Exactly fairy, that's what I told him. It's his fault for leaving the bag in the living room. He drew all over the Mac with a Sharpie the other day, luckily it came off with nail varnish remover, but it took me over an hour to get it all off. That was my fault, I left the pen on the windowsill, he climbed onto the computer table and fished it off! He is a little bugger!

I shan't be posting on the bf/ff boards again.

HollyWeen · 20/11/2008 19:15

Not sad at all to be in bed at 7. I wish I was! Sorry you've had a bad day.

HollyWeen · 20/11/2008 19:18

Butterfly, that site with the bath bombs on is brillo! I'm buying dd some little bits and bobs from there so we can make some Christmas pressies. She'll love it!

holly, it's a shame your thread went loopy; they all do in the end when it comes to choices. I also can't understand why it has to get so polarised and would never knowingly criticise anyone's choice (I say knowingly as I did upset someone on a thread about bedtime formula a while ago, but I didn't mean to iyswim?)

educatingRia · 20/11/2008 21:21

sorry you've had a bad day natty.

and that your thread went the way of all threads where there is someone who knows better holly. BTW I forgot to add that DS1 also had hungry baby milk, but as I'd starved him for 6 weeks I'm not surprised. He was a seriously porky toddler but I have been trying to fatten him up for a couple of years now. That probably has no bearing on your argument. Will your actual debate get nasty or are they level-headed, open-minded types in your group?

thank you for having lovely manners MMR.

I don't think I'm brave enough for bath bombs.

Would it be wrong to text my mum and teach her the word "wanker" in reference to David Van Day???

Hi fairy, glad the crayon came off.

oh, and holly, fwiw I was totally swayed by Aptamil's "closer to breastmilk" line when I switched to FF with DS. That and the fact that it was more expensive than the others said to me that it was obviously better ...and that was based purely on the consumer aspect of the advertising. I think the vague and fluffy advertising should be banned and be replaced with factual information available at a HCP level. The targetting of HCPs by the formula companies should also stop. VS's post on your thread is very good and I kind of agree with what she is saying.

Aptamil's message is still getting across as well as a few of the women on my nov thread are using it as it's....."closer to breastmilk"

LeakyDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 21:36

and sorry for your bad day Natty. God knows my two are testing enough at times without the added challenges of SN

When the HV was in earlier today, DD was doing her utmost to get all the attention focussed on her.....and was always putting herself in between the baby and the HV. We've spent a bit of quality time together this evening though and she went off to bed in a much better frame of mind.

I think i need a break from the pooter. what with allmy Mneing and the patting and rubbing of the baby trying to get some wind out of him, my right hand and arm are aching. I think I have RSI from all the baby rubbing!!

educatingRia · 20/11/2008 21:50

daisy, when did you get leaky??? I've only just noticed!

Bloody freezing here too Natty.

Holly, I didn't see your thread. I fucking hate bf/ff threads and have hidden them following being patronised and dismissed. I know nothing about bf apparently

FWIW I don't think formula should be portrayed as poison. I think it should be promoted as an alternative. Its not giving Absinth to a baby, its processed cows milk ffs. By banning it you are essentially saying there is something wrong with it, when in most walks of life (I think MN is the exception) it is perfectly acceptable. Only on here is it the devil's own spew.

My real arguement comes with medical professionals being too ready to recommend it. To me that takes away an element of personal choice. Advertising gives you a choice, makes you aware of brands and what is available. A HV tells you to 'get her [the baby] on Aptimil' is where the problem is IME. The vast majority of mother's will not question that advice - and rightly so - we should be able to trust our HPs.

Perhaps Formula companies could put less money into advertising and more into education. Let people know of the benefits of bf, address the balance a bit. Of course this is a contradiction.

Hey Butterfly

Yes, Channel 4 news are filming at hers with her doula - something to do with doula tax??? did I understand that correctly? Might not be on tonight, but I have set my Sky+ anyway

I got flamed for thinking diet affected bm ages ago. I'm not convinced that it still doesn't, but wanted to understand why it might not. What she said makes sense to some degree, but I still don't accept that nutrional quality of someones bm who eats well and conscienciously is the same as a woman in a third world country, as I was told before.

How are things with you?

Now I have to dash to do the school run! gah! I'll be back later as DP away again this weekend
