Busy here as back at work. B made a huge fuss this morning at nursery - even more than yesterday. I always tend to make a quick exit but I really had to dash today because I was crying Rang nursery when I got to work to find she was perfectly happy! Little humbug!

SOL - good to see you back - how is your mum?

Right - it's 12th Night now so we need a new thread title. Suggestions please!

Dooby - apply for housing in my area, tell them you have a very close friend that needs you to live nearby, fuck knows I could do with it!

Feeling dreadful here. No less tired than I have been and on my 3rd week off work. I'm going to Papworth on Thursday and I'm feeling more like my only option will be to start the meds , get my children to sleep and behave perfectly all of the time , or finally get the bureaucrats to recognise that I do have a disability which has a serious impact on the lives of me and my children so that I can get some extra help (and pigs might fly).

It's really getting me down now.

Oh, and just in case, because I'm stressed, upset and generally fucked off - Nicky, please fuck off now and let me go back to turning to my friends at a time when I really need them.

Am bloody crying now.

Hi all

Nice to see Pesha and SOL back since I last logged on.

There's always someone on here for you CMHAYP!

My mam is staying this week as her decree nisi comes thorough and dh is in Dublin for work.

George has got chickenpox. Had 2 spots yesterday when I picked him up from nursery. Stayed home with my mam today and has now got 9 or 10. He seems fine still eating well and in good spirits. Hope he stays that way - we're going to Rome on Saturday (without G) for 3 days of pre-baby romance and the ILs are looking after him. I know I won't want to leave him if he's poorly.

dreadful timing Leaky - IME chicken pox always does that!

NL - did you just hun me

Last time I took the meds was in 2001. I'd take them on Friday am, go to work, come home and be awake all night, take more Saturday am and fin ally crash saturday pm. They keep your mind awake but don't allow the body to rest. I've been researching and seems nothing has moved on when it comes to Narcolepsy meds. The drugs I'd be given are more than likely the same ones. And without a solid routine (which is nigh on impossible with 2 children) they are likley to mess me up as they did before. I struggled on for 3 months last time and was on the maximum dose then, the body seems to grow accustomed to them fairly quickly. It would also be likely to mean the suspension of my driving licence for the time it takes for me to get used to them. This means being signed off work for longer, no nursery for J, and being stuck in the house day in, day out (we have no public transport links unless I walk into the village, and I can't risk going out with J when I might fall asleep unannounced). It also means struggling to cope with him at home when I might drop off. Complete blardy nightmare whichever way you look at it . And I hate myself for it, but I'm getting annoyed with J because of it. If he was sleeping properly I'd be managing still, and while I know he can't help it, I can't help feeling it IYSWIM.

The side effects list looks like fun -

The stimulants most commonly prescribed for narcolepsy are modafinil and dexamphetamine. These medicines work by stimulating the central nervous system. They may be used if you have narcolepsy because they can help to keep you awake during the day.

Although they are usually effective, stimulants can cause side effects such as:

  • nervousness,
  • irregular heart beats (palpitations)
  • headache,
  • dizziness,
  • dry mouth,
  • nausea,
  • diarrhoea, and
  • constipation.

Now I've got the problem of how to get there on Thursday. It's a 45 minute drive, at my most sleepy time of the day. Have sorted childcare for the boys but have no idea how to fix that one.

Report
Northernlurker · 06/01/2009 21:56

What about a taxi? I can send you ÂŁ10 towards it tomorrow - not much but a start?

Report
Northernlurker · 06/01/2009 21:57

I can see why you don't want to go down the meds route. Would a low dose - to keep you awake in the day plus relaxation or even hypnosis techniques to help you sleep?

Report
CallMeHunAtYourPeril · 06/01/2009 22:05

that's the problem NL - I sleep too much
sleeping isn't the problem, it's opportunity to sleep, or taking away the need for it.

and that's very sweet of you, but it'd be somewhere around ÂŁ80 (at least) round trip so impossible! I qualify for patient transport but they are a bit hit and miss, I'd have to go whenever they were going, which would in turn fuck up childcare [sigh]. Will be calling them in the morning though. I had intended to drive but have been asleep at that time every day for the past few days.

Report
Doobydoo · 06/01/2009 22:10

It is sodding ridiculous that they can't organise an appt and transport that suits you.If transport hit and miss they should pay for a cab

Report
Northernlurker · 06/01/2009 22:10

I am so daft - I forgot you'd need to get back

Patient transport is my bread and butter ( or arguing with them is) but yes you will have to go when they're ready and that can be hours beforehand can't it?

You need more support don't you? Can J's dad do more (without getting him haircuts!)

Dooby - askingn ambulance transport to pay for a cab is like asking Pete Doherty not to drink the beer you've left next to him. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Planning the journeys is a very difficult task I'll concede - but what a patient has to go through to get their free ride is scarcely creditable - hours (literally) going round villages etc and the same on your way home. That's assuming tehy turn up on time to take you home. Patients finishing dialysis wait the same amount of time as everyone else - sometimes the driver is there waiting, sometimes they're 30 minutes late and sometimes (not too often) they don't turn up at all. If there's a cab to be called it's usually me and my budget doing it!
