Sponge hope you're feeling ok. Hormones can be quite pesky!

Essie your parenting tip made me really laugh out loud - something that is quite hard to do (miserable old cow that I am)

Neenz - my house is in need of a clean too - likewise re FB and MN. Am off to do a major spring clean in the lounge while DH is out with S.

There is an acknowledged link between eating and speaking - as josey says because of the movement of the mouth when eating and the connection with the movement when speaking. My HV also mentioned the window of opportunity, but not the talk about changing the guidelines. That's all I know!

Sorry Essie, but ROFL at poo in bumbo. Yay on the rolling.

I like the idea of a meet up. In a fortnight I'll be back at work.

Wimbledon premature baby consultants have told a friend of mine that the guidelines may be changing again soon. Not sure if it's to do with speech or not...

Funny moment this morning: For the first feed of the day I stay in bed and Shane hands me Ryder (lazy mummy emoticon). Whilst feeding I was reading the BLW book. After the feed Ryder promptly puked on the BLW book and then threw it on the floor.

Less worried about the speech and weaning connection here, ATM Ryder is very clearly making himself understood right now - he may not be using actual words, but he is clearly communicating that I should get off Mumsnet and go play with him. So I will oblige.

NoRoomAtThePenguin · 05/12/2008 18:52

Ryder just fell out of his bumbo. He's ok, Thank God. (Not being blasphemous, I am genuinely thanking God right now).

spongebrainbigpants · 05/12/2008 19:27

Ohmigod, PP, how?! I didn't thank that was possible .

Did he throw himself back? Alex tries to do this but I didn't think he'd actually be able to get out. He must have given himself (and you) such a fright .

Report
NoRoomAtThePenguin · 05/12/2008 20:12

So did I and I googled bumbo ready to go completely ballistic complain but they actually say "Depending upon the individual development of the child, some babies will be able to climb out of the Bumbo". Not a developmental stage I'm paticularly happy about....

Ryder has worked out how to "walk" in his bumbo by shifting to one side and then pushing the bumbo along with the leg that's hanging out. He fell out the right hand side but landed on his left hand side (if you see what I mean) so I think he did the leg sticky out thing and then tried to roll - I said rolling was dangerous.

spongebrainbigpants · 05/12/2008 20:19

Oh bless him .

Totally with you on the dangers of rolling - found Alex with the Wii cable in his mouth again today - thought I'd moved it out of harm's way but clearly not.

Aah, I can see we are going to be having that debate on playpens rather sooner than I had expected what with all these active babies. Personally I already have my babydan and will be constructing it as soon as Jamie gets anywhere near mobile - just so I can shut myself in it for a cup of tea in peace obviously!

I didn't know babydan made playpens - I'm just putting up our travel cot in the corner of the living room once our building work is finished next week. Is that really bad ?

HI everyone

Had a lovely day , Christmas shopping this morning, then this afternoon went to a friends for a visit from st Nikolaus and the Krampus(awful monster creatures who aim to scare naughty children)We requested a visit from a small Krampus and I think it was a friend of Stefans so it wasn't scary! St Nik read from his book that the boys had been very good, including Ethan then gave them all presents (which we had supplied)Boys had an exciting night, walked home through a few inches of fresh snow. and have only just gone to bed at 10.15. Will post photos on profile.

I'm getting one of these playpens that you can also use as a room divider. I might use it around where Stefan and Tristan play lego or I might use it to cordon off the stairs as a regular stairgate won't work.

Well, Iestyn rolled again so it's not a one-off! But I'm also convinced of the dangers; I think he only rolled to get to the socket.
Currently uploading a video of Iestyn rejecting carrots to facebook. How my life has changed...

Essie, so you're ordering your playpen soon too then?! Can't wait to see the vid .

Deb, love the photos - Ethan looks v cute in his tights, and I also love the one of your three together. You have a beautiful family .

Morning everyone else. Alex has discovered his appetite again, after weeks of picking at bottles he downed one at 5pm, another at 7pm, again at 12 midnight and again at 6.30am! 8 ozs every time! May be finally ready for food!

Morning Sponge - thanks for the comments on the photos.

So, when are you starting the weaning then? Alex fed at the same times as Ethan last night.

Ethan's lying on the floor going ba ba ba ba, Stefan's convinced he's saying Mama - aah.

Just watched your vid! Don't think he likes carrots - sensible boy!

Anyone seen this:

Child Trust Funds

I was a bit confused by the quote:

"And the government had said in their literature that over the last 40 years every 18-year cycle of shares investment had done better than savings, ordinary savings accounts.

"Well, over the past year in total we've paid £825 into the account. And I rang up for a valuation and we were given a figure of £613."

Isn't she missing the point - you're supposed to look at the accounts over 18 years not 12 months!! Anyway, we're totally risk averse in our investments so haven't put anything else in bar the original £250 - the rest we've put in to an ordinary savings account!

Morning all, taken me ages to find the new thread think I am still suffering.

I genuinely have never been this busy with christmas parties, dentist appointments, a very unhappy teething baby who also has a chest infection and is on antibiotics, I have had an ear infection for 2 weeks now and keep loosing my balance while holding Isaac which is quite scary but they cannot do anything for it. As well as all this I am now considering going back to work full time due to my inflexibile boss

I will attempt to catch up later but for now we are off to my Guides christmas bazaar and then my NCT christmas party

But at least the sun is shining so I can hang the nappies on the line

Sorry abit egocentric as

Sponge, Agree with you about the CTF story. I have been moaning about the stupid CTF story to DH. I work in financial services and spent alot of time trying to make our products easier to understand. We don't sell CTFs so O dont really have a vested interest in the story per se. All investment products that rely on the stock market will have fallen this year, but it's probably a bigger problem for people about to retire. They seem to have gone for CTFs because of the emotive "child" factor IMO. The real problem is that financial literacy amongst the UK population is really poor which means that concepts like "financial risk" are not well understood. Then, when the markets fall lots of people are really shocked about what has happened to their money. That is what the media should really be concerned about.

The nice thing about the babydan is that you can use it as a barrier too. Plus I already own it and don't have to buy it again! It also has a nice red soft mat that cushions my bum when I sit in it to drink my tea away from demanding children...

Hedgehog, sorry you've been having a rough time. I would say there's nothing worse than an ear infection (or I would have said that but then I had a tooth abscess - it's close run!) and it sounds really horrible. You sound like you need a good rest, but that's easier said than done, I know...

Can I add that your new name is a little bit scarey - like Godfather!!

The carrots video (rather long and boring, I admit, but then so is weaning, apparently) has been a bit of a hit although I'm concerned about the guantanamo bay comparison!!

Iestyn's rolling away here. Tim is at work but I've made arrangements to meet a friend shortly, which is good as I was going a bit mad here by myself.

Second installment of baby rice gate coming up...

HH, sorry to hear you're having a rough time and having to consider f/t work .

We also have our NCT Xmas Party today - enjoy!

Ali, glad it's not just me! I'm no expert on the stock market but I thought the sensationalist reporting of this CTF story was shockingly inaccurate and that woman's comments were just plain stupid! Totally agree with you about financial illiteracy - about time they ditched half of the crap we teach kids in school and actually teach them something useful like how to budget and what an APR is. Then we might not have got ourselves into this bloody awful mess!

sybil, lol at sitting in the playpen - isn't it for the kids?!

Essie, yes your video has been quite a hit on FB - unlike the carrots!

sybil no need, I wasnt offended by what you said, and I undertand about you experience, just goes to proove guidlines are guildlines for a reason and every child is different and we cant just go by what the books say....

I have never said that if you dont do it at 17 weeks there WILL be a problem etc, its a guildline for 6months at the moment which health workers have up for consideration to change as Weaning IS part of speech.

I do feel though that alot of things I say are made a joke of and cant apply to people on this thread because of Olivias needs.....What they seem to forget is I have actually also been a mother for 9 years. With Olivia I cant take for granted that she will speak and her only issue will be a slight lisp etc....Its so very important she WEANS to give her the best chance of speaking. They think that is why she started crying because I managed to get her to take small oral feeds....she is also trying to babble and did so yesterday all be it in a whisper.

Anyway as all this is boring to alot of you and things I cant say can possibly have any clout. I have decided if I can ever be bothered to come back on MN I will stay in the dark depths of the SN threads where I would be made to feel like a 2nd class mother.

Thank you to the support I have received from some of you, I will miss some of you especially ones that I have been with since TTC.

AH will keep in touch through other means, your an amazing friend xx
