OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

CM - have they done a positional scan? Possible the head isn't in the right position, not necessarily back to back. Not that I'm still bitter that noone picked that up with me despite knowing it wasn't supposed to hurt up my spine like that (brow presentation, otherwise in the right position)...hope she can avoid a drip though, that is not the way to go without an epidural My cm was a strap with 2 sensors which I had to hold in place for hours at a time to get the heartbeat- they forgot about me too...not a tubigrip, that might have been more comfortable!

Had a great night last night, tried a dreamfeed but LO out for the count and kept mouth firmly shut - then he slept until 7.35 this morning. Had a full bottle, dozed off on top of me (normally wide awake until 9ish), we then had breakfast and some juice. 5 mins later, vomited copiously all over the hall floor Am perplexed as he doesn't seem ill other than the intermittent cough, but he didn't cough prior to vomming this morning and had coughed earlier after his milk without ill effect. He's knocked back 4oz water though, glad about that as worried he's getting a bit dehydrated. Would like to phone NHS direct, but they sit on the fence so much I just know they'll say go to out of hours gp who'll find nothing wrong.

fitnfortyone · 30/11/2008 11:31

CM sorry, just reread your original post, didn't realise contractions hadn't started yet. Might still be that baby isn't in right position as contractions won't start otherwise! Agree the waiting is the worst bit, that environment & cm won't help a bit as she'll have too much adrenaline pumping round her system to relax enough Hope you have better news soon, babies don't like to put in an appearance before they're ready!

CricketsMum · 30/11/2008 16:32

Baby isn't engaged yet!!! Trying a gel tonight apparently. Sister going slowly mad as they won't let her go home . (Turtle - they wanted to start inducing at 40+10 and she was so bored of being preggers that she didn't bother to fight!)

merryberry · 30/11/2008 16:55

cricketsmum, ds1 was an induction (on due date) that took 3 days (normal vag birth at end. i got very very tired, but no complications for me, quite bad jaundice for baby as he was knackered by it). the continuous monitoring equipment tubigrip sounds very deletorious to her abililty to cope. someone get rid of it if it's tiring her out.

merryberry · 30/11/2008 16:56

erm. wjhat??? can't let her go home?? what are they a prison? blimey. she can do what she needs to do and they can do some proper caring by the sounds of it, not browbeating her into submission! anyway wishing her well.

turtledove23 · 30/11/2008 18:25

CM-If they haven't put her on a drip, tell her to GO HOME! They can't make her stay. What is going to happen, she goes into labour at home? If she needs to be monitored every four hours they can send a midwife out to her. With a pinard if nothing else! (will butt out now, I promise.)

CricketsMum · 30/11/2008 19:52

i agree with you both but am not there and she isn't the most assertive person in the world and knows very little about the whole birth thing (bare necessities really). Have told her to take herself home but up to her now. Also told her to take the CM band off if it hurts and they don't take it off when they say they will.
MB - thanks for telling me about ds1 - encouraging!
Turtle - thanks for your text... tbh I suspect she will just go with what she is told... we are quite different in our approach to these things!!

Feeding suddenly better today for dd which is a relief, but she has suddenly stopped taking bottles (was only giving her top-up feeds a couple of times a day so could be a change in appetite or sommat)... can't keep up with her!!

FF - did spag in tomato sauce with mini meatballs for tea... she loved it. but WHAT A MESS!!!!! Dh couldn't watch. i sat there in fits of giggles!

Ewe · 30/11/2008 20:23

CM - FWIW, I had a very similar birth experience. Thurs they started with pessaries, nothing happened on Thurs or Fri after three lots. I discharged myself as they said they wouldn't do anything else without a break and I NEEDED to sleep!

To be honest, I think me going home was what did the trick as I relaxed and had unknowingly dilated to 2cm. I then had ARM - did nothing. Synto drip - 18 hours and then nothing. Ended in an emergency c-section. If I had my time again I would go from pessary to c-section, I hope your sis has a better time than I did. There is no reason for her not to go home, I hate it when hospitals do this sort of thing, very tough for her.

Keep us posted, will be thinking positive vibes for her!

turtledove23 · 01/12/2008 05:48

Whoever stole my baby and brought me this one-
THANK YOU!! WE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT! Well, he did, anyway. Even if it is a one off and will always result in 530 start, it sure beats what we've had for past few weeks.
(goes off singing to make breakfast)

merryberry · 01/12/2008 08:15

any news cm?

hey ho, both boys ill. mummy here very depressed by it all. likely to be in the house all day. ds1 acting up as he wants to go to school and really can't.

what is making me laugh is for some reason he thinks that tutti fruti sweets made him ill and is complaining of tooti frooti pooti despite having no tummy symptoms, just a raging cold...

merryberry · 01/12/2008 08:24

mind you not so much depressed now as randomly RAGING

HolidaysQueen · 01/12/2008 10:36

Morning all!

CM - fingers crossed that there is progress for your sister soon
Turtle - good news on the sleep
MB - i'm dealing with illness too, albeit it only one very snotty, very grumpy, very tired little boy rather than 2. I extend the hand of sympathy to you. You'll find it contains chocolate

Quick question: how much water does your DC take during the day? I'm lucky to get 2oz in my DS all day, which seems hardly any but I'm hoping wondering if that might be normal for a bf baby.

merryberry · 01/12/2008 10:46

i'm up to 4oz with gg, in dribs and drabs. i actually counted this weekend, as trying to keep him hungry enough for solids...too much milk and he sleeps hungry. ie lots of waking to moan a bit.

ilovegreenbeans · 01/12/2008 10:47

snotty coughing baby here too. Is there anything besides calpol i can give her?
Thankfully, she's slept for the past 1.5h so I've baked some virtual treats for you all. Enjoy!

merryberry · 01/12/2008 10:48

have scoffed virtual choc and want MORE

HolidaysQueen · 01/12/2008 11:31

i've now run out of chocolate but have homemade mince pies to offer round if that is a good enough substitute

merryberry · 01/12/2008 12:19

baby ibuprofen? mince pies duly demolished. ta muchly.

god i'm bored...can't even do housewk to entertain self. just sit under ill little ones and encourage ds1 not to yell at baby for his incessant grisle

JFly · 01/12/2008 13:47

Feeling a bit that I have no idea how much water G gets. I just fill his cup for each meal. He seems to drink quite a bit at meals, but I only offer it otherwise if we're out and about and haven't had milk. He still has a BF feed mid-morn and mid-afternoon.

Sorry, that doesn't really help! I've read that if baby is fully BF then you only need to offer water at meals and that's just to get them used to using the cup, etc. Not sure what to do if you are FF.

merryberry · 01/12/2008 13:59

i wouldn't have bothered finding out only i've been recently curious about his intake. he's a lazy boy sometimes and happy to live on milk...to the detriment of his nutrition and sleeping!

HolidaysQueen · 01/12/2008 16:09

JFly - don't feel . I only know because it took so long to get him used to any cup that I was watching like a hawk to see when he had actually drunk anything!

monthlymayhem · 01/12/2008 16:58

Ok, I'm a confused first timer here , but how important is it that they have water?? LO is now bottle fed, and still always gets milk before his meals. I do give him a cup with water along with his meals but he'll usually just throw it round the highchair. I'm lucky if he has two sips of water all day. Is that bad?? I'd just assumed as long as he gets milk that would be ok?? Should I be cutting back and giving water instead?

merryberry · 01/12/2008 17:35

no its not bad! its what he's doing. what gg was doing was bad...happily subsisting on 9 NINE! bottles a day if left to his dad it. don't forget gg went onto solids early and is a large, dense and weirdly handy boy.

quite spooky really. he's desperately been trying to stack blocks like his brother. of course, he can't, but its weird to watch one so young try.

mould. ewe mould free place..where? same area? giving up your other lease or breaking it? must be bloody soul destroying in this weather

monthlymayhem · 01/12/2008 18:41

ok, thanks MB! Won't worry about the water too much then.

Funny how they try to copy other kids. LO's cousin is 12mths and can walk very well and LO is sooooo annoyed that he can't do the same..especially when his cousin takes the toys he's playing with out of his hands and runs away with them

Ewe · 01/12/2008 19:10

DD hated water until I copied what turtle did at the meet up - use a proper cup - and she now loves drinking water. Thanks turtle! Also good to hear P gave you a break last night, I am sure they know when they have pushed you near to breaking point!

MB - Same area, nearer to station and nursery, brand new, full of light, wooden floor and it has a DISHWASHER! I'm so happy, la la, la. Are the boys any better this evening?

DD just walked with her walker the whole length of the front room I can't believe how quickly she is advancing in the movement stakes. She has also been doing this mad grabbing cackling thing she does to other babies/children/pets/anyone at nursery - catfighting as they call it! Thankfully they think it is funny, I expect they won't if she is doing it in a year or two still.

CM hope your sis has had her baby now!

CricketsMum · 01/12/2008 19:14

i am soooooo mad at HILLINGDON BLOODY HOSPITAL. they are officially shite.
Little sis was given gel (??) last night and this morning according to the machine she was having contractions (yay) but she couldn't feel them (no surprise there... she didn't feel it when she broke her foot, or her ribs or ironed her arm... lots of other stories! (but no she wasn't drunk on any of those occasions)). so... having contractions and apparently 2cm dilated. hurrah. oh, and baby engaged. hallelujah. so... next step... break her waters. but oh dear. no rooms in the delivery suite so they can't do that yet. ok. FIVE people ahead of her in the queue. Yup, FIVE!!!! and so they are estimating FOUR DAYS (DAYS!!!) until they can move her to delivery suite and break her waters and there is nothing they can do for her in the interim unless her baby decides to come of its own accord. Oh, and if she discharges herself she loses her place in the queue.

I'm sorry but WTF???? New levels of NHS shiteness.

She's 42 weeks tomorrow and is going OUT OF HER MIND with boredom and discomfort.
