Having a perfect moment - lying in bed, O is asleep beside me (having had a rough day - poorly baby), older 2 both asleep and I am eating Belgian chocolates DH got me for Christmas and drinking tea. Oh, and it's the weekend. Sometimes the little things make life worthwhile.

Bebe poor you, at least you've got a diagnosis now and can work on getting better. I hope you've given your DH a slap round the chops with a wet kipper for not believing you before!

SK like I said before, I've mixed purees and BLW without knowing that was what I was doing with the older two so I intend carrying on. That said, O has not greeted either of the vegetables I have offered here with any great enjoyment (squash and avocado). Might be silly, but I was wondering if it was the formula milk I used to make them that she objects too (she loves porridge, but I usually manage to express enough milk for that. Am pants at expressing, BTW, except when O was in SCBU).

Mmmm, that last choccie was a particularly delicious csppacino truffle, mmmmmmm

shortshafe · 09/01/2009 23:35

bebejones - glad you're back! Sounds like you've had a pants time though - hope you can get it sorted ((hugs)).

SK - I do more or less what you do - some puree's, but never forcing it in or 'just one more spoon' type of thing - nasty to watch in my opinion! And plenty of finger food - he enjoyed gumming a breadstick and some red pepper today - think most of the breadstick actually went in as he sucked it that hard!

Poledra - having my own special moment here, with a glass of baileys! Yummy. Hope O is feeling better.

My only concern at the mo is Isaac's milk intake - he has huugge boobie feed first thing, then 6 ozs formula with lunch, is offered formula at teatime but is currently not interested in it and refuses to take it ( have tried boobie but not interested in that either!), then moderate boobie before bed, then 6 ozs formula at 1030ish, which we're currently phasing out slowly. He also has water with his meals, but only has a few sips. Is the recommended daily minimum 20 ozs? My memory fails me....Does it sound like he gets enough? I think he probably does?! Have switched to formula in the day as am back to work in 10 days, so he'll be with my wonderful cm.

Morning all, very frosty here today but it makes it very beautiful. Going to go for a walk with DH and A with a pub lunch, should be fun.

Bebe - sorry to hear about the MS diagnosis but at least you have a name now and hopefully your DH will take a bit more notice.

SS - I am not a bf expert but if that's what Isaac wants and he has wet nappies then I wouldn't worry if I were you.

isaidno - if you didn't want to use sudocream then I would have thought vaseline would save his skin.

minnie - glad to hear your DH is ok. Is the car a right-off?

A went for a nap in his cot this morning - whoo-hoo - however that might have been because he had been up since 5am

sweetkitty · 10/01/2009 12:35

Unsettled night here well morning she was on and off boob shouting for a good hour

Took DD2 swimming whilst DD1 was at dancing this morning which was lovely just me and DD2 until it was time to come out and we had a mega tantrum.

Not got much planned for this afternoon, just going to chill in the warm.

shortshafe - I wouldn't worry too much about the milk, 20ozs just a rough guide some will take more some less, I also think a 5-6 month old BF baby will be an expert at getting milk out fast, I know the pump can get 6ozs in 10mins and I believe a baby is must better than a pump so if he's taking 7-8ozs in the morning, 6ozs of formula, maybe 4-5ozs BF, then 6ozs at 10.30ish thats easy what 25ozs plus so you see he probably is getting more than enough. If you are phasing out his dreamfeed you will find he will make it up at other feeds.

With B being EBF I haven't a clue what she takes, she has feeds at 7am, 10.30am, 2pm, 4.30pm, 8pm in that I offer her one, then boob whenever she wants it ib the night (2-5 times) I do ration the day feeds though, I let her suck for about 20mins max now, I figure thats time for a good feed anything longer is comfort sucking, also if she fussing and bobbing on and off I fugure she's not that hungry. Nothing set in stone though. She has 2 small meals a day too.

Her times fit around everything else going too, be intesting to hear everyones elses routines or lack of.

isaidno _ I would love to say to a HV when they ask the weaning question, no I didn't know they are suppose to get actual food!

Best be off have a good Saturday all xxx

Hi All,

Phew - trying to catch up is

BEBE - It did cross my mind that might be what you had but it is quite rare, although Scotland has quite high rates for some reason. Fingers x no more attacks. Oooowww to your lumbar puncture Hope you feel better soon. hugs

Been really busy here. Calvin has me up and down like a yo-yo at night too - not liking his own room Resorted to bringing him into bed with us in the wee small hours. He has rotten cold and is snuffuffling like mad. He loves his grub now and wolfs it down I have given him some finger food too and he enjoys it - Such a difference form DD as I was terrified to give her anythign she might choke on. His hand, eye, mouth co-ordination is much better than hers for his age though.

Got our fish tank on Thursday so bought the accoutrements and set it all up last night, need to give it 2 weeks to settle before we buy the first lot of fish though.

Don't know if you recall that I had been on netmums but I have ended up volunteering to be the Chairmum for the Stirling/Falkirk area. It means that I am organising the meet-ups and trying to ensure that everyone feels safe and included

DH started Uni this week too -so it has been a bit hectic here.

Anway must be off - blowing a hoolie here today and pouring. Time to snuggle in with some red and a steak - I am such a fat pie at the mo' but it is so hard to fuction when you are perpetually tired

Calvin had his first day at nursery on Wednesday and was fine - smiling away at everyone

take care all
xxxxx

Rumpel · 10/01/2009 18:44

Hi Disney - good to hear you are all well.xxx

MinnieMummy · 10/01/2009 19:51

Hey Disney! Sounds like you've been having a busy time...! Much poop here too as despite reassurances that only a 'tiny' amount of the antibiotics I'm taking would make it through the breastmilk, we've had at least 4 dirty nappies today and one in the middle of last night (like having a newborn again!).

Bebe you sound remarkably positive, sorry to repeat everyone else's comments but now you will get the right treatment and support. Please keep us posted.

No news on the car front, I think it will take them a week or so to assess it etc. It could be potentially written off, it wasn't a massive amount of damage but it's a second-hand car so it doesn't take much. We'll see..

Had a potential breakthrough on the BLW front here... feeding P is a messy affair at best of times, she gets so excited she waves both arms manically, often batting the (full) spoon etc and today I was reading in the BLW book about all the downsides of spoon-feeding (sidebar - honestly, if it were as bad as they say, surely the entire adult population of the western world would be allergy-ridden picky eaters with food issues?!! Oh wait, maybe we are ) BUT on the other hand she definitely is ready for food - she practically leans right out of her bumbo with her mouth wide open when she sees food - so my compromise was to put the baby porridge onto my finger and then letting her lick it off. Still messy but not as bad and definitely a lot less being pushed out. This could be the way forward! Fingers wiped and then crossed!

Mummywannabe · 10/01/2009 21:03

Hi all. Sorry not been on for ages again!

Well Max had bad bronchiolitis 3 weeks ago. He still sounds ever so wheezy, feeding ok (well not bad but always been a bugger to feed!) and happy though. Saw doctor last week (again) who said it could persist for a week more and could use alupent syrup or inhalers if i felt he needed them. My question is does anyone have experience of how long this lasts? And should i give syrup even though he is happy?

I am driving myself mad with worry and any support will be gratefully recieved.

Little bugger now waking throughout the night, thinking its hunger but delayed weaning whilst he was so poorly, he had first taste of solids today and loved it!

Momma23 · 10/01/2009 23:02

Hi Ladies,
Its been a while....

DD is pooping like crazy!! before a feed and after!! She has gone back to having a feed at night and pooping!! She also has bad nappie rash from all the pooping. Went to the doc and she was so unhelpfull, just a waste of money. They just tell you what you already know. We also have a tooth.... I was so excited and DP didnt even bat a eye lid..

Mummywannabe
Sorry dont know much on the bronchiolitis, DD3 did have a horrible cough at about 6 weeks so hard to shift it. Your not the only mummy on the late nights i am having them here too..

purplejennyrose · 10/01/2009 23:07

shortshafe - when I went back to work after dd1 she was 5 months and she went on to bottles of formula in the day and bf morning, bedtime and if she woke inb night. She would only every have really small bottles - way under daily minimum - but I remember the paediatrician (she had severe reflux) saying that she'd be getting loads from me morning and night and not to worry.

I read somewhere that the average bf is around 3 oz and this stays fairly constant whatever age the baby (dunno how they worked tht out tho!) so you can see why a nixed-fed baby might not want bigger bottles...They'll take what they want and need IMO!

hi everyone else...

purplejennyrose · 10/01/2009 23:11

my typing has gone to pot...! night all!

shortshafe · 11/01/2009 00:11

thanks ladies - I feel reassured and will stop faffing about it, interesting stuff PJR - he certainly takes his time over bf for breakfast and supper !

mummywannabe - dd had bronchiolitis when she was about 4 months old, it took her about 6 weeks to fully recover, we used the syrup only when she seemed to need it, and before bed. Good news is - she's now 2.3 and like the duracell bunny - nothing stops her! My lovely GP always says that as long as they are feeding and generally chirpy then they'll get better in time.

It is horrible when they're poorly though, hugs for all of you.

Disney - good to see you on here again.

MinnieMummy · 11/01/2009 13:33

I thought of a title for the next thread - only a suggestion, but what about 'Lots of babbling and some BLW'??!

pigleychez · 11/01/2009 14:02

bebe- Sorry to hear you have MS, but at least now they can treat it and its good news that you may not ever have another attack.

Isaidno- I too think ill hold off telling the midwife about BLW unless she asks more as from overhearing others conversations about weaning, she sounds very much a puree person.

On the BLW we have begun a tiny bit. Abigail is 24 weeks and this week has begun to attempt swiping things from your plate so i think as shes interested now then why waste the opportunity and its only a few weeks off 26 and nothing will get eaten anyway.

At lunch today she was going for my cheese on toast so tried a crust of that..Only the odd lick but the faces are a classic!

Yesterday we went out for dinner- First time with just the 3 of us. She was a star and sat so nicely playing on the sofa next to me in the booth. Proud mummy!
Abigail enjoyed a lick of the orange slice from my drink and tasting the bbq sauce off my fingers- She seemed to really like it!
Will be giving her some veg from the roast dinner today too.

Past 2 nights Abigail has had a bottle of hungry baby milk before bed. Taken to whole bottle of 7ozs which is unheard of for her, but still woke 2 hours later! Crazy.
After some water and lots of back and forth re settling she went back off for another 3 hours. Last night she woke after 3 hours and would not go back off with water and pats ect so I cant say the new milk is a great sucess
Think im just destined to be awake half the night!

Rumpel- Im a netmums addict and have met so many local mummies through there. Theres a couple I see every week now

Speaking of Meets.. Im meeting up with SarahPo who posts on here occasionally on Thursday for a coffee.

Disney- Glad you and Sam are doing well. Bet you cant wait for your holiday!

Mummywannabe- Sorry to hear about poor little Max, Hope hes back to 100% soon.

Another thread suggestion- Food, Glorious food!

Momma23 · 11/01/2009 14:41

Pigley
I walk around the house all hours thinking i am hearing one of them crying!! So i can be up 3-6 times to them and 2-3 time thinking that it is them... Shattered i am.
I love the faces they pull when they try something new.

Rough night last night with DD1 and 2, and DP going out for a few pints (which i dont mind) but didnt come home till 6am!!!! he is now asleep and is sleeping quiet happily even though i have told the girls they can make lot and lots of noise!!!! Not a happy mummy!!!

DD3 is fitting into 6-9 months cloths with not alot if room in them, she is also in some 9-12.. I think all the cloths sizes are messed up and differ from shop to shop. Any one eles find this?

Dinner on lovely roast chicken, smells all over the house (love that) DP can bugger of if he thinks he is getting any.... and he loves a roast dinner....

pigleychez · 11/01/2009 14:49

momma23-
I too find different shops have different sizes. Abigail is still in alot of 0-3 clothes and even still fits in a couple of her up to 1mth babygrows! Go figure!

I bought lots of 6-9 tops in the Next sale but in hindsight should have bought some 3-6as well as I find Next sizing quite big so prob wont wear them till nearer 9 months.

ponto · 11/01/2009 16:29

I find that in general, if something has a label 3-6 months, it will be the right size for my 6 month old, but 6-9 months will probably be too big until she's 9 months. So Bryony's just fitting nicely into her 3-6 month stuff now (and I've packed up her 0-3 month clothes to give away ). I suppose it depends which growth chart centile your baby's on, there's a surprisingly large difference between my friend's baby and mine despite hers being only 2 weeks older - she's been in 6-9 month clothes for a while.
