morning all

interesting to read about other August babies' sleep patterns at the moment. i think the 11pm nappy change is working for us - although DS yelled the place down when i did it last night at midnight, he was fed and asleep in his own bed by 12.45 and didn't wake again till 5.45 [bliss] he still flooded his nappy and grobag, but hey ho. dunno how he managed to stay asleep as the house is like an icebox and he was frozen solid when i brought him in with us

he's now looking adorable in a pink cardigan knitted by my gran he'll be sleeping in it tonight, I expect!

Also managed to get him down for an hour's nap this morning without protest Going to try him with a bottle later, or is that pushing my luck?

Btw I should point out that since getting up the duff I have strictly been on a natural high So you can all put down the phone to Social Services.

cyteen · 06/01/2009 10:48

Cavey i had a dream the other night that Joe had woken up with a full set of teeth but they were grim adult teeth, all crooked and yellow and gappy like mine

sambo303 · 06/01/2009 11:26

i dont think i'm asleep long enough to dream

PetitFilou1 · 06/01/2009 11:36

TS Can I have your chicken tacos recipe please?

Made chicken hot pot with leeks, tarragon, creme fraiche and white wine on Sunday. dd loved it. Does that count as fecking cooking genius?? I was soooo chuffed that she ate it. ds1 would not have touched it with a barge pole!

If anyone has a beef in red wine recipe or something similar then I might try that on her as she loves strong flavours.

I am suspicious that ds1 is going off meat like I did as he seems to be going off even chicken atm (aargh)

dizzydixies · 06/01/2009 11:47

pf any decisions on a wedding outfit yet?

miamla the dress is a tad too large to be stuffed into handbag but am liling your suggestion

VG tis a quandry re childcare but I think you'd be taking on too much trying to work AND watch DS2 - agree with childminder though, am going to be looking for one for DD2 and DD3 when I go back to the shitehole work. I put DD2 into nursery (same one as DD1) at 1yr old and hated it so am going a different route. Its hard though as there is about to be a huge shift change in Oct and they will of course only tell us when they absolutely have to

word of mouth for recommendations and then meet them and get a feel for them

TS well done on being a fab 'cooker' - loving that

No1 hope you're feeling better

cyteen loving fucksticks but very re sex, drugs and rock n' roll

sazz bloody cold up here too BUT we were kept warm with all the sodding bed hopping going on last night Dylan up at about 10pm, DD1 up and down like yo yo with bad dreams through night and DD2 up for usual 4am shouting fest

woke up late for first school run of term so DH had to literally grab and run with her up the road.

CC shall have a look later when I have a sec - hope he enjoys his first day

oh oh and have managed to have shower and get dressed & have breakfast - huge improvement on yesterday already!!!

TwilightSurfer · 06/01/2009 13:05

buckets, i just dump the blackeyed peas from the can into a pot and warm them. they tasted fine but i'm a bit of a mixer so each bite was a mix of mashed potato & pea. that could have masked a foul taste if there was one.

pf, i use old el paso seasoning and taco shells...that's the key. my chicken meat has onions and seasoning in it. the stuff on the tacos includes: shredded cheese, black olives, lettuce and tomatoes. i just doesn't get any easier.

reese did get to sleep last night but it was late. then she was up to eat as usual at 4am. she still hasn't had a quality poo. will work on the moving foods today so we can get her unstuck.

PetitFilou1 · 06/01/2009 13:41

dizzy Yes I've bought one from babes with babies - they didn't have the one I liked in stock but sent me long email suggesting alternatives so I chose one of those! But thanks for your suggestions......when I am no longer bfing I will be coming to you for my new wardrobe - hope you can deal with woman with very small boobs and curvy bum!

TS Your dd eats black olives and lettuce! I'm impressed. I don't think you can get chicken meat with seasoning here (although correct me if I'm wrong people) atm ds1 is living on a diet of swedish meatballs, salmon, burgers (from local farm shop made from their cows). He won't eat anything mixed together or in a sauce. dd however seems to appreciate a white sauce just not a red one (ie one with tomatoes in!)

AnnVan · 06/01/2009 13:50

Sazzles - I have already ordered a bag, although it's a pity I didn't think to call in the FISG ladies. But I like the bag I'm getting anyway.

It's sooo good to know there's others where I am at the mo. Ie: with the non-sleeping babies. I just don't understand it - he used to be a really good sleeper, and I don't understand why suddenly he insists on being held all the time to sleep. ANd I JUST CAN'T DO IT. Can't co-sleep either. What do I do? And we haven't even tackled moving him to his own room, and he's getting waaaay to big for his basket.

Sorry that turned into a self pitying ramble.
Cyteen very at rail people for you. Actually very at them full stop seeing as DP has been hit by the highest fare rise in the country. Don't get me started grrrrr.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/01/2009 13:54

Is there another growth spurt around 19 weeks?

pertelote · 06/01/2009 14:11

Phew, caught up! Congratulations CC on the little chap's first day! Sounds like he'll love it

No1 sorry you're suffering... hope the chiro can sort it out for you. To painful to eat = unacceptable!

Pleased to report that our boiler is now working nicely after a little care and attention from the nice Gasman. House could almost be described as warm...

And big news from our cardio appt yesterday, DD is ready to go on the waiting list for surgery, and we should get a date within eight weeks. It is beginning to hit home just what this means - had a bit of a meltdown last night

Finally! (Just to make this post extra-long) about the london meet-up: I think we more or less settled on tues 27th at the southbank - suggestions were giraffe or canteen, but there's also ping pong, strada, wagamama, eat... cast your votes! I think those who've expressed an interest so far are Miamla, Annvan, ALBS, No1, Sazzles, Sambo and Alieight - apologies if I've missed anyone, please shout now...

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/01/2009 14:17

pertelote glad your boiler is working, must have been freezing, I am still cold with heating on full.

Been to chiropractor, says only ever seen my problem once. Something to do with One of my Ribs and a nerve. Have been crying like a big girl this morning.
Going back again on friday.
Luckily my wonderful sister has taken dd out, and ds is fast asleep.

sorry to appear ignorant if you have already explained, but what surgery is she having??

pertelote · 06/01/2009 14:23

That's ok, I think I went on about it a bit when we first found out, but don't expect everyone to remember! She is having heart surgery at Gt Ormond St to repair a hole and enlarge a valve.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/01/2009 14:29

Ahhh you must be going through such mixed emotions right now, for what she has to go through, but also happy she has been given the go ahead.
It must be really hard/worrying for you. I dont want to appear patronising or pretend to say I understand or know what your going through. However I do feel for you. Ifyknwim Not sure if that made sense.

hugs and thoughts anyway
x

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 06/01/2009 14:41

PF if one's fussy child eats something one makes, one is instantly awarded status of Feckin Culinary Genius. My DD won't touch anything with a red sauce as mummy clearly has hidden stuff in it. We are eating LOTS of frozen pies at the moment because she likes both white gunk and gravy. Really should get orf me arse and make one myself.

No1, hope your back magically sorts itsewlf out overnight. Must be really annoying actually, watching your DH to do everything differently to how you would do it.

PF, just keep chanting 'it's a good thing, it's a good thing'

pertelote · 06/01/2009 14:42

Thanks. That's it exactly - a mixture of relieved/sad/frightened. I keep telling myself she will hardly know what's happening - she certainly won't remember it in the future - but it still seems like an awfully big thing to do to such a little girl...

Sibh · 06/01/2009 14:55

Pertolete - It must be so upsetting. It's great though that DD is going to such a fab hospital. Can they put you in touch with a family that has had the same thing done, or maybe the British Heart Foundation could.

No1 - ouch and ouch again. You poor thing.

CC - DS's enthusiasm is fab. You should remind him of it when he is 13. I draw comedy faces on DS's school bananas which he finds unreasonably funny. Apparently I can't draw very well 'but do good trying.'

VG- the CM route sounds good. DS had some time in nursery from 6 months, and I didn't go for a CM because of that fear of him loving her too much. But, when we had to switch nurseries at 18 months the new place just didn't suit him at all and I think a CM would have suited him better from the start (grammar a bit tangled there).

It might be good to try to figure out what the CM's life plans might be in the next few years though if you are thinking of 'going again' to use the vile phrase they have around these parts.

We had a frozen baby here too but as DH was in England I used her as a hot water bottle replacement to great effect.

She managed to cut her head with her fingernails and it was bleeding when she woke at midnight . I had cut them yesterday and must have left a sharp edge. She went back to sleep with DD1's pink socks up to her elbows. V. Audrey Hepburn ...

Disastrous sleeping continues here too.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/01/2009 14:57

It does seem like a big thing. You do right to tell yourself she won't remember if that helps.

buckets lol at knowing there are things hidden in the sauce.

Also lol at watching dh do things differently. He had to take dd to docs this am before he went to work. I was rambling on saying, you park here, you go this door/window etc... you hold her on your knee like this, so doc can look in her ear.
I spoke to him like he was a kid.
My sis says dont panic he can cope.

He was really pissed annoyed when he got back as he had sat and waited for over an hour, and nothing wrong at all.
No ear infection. Also said her cough could last 7/8 weeks. (obviously glad she hasnt got ear infection.)

I hope my back gets sorted soon or I wont be able to come to Bristol

Did you get the decorating sorted, did you compromise on the colour??

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/01/2009 15:03

sibh x post
Do you know if they have any more 'set' growth spurts other than the 4 month one, or how long it lasts.
Ds seems to be feeding every 2 hours again day and night.
I dont mind, but obviously I am tired.
Was sat feeding him last night, and pain was so bad in back I couldnt get up, couldnt shout dh to help me as he was trying to settle dd. I ended up sat in chair with ds asleep on my lap for 2 hours in night stuck there as they had both fallen asleep.
Also very difficult to hold his head to feed him even propped up on cushions.
Dh has suggested few ff feeds, so I can get my back better as I am also struggling to express.

TwilightSurfer · 06/01/2009 15:08

PF I'm sorry. I think my post was a bit confusing. I use plain ground white meat chicken. After I've cooked it with diced onions I add the taco seasoning. Normal tacos are made with ground beef but I like them with chicken too. Plus it's healthier. My dd1 LOVES black olives, green olives too. She gets that from me. However she does not like lettuce so it gets left off all her dishes. What is it about lettuce?

As for the sauce thing, mine is a little like Buckets. She'll turn her nose up! BUT when I tell her that her friend so-and-so eats it and loves it then she'll eat it. Just using peer pressure in a way that benefits us all.

Sibh · 06/01/2009 15:11

I know DD1 did this too after sleeping v. well up to four months, but I can't remember how long it went on for.

That sounds like an awful night, and if some formula gives you a break too then do consider it and take DH's help while it's on offer. You need to take care of yourself as well as the children. You are doing a fab job, but with all the illnesses they've had in the last few weeks, you haven't had a lot of time to mind yourself.

poppysocks · 06/01/2009 15:36

pertelote - I can only imagine the mixture of emotions you must be feeling at the mo. However GOSH is wonderful. I spent much of my childhood visiting my brother there and going on sponsored walks, swims, silences etc. for them. The care my brother (and by proxy, my parents) received was amazing.

No1 - Poor you! Hope the painkillers kick in soon and help to dull the frustrations of watching DH do everything wrong as well.

CC - Aah at your DS1! Hope he's had a lovely day.

cyteen - Serious grrr at the trains. 'Fucksticks' though I like!

Sazzles - With you on the Post Office frustrations. I think I would have killed the woman behind the counter is she'd rejected DD2's passport photo (similar signature/photo issues ) after I'd queued with 2 x DDs for 45 mins as well as 45 mins just to request the form in the first place .

AnnVan · 06/01/2009 15:58

Hi pertelote good to see you. I remember about your DD's heart probs It must be sooo hard, but at least you can take comfort from the fact that they can mend these problems now, which they couldn't do 20 years ago. i know that won't make it much easier for you having to watch her go through it though (hope that doesn't sound insensitive?)
About meetup - I don't mind where so much, altough can I maybe say not Wagamama, the food is good, but they're always so cold. Would prefer somewhere warmer.
I've been blowing my nose so much I'm having nosebleeds now.
Wander what it is about sauce - DP's little half-sis won't touch anything with sauce on it, and neither will my niece.

poppysocks · 06/01/2009 16:00

TS - Sounds likeour DD1s are on the same food wavelength. Olives - yes! Lettuce - Nooooo!

VG - Can I stand up for nurseries? We chose a nursery when I returned to work after DD1 (she was nearly 8 months). The main consideration was that without my Mum (or similar) we would be scuppered if CM was ill and needed the added flexibility that nursery could offer if/when I needed to go away with work. I also like the structure of nursery as it's a contrast to home. However, this is all based on the fact that I worked mornings so there was a good balance in each day.

I will probably change my hours to 2.5 full days but DD2 will follow DD1 to nursery. DD2 will be older when she starts, but more than anything we know the staff, they are absolutely lovely and really care and turnover is low. I think really it comes down to the who rather than what they are.

Sibh · 06/01/2009 16:22

I'd agree with that Poppy. The first nursery DS was at would have been fine in the long term I think. The whole way the second one ran in practice just wasn't so great. Visits and recommendations are probably the best way forward with either CMs or nurseries.

sambo303 · 06/01/2009 17:12

did not mean to diss nurseries btw, it's just that I went to 2 and was sad I cannot look after ds myself. No doubt will feel sad when I see CMs too, but deciding on a CM is 2 or more months away and in the meantime I can dream of winning the lotto

pertelote must be frightening and exciting, cannot imagine how you must feel, but have heard nothing but great things about great ormonds

miamla did you get email?

re London meetup, 27th fine for me. We may be some time so I think comfort/warmth would be deciding factor on where to meet. I suggested Giraffe as they are baby/bf friendly but I've not been in that branch myself so cannot comment on warmth/comfort.
