FORGOT ... me and DH have both decided that we are having a night away. Sort of two days and one night . Cleared it with my mum today who will have kiddies and she said her and dad were saying last night we should have a night away. Just dont know where ... want it to be nice but need to be careful with £. Was thinking sea side or dales or something. Lots of fresh air, old type place, places to walk and pubs to sneak into . Maybe whitby, I like the look of this place freespace.virgin.net/batsand.broomsticks/. Not a goth but like it . Not a normal "boring" b&b. Ideas?
Night, night ... been up since 5.30am.

LackaDAISYcal · 09/03/2009 22:57

vbab, bumble is 18 weeks and hasn't had his third lot yet. Letter says next week, but I think I'll tkae him tomorrow...mind you they might not do it if he has an ear infection?

good for you and DH . Whitby is fab and the B&B looks great

is it maybe growing pains? DS1 complains of them all the time, has done for ages, but not sure as young as 2.5. Sometimes kids will complain of pains somewhere when they are feeling a bit insecure about things. Maybe a response to the amount of adjustment he has had to do since A arrived?

OP posts:
PinkyMinxy · 09/03/2009 22:58

That would be fabby, Daisy Are you feeling ok?

vbab there was a really interseting thread yonks ago about 'growing pains'. DH had them, badly, but he was older- nearer 6-7.
Poor love, little 'A' .
Sounds like big brother is looking after her, bless him.x

PinkyMinxy · 09/03/2009 23:05

Whitby is lovely, vbab

Roca, I wouldn't leave over what is going on over at the weaning borad. As much as I plan on following BLW AFTER 26 weeks with Zack (due to allergies ect), I weaned ds1 at 16 weeks as that was the norm then and he is absolutely fine, and certainly miles healthier than ds2 who was not weaned until 8 months. It's time people took their heads out of their arses and realised that EVERY parent has their own idea's of how best to raise their kids and that included when to wean and how.

Vbab, I think it would be a good idea to try your ds in pants full time during the day. Alas, my ds2 who is nearly 4.9 is STILL wet and often diry during the day and it has got so bad I have no choice but to use pull ups during the day if we go out, he can't possibly regress any further. As for growing pains, I remember having them as a child and ds1 suffered (and still does) with them terrible from the age of 2. Que lots of leg massage, a warmed up wheat bag and when he's really distraught, calpol. We notice it most when he's having growth spurts. Good luck with A's jabs tomorrow. I guess I should think about getting Zack in for his 1st lot

tegan · 10/03/2009 07:07

Good morning all.I feel fresh as a daisy today O went down at 9.0 last night and is still there now without even a stir in the night. the cluster feeding seems to of slowed down and he only feeds twice in 2 hours now which is a great improvement on the constent feeding and me feeling drained from it. Just thought i would ask, we are going away in april and O will be 5 months old would it be ok to use my zap rather than my bulky m&p buggy i use all the time now???

Morning

I have started to turn Sam around in the Baby Bjorn on the walk to nursery - even though he hasn't got great head control, he seems ok and I reckon it will be good exercise for him Also I didn't want him to keep falling asleep on the walk (mean mummy that I am) so this way keeps him awake so he can nap properly once we get home.

Vbab DS1 started complaining that his foot hurt when Sam came along - only at night time though and not every night We wondered if it was growing pains but am thinking it is more what Daisy said. It has actually tailed off now so maybe he is starting to feel more secure - tbh, I used to deal with it by giving his foot a little rub and if this didn't work, giving him a tiny amount of calpol - seemed to make him feel better Lol at your DS being protective - DS1 did that at nursery a few weeks ago - some of the children came to have a look at Sam. DS1 looked quite proud for about 30 seconds and then he started pushing them gently out of the way and telling them to go and sit back down

Tegan well done to O - it really is a lovely feeling when you realise you have had a full night's sleep.

Am off to look at the Mothercare website now for a highchair - don't even know where to start on this as there are too many choices!

MerryMarigold · 10/03/2009 10:30

Ceebee and vbab. LOL at the little bit of calpol to make foot better. We give ds1 Minadex vitamins when he's not feeling 'well' or something is hurting. If it's genuine he doesn't get any better and give some Calpol, if not he feels well (almost immediately!).

I feel at the end of my tether, am so tired. Babies are up soooooooooo much in the night, I don't know what to do. All the routine queens will be saying 'Told you so'...but I just find it imposssible to get into a strict routine. Bedtime is 'routine' always 7.30-8.30 (usually go up at 7.30 and feed etc., they're both asleep by 8.30). They were waking twice a night for several weeks, but the past 3 weeks has gone crazy. Mirissa has been waking up 11,1,3,5. Jude was waking once or twice but last night was 2,5 (she woke him) and up for good at 6.30. Then they were tired by the time I was getting them dressed/ ds1 ready to go playschool and screamed for a full half hour! They are not sleeping a huge amount in the day - just catching up in the morning on the lack of sleep at night, but Mirissa is usually up from about 1pm till bedtime and they go off to sleep ok so don't think they are over tired at night. Just don't know what to do. Am pulling hair out. Ds1 did this too, but it was ok as it was just him and could catch up on sleep in the day. What I want to know is why did people used to wean at 4 months? Is it because of this? Does it make any difference? I need to do SOMETHING, but I don't know where to start and I am too tired to have any good ideas.

Heartmum2Jamie · 10/03/2009 10:59

MM, it could be a sleep regression. I know Zack is not sleeping as well as he did. He was doing 10.30-7.30, quick feed then down until 10am. Now he is doing 10.30 - 4, then 5, then 7 & 8 and up at 9. Plus he is not catching up on lost sleep during the day, so he is a bit of a bear at the minute.

This makes interesting reading.

I had Zack weighed this morning and his weight has really tapered off. He went from 8lb 11oz at birth, to 15lb 5oz at 3 months. It's been 4 weeks since he was last weighed and he's now 15lb 11oz, although admittedly, this was on an empty tummy (I fed him as soon as we got back), so I guess if he takes 4-6 oz at each feed, he would have weighed 4-6oz more. I also had a go at measuring his height at home and although it's not exactly accurate, I got him to be roughly 67cm . If this is anywhere near right, he has jumped from the 50th to the 91st centile but his weight has dropped from almost the 91st to just above the 50th. The height would explain why I don't think he will be in his infant carrier much longer, so i guess I better start looking for a bigger car seat for ds2, so Zack can go rear facing in the Britax. Any suggestions for a proper car seat for ds2? He'll be 5 in June, is just over 1 metre tal and weighs 32lb I would prefer to have him in a proper harness rather than a seat that uses the seatbelt.

UmSami · 10/03/2009 11:14

Merry poor you! I'm struggling with sleep at the moment too, mainly due to ds (3 this month) rather than squidge, guess I've only got 2...no right to complain! (Though I'm off to start a thread doing just that if my 5 mins peace continues LOL)

As for everyone else...i'm too sleep deprived to remember who said what but WOW I'm so impressed by the social lives you guys have...concerts, dinner parties, weekends away I'm doing something seriously wrong!

Am stuck in the house at the mo due to horrific sand storm...the sky is actually orange, very bizarre..never seen anything like it...really making me look forward to coming home to UK...oh and DH has just called to say he'll be staying in office tonight unless things improve as visibility is SO bad...my poor babies are gonna have mud in their lungs!

AutumnLady · 10/03/2009 11:32

Roca - just had a quick look at the other thread and 'purlease' don't leave us! People do get very het up and go on the attack which is why I tend to only post here!

OK, here goes.....

I have started feeding J pureed fruit and veg already as he was getting fed up of milk and just refusing to drink it! ... he's 4 and half months and took to a spoon straight away ... he now enjoys his milk again and sleeps from 7pm-7am. I say each to their own personally and hate the fact that you have to justify your actions to others. Had J weighed last week at his 3rd injections and he was 12lb 5oz, just a long skinny boy!

please don't throw things at me for feeding purees from a spoon

xx

UmSami · 10/03/2009 11:33

Heartmum Have you looked at the Britax Evolva...I'm looking at it for DS, he's too tall now for his Maxi Cosi...I initially disregarded it when he was smaller, but used it in a hire car last summer it was fab. Figure I can also use if for squidge when she gets to 9 MO if need be

WOW you do have a long boy...my DS got long and thin at about 4-5 months too, I spent months worrying about his weight gain and now squdge seems to be going the same way...I wish I could offer something helpful, but just trying to reassure...my HV at the time said it was all down to growth spurts and an active baby...

LackaDAISYcal · 10/03/2009 11:40

lol tegan, i hope you don't feel as fresh as this daisy, as that isn't very fresh at all this morning

MerryM, I'm with you lovely on the random increased wakings. Bumble and Mirissa must be soul mates as we have been seeing 11, 1, 3 and 5 as well for the last week or so....but at least I only have him to deal with and not two of them. I feel for you. Mind you, DD was up as well last night so I had to sit and cuddle her for 20 minutes before she would go back to bed.

So, I was in a bit of a rage when DH came breezing in at 7.10 with a cup of tea telling me I needed to get up as he was running late and had to get a shift on . He stays up late, sleeps on the sofa so I have to do all the getting up in the night, then sleeps in and gets on at me for not jumping out of bed as soon as he wakes me.....which he is meant to do at 6.30 if I'm not already awake. Boy was I spitting chips, especially as he told me I should go to bed earlier so I wasn't so tired in the morning . The bare faced cheek of the man. Maybe if he at least got up to deal with DD then it would make my nights easier. And of course, I'm bloody knackered today and I just know that if I haven't done the bits of housework I said I would, he will be all when he gets home.

ooops a wee bit ranty there . He is usually fab (and takes care of the kitchen/dinging room and does the majority of the washing, but sometimes just makes me go a lot

Heartmum....how about this one. Britax website is pretty good for finding the right seat as it has a child fit finder plus a car fit finder on it so you can be sure you are getting the right model for you

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 10/03/2009 11:49

umsami, sandstorm sounds horrible. poor you.

lol autumnlady, no judging allowed here, as we always say, each to their own. I'd just be careful with thing things like meats and cereals which aren't recommended pre 6 months and would stick to fruit veg and baby rice.

more ranting....I'm coming down with a horrible cold which could put my operation on hold

OP posts:
Heartmum2Jamie · 10/03/2009 11:57

Thanks Daisy & UmSami, I have been looking at the Britax Evolva 1 2 3, it makes the most sense to go for a seat that will see him through until he is old enough to not need a booster. I like that I can continue to keep him in a 5 point harness until he gets too big for it (which by my estimation & following his centile line in his red book will be when he's 6).

Yep, Zack is a big boy, lol! I am not worried about him in anyway, I am sure he will chunk out before shooting up again. My ds1 grows the same way. Gets a little expensive as seems he shoots up over night and all his clothes ar too short in the arms/legs

Heartmum2Jamie · 10/03/2009 11:59

Have you got any first defence Lacks? I find it doesn't always stave off a cold, but seems to make the duration shorter and severity less. Worth a try?

AutumnLady · 10/03/2009 12:20

Thanks Lacks I'm only giving him fruit and veg at the moment as know that he is a little too young for meat etc. He didn't like the baby rice I gave him but LOVES anything banana-like or blueberry/mango type stuff and also sweet potato/carrot/sweetcorn. quite grownup for someone so small It just seems to suit him and he's filling out now - he was worrying me when he wouldn't drink much milk as he really is just a slip of a boy

LackaDAISYcal · 10/03/2009 12:20

can I take that when BFing? If so, I'll grab some this afternoon when I'm out.
I know you can't take things like lemsips etc as the phenylephrine or whatever can affect your supply, but maybe that's not such a bad thing if I'm away from bumble on Thursday night? afaik it's only a short term effect so might actually help????

I'm taking bumble to get his jabs done even though he isn't invited till next week, as I don't think DH wil cope with the whole clinic experience next week when I'm laid up. jaunita will know what I mean . I have thrush again as well so will get something for that, although not sure whether to wait till after my op (as they normally give IV ABs don't they?) and bumble has finished his ABs as well or else I'll be fighting a losing battle.

OP posts:
tegan · 10/03/2009 12:34

On the car seat subject we have had O in the Britax first plus seat (was dd2's) for around 3 weeks now ( rear facing) and he loves it. I am considering turning it around as he was 14lb7 last weeks when he was weighed and he holds his head wonderfully.

Heartmum2Jamie · 10/03/2009 12:38

Actually Lacks, I just saw it said you should ask your doctor before taking (must admit, I have taken it and didn't as my dr . I know about not taking things like lemsip or anything that claims to dry up secretions, but as far as I know, first defence is mainly used to trap getrms in the back of the throat before they have chance to mutiply too badly, nothing about drying up secretions or anything.

What op are you having Lacks, I admit to not having read the whole thread.

UmSami · 10/03/2009 12:41

lacka it seems like our dh's are clones! Though i'll take your 20 mins and raise you 2 hours! DS refuses to let DH anywhere near him at bed time, and seems to spend the whole night trying to negotiate his way into my bed...and what with squidge wriggling her way to me from her bedside cot, well its a good job dh is in the spare room!
Good luck with the op by the way...I'm still too new to know whats going on but I hope it's nothing too serious

I'm so tempted to try squidge with something solid, she sits with us at dinner and it's becoming increasingly hard to keep her hands off my plate (and to stop her typing...she's helping can you tell?). I was convinced by my gp to try ds at 4 months but i regreted it and stopped so i'll try and hold out till 4 months this time

gotta go, i'm feeling vibrations!

juanitad · 10/03/2009 12:46

might see you at clinic, lacks, i'm heading there too, haven't had him weighed in ages, thought it was about time. might ask hv to measure him as well - did it myself yesterday but think i must have done it wrong, as i got him to be 70cm which is off the chart! He's long, but not crazy long....I think!

Heartmum2Jamie · 10/03/2009 12:57

Tegan, Babies should not be turned forward facing until they are over 9kg AND minimum 9 months old, regardless of how well they sit up or hold their head. Personally, I would keep my children rear facing as long as possible as it is by far safer than forward facing. DS2 was rear facing until he was almost 2. He may have looked uncomfy with his legs being frogged up, but he never complained. The are clssed as too big for rear facing when thier eyes are level with the top of the seat (in the case of infant carriers.

I would read this and this

tegan · 10/03/2009 13:23

Ok so i should wait a while before turning the car seat but what about using a quinny zapp for a week when O is 5 months is that a big no no too
