I hope your dd is soon feeling better Honeymoon. These colds seem to be endless, don't they?

Star- Re some things you could do with your family. How about a boat trip up the Thames? You can get one of the Thames clippers that go up and down from Millbank to Greenwich/Woolwich (www.thamesclippers.com) (then check out the Royal Observatory at Greenwich). They're pushchair-friendly too. I know that because we got one the other day with the buggy and it was fine. You can sit inside in the warm or outside on the deck. There are also some more expensive ones that give you a guided tour as well.

Borough Market it great too, but I'd take a sling rather than a buggy as it gets very busy. Kew Gardens, Hampstead, Richmond, Ham House (ooh I'm on a roll now). Tate Modern/Tate Britain, British Museum are all good (and free!). A walk along the South Bank is always nice and the Royal Festival Hall is a good place to stop for refreshements and has baby chance facilities too. I'll come back if I think of anything else.

aubergenie · 01/02/2009 21:33

Is anyone finding that their LO is increasingly distracted while feeding? I've noticed in the past week or so that ds is so much more interested in the world around him that he keeps breaking off and looking around. I feel like he's not feeding as much in the day time, but that he's making up for it at night, maybe because there aren't any distractions then. It's a real pain.

Honeymoonmummy · 01/02/2009 21:47

Ha ha MM. I just had a call back from nhs direct saying nothing to worry about. I remembered someone having the same problem about aa month ago on this thread so wasn't too worried but it cant hurt to call eh?

We have spent the whole day in bed and she has eaten LOADS. Funnily enough, the reflux hasn't been too bad today

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/02/2009 22:06

It was me who asked about green poo when ds got his first cold honeymoon. With this cold it hasn't gone green, but last time it did.

Aubergenie - yes re distraction. End up giving smaller feeds when out and about, then a bigger one once we're back home in our usual chair. He also pushes and shoves my boob with his hands if I forget to wear my breastfeeding necklace to distract him with.

Star - science musuem and natural history museum are free now too. Do they live near the coast normally? If not, then perhaps you could hop on the train to Brighton for a day.

Jenwa - I might be able to do a Worcs meet up some time if I'm up for a decent stretch at my parents.

There's no excuse at all for KSal and I not to get together, since we live prob about 15 mins apart! Unless she doesn't want to meet me .

OP posts:
CherryChoc · 01/02/2009 23:27

Auberginie yes! Really annoying - I end up either switch feeding like mad or trying to space the feeds out because he concentrates more when he is hungry. Then I feel guilty because I want to be led by him.

I know what you mean about babies seeming constantly ill. DS has been chesty for weeks and weeks now and nothing seems to help - will mention it to HV on Wednesday.

Marthasmama · 02/02/2009 06:43

Aubergenie - not yet thank goodness! DD does tend to moan a lot when eating if her big bro is messing about nearby and I often have to take her away to a quiet room. I had to give up bfing DS when he 7 months as he just wouldn't face me when I tried to feed him. If we were out he would keep turning round to smile at people while milk squirted everywhere! She does try and grab bits of my boob though and sometimes tries to shove a hand in her mouth while she's eating.

We've had a terrible night because DD's nose is so blocked. She's really fed up. We have, however, been able to keep watching the snow! Yay!!!!

star6 · 02/02/2009 07:36

snow day!!!! yay!!
snow in surrey... that doesnt happen often!

star6 · 02/02/2009 07:41

Thanks for all lovely suggestions re entertaining parents

Q is not distracted at all when feeding unless dh comes in talking.... otherwise ds just falls asleep.....EVERYtime - is that recipe for disaster? should he befeeding awake?? he does feed awake from bottle with dh.

jenwa · 02/02/2009 08:18

I noticed Phoebe is more distracted too, she is sooo nosey! She will crane her neck around to try at get a glimse of the tv whilst dd1 watching it Think they follow their Daddy I had to put a pillop next to her yesterday so she could not see the tv, would have taken her upstairs but feel I cant keep leaving DD1 on her own at the moment as she is getting a little jealous so trying to feed dd2 and entertain dd1!

csws yes let me know when you are here, forgot your parents still up in this area.

star is Q is happy and fed enough then I dont think it is a prob, DD1 always would fall asleep on her bottle, dd2 just keeps on feeding and only falls asleep on the last bottle in the eve and that is if she has been awake since the last one.

Good night had here as DD2 had her bottle at 7 ish and she woke at 5am and I only had to put dummy in once and then I woke her at 7:30 this am to feed her and now she gone back to sleep! Sorry but will tiptoe away now incase I have upset anyone

KSal · 02/02/2009 08:37

I think it would be cool to meet up... maybe not in this weather though!

Definitely not going to little fishes today... emma also has a cold, so looking forward to some green poo now!

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/02/2009 08:40

Out of interest, roughly how many hours do your dc sleep in a 24 hr period?

Another TV watcher here Jenwa!

Snow here too.

Dd sick again this morning, so shouldn't really take her to school this afternoon, but she (and I!) will be gutted if she can't go. Decisions decisions...

OP posts:
KSal · 02/02/2009 08:59

11 hours at night with a dream feed, then about 2 during the day (on a good day). I should caveat that with the fact that i bottle feed, which surely makes a routine like this more acheivable - helps balance out my irrational guilt about stopping breastfeeding!! Also emma is a bit older - 20 weeks tomorrow (which just amazes me... where did 20 weeks go?!)

I have a nightmare getting her to sleep during the day and often have a little grumpster in the evening.... i do wonder how much to persist when she doesn't want to nap, but i know that the alternative is a melt down when she gets tired!

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/02/2009 09:20

Do you swaddle KSal? I don't at night now, but find it helps with naps still.

F**king Tesco are not delivering because of snow, and it was a huge shop, including stuff that I need to practice cakes this afternoon .

OP posts:
KSal · 02/02/2009 09:26

She never liked swaddling so we progressed to the grobag pretty quickly. I don't put her in it during the day becasue i figure she would get too hot with her clothes on.... but maybe it is worth a try

With her characteristic timing she is now falling asleep on the sofa next to me!

Honeymoonmummy · 02/02/2009 10:03

Poppy doesn't really sleep during the day unless I take her for a walk, which is most days, and she wakes as soon as we're back, but she sleeps thro the night. Should I be trying to get her to sleep in the day?

Lots of snow - and snot - here in Cheshire. No walk today!

Marthasmama · 02/02/2009 10:48

Martha probably sleeps about 12 hours a day all together, which is not enough and probably why she is a grumpy baby! She only sleeps during the day in her pushchair! She very tired today because she has a horrible cold, again. But she won't go to sleep of course. She looks absolutely terrible!

Ekka · 02/02/2009 11:53

Loads of snow here - we've been building snowmen this morning as dh couldn't get into work. I've got a splitting headache though, so I'm quite glad he's at home!

Don't know how much Matthew sleeps, but he will not sleep anywhere but in his bouncy chair or our arms during the day, and at night he doens't manage more than 3hrs a stretch in his cot . Never mind, I keep reminding myself that it will improve sometime (am rather resenting my loss of sleep at the moment, because dd was pretty good at sleep, so I'd kind of got used to it!).

We're all full of cold here too, so I've got two rather grumpy children. Still the snow looks lovely so dd is pleased and keeps runnign to the window to look out!

We're based in Fleet in Hampshire - I think there must be some people near us as someone was at Frimley Park for their birth????

Got to go, ds yelling for food (again!)

pepperrabbit · 02/02/2009 12:00

ekka we're in Fleet too!
DS1 is at Tavistock Infants which is closed today - but I only found out after 9am as the system for telling people seems a bit crap tbh.
We've been out building snowmen too, and DH is trying to work from home - not easy with 3 children in the house (obviously he's chosen the lounge to base himself in ).
Fancy you being so close!

Ekka · 02/02/2009 12:28

Pepper - was it you who was in labour when frimley park had that fire? Dh is supposed to be working from home, but I'm not sure how productive he's being! Think our local school will be Fleet Infants but dd is only 19mths so I'm not totally up on the whole school thing yet!

SmudgeyDoodle · 02/02/2009 12:34

we've got loads of snow too. going to venture out to play this pm. DD is just 3 months now and sleeps prob 8.30-8 at night waking every 2-3 hours. she also has about 3 45 min snoozes and sometimes an hour and a half nap if she is in someone's arms. DS still needs lots of sleep at 2 though so I wonder how much of it is inherited? I'm the one with the cold at the moment and feel fairly grotty. I was going to suggest to you Star to take parents for a pub lunch somewhere. I did start typing a message yesterday whilst DD feeding but the laptop died. Hope all babies with colds feel better soon. Don't forget to put some kind of barrier cream on poorly runny noses, espeically if going out inthe cold.

SmudgeyDoodle · 02/02/2009 12:36

Oh yes, CSWS. How organised are you doing cake practices? I just wing it and hope for the best. If you need anyone to eat some of the samples.....

Oh myjob . Do you think it's just from her jabs? The 3rd set can affect them for a week or so afterwards iirc. Though even when she was happy she was only doing 11 hours a day? It always sounded like more!

Very interesting hearing people's sleep estimates. I think that ds probably has between 11 and 13 hours each day, though the split between day and night varies quite a bit. It's enough to keep him pretty cheerful most of the time .

Honeymoon, as far as 'should' goes, if she (and you!) are happy with no daytime sleep then I wouldn't worry about it, but didn't you say that she can be quite grumpy? A nap or two during the day could really help with this if you can find a way to get her to take one.

Didn't get out to shop in the end, but just had enough ingredients to practice choc cake again (diff recipe). Will have to give some to neighbours as dh intolerant to choc, and there's a limit to how much I can eat! Will need to get out soon to get stuff for carrot cakes though.

Yay for snow I've been holding Ryan up at the window and he has been watching it mesmerised! He has seen snow before but he was only about 3 weeks old then and didn't really notice. Our kitten Bernard is being a nightmare though, he wants to go out but it is too cold so he is being mad indoors. I got angry at him earlier and threw him into a pile of washing and then felt really bad at least it was a nice soft landing for him.

Um about sleep, Ryan tends to sleep from 11pm - 11am (waking at 6ish and 9ish, sometimes 3ish) and then during the day anything up to 5 or 6 hours I think, in blocks. He is not in any kind of routine so I'd have to write down what he does over a day to check but he does seem to sleep more than other babies.

I'm feeling a bit down and rubbish about all the mess in the house so have made a plan for cleaning it etc

Honeymoonmummy · 02/02/2009 17:06

You'll have to add all the locations to your spreadsheet CSWS!

DH just come in and for the 3rd time since Poppy was born had some tea ready for him! He usually cooks tea these days, bless him!

Bathtime is getting worse. Do u all wait for an hour after feeding?
