Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hollyivypoppy34 · 09/12/2008 17:51

thanks - I'm just kicking myself as sent britsh gas enginneer away (althoguh as dh points out they'd prob not have had teh part required either)

hollyivypoppy34 · 09/12/2008 17:52

but you have made me feel less mad about being cross with your pc world story (although I think staff in tehre adn dixons woudl drive anyone mad)

abdnhikinginawinterwonderland · 09/12/2008 18:25

josey D sat on the toilet for DH this weekend so obviously no trauma!

poppy how crap -hugs!!!!

hollyivypoppy34 · 09/12/2008 18:29

aw thanks -feeling bit better as fingers crossed looks like we may have some hot water (if I can hold dss off one of his marathon shower sessions) ...

by the way as I'm too scared to put this in AIBU what do you lot think - friend (long time friend) has invited me and dh over for early dinner just before xmas - leaving aside fact dh not really a fan, its not the best time for us (lunch fine but I'm a bit reluctant to take edie out then have to resettle her later -will be impossible to get a babysitter) - they want us to go to them as they've ahd kitchen done and also her dsc are over (they're quite little) -now have tried to suggest lunch etc but doesnt seem to be on. I'm not being too precious to turn this invite down on grounds of it being just too painful if we've not got a babysitter

hollyivypoppy34 · 09/12/2008 18:30

and before anyone says we could drive - its a nightmare to park there and no way could I get dh to go if he couldnt drink

spongebrainbigpants · 09/12/2008 19:02

Hi guys, god you lot talk!

Don't have time to read through tonight cos I'm dashing off to a parish council meeting (life in the bus lane, eh?! ), but just wanted to say that Alex did himself proud filming today - three hours he smiled and performed in front of the cameras and then spent another hour or so being cuddled by all the doctors and nurses at the clinic while I had my interview and they filmed my 'walking shots'.

He also opened his first Christmas presents, which the consultant had bought him, which was so exciting - he loved his fire engine and needed prising away from it!

If anyone's interested I think it's going to be on Meridian news tomorrow night (if you live in the Meridian area of course!!) and may be picked up by Thames TV too.

I'll let you know for definite tomorrow.

Hope all well, will catch up later x

hedgeHogfather · 09/12/2008 19:35

essie you can get doidy cups here, here and here. I have one which Isaac plays with at the moment

I must have baby brain as I cannot remember what else I wanted to write

EssieAStarInBethlehem · 09/12/2008 19:56

Ah, now, JoJoMamanBebe I can get to! Thanks, HH. Also, thanks for making me LOL:
'10% OFF when you spend over £250, ho ho!!!'

Ho ho indeed! It's like they're saying 'as if...'!

Does Isaac actually drink from it? (I'm assuming no because he is bfed.)

EssieAStarInBethlehem · 09/12/2008 19:59

BTW, remember me talking about a new kitchen? We don't need one but it's old and shabby. Tim is a bit reluctant to spend money.

The oven just blew.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 09/12/2008 20:07

poppy we always used to take DD out with us before she was about 1 after that then we went into realms of baby sitters, found that she was easy to settle out and easy when she came back, so the issue with me is to how much do I want to see the friend.

hollyivypoppy34 · 09/12/2008 20:28

good point -think you've hit the issue there - answer is not very much

oh dear dss had very cold shower.. although could be exactly what the dirty little dog needs

Amberc · 09/12/2008 20:46

Hello all, I'm back on the thread and I have seriously tried to read as much as I can but have given up so will have to pretend I am a newbie! I can't think of any way to Chrismas up my name so am staying as is (I have tried honest and all I came up with was I'mdreamingofanamberxmas but I don't think that would fit!). Had a lovely birthday, great hotel and nice weather and then an improptu night out to see the God/Legend that is Bazza Manilow (said with tongue firmly in cheek).

Anyway nice to be back, no weaning talk as Luke still won't eat anything. He has a terrible cold though so if anyone else is in the same boat I pity you with the all night coughing fits. Still Luke has never slept through so I am not missing anything I guess.

PS I certainly am not thinking of having another baby any time soon (something I read at the beginning of the thread!)

hollyivypoppy34 · 09/12/2008 20:48

ohh I'd like to see bazza (in an ironic way) amber -did he do mandy and copacabana?

hedgeHogfather · 09/12/2008 21:23

essie NO he bangs it on his highchair tray annoyingly, rhythmically?

Glad you had a nice time away amber I know what you mean about the colds. I got a tip from one of my NCT friends - snuffle babe and keep a vapour plug on with the door closed to contain the vapours so I am trying this tonight to see if I can make it past midnight. I am contemplating taking the spare duvet into Isaacs room rather than disturbing DH again - although he is off work tomorrow.

poppy I am having to make a similar decision as to whether I want to go and see some childless friends - who are desperate to meet Isaac - in Central London for 5.30 between Christmas and New Year. hmm rush hour with a pushchair and on the tube as well [mad mummy emotion]

Ohh also remembered something I wanted to post earlier - neenz was not trying to get at you for using purees, you seem so together for someone with twins that I am amazed that they are your first I have immense respect for you. My point which I got across so inefficiently was that my NCT friends can't believe I am not doing baby rice, my mum and MIL said give him some baby rice and my SIL has been feeding my nephew baby rice since he was 15 weeks (as well as putting him in a forward facing car seat - a whole other issue) and I loved the fact that I could come on here and get some support/talk to mums who are doing the same things. And I love your FB videos

spongebrainbigpants · 09/12/2008 21:35

Welcome back Amber, Alex has also been up alot with the coughing thing so you have my every sympathy!

I take that no one was interested in Alex's tv appearance then - saves me having to upload it!

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 09/12/2008 21:46

Neenz, thanks for your post, will try to keep you informed of how we get on with BLW.

Today's excitement was definite evidence of carrot in the nappy (can't believe this is what I have been reduced to posting). So Essie - yes we have had carrot success, but only with a long baton that Peter inserted into his mouth like a sword swallower (didn't gag amazingly). Hummous and rice cake were popular and enabled everything to get a sticky coating ready for the brocilli to stick to it. He loved the brocilli. And yes I do need to learn to spell that word.

Amber how was the holiday? You didn't turn up at Giraffe today did you?

neenztwinz · 09/12/2008 21:56

HH, I didn't think you were getting at me for using purees! I also hope you know I wasn't getting at you about BLW (things can come across so wrong in cyberspace). I am genuinely interested in BLW and that is why I was asking all the questions. Thanks all for your support re the twins etc. I have felt terrible all day for offending Sponge and Alipalli - I hope you guys do know that I wasn't getting at you for BLW or criticising your choice to go with BLW - I would never criticise anyone for the way they bring up their babies cos it is nothing to do with me. I have very strong opinions (you may have noticed) and sometimes say some insensitive things (in RL and on MN) without meaning to, and get really bothered if I upset someone without realising. I am feeling very hormonal today as well (you might have guessed), but that is good in a way cos hopefully it means my hormones are doing what they should - I haven't had a period without help since I was about 19 (had Clomid to conceive the twins) so I would be made up to get a real cycle going on! I don't really want to have to use clomid again (one set of twins is enough thank you!).

Baby rice at 15 weeks .

Poppy, I don't think you are being precious. Have they asked you to stay over or are they expecting you to go home? Either way, I'd say you can't stay cos you are worried Edie won't settle (meaning a crap night for all anyway) and you can't come and go home late cos Edie has a bedtime routine that starts at Xpm and you need to be home for then. They should accommodate you at lunch if that is better for you.

I'd love to see Alex's TV appearance Sponge

Jollyjoseyjinglebells · 09/12/2008 22:04

Hi Amberc glad you had a nice time.
"Isawamberckissingsanta"

"Amberchristmascracker"

Forgot to say earlier, Olivias speech therapist was in today, and the connection, is they feel there mouths with food, so they are aware of the different parts, which makes them make different shapes, which aids speech(does that read right?I dont know im too tired)

DIngdong pmsl at the carrot in nappy, wait till you progress to raisins and sweetcorn

Anyhoo Essie hope something works for you tonight with the bottles.

Everyone else with coughing crying non-sleeping babies, I wish you peace and sweetdreams.

Jollyjoseyjinglebells · 09/12/2008 22:06

Oh and poppy hope heating gets fixed, lol at Dss in the shower though, that must of made you feel a little wamer

Sponge yes please I would like to see him on TV, I have probablly missed it along the way but what was it for(shame faced josey)

FiveGoMadInDorset · 09/12/2008 22:07

josey that reads very well and is really interesting. Thank you.

spongebrainbigpants · 09/12/2008 22:25

Neenz, you didn't offend me hun - I'm very sensitive but not that easily offended!! (If that makes sense !). I tried to phrase my response in a way that meant you would know I wasn't upset with you, just putting the 'other side' as it were! Tbh, I'm nervous as hell about giving Alex anything to eat .

josey, don't apologise! It was filmed at my IVF clinic and was about his miraculous conception - a lovely Christmas story!

Yes, the speech thing makes sense - and my HV is also one of the few who told me about the connection! Some of them seem to be more clued up then others.

poppy, your FB banter with your dh (at least I hope it's your dh!) about his backless maid uniform did make me laugh!

systemsaddict · 10/12/2008 06:57

sponge i'd love to see the vid! please upload!!

poppy a pushchair puncture had me in tears last week, heating problems would cause a complete meltdown. (Felt better when a mummy friend confessed she would probably have had to buy a new pushchair rather than fix a puncture!)

I have turned down works Christmas do which I would have loved to go to and could have brought Caitlin, on the basis that the evenings are just too complicated right now. Completely fine to turn down your friend IMHO. It's not forever, something approaching a normal social life will resume eventually!

Essie how was the night? I don't think the beakers are the basic TT ones as the ones we have here are much slower flow - only one or two holes - the one the nursery nurse showed me had enough holes the milk fairly dribbled out. And Doidy cups - had them, chucked them. Lovely idea but as soon as ds realised he could practise pouring with them, they were gone!

passroundflourymincepies · 10/12/2008 07:23

Morning!

Just checking in b4 leaving for work! Have left fleur and DH sound asleep in bed. Fleurs off nursery this week as her cough is keeping her up all night so she is grumbly and sleepy in day. Im keeping her inside for a bit aand letting her sleep loads as i want it gone by the time we fly

Have read through quickly the posts:

Amber glad you had good hols

Sponge id too like to see your xmas story

BLW not going down here, too be fair havent offered her much as no highcahir yet and she has been too full of cold to even want purees so just going with her at mo and will see in Jan when highchair arrives if finger food is liked better

Ok thiss weekend im sorting clothes for England Question what do you dress your LO in for outside during day and in eve? and what do they wear inside and for sleep. Just wondering how many layers to take for her

right have to leave now, ive got a bottle of frankincense to make today, 25 stockings and read through 25 reports for mistakes yeeeeaaahhh!

abdnhikinginawinterwonderland · 10/12/2008 08:02

sponge thought we had to live in your area to see Alex (and I obviously don't) - can you put a video somewhere? I use vimeo for our family ones.

One of the annoying competitive mothers at playgroup has been feeding her child baby rice and banana - he's 10 weeks!!!! . She also thinks he's trying to crawl. Maybe next week he'll be reading according to her... I don't like her and her friends very much but they all have wee babies younger than Fraser and I mostly hang out with the toddler mums anyways as they tend to be the most laid back.

Paro Fraser wears a long sleeved onzie and a sleepsuit at night under a 2.5 tog sleeping bag. During the day I'd recommend a onzie and long sleeved shirt with tights and trousers for the bottom half. Then if you're outside you can put her in a snowsuit as well. The advantage of trousers and tights is that there's no way she'll lose her socks! I also put shoes on fraser inside his snowsuit to make sure his feet stay warm. Then in his buggy he's also in a fleece cosy toe. wow that sounds like a lot of layers! But it is cold here! Hope that helps.

spongebrainbigpants · 10/12/2008 08:53

AH, love the idea of a 10 wk trying to crawl ! Course Alex has been walking since he was 8 weeks but I didn't want to boast!

Morning all - thank you for indulging my proud mummy moment, will attempt to upload once it's broadcast!

Builders nearly finished, wood flooring going down as we speak - they even made me a cup of tea this morning cos I looked so shit! 12.30am, 2.30am, 4.30am last night!
