Oh dear Myjob. I'm far from the best person to advise you but I just wanted to give you a big hug

I think your big voice is probably right and it's the injections, they can be unsettled by it for a few days can't they. It would be very coincidental that she suddenly starts feeling the effects of her lack of weight gain just as you find out her weight, wouldn't it? Call your HV first thing tomorrow, don't wait for her to contact you, so she can give you a proper action plan and hopefully some peace of mind xx

Oh and try to sneak a little glass of wine into your routine tonight, it sounds like you need it!

Honeymoon - we did have locations on my spreadsheet for ante-natal!

Oops - just seen that this didn't post - wrote it hours ago!

must be the jabs, myjob. Or maybe she has some trapped wind?
When I had thrush (candida) at first it wasnt obvious - no obvious signs on me or on ds, but then started feeling pain deep in breast at times... then it all got worse, but breastfeeding counselor said that babies can have thrush and not have signs and it can cause them to be very unsettled... one possibility? probably not for you, though. I'm on my second round of treatment for it. ugh. I'm hoping they will let me continue on for the two weeks with the treatment this time. Last time they said no and wouldnt give me more... even though their leaflet and la leche materials say that mom and baby need to be treated for a week or two AFTER signs have gone to be sure it's all clear or it can return and be passed back and forth!

I would also suggest, if it doesn't improve in a few days or however long jabs take to get better (anyone know??) to see a cranial osteopath. I can't recommend it highly enough. DS was having some major digestive issues and not pooing at all. She had her hands on him for a few minutes both times we've gone and he filled his nappy with absolutely NO straining (he was straining like crazy before). Also, b/c of ventouse, he was really rigid and would arch a lot and he's stopped that (for the most part... need one more visit, I think). And b/c of ventouse, he was more stiff on one side of his neck - always slept facing same way, when you picked him up he'd lean a bit... I know it sounds odd... people used to comment to me about it, but I just thought it was normal . When she fixed it, it was amazing. I can see how weird it was now!
He's also loads more settled in general. I dont know what she did, but she did it well. So if it persists, its totally worth a visit. I'm loving that there's a snow day today because I can use the money I would have used on childcare on another visit to the CO!

star6 · 02/02/2009 19:58

csws - about calpol... last time Q was ill with cold and very snotty nose, cough, sneezing, very fussy, unsettled..etc. I gave in and gave one dose of calpol. GP totally told me off for it. I LOVE that my GP (new one!) doesn't like to give meds unless absolutely necessary. I never take them myself unless absolutely necessary - but I did think this was one of those times, and isn't it up to the parent? He has been very yucky today - gooey eye, snotty nose, coughs... but only some fussy periods, has been ok most of the day bless him - so I called the 24 hour dr phone line thing at 6pm to ask permission to give calpol . They told me it was OK. I just want him to be able to rest without pain for a little while...
It's so hard to figure out what is up to you as a parent and what is not!

loulou33 · 02/02/2009 20:32

hi all, no snow here but its freezing cold and windy.

Joe has been asleep for 3 hours now and i've tried having a sleep and can't - how annoying is that?? Done all the housework and daytime telly very boring. Ds1 due back form nursery and will go to bed for a couple of hours so i will have to find something to do - i guess Joe will be awake soon.....
CSWS - he usually has about 12 hours at night and i'm up twice with him at the moment for about 1/2 to 3/4 hour each time. Sometimes he sleeps for 3 hours in the day, sometimes only 2 little 1/2 hour naps if i'm lucky in the car etc so its a bit hit and miss in the day...got to go Joe awake and starving i guess

tried to post the above HOURS ago but couldn't get on to website til now (about 6 hours later!!)

loulou33 · 02/02/2009 20:42

sorry posted that before read all today's posts as couldn't get page loaded at all.

Myjob - i'm guessing its her jabs too and would recommend a dose of calpol. I woudl also suspect she's got herself out of her routine due to jabs and has now been 'overtired' for the last few days. Hopefully, if she gets some decent sleep, things will imprive. When Joe was ill, he was all out of sorts sleep wise for days afterwards and then out of sheer exhaustion, he got a decent sleep and was alright again. I can't believe your hv hasn't called you today - have you tried ringing her to discuss? Hope you both get soem rest tonight and she's back to her usual self tomorrow xxx

star - why did your gp tell you off for giving one dose of calpol. I know its 'bad' to give them it to them too often due to asthma risk but surely one dose is not a porblem when they have a cold??? You know him best and can tell better than anyone if he's in pain....Hooray that the oseopath has worked such wonders for Q

star6 · 02/02/2009 20:47

wow your babies sleep a lot.
Q sleeps from about 7pm/8pm until 10.30/11pm feed. 11.30-3 (sometimes waking at 1 and 2) at 3 it usually takes about 15-20 min to soothe him back to sleep. then he's down and usually up for the day by 5am. He'll take a morning nap a little less than an hour. When with me, he'll nap for 1.5-2 hrs mid day, then 45 min before 5pm. When I'm at work he usually gets in one or two 40 min naps with the ocassional "long" one... but this never carries over and makes him sleep more at night! I want DS to sleep 11 hours at night!
Thanks loulou. I think it should be my choice, too. Sometimes it feels like everyone is just telling you what to do all the time once you become a mom.

Marthasmama · 02/02/2009 21:18

myjob - you poor thing. I'm sure it must be her jabs and overtiredness. They get into such a state when they're overtired. Martha often won't sleep in the day and by the evening she screams so much the neighbours must think we're murdering her! How loudly are you shushing? I read that you have to shush as loud as they are crying. When she gets really bad, we take it in turns to shush her (I get dizzy if I do it for too long!) and when she's calmed down, I let her suck on a clean finger then quickly swap it for boob. That seems to work, most of the time. But once they are overtired it is really, really difficult to settle them. Plus they also tend to wake up more! Babies are such strange little creatures!

jenwa · 02/02/2009 21:37

csws were you asking me re sleep? not sure if you really want to know but here goes.....

DD1 sleeps 7pm-7am/7:30
DD2 sleeps 7pm-6/7/8 am (although does have afew awake moments in night where have to come down the loft stairs and down the corridor and put dummy in! Has been known to cry on/off for hour and me go up and down!

I just have fairly good sleepers but am moody if they dont so they prob just do it to keep mummy smiley!!

Will read rest of posts inmo as both dd's had injections today so tonight will not be a good one and DD1 is crying so better go!

jenwa · 02/02/2009 21:44

ok back.

Also DD2 sleeps after her first bottle in morn usually for another 3 hrs and then has a sleep in afternoon before next bottle then is generally awake until night bottle.

Right will read more posts now.

jenwa · 02/02/2009 21:56

csws Ok sorry just read and you asked everyone sorry. I answered anyway

myjob so sorry, that it not at all like Naomi. Could it be jabs the like suggested or has she been out of ehr routine and just needs to settle back into one?

Both mine had jabs today, DD1 first and the first one she never noticed but the second well, she watched it and my word she cried and was so upset then DD2 had to have hers so DD1 was still crying but holding the tears back and dd2 started screaming so walked out drs with 2 children in tears!
DD2 was fine until we went to BIL for nephews 2nd b'day and she went to sleep then woke up screaming, her legs were bright red and puffy so calpol and a cool bath given and came home and then DD1 got upset again although mainly tiredness! She just was crying but when I went up she appeared to have been dreaming, she gets like this when over tired.
I think there may be a disturbed night here tonight !

I do put dd2 in sleeping bag in day as she sleeps better and nice and snug. Never swaddled her as she hated it, she was really mad in my tummy though and would jump around with legs and arms flying all over so when I tried to swaddle her she looked like she was trying to fight her way out of a straight jacket! I thought she had some involuntery muscle spasm disorder the way she flings erself about at times!

Going to get dd2 weighed again tomorrow as was worried she was not gaining much last time. She does have these explosive nappies so wondered if it was the formula and its not staying in her system. Will see how she goes tomorrow and if she has gained much in a week.

ronshar · 02/02/2009 22:15

I have been trying to think how much DS sleeps per day. It might make me cry as it doesnt feel like anywhere near enough.
Settles for the night 7-7.30.
Wakes between 10-12. Feeds 15 mins
Wakes between 2-4. Often feeds for 15 mins.
Wakes around 6am. Feed for 20mins.
Awake until 11ish. Will feed for about an hour with a big poo in between
Sleeps for about 2 hours
Feed 1pm
Feed 4pm.
Feed 6-7ish
Awake until bed time.
See I knew it was bad. DS will sleep in the pram or car so if he is grunpy I just get my self out the house!

Myjob. William has become very unsettled and I have to confess to everyone that I have started to give him Baby rice/porridge stuff. He LOVES it. He is still feeding as much as before but is so much happier in himself.
I knew that I would have to stop BF if I didnt do something.
Do whatever you feel is best for you and your baby. The weight charts are not the holy grail. If you think Naomi is good then trust yourself.

Welcome to the new ladies. Hope you get lots of support here.
I am in Sussex if that is near anyone then I'm always up for tea and cakes. I never mind travelling for good cake either.

Honeymoonmummy · 02/02/2009 22:34

Ladies, how soon do you bath LO's after a feed? We are waiting an hour and I'm wondering if that's outdated advice (as per midwife in hospital)

ronshar · 02/02/2009 22:39

I usually bath before the last feeding marathon of the day.
I'm not sure about the hour thing I know it is not true for older people. The whole swimming after lunch advice turns out to be nonsense. What were the midwives rational for waiting?

ronshar · 02/02/2009 22:40

Oopps leaking from my left breast must go and feed the boy.
Night night.

star6 · 03/02/2009 06:47

ohhhhh DS slept 7pm to 11.50 then fed and 12.05 - 5.30! Please tell me that wasnt just b/c of calpol. I gave 2ml for his nasty cold at 6.30pm... BEST NIGHT EVER.
now I just need to stop waking to check on him every hour!!
ronshar - sussex is near surrey right? my uk geography knowledge is dire....

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/02/2009 08:14

No reason that calpol should make them sleepy that I'm aware of. It just helps remove pains that would otherwise keep them awake.

honeymoon - maybe 20 mins between feed and bath here. If I waited an hour he'd be too hungry or tired to bathe.

OP posts:
jenwa · 03/02/2009 08:21

star dd2 had calpol and slept right though til I woke her at 7 for feed! I thought it was calpol at first but it prob just settled her and she slept well.

I bath before bedtime bottle. You can part feed on one side then bath then finish feed after bath on other side for them to go to sleep. Thats has been recommended in a certain book and we did it with DD1 and it worked well.

star6 · 03/02/2009 09:37

Thanks all for reassurance re calpol. Would hate to think I drugged my baby to sleep
I hope he does it again!! When I read how much yours all slept at night I thought surely there must be something wrong with him!! jenwa not sure how you did that... write a book and sell your secrets!!
OH, tried the coconut cake - YUMMMMMMMMM
Thank you, aubergenie!
CSWS - biggest hurdle is butter. Can't locate dairy free butter!
