Here's how the saline thing goes: you use the individual use ampules of saline solution. You lay bubs on your lap facing downwards and squirt each nostril. The snot comes out the opposite nostril. You have to make it super quick because they don't enjoy it!

DebiTheScot · 19/04/2009 21:18

cheers its worth a try. That does sound more effective than what i've done before. Where will I get the stuff? I did buy drops once before but they didn't really work and then had to throw it out after 4 weeks so individual ones sound better.

Sunshinemummy · 20/04/2009 10:56

Hi all - what a lovely weekend and Everton won yesterday so DP really happy.

DD is 8 months today and I can't believe it's absolutely flown. She's so close to crawling and desparate to pull herself up. Nursery keep saying to me she's so strong (which is funny because she's really little - only on 2nd percentile) they think that once she gets going she'll walk really quickly afterwards. She's definite in what she wants and tries her best to get there.

DebiTheScot · 20/04/2009 13:22

couldn't get the individual saline things. So just got the dropper one but the woman in the pharmacy said I can squirt it in, don't have to stick to the 2 drops it says on the bottle. So we'll see if that helps with his bottle later. he is a bit better today anyway. I'm just sleep deprived from him being unsettled for last couple of nights and feeding twice in night.

Debs75 · 20/04/2009 14:50

Leonie your dd's are beautiful, can't believe dd2 is standing already she looks like she has been doing it for weeks. Robyn has only just got the hang of sitting up for 5 mins without falling over.

Jenbot when and where is the Leeds meet?

Robyn is getting good at eating now she can pick up small poeces of food. Everything either goes in her mouth or straight on the floor tho as she is still quite clumsy. Have to think of some different ideas on what to feed her, toast and veggies must be getting boring. Although we did spice it up yesterday with salmon and birthday cake.
She pooed this morning and it was huge!!

Pacita · 20/04/2009 14:54

Hope the saline works and you can get a rest, Debi. I am also rather demoralised and tired due to lack of sleep. I only feed him once, but he still wakes up and needs resettling. I wish I knew why.

Pacita · 20/04/2009 14:56

Actually, could constipation affect their sleep? He is seriously constipated, and I think it is due to his cereal..

Jenbot · 20/04/2009 15:04

Leeds lets stick with Wednesday 11am in the Borders cafe??

sunshinemummy oh we were celebrating Everton's win too (on behalf of my dad who is the fan)!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/04/2009 15:32

Constipation can be really uncomfortable, so I wouldn't be surprised if it affects sleep. Have you tried cutting out the cereal? Or add stewed fruit to it?

I found that Aptamil causes constipation in M. Each baby is different and different formula's will affect them in different ways.

OP posts:
Hopefully · 20/04/2009 15:41

Pacita when T's constipation is bad, he is up anything up to 10 times a night. When it's not bad, he only wakes once or twice, so it def makes a difference to him!

plusonemore · 20/04/2009 16:17

oooh ladies are you sure about squirting saline up their noses? If anyone did that to me I think I would be sick!

Well, I think constipation must be the culprit. Yes, I always give him cereal with stewed fruit, but maybe i need to stop it altogether... He refuses to drink water, and he does not like oraange juice. All i got him to try today was 2 teaspoons.

And his bum has gone all sore as a result too. Sigh.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/04/2009 17:58

Have you tried him with satsuma segments Pacita?

Also melon, strawberries, cucumber etc have a high water content.

digitalgirl · 20/04/2009 18:10

OMG Leonie your DDs are sooo adorable I'm crying! That one of your DD1 in her uniform is just so so so sweet!

Am slowly recovering from weirdo bug that saw me feeling queasy on Thursday, really queasy and knackered on Friday, hallucinating Friday and Saturday night, dizzy all day Sunday, headachey and knackered today. So odd. If it wasn't for that quite obvious period last week then I'd be wondering if I was pg .

DS was a stubborn little monkey last night and refused to resettle unless I fed him. Wouldn't accept a bottle off DH. He'd had such a massive lunch that he didn't eat much for dinner, which is maybe why he didn't sleep through as he did the night before. So now I'm wanting to stuff him as much as possible for dinner. And of course this evening he couldn't eat much because his gums were bothering him. So do I breastfeed him tonight if he wakes or do we go through all the other charades for the first 90 minutes again?

He's Mr Jolly today though! A little clingy, I can't seem to leave him for long enough on his mat for him to get any crawling attempts going on. He's running in the walker though .

We went to visit the nursery we're hoping to put him in for a couple of days a week come September. It looks so good, I'm sure he'll be very happy there. All the toddlers were out in the garden playing in the sunshine!

So are we saying week after next for N London meet up?

splishsplosh · 21/04/2009 07:15

YAWN - can i use as approp emoticon?

Didn't go to bed til after midnight- had already settled dd2 twice since 7pm. She woke again at 1.30ish, and 3 hours later, then 1 hour later, and i gave up on her going back to sleep then - had to wander round house cos she was crying, and didn't want dd1 up.

Maybe too many lentils? Seemed quite windy. Usually wakes a few times after i go to bed, but only to feed sleepily, not proper awake. So i have had hardly any sleep, and feel shattered.Wouldn't be sobad but is hard on top of a ton of stress about life in general at the moment.

Leonie your pics are lovely, and your baby looks so competent standing!

Debi hope snot settling and your ds can breathe more easily

right - off to have shower and hopefully de-zombify myself

Hopefully · 21/04/2009 08:37

Hmmm, another good night. It does seem slightly unreasonable that T is capable of only feeding once from 8pm-7am, with only one other brief waking as well, yet mostly he wakes 5-6 times and feeds at least twice.

Need to phone childminders today, really need to crack on with that! It's not like I don't want to put T in childcare, I just can't seem to get into gear enough to phone a couple of childminders...

Pacita · 21/04/2009 10:35

Sorry Splish, I know how you feel... I hate those days when they day ahead seems to be as heavy as a ton of bricks. Try to squeeze in a bit of a nap, it'll make you feel so much better. xx

splishsplosh · 21/04/2009 11:28

Pacita if only!
dd2 was so shattered herself that she screamed miserably while i got us all ready to take dd1 to preschool, then fell asleepthe moment i popped her in sling (couldn't do that earlier as had forgotten to take it out of washing machine last night,so was still damp), now just fallen asleep again, but i have to leave to go and pick dd1 up in half an hour.....

oh well,at least it's a lovely sunny day ,might go pack a picnic and go to the park

DebiTheScot · 21/04/2009 20:03

it's been very quiet here today, have you all been out enjoying the sun?

DS2 getting less congested and did better with his milk tonight so seems like he's getting better. The poor thing seems to have been congested and coldy constantly for the last 7 months.

digitalgirl · 21/04/2009 21:08

We've had a lovely day! After a long morning nap we went to the park. DS ate loads for lunch, had a short post-lunch nap and then ate loads for dinner. So am hoping for a wake-free night.

On the other hand, I am unofficially jobless. My name's been taken off the company website. But I can't bring myself to call/email them to confirm it. I've never truly been without work. Even when freelancing I always had long-term contracts. It is soooo much harder trying to find work after an 8 month break, which was preceded by 8 months of not really doing much CV boosting stuff because I was preggars and didn't care about my career.

Pacita · 21/04/2009 21:59

Digi, don't fret, there will be something coming your way soon. You have experience and contacts, for sure. Did you decide to leave because of the commute or did they let you go?

I had a glorious day in the park too, with a hungry baby who I hope will sleep at least until 5 without waking. Fingers crossed...

About the NL meetup, it is looking like the week after next at the mo, if digi, notcitrus, jenpet, and star can make it. Star, we can always come and meet you at Fisnbury park station to help with buggies and stuff. How about 7th of May, Thursday?
