steroids saved my sanity this summer, let me move again when RA had me almost motionless.

more about rest stuff later, think i hear you know who awaking

JFly · 13/11/2008 13:10

HQ my first period a couple weeks ago was very light and only 3 days or so. Felt a twinge yesterday and figure that was ovulation and should be on schedule for another period in about two weeks. Funny how in tune I am now to all the signs!

fitnfortyone · 13/11/2008 13:13

If anyone's really worried about the effects of steroids, you could always go see a homeopath to get something to antidote the "bad" effects while still getting the benefits that the steroids bring. I admit I'd be feeling guilty as hell for using them, but equally as guilty for not getting LO's discomfort over and done with as soon as possible.

Btw, do I gather that it's quite normal for LOs to vomit when they have a cough/cold? Is it the phlegm causing them to gag or just the milk irritating their throats? I don't know whether to take LO to GP or not (that's a faff in itself now I'm back at work and his gran lives in a different health area), but don't want to be told it's just normal, he'll get over it, stop pestering etc etc.

merryberry · 13/11/2008 20:09

hi all. will be with you from phone only for a while it seems. mucho computer/isp/firewall clash nightmare going on. and i've so many effing deadlines coming up. work, fun, uni, ebay. grrr.

sexonfire msg on facebook for you. ok, net caff closing round me. time to haul back home!

turtle23 · 14/11/2008 08:34

fnf1-Yes, I'm afraid it's the only way they can expel mucous. Charming, isn't it? Don't worry, it doesn't usually last for too long.

evie2000 · 14/11/2008 14:54

thanks for words of wisdom, much appreciated. Sympathy with all the other issues rocking about....there is always something isn't there. Friend of mine is 5 months pregnant worrying at the slightest thing, is she feeling it, isn't she etc etc and I could only say it trains you for life once the baby arrives...a constant stream of worry in many ways but at least now we get the good days interspersed with the worry!

stay warm all.

HolidaysQueen · 14/11/2008 19:35

skidoodle - just in case you're around, i've just noticed a thread with someone heading back to work with a 4mo wanting to continue bf. that's what you did isn't it? i thought you might have some advice for her. the thread is here

MarchNowFebMum · 15/11/2008 07:28

Has anyone ever heard of babies having a chicken intolerance?? DD had really really bad wind for weeks and weeks (would wake screaming the the night (several times) and eventually have a huge fart and then settle again) then suddenly stopped last week. Had put it down to teething but then realised she had had chicken free food for several days when it suddenly stopped. Gave her chicken for tea yesterday and had a dreadful night with mucho farting. no other teething symptoms atm. no chicken today so will see what the night brings. just wondered if anyone had come across anything like that before as chicken is usually pretty uncontroversial if properly cooked?

am still in the 'no periods yet' camp but as I am still breastfeeding for britain (she won't drop milk feeds... am convinced she will still be breastfed when she's 15 at this rate!) i suspect my hormones are still very firmly in the 'lactating not ovulating' camp!

fitnfortyone · 15/11/2008 19:51

CM, not heard of specific chicken intolerance, what about other meat? May just be inability to digest meat properly yet? Otherwise, might be whatever the chuck is actually fed on or injected with...

turtle23 · 15/11/2008 20:46

CM- Well, I love chicken, but it ALWAYS upsets my stomach. Spent ages trying to work it out and have just learned to deal with it, but yes...you can be chicken intolerant.

FfreckleFface · 15/11/2008 23:09

at baby feeding dog.

Girldog has taken to sitting next to the highchair while I am feeding little Ff, catching any spill off. Little Ff has embraced this, and thinks it's great to lean over the side dropping extras down to her. To make life easier for me, Girldog occasionally licks little Ff's fingers, which saves me the job of washing her when we're finished...

But, for all of the baby-size related panic that seemed to define her first six months, she eats more than someone her size possibly should. She is still dinky (just about wearing 6-9 month clothes, 3-6 month still fit)but I have given up caring. She is happy, sits, stands, crawls (but only backwards),and has grown two teeth with no fuss at all. And, (and I am going to whisper this, and assure all of you having sleep trouble that I realise it could all go wrong, and I could find myself hopelessly exhausted all over again) she sleeps from 7pm -7.30am every night. I haven't had a broken night since she turned 4 months old, and for the two months leading up to that she was waking at 4 on the dot for a feed, then going straight back to sleep, so at least I knew when I would be woken. She is an absolute star, and I am torn between wondering if it is just karma, because we had so many issues with poor weight gain, and her taking over an hour to feed every bloody time, or if she is going to turn into an absolute nightmare any day now.

Am sad that I can't make the meet ups. Could maybe make it into London in the new year, if anyone is up for it then?

CricketsMum · 16/11/2008 06:33

thanks fnf1 and Turtle... she had a much better night last night so am convinced it is chicken (other meat fine and chicken from a range - home cooked organic/in pre-prepared baby food - doesn't seem to make a difference so not sure it can be what chooks are fed on etc?? Hopefully she'll grow out of it, until then she can be chicken free!! At least she's not dairy intolerant. that would be much harder!

ff - sounds like your dog is on to something good! am v re the nights!! DD hasn't slept 12 hours in a stretch EVER!

HolidaysQueen · 16/11/2008 09:29

Maybe the tide is turning... After last week's marathon 8+ times per night, DS didn't wake once between 7.30pm and 7am last night . We normally wake him for a bottle at 11 but had friends round and didn't even think about it until 12.30, by which time we decided just to leave him. Not a murmur until 7...

I don't expect this to last given he has been pretty good at teasing us with good nights and then having a run of horrid ones. But it was nice while it lasted!

Got to pack for holiday today. It's very strange getting out baby shorts and suncream when his current wardrobe consists of babygros and woolly cardies!

fitnfortyone · 16/11/2008 21:11

argh, I'm so fed up with LO vomiting up after a slight cough He'd got through 81/2 oz bottle tonight and was settling nicely in my arms when it all came up again. So now I don't know if he'll need any more later which isn't good on a school night.

But on a more positive note (*I think!) we had the first attempts at crawling this weekend, commando style with rollovers when he got bored!

CricketsMum · 17/11/2008 09:51

i hate teeth.

merryberry · 17/11/2008 11:27

Ditto teeth. Also on sad vom front. Gg eats, makes him poo. Poo action makes him posset often. So meals can feel like vicious circle. Still on phone only here. Glam! Text me soon about sat night? Number in face book msg

turtle23 · 17/11/2008 14:26

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA why wont my child sleep? Cold+teeth+overtiredness have meant he has had a total of 56 minutes (that's with both sleeps) today. He is horrible. I can't take much more as he has been up since 5 am as well. Why oh why did they outlaw phenergan for babies.

HolidaysQueen · 17/11/2008 16:20

Many sympathies on teething/vomiting, having recently had both here.

Looks like DS may have dropped the 11pm feed - didn't feed again last night, although I was up with him at 2am and 5am for a cuddle as he's going through a phase of crying when he stirs and then upsetting himself Anyway this is his formula feed so it means that he is no longer mix fed but fully breastfed Well, apart from all the pasta and cheese and carrots and broccoli! It's really realy daft but I didn't want to give up breastfeeding until he had dropped that formula feed so that I could experience him being just breastfed before I then start to wean him onto formula. Stupid, huh? It doesn't even make sense to me!

JFly · 17/11/2008 19:37

I've added a whole load of you as friends on Facebook so I can invite you to the Wednesday meet-up that I've created as an event. I'm not sure that's acceptable sentence structure, but my brain is mush. For others not on Facebook, hop over to the meet-up thread.

HolidaysQueen · 17/11/2008 20:42

Thanks JFly - just been looking at your lovely photos of Griffin

I can't make Weds as I shall be sunning myself in Egypt . Well, I should be, but apparently their average of 3 days rain per year looks like it might hit this week Oh well. It can't be any worse than the miserable weather here today.

Off to finish packing. Hope you all have a good week

turtle23 · 17/11/2008 21:03

Jfly- Have FB'd EWE...hope she had a fab time in New York. (not at all !)
See some of you on Wednesday morning!

fitnfortyone · 17/11/2008 22:25

HQ sometimes I hate how you live up to your name

Have decided to do dreamfeed again tonight to make sure we get uninterrupted night's sleep.

Anyone else with LO's in nursery? We get a little notebook with updates each time on what E has eaten, what's come out the other end and how much milk he's had. Just struck me, I don't know if they offer him anything else to drink apart from milk? Don't think he's on g&ts yet, but water or juice would at least stop some dehydration!

FfreckleFface · 18/11/2008 00:15

I am on Facebook, but am not friends with any of you [sad and left out emoticon]. If anyone wants to add me (and please do) my name is whispers Hayley Buckley, and my profile pic is an orange clad little Ff cuddling a pumpkin.

CricketsMum, I know how lucky I am. My mother actually thinks that I am lying, and keeps asking me, 'But what is she REALLY like at night?'.

Gave her sprouts for the first time yesterday - they got thoroughly mushed up in her fists before being stuffed into her mouth, and she came back for more, so I am thinking they were a hit. Took her to the local garden centre today, and wandered around the Christmas displays with her. After her reaction tothe lights, I can't wait to put our decs up, but Bloke has vetoed it until our traditional 1st December decorations day, accompanied by Christmas film (usually National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation) and Bailey's (which I can drink this year, hoorah!)

What are you all buying for the babas? Little Ff's grandparents have already bought loads of toys/clothes/books etc, so Bloke and I were considering a 1st edition copy of A Christmas Carol, which we will put away and then give to her when she is older, telling her it was her first Christmas present. Does that seem mean?

turtle23 · 18/11/2008 05:23

ff-Have added you.
Ok, here goes my whining. I can't do this for much longer. I am so f*cking tired I am beginning to unravel. After the last two months of broken nights due to teeth, we had one really good night (ouch, it hurts so much worse)then he got this cold. He can't sleep at all as he's so bunged up, but did manage 4 hours last night on my chest at an improbable angle which meant that I have had NO sleep. (Sorry, 15 minutes.) He has been having about an hour during the day this week as he just wakes up bunged up and in pain (front two teeth through, hurrah! One more to go) and I look 112. DH won't help at all, the only friends I have who would help: one is having her IVF implant this week (soooo not going to ask), one has a two day old newborn, and one is away on hols. As I lie in bed this morning under snuffling DS I just cried. How am I going to get through today?
