Is he screaming because he is hungry? If he is and he wont take any milk from you whst about expressing some and put in in a bottle? for you.

star6 · 14/12/2008 19:13

I have some expressed for tomorrow's feeds with DH (he's home with him tomorrow while I work)... but don't want to waste that now... DH is carrying him walking back and forth right now and he's silent. he was silent and content when I did that too... so maybe he's not hungry. But he's ALWAYS hungry! And we can't get into the habit of pacing the floors with him!

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 14/12/2008 19:16

Waht about trying to express some more? Is that possible? If he was hungry pacing wouldnt settle him.

star6 · 14/12/2008 19:34

ok... so maybe he's not hungry. This has never happened before. he's 10 weeks. normal? I have always been able to put my breast in his mouth, he always accepts and he's quiet.

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 14/12/2008 19:42

I have no idea, sorry. DD was bottle fed an ds is only 6weeks. Hopefully someone can help soon. Have you put a post in breast/bottle feeding section? You will get lots of fab hel there.

star6 · 14/12/2008 20:08

thanks knickers... done that just now and lots of replies

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/12/2008 07:47

Oh star. Sadly you may be right about him finding it easier from the bottle now, so not making the effort with you. Had a quick glance at your thread last night, and could see cup feeding as being the only practical solution. Are you going to go with this?

Ds' sleep definitely getting better. He slept most of the way back from friends in SW London last night, and then stayed asleep in his car seat whilst we made and ate dinner - virtually unheard of! He then didn't go to sleep until about 9:45pm as a result, but he didn't wake for a feed then until about 2:45 . And then he slept for 3 hours after that - he's never gone more than 2 hours after a night feed before! He went back to sleep at 7, and is still in bed with dh whilst I've come down and had breakfast with dd. He's been lying on his tummy in between us in bed, but not swaddled the last couple of nights - just with a little blanket over him.

OP posts:
Ekka · 15/12/2008 12:36

Star - it may be he finds the bottle easier, but maybe its that he's spacing out his feeds? I remember with dd that she would feed every 1-2hrs up to about 12weeks, then once I tried to feed her & she went mad - screaming, refusing the breast etc... I was really worried, but it was the start of her spacing out her feeds more. Mind you, she was never really fed from a bottle. Ds if hes not hungry just won't latch on! I really hope that things improve for you...

We're all getting colds here - both dd and ds have horrible hacking coughs. And dd is teething and has become so whingey - every 5 mins she's whining/crying about something or nothing. Its driving me mad. But her oma & opa (dh's parents) will be coming on thursday to stay for xmas so I'll soon have some back-up

Glad to hear about ds's sleep csws - it makes so much difference. Lets hope that your ds improves soon knickers, you must be shattered.

Lozza70 · 15/12/2008 16:46

Hi all and Merry Xmas! I have not been on MN for a wee while but glad I saw the new thread. All going ok here with Sander. He is 12 weeks today and is a little bruiser, was 14 9 last Monday. I have put some new photos on my profile.

We are off to Spain on Friday to spend Xmas and I'm getting myself merrily wound up about getting through the flight. I know we need to try and feed him on take off and landing but I'm more worried about disturbing other passengers if he does not like flying and is a bit noisy. Any tips from the more experienced than me?

Apart from that all okay here, Sander has just managed to drop out of his 2-3 hour feeding cycle at night in the last week and we are managing to feed him at 11 and then not getting up until 4am and 7.30/8ish. At least DH does not have to get up in the night to help me particularily as he has to get up for work.

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 15/12/2008 19:16

Sorry Lozza, no tips as onyl ever flown once.

Ds has been asleep in his cot, in dd's room for well over an hour now. Has never slept this long in his moses basket, so I am thinking of moving his cot into our room.

Actually, what it be such a bad thing to keep him in dd's room?

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 15/12/2008 19:17

Star, hope things have improved today for you.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/12/2008 20:09

Must be the night for it knickers - ds has been asleep on my bed (on tummy) since 7pm. I've put dd to bed, cleaned living room floor, tidied up some stuff, and am now going to write some thank you cards - hurrah!

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 15/12/2008 20:13

Another one who will only sleep on their tummy eh. I've had a few raised eyebrows bout that but hv been supportive

star6 · 15/12/2008 20:34

knickers My ds sleeps on his tummy When hv came here, we swiftly picked him up so she wouldn't see as we were warned severely not to do so...
Q is MUCH better tonight. Not sure what that was last night but he woke at 12.30 and fed ferociously!! Then again at 4.30, 5.45 and 6.45am. When I got home from work he latched right on (at 3.45pm) and fed about every hour. My nipples are still so sore but he could have bitten it off and I wouldn't have minded!!! I just wanted him to accept the breast!
Maybe he just wasn't hungry? But he did take the bottle that time...
I still have thrush... gp would not take bf counsellor's advice to treat me for 2 weeks after initial dose, so it's been back a while... they keep telling me to use cream. It doesn't work... need the tablet. So I thought he could have thrush, but none is apparent on his mouth.
SO happy for you csws about sleeping! Finally!!

SmudgeyDoodle · 15/12/2008 22:21

Yay Yay Yay for the sleep CSWS. Hope the more settled D is here to stay for a while. You'll have a lot of sleep to catch up on. We had a rough night so I'm hoping things will be better tonight. DS is coughing and spluttering and DD is snotty so one or other of them seemed to be needing attention. Had a real wobble today over something daft and put it down to hormones and over tiredness. Just booked our 8 week check ups for between christmas and new year. I've had to book one appointment for me, one for DD and then another one for her jabs. So we are at the doctors 3 days in a row - how daft is that? Apparantly they don't do them all together anymore because people were having to wait too long!!
Star glad that DS feeding again but that your nipples are still sore. That sounds rubbish about your doctor. Are you happy with them apart from over the thrush issue? I thinke I might be tempted to switch doctors. Ekka we flew longhaul with Ds when he was 4 months and it was fine. i was worried about the screaming etc but I just fed him on take off and landing and he slept a lot of the way. Only tip I can think of is to take loads of nappies. I don't know if it was just DS but he pooed about 8 times during the 9 hour flight! Have a lovely time.

Aubergenie · 15/12/2008 22:43

Hello ladies. Hurrah for a lovely new thread. Hurrah for some sleep CSWS and Hurrah that DS is feeding from the breast again Star. What a relief.

I was shocked to read about your dad going to that funeral honeymoon. Have you sorted out a cot yet? I finally bit the bullet and bought an Amby nest on Ebay. I figured I could always sell it on if we don't get on with it, as they seem to have a good resale value. We're trying it for the first time today. DS has a good nap in it this afternoon and went to sleep in it happily this evening. We were even able to eat our dinner together. Very unusual for us. He's up again now, having a bottle from DP but I'm going to try him in it again later. Has your DS given up in his CSWS or is he still using it?

I keep waking up in the night cold, damp and covered in milk, even with breast pads on (in?). Does anyone else have this problem? I'm wondering whether I should get some better breast pads. Has anyone got any recommendations?

Hope everyone sleeps well tonight.

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 15/12/2008 22:50

Aubergenie, whats an amby nest?

I leak loads through the day and night. I double pads up and if I am gonig out anywhere I sometimes triple up!!

Star, glad ds is feeding again. I have over half a tube of lanashol (sp) that I no longer need if you want it. I am more than happy to send it to you. Free of course

star6 · 16/12/2008 04:57

Thanks so much for the offer, knickers - true spirit of christmas and MN! But I also have loads of Lansinoh left. I'm actually using the silverettes mini cups at the moment - they are the best things and seem to work the best but still sore when he feeds. Cracks are really healing with them when they are given time without sucking and the cups keep my nipples away from breast pad or bra (so they don't stick) and aren't as bulky as breast shells.
If it weren't for the thrush I think all would be well.
DS latch is still a bit rubbish, but I've had several trips to bf counsellor and mw and hv...etc... over nearly 11 weeks now and it's not been sorted so I've just come to the realization that it will always hurt a bit.

star6 · 16/12/2008 05:02

smudgey sounds like a long flight with 8 nappies! I've tried to change my gp several times. It's hard to get into another surgery that is accepting new patients where I live. I do like how my gp doesn't like to prescribe medication for little ones unless absolutely necessary... that's the only thing, though.

aubergenie lol when I woke up covered in milk I got all upset that i was wasting good milk! I started wearing breast shells and sleepily got up every few hours (ds usually got me up anyway) and emptied the cups into a bottle near where I was sleeping! Now I wake up and express it all out so that ds can have enough milk while I'm at work during the day.
The reusable pads are very absorbent but ifyou have cracks, they stick like crazy to your nipples. boots pads are quite absorbent as well... A friend of mine uses a muslin cloth in her shirt between layers/over breast pads and then just takes muslin out and replaces it throughout the night... sounds like a lot of work.

Aubergenie · 16/12/2008 09:53

I've never heard of breast shells Star - Will have to look them up. Woke up drenched again last night. I wouldn't mind but it makes me really cold. LOL at tripling up the breast pads Knickers. I might have to start trying that. I hate that moment when you glance down in horror at your chest and notice a seeping damp patch spreading across it. So glamourous.

This is an Amby. It's a lovely bit of kit, but I do wonder whether we've left it too late to get DS into it. He's 10 weeks now and is used to sleeping next to me. He ended up in my bed last night as he had tummy ache, and I was too tired to try the whole settling process. I'll keep at it, and see how he gets on.

Off to do the last of my Christmas shopping today. I'm heading to Canary Wharf as it's very buggy friendly. I hate shopping so I'll be glad to get it out of the way.

morning all,
alex is in the bed with me again he's still snotty (3 weeks now!) and everytime i put him in the moses basket he wakes up and crys. grrrr, but he's started sleeping through! yeah the last 3 nights he's gone from midnight to 7am, am so pleased, dd was 9 weeks when she went through and went 11pm-5am so i'm getting an hour longer with him.

i am waking up soaked though, it's awful. and when A feeds off one side the other always leaks as well-everytime. if fact last night i directed the flow at dh and he had no idea where the drip was coming from was sat sniggering under my breath.

NewKnickersFromSantaOnMaHead · 16/12/2008 12:03

I find it annoying when the other one leaks Heather. Pmpl at directing the flow at your dh though

Aubergenie, that looks fab but really expensive! Doubt dp will let me get one of those.

No worries Star, thought I would offer

Ds is still sleeping with me. We slept on the sofa last night cos dp is full of cold. Tbh, I am not going to worry about it anymore. I am sure he will let me know when he doesnt want to sleep with me when he is 6 soon

4CALLINGBIRDSandnotout · 16/12/2008 12:58

Hi everyone
I haven't had my post natal check yet even though Tilly-Grace will be 8 weeks old on thursday The hv finally saw her yesterday and did her measurements, she is 9lb 13oz so still tiny compared to most!
Bf is still going well which is still a shock to me as the other 3 were bottle fed. She is now sleeping from 8ish when she goes upstairs in her crib till 4ish then through till 7 when i get up, last weekend we didn't surface till gone 10 though
