I can have some fun trying though can't I

mulledwhinegums · 03/12/2008 21:22

Evening all, just adding this to my threads. Have almost finished my Christmas shopping - just a couple of things left to get. I've also done my food orders with M&S and Sainsbos. [smug emoticon] This will be our first Christmas together at home - we've headed to the sun for all of our other Christmases up til now, so DP better be back from Russia on time!!!!! His flight gets in late on the 22nd.

bitofasnowqueen · 03/12/2008 21:23

Glad nanny threads are helpful poppy. Poppy and puree are you still here or have you run off to chase your unsuspecting other halves?

Snowqueen - the time I would have loved a sibling was when my parents split up as then there would have been someone else in the middle!

bitofasnowqueen · 03/12/2008 21:24

Ooh, well done whinegums - I've done the christmas shopping but not the food order.

Had a quick browse through the posts, too many for me to catch up on, feeling really tired after being back to work, its also the run up to xmas so fellow teachers will know what that means, im up to my eyeballs in scripts and toilet rolls!!!

gonna lurk for a bit and then catch up on soome tv on the ipod

hollyivypoppy34 · 03/12/2008 21:26

hifloury... sympathy for you with run up to christmas (my mums alcohol intake always goes up).

I would chase dh if he wasn't out eating the food of love (aka curry and beer)

passroundflourymincepies · 03/12/2008 21:27

i havent done one bit of xmas shopping gonna be a rebel and leave it all til i get to england!

hollyivypoppy34 · 03/12/2008 21:28

good idea floury..given the amount of discount days etc they're doing , you could get some real bargains

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 03/12/2008 21:28

Whinegums - well done on the shopping front, what alovely Christmas it will be for you.

I had almost finished for the boys but then they wrote their letters and Tristan says in his as long as he gets a remote controlled racing car he doesn't mind what else he gets. At the moment he hasn't got one so will have give him some of his presents in February for his Birthday.

When Stefan was 4 we got him a bike from FC, then in the last week before Christmas he started going on and on about how he would love a workbench (he was seriously into building), we managed to get one just in time and vowed not to have to do that again.

Hi Floury - it's this time of year that I really miss teaching. I used to love Christmas with Nursery aged children - it was sooo magical.

hollyivypoppy34 · 03/12/2008 21:33

debs are austrian advent calendars as odd?

passroundflourymincepies · 03/12/2008 21:35

Hehe! HIPoppy thinking of indulging myself come friday!!!

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 03/12/2008 21:40

I don't know Poppy, we have one that was made with fabric pockets and I put sweets in each pocket, then they move Santa to each pocket in
turn.

It's been good because as little ones I could just put in the night before for the next day ensuring that one morning they didnt open all windows and eat all chocs!

passroundflourymincepies · 03/12/2008 21:41

Deb- yep it is magical i love xmas with the kids really gets me into the spirit

No strange advent calender pics here holly but the spanish nativity scenes always have to have a man having a poo!!! yep its great fun to go and see the nativty set up in the village and spot the pooing man!!!!

hollyivypoppy34 · 03/12/2008 21:42

why is that floury..have heard that elsewhere?

I've got 2 advent calendars and an advent village (yes I'm a big kid.. I haven't even started on getting teh decorations out)

passroundflourymincepies · 03/12/2008 21:44

They have something to do with being fertiliser and being good luck for a good crop the following year!!!

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 03/12/2008 21:45

Poppy, one year before children dh and I had an advent bowl of sweets, we'd been to woolies and chosen 2 each of 24 different sweets. Was I being unreasonable to be cross when my friend came to stay and helped herself!!!

hollyivypoppy34 · 03/12/2008 21:47

OMG Yes! its a bit like fact dh is not allowed to criticise my light up christmas villages or the decoration theme on "my"tree (he has to have a colour co ordinated one - christmas is not a time for minimalism)

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 03/12/2008 21:48

I like the "my" tree comment Poppy!!

hollyivypoppy34 · 03/12/2008 21:51

my tree has loads of bits I've collected over the years -his is down in kitchen in red/gold..you can tell he is an accountant by the way he decorates it

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 03/12/2008 21:59

The tree is a prickly subject here Since we moved here Nigel and Stefan have chosen a tree in the garden, chopped it down, carried it in through the snow etc..etc... Sounds fantastic doesn't it? Problem is they are really crap trees , big long branches but not many of them, I know, I know you can't have everything. But this year I was convinced that we didn't have any left so we'd have to buy a lovely bushy one but no they have found one that apparently will be OK if they chop it down and just use the top half!!

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 03/12/2008 22:04

Off to bed now, night all

hollyivypoppy34 · 03/12/2008 22:04

oh dear - can see how theory is better than reality. Am with you - nothign worse than a threadbare tree (plus I bet they're not the ones sweeping up the needles) apart from anything else there is not enough room for my tat beautiful ornaments
