalll get back into it!

I have found BLW to be a real hoot, I love it! DP and I get such a kick out of watching (well peeping every now and again as she won't eat if we stare at her!) her eating, especially Sunday Roast as this is our proper 'family' day. Last week we were talking away and ignoring DD so as not to give her stage fright and I looked round to find she had stuffed a stick of sweet potato, a parsnip AND an asparagus into her mouth all at once and the ends of a all three were hanging out, it was pure genius!

I've noticed that she has really picked up on the eating this past week. She stopped solids altogether for a couple of weeks when she was ill, I don't know whether she's making more of an effort in eating properly now as she has less milk to rely on, or whether it's just that she's a couple of weeks older. Either way, I'm going to have to start checking labls etc now as it seems that food is being swallowed in bigger quantities.

We still have no teeth but I can see big bumps all around her bottom gums so they are there waiting for the big reveal!

Sunshinemummy · 22/04/2009 15:27

DD loves her food and can't get enough of it - I think that's why she doesn't like BLW (which we did successfully with her older brother, now 3) as she can't feed herself fast enough to satisfy her appetite. Am determined to keep trying it though as DS really thrived on it.

She's fantastic at sitting up though - never wobbles over. Nursery keep going on at mne about how strong she is.

Lolli good to see you back. I know how you feel with 'milestones' I think Robyn will never get the hang of sitting up for longer then 2 mins whereas a little guy at swimming is standing!
They all do things at their own rate and they don't give a hoot what the baby down the road is doing.

Starlight The form filling will end oneday. Make a copy of everything as these things tend to get lost or refused.
The guilt and frustration however, it is hard teaching them skills but with the small agwe gap you have you will find that he may copy off baby starlight. You will find a way to get him to understand things, sometimes it is your tone of voice that helps, and the way you say things. I'm sure you have looked on the NAS website but you could also try portage and look for an autism support group in your area as it will be invaluable.

We had our last waterbabies swim today. I wasb't looking forward to it as we have had a lot of crying in the last few lessons. Well I think someone has swapped my child, she loved it and went under 3 times with only a little winge.
They did an underwater swim where we went under so we could see them swim. Easier said then done for me as I hate going under but I gave it a go. You get goggles and she told us to breathe out so that you sink and can stay under longer. I got ready but as soon as I got under the water panic mode set in and I tried so hard not to shut my eyes that I did 2 huge breathes and swallowed loads of water. I only just managed to catch her as she floated to the surface and had to take a rest whilst coughing up loads of water. Not very dignified but she looked so good floating through the pool.

notcitrus · 22/04/2009 18:28

hello all - survived family trip to the in-laws. I thought the 3-hour drive would be a mare and the time there relaxing, but it was the other way round. the babies slept most of the journey, but once there it was constant effort looking after them as the ILs are just too elderly now. MIL can't reach to the floor at all or walk without two sticks, and was having difficulty just holding a baby. FIL is mobile but not very fast and kept wandering off. Given the two large dogs, who luckily are now also pretty elderly so don't jump up like they used to as they're untrained and very friendly, it was constant babycare and A woke up lots (but at least slept again after quick feeds).

Still good though, had long walk in the forest, and have fab photos of babies using dogs as climbing frames...
MIL did give A a quarter of a pork pie when I wasn't looking. Somehow he got the whole thing in his mouth and he got a bit stressed!

A has never tried to stand + can't crawl. And I swear his sleeping is worse now he's eating 2 solid meals, not better. But he's a mainly content baby - SIL2's baby sleeps through the night consistently in a perfect GF-approved way, but yowls his head off loads in the day. I think I prefer my one...

CarrieBo · 22/04/2009 20:39

Evening all! Had a lovely time with jenbot and ninja at starbucks in leeds today! What lovely babies you guys have
I thought ds was sitting up today, but then he did a big topple onto his face. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow!
We had the most extraordinary poo incident. Ds pood, I flushed it away and came back to discover he'd pood on the clean nappy. I flushed it away and came back to discover he'd pood on his vest. I got him all cleaned up, went downstairs (where I had not one but two guests ) and he pood again - full on red faced effort. What was most extraordinary (apart from the sheer volume)was the consistency - first was hard, second was solid but soft - a 'proper' poo, third was a big mr whippy and the fourth was runny like korma sauce. Eeeeeew!
Sorry, tmi, but it was quite an incredible display and I knew I could share it with you ladies!

ninja · 22/04/2009 22:11

It really was lovely to meet Carrie and Jenbot.

Carrie I was so impressed with how good your DD1 was, she was so patient and I thought that DS looked as if he was sitting really well - I was secretly . That's quite an impressive poo saga I have to say.

Jenbot - Clara (or was at Carla ) was lovely and so good natured. Thanks for organising the meet.

Can you bleive there was not a cry or complain from the babies.

Having said that M doesn't eat much - she managed to polish off loads of big bits of macaroni cheese and shouted at and chomped a huge bit of broccoli - can't wait to see tomorrow's nappies

I managed to get lost on the way home, I spent 45 mins going round in a circle and had to get my neighbour to collect dd1 (her boy's in the same class)

On 'what the babies are doing'. M can sit for a bit if she has a toy in front, but not long. Tbh, she just wants to stand and bounce on knees! She can roll both ways, but usually just shouts when she ends up on her front. She's not as active as DD1 but is chattier. DD1 was quite an early walker (10.5 months) but tbh by 18 months/2 years you can't notice the difference. They all get there in their own time

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/04/2009 08:48

Yikes, ds can now roll both ways and is using his new skill to travel around the floor. I better start paying more attention to what is laying around the house

Star don't leave any room for the guilt - you have done what you thought best at all times, and managed to be in tune with your baby. I'd say that's great going. I hope the form filling is not too soul destroying xxxx

Sounds like you guys had fun at your meet up! The pressure is on to get the NL one sorted. 7th of May, ladies?

I don't understand why, but Diego wakes up at 1:30, then 2:30, then 4:30. I then feed him. Then he wakes up at 6. His dad tells him to sleep a bit more. He's up by 7. He is obviously not hungry, and other nights he stays asleep till round about 4-5. Why oh why does he wake up? Teething? constipation? Hot in his grobag? I know I sound like a whinging old cow, but oh how do I dream of a full night's sleep... If there is one single thing that puts me off being broody already is the lack of sleep. Maybe I'm just lazy.

Diego puts away stewed fruit and toast for breakfast. Different kinds of veggie puree for lunch and cereal for dinner. He is also keen on finger foods, but I'm not always organised enough to have suitable things he can chomp on...

becaroo · 23/04/2009 12:47

Hello all

Re: what babies are doing...I have got 2 and my experiences are sooo different this time round (of course ds2 is healthy and a good weight which helps).

lolli I can really sympathise...I felt that way with ds1 alot....he just wasnt interested in doing what he "should" have been doing IYKWIM? I learnt that he would do it when he was good and ready and not before - which still holds true now he is nearly 6!!!

I was thinking to myself the other day..."you've done this before, you really should be better at it!!!" Am a bit non plussed with ds2's eating at the mo....he is fine, having 5 7oz ff per day and porridge x 1 & veg puree x 2 and the odd bit of finger food i.e. garlic bread, naan bread etc but doesnt seem to be dropping ff or eating more.....I am totally fine with him having 5 ff per day as its far more calorific than puree, but I seem to remember that ds1 had less and less milk as his solids increased....I am sure he was only on 3/4 ff per day at this age (30 weeks today!!!) Will get him weighed tomorrow and see what his weight is doing. ds2 is far fussier than ds1 was....ds1 ate everything I made him but ds2 WILL NOT eat pureed fruit, fromage frais/yoghurt or weetabix

Toby can now sit up well, although he does topple eventually,he can move around the floor with a technique of rolling over, twisting himself round and squirming and he can stand on my lap with his arms braced against me without me holding onto him!!!! He gets his legs up under his bum, but hasnt got the coordination to prop himself up on his arms at the same time, so crawling is still a while off I think.

Can you believe our babies are 7/8 months old!!!!!

Hopefully · 23/04/2009 13:54

Was someone asking about salt free cheese? Man in Waitrose told me that their cheese has no added salt (hope he was telling the truth, as T loves it).

I have just chucked most of the contents of my wardrobe into charity shop bags. I have decided to stop looking like I gave birth a week ago and try to regain some sense of style. I'm still 12lbs above my pre-preg weight, but I'm 16lbs lighter than I was 6 weeks after giving birth, so not doing too shamefully.

T actually fed 3 times last night instead of his usual 2, which was annoying. His sleep is getting worse again, after a couple of weeks of gradual improvement. TBH I don't even feel tired any more, I'm actually getting at least one 4 hour chunk, and a few smaller chunks, and I seem to be coping fine on that. Maybe I should crack on and have another while I'm used to the sleep deprivation

Sunshinemummy · 23/04/2009 13:58

Effy was starving last night too - I think she's having a growth spurt.

DebiTheScot · 23/04/2009 14:47

pacita I'm with you on the dreaming of whole night's sleep (as are a lot of us I suspect). I reckon the last full nights sleep I had was in about July last year. Thats nearly a year ago.

becarro I thought ds2 was very unfussy but the last couple of weeks he's started refusing to eat quite a few things. Most fruit (except Melon), cucumber, cheese. The fruit and cucumber refusal is annoying as he doesn't really drink very much and hardly ever pees so I'm constantly wondering if he's dehydrated (his poos are soft and he's mostly happy so I'm guessing he's ok).

He hasn't been happy today though, grumped all morning. Then I noticed after lunch that he had cut a tooth, he only had 1 before lunch and now he has 2! No wonder he was grumpy.

DebiTheScot · 23/04/2009 15:25

the other thing I was thinking about today is that if one of us was to get pregnant now there would be a 16 month gap between children and that's not an unusual age gap (Carriebo your gap must be not much more than that isn't it?) so I reckon one of us is either already pregnant or will be very soon.
(it certainly won't be me by the way)

Debs75 · 23/04/2009 17:35

NO NO NO NO debi that is not funny!!!!!!!!

Definitely not me either, did a test last week and negative
