Fuzzy, I have a boy, Theo, and a girl, Esther. They are amazing . I found that mixing everything with milk and baby rice made purees go down well at first. Now they love sweet potato and butternut squash. Esther is still not keen on finger food, but Theo does very well (they are 8mo tomorrow!)

No real progress on car seats yet but the maxi cosi cabrio can be used up to 13kg so no rush yet. Someone on MN recommended Sunshine Kids Rodial which are slim and RF as well but they are not approved for European market. Cathy from Essex Road Safety (someone on MN put me on to her) is going to research it for me and let me know tomorrow. How good is that?

Deemented, do you mind saying where in Lancs? I am from near Rochdale.

monkeysmama · 05/01/2009 12:27

Hi ladies

Nope - I am a Londoner, indeed a Cockney. We use the term minnie here too although when I was growing up we referred to our "tuck" (kind of makes sense) or "doris"?? I genuinely remember being a tad traumatised at school when they said we were going to open a Tuck Shop & smirking with my sisters when we met a German woman called Doris. I read about what to call it to dd & there is a lot of advice about avoiding silly names but "vagina" sounded way to medical and I like the word minnie.

I am feeling ! We finally ordered dd a highchair - she's been eating in her Bumbo with the tray on it. We ordered with mothercare on line last week and paid for their rpemimum next day delivery. I knew it'd take a day or so longer over Christmas but even they estimated a 2nd Jan delivery at the latest and it only arrived today. That would be okay if it was the highchair and other things we've ordered. Instead something in a half ripped box has arrived and I am not happy. I've just called them & they've said they can't do anything until tomorrow when they'll deliver a new one and collect the wrong one but it could be any time between 8 and 6pm! I am an angry monkey!

Meant to say thanks for the nappy rash posts. It looked a bit better this morning but seems to have flared up again. She's just had a nicebath & seems happier having some nappy off time!

luckymummy74 · 05/01/2009 14:18

MM Both my DDs have had the nappy rash you are describing. It might be worth a trip to the HVs as we got DD2 weighed once when hers was bad, and HV noticed and said it was thrush and prescribed daktarin cream which cleared it up within 24 hrs.
Also, I have used metanium but it does say on the tube/box to only spread very thinly and that you should be able to see skin still underneath, it has to be that thin, IYSWIM. I save the 'lashing it on' for Sudocrem.

DD1 loved playgroup. A few 'missing mummy' tears but they said she was very good at drawing, esp circles and faces, and very polite and very clear with her talking and expressing herself. I said "oh good, she has done me proud then?!" and they said "oh defintiely, she's just lovely" [very proud mummy].

DD1 has done nothing but giggle all morning...it's the cutest thing.

Wonder how haribo's trip is going? .

Oh, and we have a few inches of snow....anyone else?

luckymummy74 · 05/01/2009 14:23

That's DD2 giggling, not DD1.

fuzzypeach Commando crawling is the sort of dragging themselves along on their belly crawl, like the commando soldiers do under the netting.....like this
or this

IndigoBlue · 05/01/2009 17:23

Thanks fuzzypeach that's nice of you to say that about my dd. I'm of you trying for another baby, I'm feeling stupidly broody already but it's probably going to be the end of next year before dh will consider trying for no. 3.

Deemented · 05/01/2009 23:05

neenztwinz · 06/01/2009 09:07

No way Deemented, I'm from Whitworth. I went to BRGS too (for sixth form). [wondering whether me and Deemented know each other]

I am feeling broody too but have decided to wait until after next Chrsitmas to start trying again (it's crap being PG at Christmas!)

Deemented · 06/01/2009 09:11

LOL - small world! I went to All Saints, but moved to Welshy Wales when i was 13. I still have lots of family living in the valley though, and go up to visit as often as i can.

monkeysmama · 06/01/2009 14:04

LM - thanks for the nappy rash advice. I am going to take her to the HV tomorrow to be weighed anyway (we've not been for 4 months!) It is still sore and she's crying her pain cry whenever I change her bum. Sods Law that she's done four poos today (she is usually a one every 2 days girl). Are my posts getting a bit TMI? Yesterday minnies, today poos!

I am now the proud owner of 3 highchairs! Mothercare seem happy to bombard me with deliveries so I have a room full of boxes and though we now have the right highchair we don't have the right accessories. I spoke to them a few hous ago & the poor girl said she couldn't tell me what to do because she didn't know what was happening and they have no record of all the deliveries...? I got a bit angry which is so not me - mainly because after saying I'd have to wait until today to get it they then delivered it to my neighbour yesterday afternoon. My neighbour is a bit odd and texted me to say she had some parcels and would I get them as soon as possible. I went over this morning but it meant getting dd dressed and wrapped up (it is freezing!) A minor event in many ways but one of those things that takes 2 seconds as an adult but twenty minutes with a bubble in tow.

I spent a lot of Sunday cooking special meals with no salt etc for us to eat with dd (we're BLW). I love cooking but thought I'd try some suggestions from the BLW website. I made a broccoli, pasta and salmon bake yesterday and for the first time since she started on solids she wouldn't eat anything! Then for lunch I just gave her some of the vegetable rostis I spent ages grating veg for & she turned her nose up. Little monkey. She's having a nap but emptied both my boobs before falling asleep so she is hungry - just not impressed with my new recipes.

Are any other FMLs still exclusively breast feeding (aside from solids)? I have a question but don't want to start a war by posting elsewhere!

Hope you're all having good days and enjoying the sunshine (& freezing cold!) No snow here sadly - I LOVE the snow when it first falls though in London it turns to black sludgy ice pretty quick

neenztwinz · 06/01/2009 14:36

MM, I am still BFing the twins, tho I do add formula to their food sometimes and use it to make porridge. Does that count?

I think I would have just left the DTs here if I'd gone to a neighbour's to get something (depends how far away tho). I have been known to go to the shop across the road during their naps! Getting twins sorted to go anywhere is a nightmare .

Deemented, yes, small world!

gingerwench · 06/01/2009 16:38

Hello and Happy New Year!

Another one still BFing but DS is not quite 7 months yet (he was due end May and came late). BLW was going well but then a virus over Christmas put him off food completely and we are only just getting back to where we were.

DS can roll both B to F and F to B now but generally chooses not to! He sits well, loves his bouncer and likes practising his standing by holding on to my legs or hands. He can pull himself from the floor to a sitting position if I hold out my fingers for him to grab. He's certainly better at sit-ups

He's regressed in terms of night-time feeds which is making me v tired.

Also I've signed up for the Edinburgh Moonwalk. Let's hope that the training helps shift the baby weight! You have to tell them your bra size when you sign up and don't get the option to change it but I haven't a clue how BFing and reducing BFing and all the extra walking will change my size! I just had to guess and hope for the best. May need some padding!!

Glad you are feeling better LM and welcome to the newbies.

Mocat · 06/01/2009 19:23

Still BFing DS here when I'm not at work. He takes two formula bottles during working hours but seems to save up his milk consumption for late afternoon, evening, night time and sometimes during the night!!! He is taking about 5 feeds plus his solids. He only takes about 2 ounces of formula at a go. He is eight months old. He had been sleeping through for months and months but got sick over Christmas and hasn't settled back. Teething (4 in four weeks), missing his mum and dad now we are back at work, just a stage, who knows?

Hello to all the new ladies and all the 'old' ones too .

luckymummy74 · 06/01/2009 19:25

I have a lot of respect for any of you still BF. I stopped at 5 months, it was right for me to do at the time, I don't regret it, I know I couldn't have done any longer, but now, esp as DD2 so big now, I just couldn't imagine still BF. It seems like ages ago. I have to say, I don't miss it .

MM I hope DDs bum clears up soon, I hate that pain cry when you change their bum. You feel so cruel, but you have to clean them up! My DDs have been like this too when they are teething.

I'm cream crackered so off to the sofa for the night.....

faeriemoo · 07/01/2009 00:14

monkeysmama I'm still breastfeeding at almost 7.5 months. Well, she'll have one cup of formula every two weeks or so if she is with DH and I haven't got any milk in the freezer. She weighed in today at 20lbs 2ozs so must be doing something right

jinglebaiyu · 07/01/2009 12:23

Happy New Year!
Welcome to newbies, hello to all the FMLs!

haribo great new name! I'm sure we used to be FB friends, glad we are again. My DP isn't a prof photographer but trying to be. Very very jealous of your ski trip, I've only ever skiied in Scotland, not so glam!

LM glad to see the old name back! We knew it was there underneath!

I've just signed up to do the Edinburgh moonwalk too! gingerwench and I are going trainer shopping soon then I'll get going. Quite excited. Anyone else want to join us?

We're having big sleep issues here, many many hours to settle DS and he refused to crash out til nearly midnight every night despite his body being knackered. I cooked a lovely meal last night, steaks and all...not so romantic after it all had to sit in a low oven for 2 hours before we managed to eat. Not impressed.

I'm still BFing mostly but in the lasts fortnight have started giving him 2 formula feeds a day. It's made a big difference. DS was always so distracted feeding during the day, constantly on and off and we just both ended up soaked and hungry! I feed him in the morning and at night and usually 1-2 times during the day but I feel so liberated now I've made my peace with formula! He's loves it and is happy and healthy so all's well (apart from the sleep) Routine routine routine is what we're aiming for but slept in til 10 today so it's all a bit ruined.

Hope you're all well

jinglebaiyu · 07/01/2009 12:24

Hmm...need a new name!

baiyu · 07/01/2009 12:45

Oh, how did I miss that? fuzzypeach That's brilliant that you've decided to have another! I'm planning on starting to persuade DP in the Summer and maybe start trying in Autumn . I've come off my pill and just using condoms as I'd like my body to have a chance to be normal and natural for a bit! Didn't have get to do that last time (got PG on the pill...) Anyway, congrats! I know someone trying now with a LO same age as all of ours, brave lady!

Mitchell81 · 07/01/2009 12:47

Hello everyone, sorry no personal messages as in a rush today.
Just wanted to let you know how our sleeping is going as you know we were also having problems with Ds2 who kept waking up.
Well he is now sleeping in his own room and goes into his cot awake as is self settling. ( I always had to rock him to sleep or pat him etc) So a huge break through.
He also goes to sleep in his cot during the day and settles himself.
I never thought any of my children would be able to do that.
He goes to bed as 7pm with a bottle and then if I leave him he wakes between 12pm and 1am, but is also waking at 3/4am for another full bottle.
But last night I gave him a dream feed at 11pm, but he still woke at 4am. And then he wakes at 7am for the day.
Any suggestions other than watering down the 4am bottle? He is on 3 meals a day.

But I am still very happy with him as waking up much less.

DS1 also started playgroup yesterday and was very happy to go play. So very proud mummy.

Mitchell81 · 07/01/2009 12:49

All this talk about trying for another baby makes me very

Deemented · 07/01/2009 13:42

I'm still BF B at nearly 8 and a half months - i can't imagine stopping anytime soon either - i guess i'll let her decide. Though it is a PITA when she refuses to take EBM from a bottle, so i can't really leave her with anyone. She won't take it from a doidy or a spoon or a syringe either. Gotta be from Mammy - got taste, my gal has

My boy was bottle fed EBM for 6 months - he was 12 weeks prem - and then went onto enriched formula.

And as for planning another baby already.... Are you mad????
