HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

Well, I didn't say at the time, but I always planned to return to my favourite and most appropriate nickname, but I told myslef I wouldn't do it until I felt I was 'over' the PND. I stopped taking my herbal tabs 2 weeks ago (only took them for 3 weeks). Obviously the CM issue having been sorted has made a huge difference, but I genuinely feel back to my old self, and I love it! I know I am very lucky as my PND was fairly short-lived, I think it was about 4 months in total, but I feel amazing now and I want to be luckymummy again .

(Promise not to keep name-changing this year, I'm sure it was very annoying....soz !)

New Year was OK here, DH at work 7pm til 7am, but SB was here. We ate cheese and biscuits and drank red wine and chatted. He hasn't heard from the evil ex since Saturday, so we're hoping he may have finally got the hint, but it seems to good to be true, SB worried it may be the calm before the storm. We think the fact he didn't even text at new year is a good sign??

Having a chilled out day at home.

Welcome to the new people, deemented, my DD2 was born 30th April so one day older than your DD!!
Welcome fairiemoo too. This is a lovely friendly threadm we call ourselves the FMLs....friendly May ladies!

I think after that Moldies thing, I have decided to just post on this MN thread from now on. I don't need all that bullying and schoolgirls spats in my life (not that I was involved in the Moldies thing at all BTW).

What did you all do last night??

LM xxxxxx

(loving being LM74 again )

monkeysmama · 01/01/2009 13:42

Hello ladies & Happy New Year!

We had a fantastic Christmas & NY - just us 3 for Christmas, a few visits & days out in the following days. We spent last night at friends-shared the cooking & had great fun. Dd woke up at 1030 & stayed up with the adults until 3

I feel a bit sad today. A close friend of mine lost her son at 2 days old 2 years ago & days ago her sister's 8 year old died suddenly. My heart hurts thinking about them

Welcome to the new girls! We're doing blw too & she's loving it-the more garlic and herbs the better! Breast feeding still too & cosleeping- or co not sleeping .

Off for a walk now.

Hoping this year brings you all lots to laugh about.

Glad things are looking up LM.
MM

luckymummy74 · 01/01/2009 14:00

MM and ((((hugs)))) to your poor friend. I can't imagine anything worse .

Haribosmummy · 01/01/2009 14:57

OK, I promise, No more namechanges from me either... This one is here to stay (It's TSS but I decided to be less serious in 2009 )

MM - Hugs from me too. She and her whole family must be devastated.

LM - You do sound back to your old self!! Here's to a happy 2009!!!

Mitchell - I can relate to losing neccessary parts!! I bought a Quinny Zapp, but now can't find the right bits to make it into the pushchair (have been using it with the car seat so far!)

I'm going to bite the bullet with car seats and get DS a forward facing one when we get back from holidays (we are going at the end of January) cos he's really too big for the maxi cosy cabriofix one he has now... And as a surprise treat, we are off skiing this Saturday too - just DS and DSD2 as DSD1 is going with her school, but really looking forward to it. It will be the first time DS has been on a plane!!

I had a really quiet NYE - DSD1 went out with friends and DSD2 had other friends over so DH spent most of the night playing shoot em up games with the kids... I went to bed at 10:30!!! How sad and boring!!

Welcome to Fairemoo too!!!

santacolada - just been looking at your photos on FB - HOW many pressies did you guys get???? my DSDs would have been SOOOO jealous if they'd seen that!!!

HM (Gosh, it feels rather nice not to be so serious anymore!!! )

luckymummy74 · 01/01/2009 17:37

Hi HM. Like the new name and think good on you for being less serious...not that I ever thought you were very serious in a bad way??!! .

LM xxx

Deemented · 01/01/2009 21:15

Hey FM - yep 8 months already!!! Just flown, ain't it? Am sooo with you on the co-sleeping 3 in a bed thing!! I hate co sleeping too - just can't relax properly, and i loves me bed, i do.

B is not quite sitting up yet - not far off, but has mastered the commando crawl, and is away as soon as i put her down! She has her four front teeth now and loves to bite big chunks of food - and occasionally big chunks of me too

Mitchell81 · 01/01/2009 21:30

Haribo Like the new name well chosen
We moved DS2 out of his maxi cosi and he is so much happier in the forward facing seat. We have a Maxi cosi Tobi, very good as it holds the seat straps so you never have to search for them under neath the child (iykwim) Hope you find your pram adapters.

LM So happy for you, you do sound like your usual happy self.

Just back from a new years day party at wealthy friends. Been drinking Moet all day, I must say it is the only champagne/cava that I can drink without mixing orange juice. It was very nice. They also did a fireworks display which DD and Ds1 loved.

MM Sorry about your friend, what a horrible time they must be going through.

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 21:33

Commando crawling already? Sheesh. I am dreading the day Lola becomes mobile, what with Daisy's toys all seeming to consist of teeny tiny un-baby-friendly little pieces. She barely gets on the floor as it is, I think crawling will be a way off yet LOL.
I know how you feel about the chunks, Lola cut her 4th tooth yesterday - that's all 4 front ones in exactly one month! Daisy didn't even have one by this age!

How was Xmas? I hope it was as nice as it could have been given the circumstances and that B and B had fun and were suitably spoilt (in both gifts and love). I'm hoping the new house spells the start of all the brilliant things you guys deserve this year.

[/fluff] shhhh!

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 21:34

Mitchell - how old is your DS2?

Am I going to open a huge can of worms here by asking why you have moved him into a forward facing car seat already?

Mitchell81 · 01/01/2009 21:39

Faeriemoo He is 12kgs. Nearly 8 months and this carseat can be used from 9kgs.

Deemented · 01/01/2009 21:47

Think the best that can be said about Xmas/NY was that they went. All over and done with now, thank feck. TBH, it's been bloody awful, but don't like to say too much over there as i'm sure people get pissed off with me moaning all the time. What about your Xmas? Did D and L have a good time?

As for the new house - phew.. it's hard bloody graft, let me tell you!!! Cynic's coming tomorrow with her other half to give me a hand, so we should be able to crack on a bit - every time i lift a paintbrush or climb a ladder B starts screaming!!!

faeriemoo · 01/01/2009 21:49

Have you done any research into the risks of forward facing at such an early age?

www.carseat.org/Resources/FAQs.htm#rearfacing

You do get rear facing carseats that cater for a heavier baby. Just because he can be forward facing at his weight doesn't mean he should

Mitchell81 · 01/01/2009 21:52

Thanks faeriemoo

macaco · 02/01/2009 08:48

I don't think I can have a RF car seat as my car is teeny, I don't think it would fit. I think I'll look for the safest FF seat I can find.

macaco · 02/01/2009 08:49

Hope everyone had a good Xmas and Ny byt the way. Welcome fairemoo and deemented!
DS is now crawling!!!!!!

------

You can look for the safest FF seat you can find but the fact is that if you are in an accident your child's neck and back are not supported and at their young and fragile age is likely to snap like a twig. Sorry if that is too graphic and blunt, but it's infant safety we are talking about and possibly lives.

Why would your car fit a FF seat but not a rear facing one? What car do you have? Do you have a Halford's near you, they do car seat fitting and will know what will fit your car. IIRC fire station staff are also trained in fitting car seats, as are many police officers.

Deemented - glad Beth is coming to help you, you know I'd pitch in if we didn't live in different countries LOL. Can't wait to see the 'after' photos.
And do not for a second think anyone is fed up of you. You and the kids have been through absolute hell this past year and we are all there for you, through every tear and giggle, if you want us too. x

macaco - thanks for the welcome. Can't believe some of the May babies are crwaling already, that just terrifies me for when Lola decides to start. eeek!

IndigoBlue · 02/01/2009 14:20

Hi

Well i've finally found time to catch up on here.

Mitchell - sounds like you had a good time on new year, we didn't really do anything much.

Monkeysmama - sorry to hear about your friend, can't imagine how hard that must be for them.

Haribo - like the new name, have a great time skiing!

Pina - hope dd2's finger is better now.

LM74 - glad you're feeling better now, and back to lucky again.

faeriemoo - welcome, i'm sure you're trying to be helpful but pulling people up on what car seat they've chosen and telling them that their baby's neck is likely to snap is probably going to get people's back's up a bit.

Well ds is sitting fairly well now, although still a bit wobbly, he's just started pulling himself into crawling position so probably won't be long before he's getting around.

He still wakes in the night occasionally, maybe when he's having a growth spurt or something, other than that i can't complain really!

macaco · 02/01/2009 15:50

I have C1, an FF would fit but the issue with RF would be that it would need to sit back far enough to make room for babies legs.
I don't live near a Halfords as I live in Spain and I've actually never seen a RF carseat here. I'll look into it further.

thefortbuilder · 02/01/2009 16:02

sorry if I'm sounding a bit blunt here as well faeriemoo but I'm with indigo on this one - if you look a bit further back on one of our AN threads you'll see a pretty long conversation on exactly this topic. I realise you weren't to know that only having just joined us but you might want to consider how you phrase things next time.

MM your poor friend sorry i'm a few days late with my good wishes though.

HM cool new name - when are you off skiing?

We are off to NZ in late jan and back mid Feb when hopefully it will be getting a bit warmer! went to the zoo today and just about froze my fingers off - ds1 and ds2 both loved it though!

thefortbuilder · 02/01/2009 16:11

sorry that's post natal threads, but you get my meaning I'm sure.

macaco · 02/01/2009 16:19

yes, I did think that was a bit blunt to be honest.
Obviously I appreciate that RF is much safer but I am having trouble finding ANY rear facing seats here in Spain at all and was also told that RF don't fit in all cars. I can't find either the Britax 1st class (to complicate it further Britax is Romer here) and the Maxi Cosi Mobi (RF) doesn't exist here either.
So if I can't get (no, not even online) a RF seat I'll have to get a FF one, those are my options. I don't need a guilt trip on top of all that thanks.
Anyway..hope everyone had a great New Year. It's been really wet and miserable here. Went into town today to get the PILs presents (presents are given on the 6th here...Epiphany) and town was HEAVING and everyone had umbrellas and bags, it was like na assault course!
Have you been watching the Worzel thread about the woman whose waters went at 22+4? She's had a little boy and he's breathing on his own! Great New Year story.

Haribosmummy · 02/01/2009 17:30

Well, I got into a huge fight about this on MN (Car seats in general) and my take on it is as long as it's legal, then it's OK.

I'm going to move DS, because I believe he'll be happier forward facing. He hates his rear facing car seat and is hating it more and more each day as he gets bigger.

I know not every one agrees with this, but I have actually had to stop on more than one occasion (twice on a hard shoulder) because he is SOOOOOO beside himself that I didn't feel it safe to continue driving. He's better with one of those mirrors, but should it slip while we are moving, or he gets sick or something, that's it, he's off.

I have been through the ringer on this one, so I'm sticking my neck out to even mention it here (and wouldn't, if it hadn't been raised by someone else) but I feel the overall safety of my baby is better in a FF seat than a rear facing one when he is kicking off to such an extent that I am distracted and have had to take him OUT of his car seat to settle him...

ANyway, going to leave that there...

Not much else to say really... Dh's ex being a pain... Nothing new there! DSD2 is back here tonight and DSD2 is going skiing with her school on Sunday.

We're off first thing tomorrow (fingers crossed DS enjoys the flight - it's going to be bloody cold in resort!!)

HM xx

Mitchell81 · 02/01/2009 18:29

I also agree with Haribo, macaco, indigo and flick. Fine to have an opinion but don't say we are putting our child/children at risk. There is enough feeling of guilt being a parent net alone someone telling you that your babies neck will snap like a twig.

Haribo Enjoy your holiday, I hope you get to have a break.

Macaco sounds like UK weather Yes read the worzel thread, amazing

Flick Jealous of your holiday to the sun

Indigo Sounds like it won't be long before DS is crawling

We have taken down our tree and decorations today and it makes the room look so much bigger. You have managed to find homes for all the new gifts so the lounge no longer looks like a bomb has hit.

macaco · 02/01/2009 18:40

haribosmummy same thing happening here, DS is NOT liking RF atm. He acts like he's tired but I think it's boredom, frustration as he's fine once we get out. I took the sunshades off the windows in the back and he seemed a bit happier that he could see out the windows. I'm going to keep him in the infant carrier as long as I can but he's very nearly out of it (his head's nearly at the top) and he's a good 10 kilos now. I'm researching it so I can buy one quite soon as (as I thought) it's taking me ages to work out what to buy. I think the maxi cosi priofix is my best option as there really isn't anything RF in Spain and the Maxi cosi is ranked the safest for FF.

macaco · 02/01/2009 18:44

OOOH Haribosmummy, have a fabulous time skiing! Very jealous!
