a question for you please
to me samuel seems quite long in length on his weight hes on the 9th centile
and for his length hes on the 25th centile
now im of the old fashioned world of parenting which means i havnt got a clue what this means......lol
hes in 9-12 mths and they fit perfectly in the arms and length and everyone says wow hes so long and tall for his age
do these measurments mean hes quite long.

Isaidno · 17/03/2009 07:29

Basically the 50th centile is bang on "average", so Sam must be shorter than average.

Isaidno · 17/03/2009 07:33

Actually everyone says Poppy is little; she is on about the 20th centile for weight and is just about 17lb at 9 mths. She is wearing all 6-9 mth stuff, perhaps a couple of 3-6 mth dresses. Real nappies fill up clothes a bit I suppose, but dresses fit for ages - they just get shorter!!

Re: size issues I think proportion wise every baby is different & that the centile lines don't really 'mean' much IYSWIM. Weight isn't distributed in the same areas for everyone! P is only just 17lbs (IME she was 16lbs 3oz only a couple of weeks ago!) & on 25th centile for weight at 7 months but is slightly above 50th centile for length. 3-6 months stuff fits her waist but not her length. Plus I think the charts are different for boys & girls so her weight & length now & the lines she is on would be different if she was a boy...does that make sense? Clothes are done on a baby average & not gender specific so that is prob a factor when picking sizes! Which is why boys on same centile lines as girls are in bigger clothes. Just a thought!

DH has fixed the PC just have to reinstall software & re save our personal settings. But he managed to recover his work!

Hope everyone is ok, I'm off to 'do' breakfast...wish me luck! Then gonna wander round to the doctors. Will catch up more later.

disneystar · 17/03/2009 12:48

ok isaidno thx
i guess sam would be short as im 4ft 11 and his dads 5ft 10
well ive just sold my car so i can go shopping for the first time in weeks without worrying.
samuels just had his lunch and has crashed out,so hes going in his cot then i can lunch in peace.....

pigleychez · 17/03/2009 12:59

Re size- Abigail about 17lbs now and on the 25th line for her weight and on the 98th line for her height!!

Have the problem of waist v's length fitting with her clothes!

Bebe- glad your computers sorted now

disneystar · 17/03/2009 14:44

pigley if A is on the 98th centile for height and samuel is 50th she must be very long or tall......wow 98 eh !!

Isaidno · 17/03/2009 19:01

Poppy hasn't done a poo for 6 days. Any advice? She is showing no signs of discomfort, but I would be happier if she would do one!!

OP posts:
pigleychez · 17/03/2009 19:55

Isaidno- HV advised water with a few drops of fresh orange juice when Abigail wasnt going which seemed to help.

Prunes or diluted Prune juice?
Apricots are supposed to be a natural laxative too.

sweetkitty · 17/03/2009 20:06

Isaidno - one HV advised me to give orange juice, next one told me off for leaving it 7 days without a poo, marched me off to the GP for suppositories (this was for DD2 not me BTW) not pleasant but REALLY did the trick, she seemed to have a really hard dry poo impacted up there.

We weighed B on the WiiFit a few weeks ago and she was 17lbs too, seems 17lbs is the weight to be

Agree about body shapes, DD1 was tiny 9th centile all the way, she still isn't 15kg now at 4 1/2, she is all legs, DD2 is a pound lighter than her. B is long too and is really starting to fill out, think they are at their chubbiest about 9-10 months then they start to move and sprout upwards.

bebejones - glad your pc is fixed

Lovely day here today we were all out in the garden, I sold the P&T yesterday to a lovely MNer who has promised to give it a loving home I bought a second hand M&P Luna on ebay and it also arrived today, am not happy with it, the description was a bit it's a lovely pram just well worn should have just gotten a new one, trying to save pennies.

Am ordering bunk beds tomorrow for the older two, once they are in together B will finally have a nursery not that she will sleep in it. Sleep is still a nightmare, still up about 3-4 times wanting a wee comfort suck.

Isaidno · 17/03/2009 20:20

sk - after 7 days when you had to get suppositories was your dd uncomfortable or grumpy?
Haven't got time for docs tomorrow, might go Thurs if still no poo. No harm in a bit of oj I suppose.

disneystar · 17/03/2009 20:28

isaidno samuel didnt go for 6 days and was starting to get uncomfortable and refusing food, i gave him orange juice and weetabix and a lovely warm bath ,put some vaseline on his bum i knew hed have a problem to begin with and he went in the bath.....lol

sweetkitty · 17/03/2009 21:03

Isaidno - No she was absolutely fine she was about 7 months and just started solids, think it ended up being about 9 days in total before she went oh and she did go lol

bebejones · 17/03/2009 21:13

HV told me to use diluted prune juice!! Also gave P some Ella's kitchen 'Butternut squash, Carrot, Apple & prunes' which she loved (bizarre child, tasted revoluting to me but she kept sticking her hand in the bowl & licking her fingers) and that produced a pretty impressive poo after 3 days of no poo!!!

Just measured P's length this evening & she is now just a couple of mm short of 70cm!!! Must look up see where this puts her on the bloomin chart!

Pigley, love the photos of your day out of FB, Abigail looks so grown up!

Nothing interesting to report here, off to watch tv with DH now that monkey is asleep!

Isaidno · 18/03/2009 07:32

Poppy managed a big lump of poo this morning, very firm but not hard. Will stuff her with apricots, prunes and the like to get everything moving faster next time.

OP posts:
Poledra · 18/03/2009 09:45

I'm coming to this discussion a bit late, but DD1 had terrible trouble with poos (still does, though it's getting better). I used to make a puree of prunes, dried apricots and apples (it's a La Karmel, i have to say) and put a spoonful of it on her porridge in the morning. It was very helpful

mama2leah · 18/03/2009 11:28

ahh leah is only 14lbs... hmm but measures 68 cm...

pooing- i jus giv her dried apriots and prunes as snacks...
quinoe makes a her poo tho....

guys im goin middleeast in april, ne ideas, tips for travel, food etc?

Isaidno · 18/03/2009 16:38

Hooray; another poo!
And a baby who is suddenly starving!

OP posts:
pigleychez · 18/03/2009 17:33

Isaidno- Glad Poppy is now unplugged!

M2L- Have you looked at the Travel pages on here? There are lots of seasoned travellers on there.

Its very quiet on here lately... where is everyone???

JODIEwantsanewname · 18/03/2009 19:07

Hi all, just checking in, am shattered and about to put DS1 to bed, just letting him watch the end of Peppa Pig!!!

Well quick update,Sam in now properly crawling and there is no stopping him getting what he wants! and also pulling himself up to standing, but only in his cot, not on the furniture yet, I think he's too small to reach yet! So here is where all the fun begins!!!! It's funny watching him crawl as DS1 didn't really crawl(just went from belly shuffling to walking, lazy child!)

Right gotta go, will catch up on all the posts later x

bebejones · 18/03/2009 21:14

I now have an un-pooing baby too! 3 days no poo (the longest she has gone...or should that be not gone ) Have been giving her plenty of water (most ends up down her front) she has a nice warm bath, gave her prune juice & orange juice (she didn't like the prune juice much but she generally isn't a juice fan) & this evening she sucked the life out of a very large prune. She is clearly uncomfortable & grizzly & clingy poor little thing, I will have to ring GP tomorrow I think her tummy feels like a rock & she is starting to refuse her feeds! (not good coz she isn't a brilliant feeder anyway!)

Just gonna upload some new pics of P & a video of her chatting to the cat, then off to bed I'm shattered!

Kaz1967 · 18/03/2009 21:25

Hiya everyone sorry not having a great time at the moment so not really managing to keep up and post hope everyone is ok

sweetkitty · 18/03/2009 22:55

Kaz - sorry to hear you are struggling right now, I know what that feels like unfortunately, keep posting we are all here for you x

Jodie - whoohoo well done Sam on crawling better move anything breakable/harmful/anything really from reach, Bethany not crawling proper just kind of shuffles and drags herself where she wants to be. She loves mirrors and will drag herself off to look at the mirrored cupboard doors we have and have a right giggle at herself.

Isaidno - glad Poppy's in full working order again bless her

Bebejones - and sorry to hear P's not herself either hope she is better tomorrow

Right am off to bed heres hoping for a restful nights sleep for us all xxx

Poledra · 18/03/2009 23:46

Crawling - wow!! Orlaith has just cracked rolling properly - she can go both back and forward and is rather pleased with herself. She hasn't worked out that she could travel over the floor this way yet...

Been sucked into a stoopid quiz on the net - must go to bed now!

pigleychez · 19/03/2009 10:37

Jodie- Go sam! Have to have eyes in the back of your head now
Abigail's bad enough and shes only shuffling around as opposed to proper crawling. The past few days shes discovered DH's PS3 and loves the beep it makes when she turns it on and this morning has worked out how to eject the cd's! Monkey!

Bebe- Hope the prunes do the trick! Love the Video of P chatting

Kaz- Sorry your feeling down Feel free to moan away on here

news here today. You may remember me saying that my Uncle has been diagnosed with Lung cancer. Will after more tests this week hes been told they dont expect him to see next year in
