Whats happened to mumsnet! Its all new!

star6 · 30/01/2009 08:33

Thanks csws!
Loving the new MN
GREAT night last night! Not as good as the good sleepers, but good for us
I'm at work - figured out how to put MN on my computer and wander over to check posts when I get a chance (snack, recess..etc...)

aubergenie · 30/01/2009 08:39

Star - creamed coconut is quite widely available. If you've got an Asian food shop near you, they should have it, but I'm sure they have it in our local supermarket. It comes in a small block (about 70p).

Jenwa - I was a bit thrown by the New Look Mumsnet. I'm not good with change this early in the morning...

Talking of BLW, does anyone know if the Gill Rapley book is any good? I was thinking of ordering it from amazon.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/01/2009 08:53

I've heard that it's good if you are the sort who likes a book to read, but there's nothing in it that can't be found on Aitch's blog or on here.

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 30/01/2009 09:02

Hello ladies.

I'm going to try BLW, it seems to make sense to me. I doubt wile babies would have had puree. And the happy coincidence, DD will be 26 weeks on Maundy Thursday, just in time for a fun Easter meal with the family!

I've got a lot of catching up to do with you guys!

Honeymoon - Did Poppy enjoy swimming, even for the short amount of time she was in the water? My DD is a real water babe and DH wants to take her swimming but she still has quite bad eczema.

DD has started waking up in the night more which is great . She was, don't hit me, sleeping through but alas no more. She has started making some new noises but....still hasn't rolled. I figure she's just lazy.

Marthasmama · 30/01/2009 09:03

I meant to say I doubt wild babies.....

aubergenie · 30/01/2009 09:22

Thanks CSWS - I thought so. I've been looking at Aitch's blog and it's very comprehensive, isn't it.

BTW - I went on a very good course at my local Sure Start centre on heuristic play for babies and treasure baskets. I've started putting one together for ds. There's some info here if anyone is interested. The nice thing is that a lot of the items are things you have around the house.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/01/2009 10:25

WTF is going on??? Took me 3 mins to find this thread and that's 3 mins too long IMO!

CSWS, call me old fashioned but I prefer to follow instructions on medication

MM, I wouldnt go so far to say enjoyed, there was another baby in the pool for the first time and he was laughing and splashing, he was 4 months. Poppy was just mesmerised, watching the other babies. But she's not smiling and splashing in the bath yet either, the only reason we know she enjoys it is because in the early weeks it was the only time she stopped crying!!

We're going to docs tonight for 4 week review of Poppy's reflux, 6 weeks since she diagnosed and she's still regurgitating most of her first feed of the day I've just changed my work Bupa to cover her so I'm gonna ask for a referral to the paediatrician. Looks like it'll be renitadine, or however u spell it!!

It was our wedding anniversary yesterday (I didnt get the journal done so it'll have to be late, gave him a Clangers DVD instead!!

We're going for our first post-Poppy lunch out together, so fingers crossed!

pepperrabbit · 30/01/2009 11:27

I feel like i'm on another MN planet. Almost set up the sat nav to find the thread...

hi all, am struggling with new look mn - don't like change!!

Honeymoon - the reason they say to make gaviscon in advance is that it settles slightly if left once mixed. neither of mine dc have had any ill effects from making it up in advance. i used to do two at a time...hope you get some help form gp/paeds this week

Joe is aslo showing 'signs' of weaning but i am ignoring them at the moment. He has finally stopped waking every 2/3 hours at night but only becuase i gave hime some extra hungry formula when he woke at 11pm which broke the habit iyswim. he slept for about 10 hours after that . Last night, i fed him at 7 and he woke at 5am - wouldn't go back to bed mind but i had 7 hours bliss last night.....hope others are getting more sleep, if not sorry for rubbing it in...i am with you in spirit on the night shift if not in body...

CherryChoc · 30/01/2009 14:13

Hi all.

I quite like the new look - there is an option to customise it at the top of the page and I tried all 4 options out and picked my favourite. Just remember to click on "save changes"!

I'm hoping to take DS swimming soon. I read somewhere that they grow out of the dive reflex (ie the swimming underwater thing) by 6 months so have been trying to teach it as a learned response in the bath, he seems to like it unless DP takes him by surprise.

Those of you who have taken your DCs swimming already in public pools, did you bother with a wetsuit? Our public pools are all really cold (DP's friend works there and said it's about 28C) and I read somewhere if you are taking a young baby swimming the water needs to be over 32C or you should put them in a wetsuit so they don't get too cold.

I really need to tidy up before our tesco delivery arrives....

oh myjob - am sending you a big hugs and i'm not one for hugging usually...[loulouhugs myjob]....i can't understand why only half an ounce - has she been poorly at all...didn't she have an upset tummy and temp last week. She may well have lost some of the weight she had gained in the previous weeks. Its a shame its a friday (why do they do jabs/weight clinic on a friday ffs??) and i'm guessing your hv hasn't been in touch today??
I'm going to say what i said last time...she's happy, contented and sleeping pretty well. In a few weeks she'll be 6 months and maybe you could get away with just adding a bottle in here and there once she starts weaning to avoind giving up bf altogether....go to go ds1 grying over something

take care
xxxxx

loulou33 · 30/01/2009 18:43

oops missed a bit out, i meant to say...'m going to say what i said last time...she's happy, contented and sleeping pretty well and that's a pretty good sign that she's 'thriving'.

KSal · 30/01/2009 19:23

Hang in there myjob... without the weigh in you were comfortable that she was happy and your instinct counts for a hell of a lot. Hopefully the HV will have some constructive advice.

have you considered bottle feeding her expressed breast milk at all? It may be an option to top her up in that way without introducing formula, which would disrupt your supply... I'm no expert though... where is CSWS?!

CherryChoc · 30/01/2009 19:23

Myjob, definitely get yourself over to the breastfeeding/bottlefeeding board for some advice and support - I have got a link for you to read as well: Increasing weight gain in breastfed babies

As LouLou said, it sounds like if she is happy and contented you are doing fine and you shouldn't worry - I know that is much easier said than done though, especially when they faff about with their silly charts.

Also just thought of one more thing - do you usually get her weighed at clinic but this time had her weighed at the GPs? Was she due a feed when she was weighed? Different scales can account for a lot of stress!
