Welcome ladies

Well, there's no crawling going on in our house, but there's defo some separation anxiety bawling going on .... tears, screaming, the works - oh joy!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

N London I can't do Monday, Tues or Wed next week. Friday would be good?
The week after I could only do Tuesday, but once in May I'm totally free. Except the Croydon meetup of course!

The only reason for follow-on milk is companies can't advertise infant formula, but if they say 'only for babies over 6 months' they can. Presto: follow-on was invented. I've heard some people say it bungs up their babies so will stick to SMA Gold - I've been using cartons but have been given 2 huge cans so could figure out how to make that up.

Pacita I've been told that thing about putting effort into either moving or talking. Although now A seems to be doing both, he's crawling backwards and can move forwards if he can pull on something. He's just realised the world contains cool stuff outside his reach, and this is Not Satisfactory...

went shopping this morning and was looking for summer sleeping bags for ds2. The 1 tog ones in Mothercare were £25 but I got a 1.5 tog one in Primark for £6! bargain. And just ordered a 1 tog one from an ebay shop for £12, not bad at all really. Now I'm on the hunt for a 0.5 tog one for daytime and really hot nights (she says optimistically!)

So is Thursday next week good for everyone in N London (except Jenbot)?

Feeling MUCH better today. Although still taking it easy and getting DH to do the bulk of the work with DS. Last night was terrible. DS woke up at 11pm and DH attempted to resettle with no luck for the first hour, then he tried leaving him for 10 minutes, after half an hour he was still crying so DH gave him some water. After half an hour he was still crying when I asked if DH had tried giving him milk. DH stomped off downstairs to defrost some (now seriously out of date) EBM, but by the time he'd done it DS finally fell asleep (after 2 hours of solid crying). Good thing too. I'd forgotten to take all the EBM out of the freezer as it's been in there since Dec/Jan.

He just wanted me and probably some boob, but I couldn't face breastfeeding him as the rush of hormones with let-down nearly caused me to puke on his head earlier in the evening.

So anyway, after that he slept through till 7am. Woke up happy and chipper. God I'm a cruel mother.

Leonie wow, very impressed with your mobile baby!

pacita am also beginning to think about formula for some of the daytime feeds. But until I get any prospect of work I just don't see the point in adding to my daily chores with prepping bottles etc. Knowing my luck I'll get offered some freelance work right at the last minute and have to express in the office as I won't have had time to cut down feeds gradually.
Have you thought about cutting out one of the feeds (either mid-morning or mid-afternoon) and not replacing it? He may just take more at the other feeds or start eating more solids? Apart from this last week while DS has been off his solids, I usually only offer a feed after his naps (and also at bedtime) - sometimes he skips a nap therefore skips a feed.

Pacita · 18/04/2009 18:47

Hello, what a lovely sunny day its' been! We've spent it at the park.

DG, glad you are feeling better. I so dread that feeling of almost puking on your baby's head - I had to shout for my DP to come quickly and get D during a night feed so that I could run to the loo!

Thursday next week would be fine with me for a meetup. I think Jenbot can't do it though, but I can't do the following week. How about Notcitrus and Starlight?

Debs75 · 18/04/2009 19:08

Imoscarsmum - going back on 15 July, full-time.
Lollyheart- started a new job on tues 14th april, p/t
Plusonemore- return to work September, 3 days a week. DS1&2 in nursery
Hopefully - theoretically going back part time in September, hoping to find an alternative. DS at childminder.
ILTMIMI - SAHM
Starlight - SAHM (unless anyone can find me affordable childcare for 2 preschoolers)
DebitheScot- probably going back 1st week in June (haven't actually told boss that yet), 3 days a week till summer then 2 from Sept. Ds1&2 at childminder.
Becaroo - SAHM - at least til ds2 is older or I get back to studying!
Ponymum - back at work f/t pending redundancy, then panic
Kagey - return to work approx 14th July, part time (3 days a week if boss agrees). DD at Nursery.
NotCitrus - return 3 days early August, pfb in nursery 2 days, with MrNC on his day off. Have nursery arranged but their spaces for Aug and my start date and what project I'll get to do are still up in the air.
Pacita - going back, gradually over the next month. Will start from home, end up doing 3 days a week. (this is the plan)
Digitalgirl - hoping to start freelancing before the end of May, but currently searching for a part-time job - 3 days a week.
CarrieBo - SAHM
Sunshinemummy - was due back f-t on 2nd March but got made redundant. F-t in new role since 23rd March
Debs75 - SAHM until Robyn at school then msy try and get something in a school. Or babysitting dd1's dc. lol.

Breastfeeding, I originally wanted to do it for a month or so but that quickly turned into however long i can. Would like to reach a year then i can miss out formula. lso she won't take a bottle of formula but will sip water. I figure i have enough milk so will keep going. It would be nice to have her self-wean so i don't feel like i am depriving her.

Leonie it sounds like you are comparing dd's and looking for 'danger' signs. I know wexactly how you feel. Try and enjoy dd2, has anyone told you the chances of her having an asd?

leonie OMG!!! crawling and standing up!!! wow, am mightily impressed with babyleonie I am doing a PT degree with the OU and love it - I would really recommend it.

WRT follow on milk...I have ff both my dc and I'm afriad I fall into the "think its marketing crap" camp Can see no earlty reason to use it, frankly. Ds2 will be on 1st milk til 1 then cows milk afterwards.

Toby had some garlic bread and vanilla ice cream after his puree this evening - his next nappy should be interesting!!

Pacita · 18/04/2009 20:56

Ok, so no one uses follow on milk. Is it worse, or is it just not worth the bother? are there any clear pros or cons? I have no clue...

starlight be a shame to miss you. Where are you coming from - we could perhaps meet near a step-free access station or handy bus route?

I can do this Thurs.

A is getting faster at moving, and crawls backwards very well...

splishsplosh · 18/04/2009 23:44

carrie
I'm still up for the Croydon meetup. I think I passed the Starbucks you mentioned - wasn't it on the A23? I saw that the 405 bus stops just nearby, so it is in theory possible for us public transport users. Been trying to think of other possible meeting places, but inspiration hasn't struck yet

Hopefully · 19/04/2009 08:23

Humph, after me saying it was a coincidence, T was again awful for me last night and perfect for DP. May swap shifts and see if he's still crappo for DP.

at standing and crawling baby! It's still an exciting day when T rolls over! Although he can sit up for a few minutes now. right up until something interesting catches his attention and he gently keels over when he turns his head...

pacita I use follow on. I know its not any better than normal milk but its no worse either I don't think, and its cheaper sometimes. That was my only reason for switching to that from sma blue.

Pacita · 19/04/2009 13:53

Hmmh, Diego is super constipated now, producing poos that look like hardened playdoh. Should I go back to Aptamil number 1? Could it be teh cereal he eats for dinner?

Re NL meetup, it now turns out I cannot do thrusday either , nor next week. I can do the week after though...

Pacita · 19/04/2009 13:54

forgot to say, Leonie, I'm in awe of your little one!

pacita Toby is on aptamil no 1 and have never had a problem with it re: poos.

Forgot to mention he and ds1 are now sharing a bedroom!!! Not making either of them sleep better though

DebiTheScot · 19/04/2009 19:52

grrrrrr ds2 is still so stuffed up that he won't drink his milk. That's 3 days now he's had hardly any esp in aft and eve. Let's hope he's better tomorrow.

Pacita · 19/04/2009 20:41

Debi have you tried clearing his nose with saline solution? They don't like it while you do it, but they breathe (sleep adn eat) a lot better afterwards. That and sleeping a bit raised.

DebiTheScot · 19/04/2009 20:49

Haven't tried that but have tried the snot sucker thing and have olbus oil in room. Its right at the back of his nose/throat though so not easy to shift. Had forgotten about propping cot up though even though I did it last time he was stuffed up so thanks for reminder.

becaroo · 19/04/2009 20:56

second the saline drops advice....do it about 15 mins before a feed HTH x
