ponymum - is the article online? You didn't remind us! Or did I miss the reminder

M has teeth. Two at the bottom and he's great at scraping food against them.

Leonie. I wouldn't expect my lo to put on weight if the same happened here.

great article ponymum

Leonie - dd1 and 2 very different weights at this age, despite both bf, both similarly active (or actually non active!) so sure it's quite normal. your dd2 is obviously making great progress

lollipopmother · 26/04/2009 17:05

Still no teeth here but very happy with that atm as we've been having bf issues and she chomps down quite hard enough without them!

Sunflower - I have always been really happy with how DD is progressing, I don't think she's been particularly slow at anything, it's just a friend of mine that really gets my back up on a regular basis. Her DC is a month younger and I constantly get texts saying things like 'well that's DC crawling then!' but then she explains that the legs shuffle like a crawl but arms don't support any weight instead they're bent like an army slither. Well i'm sorry but that's not a bloody crawl is it, so why feel the need to suggest it is just to try and get one up on my DD? P*sses me right off, it's just competitive parenting and I don't agree with it at all. AND BREATHE!

I realise that this thread isn't like that though, this is the right place to be sharing milestones as it's like all our babies have grown up together!

HOLY CRAP ponymum Great article [smile} Is writing your profession?

ninja · 26/04/2009 18:49

Hopefully I'm there with you - M up every hour atm and today I'm just KNACKERED. Doesn't help that Dh out last night so I've had 'em both all day, plus he woke me up for an hour when he got in

Next time ponymum, Carriebo told us all about you

CarrieBo · 26/04/2009 20:05

I only said nice things ponymum! Off to read your article once I've posted here.

sunflower (I think it was you anyway, its on the previous page) my ds has the same 3 milk feeds as yours. We've moved his bottle to the afternoon feed so I'm bf morning and night (and wearing 'real' bras in the day, its a revelation!) but he's only taking 2-3oz in the afternoon. There's lots of milk in cooking and on his porridge so I'm not too worried. That feed was the hardest for dd to drop - she was desperate for 8oz milk as soon as she woke up from her long sleep, I eventually got her to drop it at about 13 months old, but there were tears! Then we discovered mr tumble but methinks we won't have the same problem with ds. He's mad for his milk first thing though, which she never was.

Now then, location for Croydon meetup on 13th May. My mum suggested the soft play on the Purley Way (see here) but its enormous and v.pricey so not worth it unless lots of people are bringing toddlers. My toddler would be happy with a jigsaw and a bit of cake in starbucks, but it would limit our meet to about an hour which seems a shame for those travelling some distance. What if we met for lunch - how would people feel about that, and where would we meet? Or is there somewhere that's a little cheaper as a soft-play option (maybe AIBU but that kidspace one is double what I'd pay in York!). Or what about a picnic somewhere - but where? Its years since I've lived down there so don't know what's hot and what's not for kids in the area.

AF came back yesterday

CarrieBo · 26/04/2009 20:12

Perhaps we should meet at the [http://www.childrensleisure.co.uk/wacky-warehouse-croydon-i423.html wacky warehouse]] on the Purley Way in croydon instead? I've just got the idea from another mumsnet thread. As far as I can see its a pub with a bit of soft play, so we can have lunch and it sounds smaller and cheaper. Unless you don't want to buy lunch of course...we could meet for morning coffee and those that want to stay for lunch? Ooooh the options!

CarrieBo · 26/04/2009 20:54

Sorry...
try here

ninja · 26/04/2009 21:14

Sorry Carriebo I was only teasing

The article was great Ponymum. I've done a couple of parachute jumps (Static line) and that was scary enough.

I had a great time at a car boot sale today (at the local school). Got a few nice things for M and was very proud of DD1 who's 5, and while I was feeding M she went round and spent her money on presents for M (3 cuddly toys), me and DH (chocolate and fake flowers), her friends (little rings) and the next door neighbours (lollies and a picture book). She had 1p left at the end!!

CarrieBo · 26/04/2009 21:27

Tee hee ninja

CarrieBo · 26/04/2009 21:27

And bless your dd1!

Meglet · 26/04/2009 21:30

Just getting this on my threads as I haven't been on this one in a while.

No teeth here either but dd is almost crawling, she gets in the right position and rocks, then flops on the floor . She just needs practice.

Meglet · 26/04/2009 21:42

ponymum got the article here. Scary!!!

splishsplosh · 26/04/2009 21:58

No teeth for dd2 either, but Ilike the gummy smile, so am in no hurry. I'm sure they'll appear at some point- she's been chomping on her fingers and dribbling for months.

Carrie Croydon meet - Kidspace is good for older kids, but v expensive for a 1 off visit. I used to have a membership there, and never got to sit down much either, so it's not the best place to meet for a chat anyway til kids are old enough to disappear off safely.

Never been to the other place, though it's on the same site as Kidspace - sounds ok, and is accessible by public transport- 119 and 289 buses stop in the car park, and easy for anyone driving as it's on the A23.

Picnics - nice idea if only could guarantee good weather. There's meant to be a good park in Caterham with nice wooden equipment and a sandpit....

For someone who lives here, I'm rubbish . I usually spend my time at local parks, libraries and childrens centres.

Ponymum · 26/04/2009 22:28

Tee hee ninja - you sound funny. Would have liked to meet you. As you say, next time.

carriebo - of course you only said nice things, as there are only nice things to say, surely?

ILTMIMI - no, not a writer! But I would love to make my living that way if I could.
I remember when I did the "career advice" session at school aged 13 and I said I wanted to be an author. They told me that it was unrealistic, wouldn't make any money, and it wasn't a real job anyway! Decades later I am now setting writing goals for myself just to see what I can do.

Ponymum · 26/04/2009 22:29

Would you believe I have only just discovered that there is a talk topic called "the tack room" all about horsey things! OMG, I could be on here all night!

Hopefully · 27/04/2009 00:47

Ponymum in my (extremely novice) professional opinion, there's no reason at all you shouldn't be able to make a living from writing - love the article! Although if you edit enough financial journalism, everything else is interesting...

My mother is staying, and I am already bored of it - she is in T's room and has loudly informed me (bearing in mind it's 12:45am and I was trying to quietly resettle T) that he has woken because it's cold. It's 21 degrees in his room. She also refused to help with dinner because she was tired after driving down to see us. Bearing in mind that I hadn't slept for more than 20 minutes in one go for most of the previous night, my sympathy (and my enthusiasm for cooking) was slightly lacking.

ninja · 27/04/2009 09:33

how does m manage to make the writing go small - she does it EVERY time! I can't do it if i try

thanks for thinking i'm funny, dh wouldn't agree, he thinks me and my 2 sisters share a sense of humour

it was funny when jenbot managed to ask (with an impressively straight face) if i was off in japan being a ninja. (i don't think post 2 babies i look much like a ninja!)

plusonemore · 27/04/2009 12:18

hi all, great article ponymum

shocking fact from health visitor group dental talk this morning, more sugar in a farleys rusk than a jam doughnut, more sugar in a 'sugar free farleys rusk' than a chocolate digestive!!!!!!

digitalgirl · 27/04/2009 12:52

hopefully hope your night improved. How about getting your mum to resettle T tonight if she knows whats best? Then hot/cold it's not your problem...she'll have to find a way to get him to sleep!

DS woke around midnight and would not be consoled without a feed from me. I'm wondering if this is because I'm purposefully trying to cut the daytime feeds - so when I leave him for work it's not too much of a shock. I've not breastfed him since 6:30 this morning, he's currently just gone down for his nap after being awake for a record 4 hours! My little baby is growing up! Anyway, hoping to bf when he wakes and then will try not to bf again till bed-time. Will offer cow's milk in a cup in between. Does that sound ok? He'll have had 3 main breastfeeds.

Potentially tomorrow I'll get my mum to replace the lunchtime breastfeed with a cup of formula.

Feels so strange not feeding him so often. I worry that if he's not eating much solids then I'm doubly depriving him. It's so difficult to know if he's getting everything he needs. I suppose I just keep an eye on his nappies.

CarrieBo · 27/04/2009 14:28

splish I went to primary school in Caterham! There are two parks - one on the hill and one in the valley.
We could always go back to the starbucks on the A23 plan!
Anyway I'm rubbish at making decisions, I picked a date so please please someone else be decisive about a venue!!

Took ds to his 6 week eczema check up today and they're really pleased with his progress. I've had to put him in disposable nappies overnight as 12 hours in a washable was making his eczema flare up really badly on his thighs, but its pretty much gone now. Only his ear is still sore, knees are better too, as is the sandpaper skin. I got him weighed too - to still be on the 9th centile he should have been 15lb15oz and he was....16lb 11oz! Clever little boy!
