Merrydown cider was drunk on park benches.
When I graduated to pubs I drank pernod and black, followed by a couple of diamond whites and a bag of chips. Followed by purple chunky sick usually.
Then alcopops were invented - two dogs lemonade, hooch, Moscow Mule.
I remembered another disgusting concoction called a kangaroo - half a lager, diamond white and a snowball, splash of blackcurrant to disguise the taste.

Now I am all grown up and drink wine, lovely wine And the only sick on my pyjamas is baby sick .
Having to get up for the kids has made me a complete lightweight in the drinking and hangover stakes!

smudge123 · 20/11/2008 20:37

gotta say who ever suggested Ben and Gerry for cats names, that is pretty cool!!!

I have a cat called Chaos she truly lives up to her name!

Jack has been a monster, he is permanently rolling from one side of the room to the other, and screaming if a table leg etc gets in the way! He banged his head into it earlier and made a growl noise at it!!! He even managed to follow me to the kitchen (which is diagonal from where i put him...How???!!!)
Thing is he gets so upset (really sobs) because he cant go forwards only side ways!!! He is trying like mad to crawl, but his leg and arm timings are all wrong!!!

Playpens are looking really attractive or as dh calls them baby cages!!!

smudge123 · 20/11/2008 20:38

i used to drink quite a bit and never got really drunk or had hang overs. Now 2 glasses of wine and im all over the place and feel like death the next day!!! Pathetic!!!

Mummywannabe · 21/11/2008 09:22

Hi all.

Sorry not been on again for ages. Max had gastro enteritus (SP?) and it was awful. Then sat he had purple rash down legs, didn't fade, i wa ssure he was ok but took trip to A&E anyway. He is fine.

Pigley - odd cause Max has decided night sleeping is a thing of the past too!

Have started to put him on hungry baby formula as he is just so hungry all the time. Really don't wanna wean him before 26 weeks so hoping this will hold it off.

disneystar · 21/11/2008 09:29

smudge when was jack born?
i cant believe hes rolling like that wow what a clever little boy
samuel still cant lift his head when on his tummy
was it jack thats eats food already to i cant remember?
its just samuel loves his food he prefers it to milk now
but ive been told as his heart is quite bad he gets very breathless drinking it required a lot of energy and he just cant be bothered so for him to eat food is simpler for him
but i am a bit concerned as even his morning bottle he just wont drink it he spits it out but will eat a bowl of ready brek
surely all is vitamins come from the milk so is this a good thing or not
boy im such a worrier
yesterday he ate half a banana in his mesh feeder what a mess he made but he loved it
the food isnt constipating him or giving him tummy ache so i guess hes ready

JODIEhadababy · 21/11/2008 09:32

Ahhh been up for ages! DS1 decided to wake up at 1.30, which woke Sam up, he went straight back off after a feed, then Sam woke again at 5.30 and didn't want to go back to sleep, so DS1, Sam and myself have been up since then. I'm shattered as I went out last night (not drinking , but didn't get to bet until after midnight )

Luckily PIL are on their way over to pick up DS1 so it's just me and Sam today, might do abit of shopping, my friend had a baby girl last week and I'm seeing them on Sunday, I can't wait! She was only 6lbs 7oz born, so she's tiny! I know I'll get broody though, this is getting rediculous...

I'm so broody at the minute, might have to re-read all the old anti-natal threads to remind myself how miserable I was. I even told my mum, MIl and best friend to shoot me down if i mentioned having another baby, which they are rejoicing in doing ATM...

Sorry for me post, will catch up with you all later, PIL just arrived

Mummywannabe · 21/11/2008 09:32

Sorry should add that only reason I wanna hold off weaning is i have an anaphylatic reaction to nuts and as they say early weaning can increase risk of allergies i wanna wait.

In my job as nursery nurse i have seen many many babies who just couldn't wait that long so i will have to wait and see.

disneystar · 21/11/2008 10:02

mwb awww poor little guy hope he is ok now and what a worry for you to

pigleychez · 21/11/2008 10:16

mummywannabe- Glad to see you back. Sympathes on the non sleeping.. Its a nightmare isnt it!
Glad Max is better now and the rash was ok.

Disney- Sounds like Sam enjoys his food.

Jodie I had one of those days yesterday. Was up since 4am! Amazed how I managed to surive the day especially as it was such a manic one.

Pretty good night here -bed at 8 then feed at 2!!! woo hoo! Then again at 5 and 7am.
6 hours is the longest stretch in weeks!

Off to town in a bit- make the most of all these shops doing 20% off then to my Danish friends house to find out what Danish cake tastes like!

JODIEhadababy · 21/11/2008 10:27

Right, DS1 safely off for a fun day with grandma and grandad,

mummywannabe Sorry to hear Max has been ill, it's scary and unsettling isn't it? Hope all is well now. How old is he now?

pigley, glad you had a 'good' night last night, have a good day shopping and eating cake (sounds like heaven!)

Disney your kitchen and dining room sound lovley, I wanted to do my Dining room in Plum and Gold, but it's quite open plan in the lounge and I couldn't work out how to 'draw the line' between the 2 rooms.

smudge123 · 21/11/2008 10:46

hi disney, yes jack is the one who loves his food! He was born 16th june, and not so much clever as really annoying!!
He was able to hold his head from birth, and has always been really strong. When he had colic for the first few months, we would sit him on our lap to wind him and he would stand and virtually support his own weight! Hv found it very amusing! he rolled over at a really early age then didnt do it for ages, now he seems to have remembered it and doesn't bloody stop!

I think he has an advantage on the rolling as he is VERY long/tall (98th centile). When he chucks one leg over his whole body follows with ease!!

With regards to Sam not drinking his milk as he gets tired-
My brother had pneumonia as a baby and it destroyed half of one lung, he would get exhausted feeding. Sucking really took it out of him and he preferred food as it was easier. Mum used to give him his milk off of a spoon in the morning to get his essentials in! He got stronger and was then able to suck again after a while. I know it may sound very tedious but if you are worried that he isn't getting his first feed of the day it might be an idea to try??

Jack is getting bored of bottles (it seems sucking is slowing down his intake of food), i cant wait till i can give him a beaker next month! When do babies grow out of the impatience during feeding? The spoon and i struggle to keep up with him!

sweetkitty · 21/11/2008 12:08

Bad night here think I was up about 3 or 4 times but she wouldn't go back to sleep got a runny nose too so think that was annoying her.

Smudge - Jack sounds a real cutie, B is the same rolling everywhere although she can only go one way and in one direction, I can't even change her nappy without her rolling she just loves being on her front

Mummywannabee - oh sorry to hear about Max being poorly hope he is all recovered now. I think the hungry milk will be fine until 26 weeks, just keep giving him more milk thats what they say isn't it? That the milk has a lot more calories than any food you could give.

Jodie - glad it's not just me my BF is now overdue and I know the minute I go visit her and her new baby I will be broody again, it must be some weird biological thing as I too had a miserable pregnancy as you all know, financially things are up in the air right now don't know if DP will have a job next year, the bank are doing cost cutting and restructuring everywhere.

DD2 never had a beaker she went straight onto the Tommee Tippee cups with the straw, those anyway up non leaking beakers are awful as you have to suck really hard to get anything out nevermind a baby doing it. The basic ones are supposed to be better. Messy though. I think the straws are from 9 or 12 months though but she picked up DD1's and away she went. We gave her milk in it too once she had stopped BFing.

Rant alert: in the past 3 days I have met 3 women that I haven't seen for ages and of course they are like "oh you had a new baby" "another girl?" and of course then you get "are you going to keep going until you get your boy then?" I mean how do you answer that "yes we were very disappointed when Bethany was born that she didn't have a penis and yes we are going to keep having these blasted girl babies until we get one with a penis" Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
disneystar · 21/11/2008 12:30

sweetkitty i get that with as i have 6 boys they always say oh bet you wanted a girl didnt you
what can you say to these people

jodie why dont you have your colours of plum and gold and follow it through to the lounge to accentuate the space and make a big airy colourfull room

bebejones · 21/11/2008 13:37

Wow you go away for a couple of days and suddenly there are 2 more pages to catch up on!!

What a lot of boozers we all are!! I too remember turbo shandies, DH is still a fan! Although they do something where they drink half of the turbo shandy then put a WKD blue in...sounds grim but isn't too bad!

Got SIL and her partner coming over for dinner 2moro...house is a state and DH says don't worry I will clean it Sat am (he invited them). Then the next day he says 'oh by the way am going to my dad's in the morning Saturday and the rugby is on so might stay and watch that'!!!! So what about cleaning the house? I am expected to do that, go to tesco, cook dinner for 4 and look after the baby am I?!?!?! GRRRRRRRR

Oh well, rant over! Can't think of any original cats names....did anyone say Romeo and Juliet? Think Romeo would be lovely for a cat, just sounds all purry when you say it!!

disneystar · 21/11/2008 13:49

smudge samuel is like that when he feeds he gets so excited to see the spoon and shakes with anticipation i literally have to shovel it in....
ive managed to get 4oz of milk down him today so far

TJuice · 21/11/2008 14:05

i gave elodie a beaker yesterday and she got the hang of it pretty quick. well, sort of - bit dribbly but sucking away.

but still not about to start on the solid food yet. will think about it after she has recovered from her op on tuesday . . .

she had a great sleep yesterday - 7pm to 6.40am. my dh had a tummy ache so he went to bed at 8 and i had some friends around for a girly dinner. was lovely, did some cooking (roasted red pepper and tomato soup, cheese and olive bread, polenta chicken and salad) but drank too much wine and have a bad head now
and supposed to be going out for a leaving do for tonight too . . .

smudge - i have a babydan "baby cage" but i niced it up a lot so its more of a "play area" with aoft toys and wall stickers and hanging things. elodie is nowhere near rolling/crawling yet though

pigley - nice sleep - going in the right direction now! i think your danish friend is right - there is loads more baby stuff to do in the uk but from an expat in copenhagen perspective there is a decent amount of things to do in english - baby swimming, baby yoga, baby massage, sing-a-long and music, monday playgroup and then loads of other expat mums groups apart from the one you get from your HV. I think the best thing though, is baby cinema - there is always something to see on wed, thu and friday mornings.

But it can be overwhelming and unnecessary too. Now she is more "interactive", I just want to hang out with my daughter - know what i mean?

Rumpel · 21/11/2008 15:42

Hi All,

Calvin slept all night, Calvin slept all night - OMG I can't believe it but Calvin slept ALL night Of course I woke up at 3.30am and lay there fretting and eventually got up to check him MINKUS and GILLY sending your terrible 2 sleepy vibes!!!xxx

PIGLEY - tell us about Danish cake - YUM I am such a cake monster

JODIE/SK - me too I said to DH last night that I am very broody again - and uber fertile at the mo'. My heart says I so want another baby, my head says - get real, you feel hellish through all pregnancy, your anxiety quadruples, I am still too fat, DH couldn't cope, I'd be vomituous again, I'd have 3 under 3!! Sheesh! Not too mention I am getting old. All you 40ish Mummies - how were you regarding increased risk of mc, DS etc when pregnant again? That's really what I am scared of. I just think we should maybe count our blessing and stop at 2 but part of me always wanted 3

I got fabby playpen off ebay - made in Germany - wooden with 8 pieces and it's huge but you can alter the size.

Calvin isn't mobile yet - he can roll from front to back - as he detests being on his tum but that's it. Poor wee soul has been really snotty and pukey the last few days due to a horrid cold.

DH's birthday today so I am required to dress up for relations

SK - My first local was the Aberlour, then I used to go to The Blair Lodge and Rios (Kilmeny) then it was Hot Gossip ( you too young to remember them?)I started going out at 15 - moved away by 18.

Rumpel · 21/11/2008 15:52

Me again - I just mean't to say that our HV was discussing weaning on Monday and she was recommending that all babies form 6 months to 5 years have vitamin drops every day as the cases of rickets has really gone up in the last few years. I bought my 2 Haliborange yesterday.

sweetkitty · 21/11/2008 17:07

disney - I forgot to ask how your DD is doing? When is she due now?

Rumpel - not the Aberlour I never got to go to Rios, I do believe the Blair Lodge is a chinese restaurant or something now. Not heard that about rickets but theres a lot of orange juice drank in this house. Am so a babies sleeping through the night I am so tired today I have another headache, I lay down on the sofa for half an hour needless to say I wasn't alonw for long.

I think I have told you all about my Mother and the fact she hasn't phoned me since July well she left a message on the answerphone asking if we were all OK and to call her, mmm thats going to be an interesting phonecall thing is now I don't bite my tongue anymore the oh she's your mother you should respect her went out the window a long time ago.

re. nasty booze concoctions, does anyone remember purple parachutes? Snakebite and black with a shot of pernod dropped into it . . .

bleurgh!

disneystar · 21/11/2008 18:58

sweetkitty i havnt spoke to my mom for over 3 years i cant stand the woman she is everything i will not be in a mom
about my dd shes due next weekend so anyday i guess they did a growth scan and said just over 5lb and it worried her but they are not always right are they

my mom knows about samuel my step sister told her and what was wrong her reply in a letter to me was keep that disabled mongel away from me
one example of why i despise her but tbh i hate her that much i really dont care about her
i wish things were different and mybe she was a different person ive never had a mom really and thats kinda sad as it means my dc will never have a granma
but i dont beat myself up over it i love my dc so does my dh they have all the love in the world they need
but sweetkitty i agree some mothers just dont deserve respect jsut because you give birth to a baby dont make you a good mom
raising your kids right and teaching and loving them and especially setting good examples makes you a good mom and they love you for that
end of sermon for today....
but even the subject of bad moms gets me pissed
on a lighter happier note just had a quote for my hall stairs and landing to be decorated and i was very pleased
dh doing the dining room as we speak and so far looking good

pigleychez · 21/11/2008 21:16

Hi everyone,

All this talking of decorating! I love decorating but as we intend to move after xmas theres no point till we move into our new place..Then i'll be in my element!

Tjuice- We were talking about the baby cinema today and saying that would be fab! Cant remember the last time I saw a film! I bet Abigail would love it as she loves the tele.

She has recently discovered the digital picture frame and thinks its hilarious watching the pictures change!

Rumpel- My Danish friend had made a couple of things. One was a banana cake(kinda like rectangluar slices) with a thick chocolate gooey topping. I hate bananas but was poilte and tried some and it was really yummy!
Another was little round coco balls coated in Coconut.
She said they usually only have them at xmas. They are nice too, like little sweets.

Had a fab time chatting and eating cake!

Disney- at your mums comments!

Think we have found a better way to get Abigail off to bed. A friend lent us a disney lullaby light show thingy. Abigail seems to like it and it seems to calm her down when upset. Trouble is the light show part tends to keep her awake more so I have used to record function on our monitor to record the winne the pooh tune from it. We play this when she goes off to sleep and its fab. Sends her off to sleep without the whining and bedtime is so much more relaxed for both her and us

disneystar · 21/11/2008 22:40

pigley thats probably a average things for her to say she is an evil witch who i swear isnt human she had 6 children and only 1 speaks to her many many grandchildren she doesnt care about
unless shes drunk then she gets all maudlin and cries boy shes pathetic
i dont want to come across as a revengefull horrible person here but shes a very sore subject here i have never taken or introduced my last 4 dc to her

isaidno · 22/11/2008 07:40

Rumpel - congrats on the all night sleep !!!
Disney - sounds like you are better off without your mother in your life.

DH had his snip yesterday; all went fine. I just have to try and be sympathetic and caring and not get annoyed cos he's in my way! I am not a very sympathetic person - make a terrible nurse!

Hope you're getting your cleaning done bebejones! have a nice evening xx

minipinkscottish · 22/11/2008 07:50

Rumpel... totally understand the broody thing...it never goes away with me and I have been feeling it this week. I would have more if I was younger and didn't have to work.... I would be scared of mc now that I am 40 and also of other complications of pg and also increased risk of downs syndrome etc....remember the scare I had with Abbie and the decision to have amnio or not...couldn't go through all that again....love my 6 to bits and am cherishing the baby time with Abbie.

Disney...so at your mum. I am totally blessed with mine..she is my best friend and a great mum and grandma
