Cricketsmum-Ummmmmm...speechless, really. I know she will lose her place in the "queue" but surely she'd rather be at home by now?

Ewe · 01/12/2008 19:25

If I were your sis I would be self discharging, spending the night at home, nice bath, decent nights sleep etc. Then tomorrow I would be going to a different hospital and demanding a c-section (or ramp up the induction if she would prefer).

I would request to see Head of Midwifery and speak to PALS. Actually, she should brief her DP/H as he will be stronger and better placed to deal with it. The way they are treating her is completely unacceptable.

turtledove23 · 01/12/2008 19:33

And in the mean time, get her a breast pump and get her doing nipple stimulation to bring it on!

skidoodle · 01/12/2008 19:49

Oh no, Cricketsmum that is awful, your poor sister You must be beside herself. 4 DAYS?! WTF are they on, that is outrageous. And she has your doctor-in-law there fighting her corner? Jakers.

This is why I am never giving birth again without a Doula. I was so foolishly trusting first time around. I had a very similar experience to Ewe and FnF1 monthlymayhem AFAIK it is important to give them water to prevent them getting dehydrated if they are having solids and especially if they are on formula as formula is food, not food & drink like BM.

I say this, but I keep forgetting to give DD much water. In her case it does matter because she gets very constipated at times and water really helps to ease it.

Interesting that you still feed before solids. I was doing that too until this very weekend. When I read everyone saying their LOs were having 3 or 4 milk feeds and realised DD was having 5 (well BFs, but the equivalent of around 5 two-boobers) I thought perhaps it was time to let her eat food when hungry and see how it went. I only do that for lunch. Breakfast and supper she still has milk first. OK, I admit it, we only started doing breakfast this weekend too.

monthlymayhem · 01/12/2008 20:28

CM - that is absolutely disgraceful, your poor Sister I guess going home would be the best thing to do, but when it's your first I think you tend to bow down to the medics and assume that the treatment you're getting is the 'norm'.

Thanks Skidoodle. I think because I had been BFing I'd always ignored the water thing, and have kind of forgotten it's important now LO is on formula. He has always been in the little and often camp, so ends up getting bottles at wakeup, mid morning, mid afternoon, bedtime and a late dream feed. Most of the time he'll only take 3/4 oz at a time so I guess he probably needs all of those! I did think about cutting out the mid am and mid pm ones, but on our quest to get a good night's sleep I keep reading that milk has more calories than most food, so have kept all the feeds going!

turtledove23 · 01/12/2008 20:38

Don't know if it will help anyone, but P HATED water and refuses to drink it unless it is a)in a proper cup b)in my proper cup and c)he thinks it's what I'm drinking. I know that this makes me a bad mother, but he will drink ANYTHING if it is in my cup. He has attacked a gin and tonic (he managed to get a sip in ) will drink most herbal teas, regular tea and coffee(don't let him), and today's fave(which I had to let him try for comedy value but he actually LIKED it) was fizzy water with lemon juice in it. He also will eat anything if it's mine. (Curry a big hit.)

monthlymayhem · 01/12/2008 20:44

Thanks Turtle will give a normal cup a try. Funnily enough, he does seem happy to pounce on a wine glass if he gets the chance (and they are in view quite alot! )

merryberry · 01/12/2008 22:40

all seems peaceful here thanks. poor boys. it's been a loooooooong weekend. i went out this evening to a concert that bought tears to my eyes as they sang 'true love' from high society...the chorus to that is a really good lullaby and made me think of the boys and boohoohoohoohoohoo. i don't get out much .

at least it wasn't the w/e before, i wouldn't have missed the mn do for the world. twas very funny, mind you one of my fave bit of all was pre-drinks in a clerkenwell pub with glam sorry sexonfire! and looking at all the normal childfree people enjoying their normal childfree lives.

anyway, i'm stunned: if solidbrassballs really is xenia's alter ego, i can tell you she is NOTHING like i expected! anyway, recommend it for a night out. was a great venue, no interruptions. clean, cool enough, endless parade of chunky snack food.

cm i'm sorry for all the worry and crapness.

HolidaysQueen · 01/12/2008 23:32

oh yes, we have the normal cup fetish here. problem is the liquid touches his lips and then he looks so startled that he is getting something from it that he almost drops the cup. so we are persisting with doidy/tommee tippee for now.

actually it's reassuring to know that your LOs don't seem to drink gallons. I'd kind of assumed that because he is on 3 feeds a day that he would be making up the other 4-5 he's dropped in water, but of course I was forgetting that most of those feeds were for the food rather than the drink. Doh!

fitnfortyone · 01/12/2008 23:39

wow CM, I'm so glad I moved to Wales, used to live near Uxbridge so would have ended up in Hillingdon no doubt...do they think it's a bloody race or something, telling her she'll lose her place in the queue? Bit like phoning a call centre huh, you have x number of pregnant women in front of you, please hold the line while we check for signs of dilation, ruptured membranes and extreme swearing...

Touch wood, vomiting appears to have died away for now, still a bit of a cough, more a nervous reaction I think, but change of formula currently causing nightmare nappies and wind so going through the piercing screams due to sore innards stage for a few days. Better than the vomit though! And sleep seems much better for it too, he isn't waking so readily even though it's only a couple of days since we switched.

Right, have finished first assignment for Hypnobirthing course, just got the easier one to do tomorrow then I can post it off and forget about things for 6 weeks until the certificate comes back (or the script for rewording the wrong answers )

Here's to sleepfilled nights for all!

skidoodle · 01/12/2008 23:52

I thought solidbrass was the new madamez?

Are they also Xenia?? That would be weird.

Xenia working on sex chatlines

turtledove23 · 02/12/2008 05:48

I'm confused...what are you talking about? Xenia?

merryberry · 02/12/2008 08:23

well i met a woman at the mn do who sexonfire said was xenia, but i think she went by the name solidbrasssummitorother so i was a bit confused. nothing to do with the large drink every hour on the hour, you understand...will clarify when sexonfire nex round! sexonfire! how are you?

merryberry · 02/12/2008 08:33

ooh very funny thread over here

i am still a touch like this when dh takes them out to play at toddler/baby places

CricketsMum · 02/12/2008 11:19

hi all

thanks for the support & suggestions! she's still there. 3 of the 5 in front of her went into labour naturally last night so she's moved up the queue ... can't get there myself so have been co-ordinating a pincer manouvre from my parents... my dads taking on the hospital administrators and my mum is sitting in the ante-natal ward harrassing all the midwives and doctors she can find. my sister is hiding under the covers wishing she was at home with her baby who is apparently going to be called Jingle Belle as a nod to the season & the ultimate revenge for not wanting to come out!!!

fn41 - hillingdon was best of a bad lot... Northwick Park is more convenient but she was keen to live through the experience...

had xmas lunch @ a friends yesterday (4 of us with babies) - fab as the babies played happily and we toasted the season... sadly dd very over-tired today and decidedly clingy. Trying to psyche myself to go to clinic for a dreaded weigh in today. i HATE going now that she won't stay still to get a nappy on her!

happy tuesday all!

merryberry · 02/12/2008 12:36

oh man check out hq's fb holiday snaps. torn between feeling joy at the lovely sights and at the lovely sites

fitnfortyone · 02/12/2008 13:09

the holiday photos are superb and am very at the thought of being somewhere warm enough for LO to just parade round (or be bowled) in nappies

Am feeling very upbeat today as LO has slept through again and no vomit since Sunday morning!

Still touching formica

merryberry · 02/12/2008 13:13

hey, thought i was the only woman in the uk left with a formica kitchen! it's shite, and its still working. thank gawd. can't face the hassle of ahving a new kitchen yet. just can't.

HolidaysQueen · 02/12/2008 13:22

MB, Fn41: thanks for your lovely photo comments

CM: I do think your sister is, scarily, in the best place as her other local choice is probably Ealing Hospital which celebrated earlier this year when it actually moved off the bottom slot for cleanliness out of all hospitals in the country. It's now second bottom... I managed to avoid that place by a whisker. Really hoping that number 4 of 5 has that baby in record time so she is finally top of the list!

Anyone got any good remedies for a sore throat/cough in a baby? DS is making himself really upset every time he coughs, and is really hoarse. The hoarseness isn't helped by him being in that baby phase of shouting and babbling loudly all the time (including 3am ) It's the sort of cough/sore throat where if it was me I'd just be eating a jar of honey a day, but of course that is off limits for his lordship!

SexOnFire · 02/12/2008 14:05

HQ, lovely photos. You all look like you had a fabulous time.

MB and all others. Afaik, solidgoldbrass is the newish name of Xenia. Maybe I'm not supposed to be shouting that out. She was not at all what I expected either and I did ejoy an interesting coversation we had where we were somehow talking about a shortlived lesbian SM magazine from 15 years ago called Quim.In the first five minutes of our first ever converstion. It was a wonderfully unexpected subject.

Not been on here much as I kind of went a little downhill. Gp has doubled my AD dose and my ex therapist hauled me in for a bit of breathing space. I'm waiting for my referral to the Psych department but until then my old therapist is going to see me every month till April, when she leaves. Trying to take it a day at a time. And I have a treat tonight of a merryberry recommended book and a hot bubbly bath.

Before that though I have to clean up the kitchen, put the rest of my internet shopping away, clean the bathroom, got to school early to collect DD who has a hideous verucca which won't budge, come home, cook fecking chicken and apple balls, feed two kids, bath 2 kids and put them to bed. The baby is much easier than DD, I can bath C in the time it takes me to persuade Lillith that her bath time is NOW, YOUNG LADY. Still, DP will be home at 6 hopefully and I'm going to let him worry about our dinner. Even though I had a hideously expensive Tesco shop delivered I have no frigging actual food. Mini sausage and bacon wraps, mini chocolate eclairs, mini chicken kebabs and so forth, I have ample supplies. Ditto, baby milk, nappies, toilet roll. But I have nothing to eat. Christmas will be great though. Actually when I say I have nothing to eat that is of course not true. I'm not exactly a refugee in Congo. I will go and whip up a perfectly adequate meal from the stuff I have in.
Wow, sorry for all the stream of consciousness there. I guess that would be the bathroom not cleaned then. Must go and do something more hygiene related while C is asleep.
Take care y'all.

SexOnFire · 02/12/2008 14:07

whoops, just realised I outed my daughter in my last post. Keep it under your hats, ladies.

SexOnFire · 02/12/2008 14:10

And I'm going to school to collect DD who has the hideous verrucca to take her to the GP. Missed that bit out. I'm not picking her up early just because she has a wart on her foot. . Poor kid.

merryberry · 02/12/2008 14:37

good to see you sof. sorry its been tough. i'm nearly at the end of book two of the baroque cycle and planning to go to library to pre-order no. 3 tonight, as i think i will go sweaty cold turkey if i have to live without one for one day. book 2 is even better than book 1! can't believe it! and laugh out loud both of them, between the interesting bits. even in the intersting bits!

(neal stephenson's quicksilver, the confusion and the system of the world, if anyone looking for absorbing reads)

fitnfortyone · 02/12/2008 14:53

glad you revealed the name of the books MB otherwise I'd think you were talking in Spooks speak and having a penchant for wearing a pink carnation and carrying a copy of the Times

Formica is in work on the desk, don't think it's as sophisticated as MDF either. No idea what's in the kitchen at home, it came with the house

fitnfortyone · 02/12/2008 14:55

SOF, sorry you're feeling so down still, hope the therapy helps.

HQ have you tried giving more water or diluted juice? LO knocked it back recently when the cough was really rough. Colloidal silver spray is another option but very pricey!
