New thread as it's Nov so our babies are all hitting 6 months!

faeriemoo sorry, but I am with the others, I know you were probably trying to help, but probably not the best way to get yourself known on a new thread.
I'm sure everyone is aware that in an ideal world RF car seat is best as long as possible, but sometimes other factors have to be taken into account. I moved my DD1 into a FF seat (same as yours mitchell, the maxi cosi tobi) at 9 months, she had just reached 20lbs/9kg. The reason I did this is because we borrowed a RF (from birth) car seat from a friend who then got PG again, so she needed it back. I was not going to buy a RF seat for the sake of a couple of months. I agree with Haribo, if it's legal, i.e. if they say suitable from 9kg or whatever, then I'm sure the people concerned have done stringent tests on them.

They would not sell FF car seats for use from 9KG if this was not safe.

macaco · 02/01/2009 19:34

it's all a matter of degree really isn't it? I can't get a RF seat so I'll research and get the next best thing. I understand there are other perhaps better options but they are not open to me. FF seats are a safe way to transport your child and that is why they are legal and on sale. RF seats are even better, should you be able to get hold of one, that's great.

I'm not perfect and I'm sure there are many things I could have done better but I do the very best I can. I thought that was what mumsnet was about, supporting other mums and understnading they can only do their best..it's certainly what this thread has always been about.

Haribosmummy · 02/01/2009 21:49

hahaha! Macaco - Have you seen the temperatures??? It's bloody freezing at the moment!!! Not sure we'll be venturing out for long with DS!!! Still, we are lucky to be going to a 'home from home' resort so we'll have plenty of stuff to do...

Granny and Grandad have been roped into mind Ddog so our house is a bit of a madhouse tonight!!!

Does anyone else have new years resolutions?

mine are:

  1. Get fit
  2. Complete Moonwalk (this will be the third time I've done it - didn't do it last year as it was the night DS was born)
  3. Get a job (I suppose that this is No 3 it doesn't show a great work ethic, but I AM working, just rather Ad Hoc at the mo!)
monkeysmama · 02/01/2009 23:19

Evening ladies

Think things on here are all starting to get a bit too surreal and acerbic for my liking. Anyone else picked up on the teddy bear baby thread...? I use MN for this thread and info on important things such as where to buy the perfect pair of flat black boots, how to cook red cabbage and which brand of makeup remover is the best. I only post once a week or so now even though I read this post almost every day but am wondering if the time has come to say farewell.

MM

thefortbuilder · 03/01/2009 08:20

MM i haven't seen that thread and to be honest i'm staying away from everything but my two PN threads.

it's all getting a bit ridiculous everywhere else on MN - justinemumsnet are you reading this?????

HM have a great time, and whoever was the weather in NZ will probably be crap!

Mitchell81 · 03/01/2009 08:31

MM Don't leave, we have a nice thread here and are nice to each other as all threads should be. We give support, guidance, reasurrance and helpful advice etc.

Well some news in the Mitchell household. DS2 had been waking so frequently in the night so decided I wanted my room, bed back to myself(Of course DH has to stay . It has been 8 years since I haven't had a child/baby in our room/bed.
So we tried DS2 in his cot went to bed at 7pm with a bottle and took about 15 minutes to fall asleep he was a bit unsetlled till 11pm and woke twice, but fell asleep again on his own and then woke at 2:30 had 2 ounces of milk and then took about 15 minutes to fall back asleep and woke up at 7:30am. Yippee.

He was moaning more than hysterical screaming which we used to get in the car. So although he didn't sleep through, was in his bed from 7pm till 7am. I will keep on working at it and hopefully one day it clicks and he sleeps through, still an improvement on our usual sleeping. And he didn't wake DD or DS1.

luckymummy74 · 03/01/2009 09:39

Dontcha just hate it when you type a long post then lose it....!!

Deemented I'm assuming you are decorating your house to sell it? You have my sympathy. We decorated two rooms (girls bedroom and bathroom) when DD2 was 4 months old. It was ridiculous, trying to paint during the day with a baby and a toddler running around. We ended up staying up til midnight to do it, for 5 days. Exhausting!!!

faeriemoo don't want you to not feel welcome. A lot of us on this thread feel that there is too much 'judging' on MN and we have made a point of not doing so on this thread. There are things other people do that I may not agree with, but I would never say so as it's none of my business, it's their choice. The one thing that MN has taught me is that we are all so diverse in our ways, so what works for some people doesn't work for others. For example, I personally never did the co-sleep thing. My girls are both good sleepers and I like to think it's because of what we did with them (i.e. cot in our room for first 4 months then in their own room, ignoring crying when I knew they weren't hungry etc). Co-sleeping is not for me, but I would never criticise or judge anyone else for doing it. That's just an example. I'm not trying to start a co-sleeping debate!!

DD1 currently jumping around the house with excitement because she just managed to put her pants on by herself!!!!!!! (bit like me with SPD in late pregnancy...without the jumping ).

DD2 crawling well, to the point where we have had to put the stairgate back up!! When DD1 needs a wee, DD1 crawls out to the downstairs loo to come and find us. It's so cute, we just hear this little grunting then a little face appears at the door!!!

Hope you all have a good day. I have a friend with DS same age as my DD1, we are taking them swimming then they are staying over and friend and I will watch SATC!!!! It's the day we had planned in Dec that we had to cancel cos DD1 ill.

Have a nice day all

neenztwinz · 03/01/2009 11:31

Hi all, my twins were born in May so thought I'd say hello. I am on the June PN thread cos they were due in June but I just came over here cos I was being nosey and wondered what you were all talking about! The DTs are eight months old next week - it's amazing how the time flies isn't it! I had hold of a four-week-old yesterday and she was so small and squishy and gorgeous, not heavy and sturdy like my two!

We have no crawling here yet but I don't think they are far off, they are both sitting quite well tho. We are doing a mix of purees and BLW (altho I upset some people on my June thread by saying BLW was 'a load of old crap' - what I meant was I don't believe the theory that a baby should ONLY feed itself and not be spoonfed at all. That's just my opinion having read the book).

We had a tough time with sleep over Chrsitmas cos we were away from home and the routine went all out and they had a cold and we got into a stiuation where they were BFing three times a night (each!) but I have stopped feeding them in the night now and they are sleeping much better.

As for car seats, I am trying to find ones that fit in my car with the infant carrier too so that when I have another baby I don't need to buy a new car . It is proving tough but I have a few leads!

Anyway, I am going to lurk around here for a while - you seem like lovely ladies!

macaco · 03/01/2009 14:54

Hi welcome neenztwinz Congratulations, twins must be seriously hard work! Good luck on the car seat, I suppose it's much more complex cos it's all double everything! We started on purees but have been doing only finger foods/BLW for about 3 weeks now and I am a total total convert....I think I'd do it from the word go with another child. For us it's been fab. Nothing against purees tho...each to his own.
Mitchell That's fab about your LO, I think you've done great sticking it out til now. DS was in his own room at 2 months cos he was so noisy I couldn't sleep at all!

macaco · 03/01/2009 14:55

by the way MM do you mean the thread about calling the kids teddy and dolly? I saw the beginning but thought it was a wind up to be honest.

monkeysmama · 03/01/2009 16:38

Good afternoon ladies

Me & dd have just got back from the protest about what's happening in Gaza. I thought long & hard about going but last night I kept thinking what it must be like to be there with a baby and it made me think I should do something. Dd loved all the noise & people!

Macaco-unfortunately not that story. Someone had been posting about their kids for some time, got challenged, eventually admitted her ds isn't real (a bear I understand). The poster who "outed" her was not treated too nicely. Then a linked thread saw someone else outed with her RL name & other nasty stuff. All a bit crazy!

MM

neenztwinz · 03/01/2009 20:02

Macaco - can I ask how your LO is sleeping at night? I think I would be OK with BLW if I thought my twins would sleep all night but I am too scared to try it whole-heartedly in case they don't! Yes twins is seriously hard work (double the smiles and hugs and pleasure tho!) and I need my sleep .

faeriemoo · 03/01/2009 20:49

Sorry if I offended or upset anyone, I really did not mean to. I've come across people all the time who actually don't know the higher risks of FF seats as no-one has ever told them. I wanted to mention it in case anyone genuinely didn't know the risks. Monaco, I know you have made an informed decision after researching the risks and any seats that may be available for you - I just wouldn't have been comfortable with my conscious if I hadn't pointed it out, in case it just was a case of you not knowing IYKWIM?

Sorry if that comes across as really condescending, I just get a bit over-zealous sometimes when it comes to safety and can't keep my mouth shut LOL

Anyway, like I said, sorry if I offended anyone - I didn't mean to get off to a bad start

luckymummy74 · 04/01/2009 09:13

No worries faeriemoo .

Mitchell81 · 04/01/2009 10:17

Faeriemoo Don't worry about it

macaco · 04/01/2009 11:24

Don't worry fairiemoo, all forgotten. We're all very Friendly May Ladies here

VanessaParody · 04/01/2009 11:39

Hello all.

Tis' DuchessofNorks, I namechanged months ago and haven't visited this thread since. Have only read a few backposts. at the crawlers, DS2 is only just rolling with conviction so I expect it to be a few more weeks before he's on the move. On the other hand he is cutting his 7th tooth. And he's sleeping well so I think we're going to move him into his own room any day now.

monkeysmama - MN has frequent peaks & troughs and at the moment it's erring to the latter. Just stick to the threads you need and leave all the whining & trolling until it settles down again. This thread can be chatty enough as well as providing support/advice so it acts like a 'micro-MN' anyway.

Hello to new joiners. I am a crap correspondent so don't expect to see me again until they hit their first birthdays!!!

VanessaParody · 04/01/2009 11:42
Mocat · 04/01/2009 14:36

Happy new Year to you all .

DS has been in a FF car seat for about three weeks. He didn't fit in the baby one any longer; his head had stretched up higher then the 'wings' and his arms couldn't lie at his side. He hasn't reached 9kgs yet but he is long.I understand that it is dangerous if their heads go above the boundary as they would rattle from side to side upon impact. We all weigh up the risks seriously and don't knowingly endanger our children. Writing that though, I am eating my DD's chocolate from her selection box without her knowing it. Bold mummy syndrome?

Mocat · 04/01/2009 14:46

I posted when I was still reading the previous page so now the seat debate has moved on. Oops!

lm74 Wow at the crawling!! DS isn't near there at all.

macaco · 04/01/2009 15:40

DS also doing really stonkingly good crawling here!

Deemented · 04/01/2009 15:51

Luckymummy74 - no, am decorating my new home - though that's proving to be a challenge - see my post on AIBU....

So, is now about the time that we have a clingy stage then? Cos if it is, then flossy is right in the middle of it. I don't know if it's just her being clingy, or if it's the fact that she's with me, and only me, 24/7, but she won't stay with anyone at all - she refuses EBM from a bottle, doidy, spoon , syringe - you name it, she will only drink from me. Were BLW and it's good that she's eating some things, but it's getting t the point where she won't even let me be out of her sight to go to the loo!!!

luckymummy74 · 04/01/2009 21:12

Welcome neenztwinz I cannot imagine how hard work twins is....respect!!!. I have twin cousins (34 now so not so much hard work ) and a couple of friends with twins. What they all say is that as they get older it's actually easier as they have each other to play with. Saying that, I am totally that you are even thinking about more babies.....!!!!!

Deemented . Can't help you there I'm afraid, neither of mine have ever been clingy (it's cos I'm a mean selfish mummy who leaves them with other people from early on ).

Had a lovely day/evening with friend and her DS.

monkeysmama I know I shouldn't be but I'm intrigued by this 'teddy' thread, can you link us to it? (is that wrong of me??)

Today I bought an ipod [excited]. I currently have one song on it.....who wants to know what it is?? (it's a bit embarrasing!)
When I got it out of the box, I was trying to set it up and the first thing they wanted me to do was select a language and I pressed the wrong button and for half an hour thought I was gonna have to learn chinese . Luckily my sis sorted it out for me .

I'm very please this weekend as I've been really making an effort to do more finger food with DD2, she now loves sandwiches (I didn't give DD1 sandwiches til she was about 10 months . Lack of confidence etc etc) and she has breadsticks and today grapes...she is eating really textured food aswell, much more textured and lumpy than DD1 at this age, again, just cos I'm more confident. She'll be eating exaclty what we eat in no time!!

Talking of which, I gave DD1 a lentil and aubergine curry (not spicy at all) yesterday. She really didn't like it!! I managed to get her to eat 3 spoons, but she seriously looked like someone doing a bushtucker trial...shaking, wretching and gagging......poor little thing. It wasn't long before the marmite sandwiches came out .

DD1 starts playgroup in the morning!!!!!

monkeysmama · 04/01/2009 22:02

Here you go LM Now I feel a bit horrible drawing everyone's attention to it. I am not a horrible person I promise!

Vanessaparody - thanks. Occasionally I think people have to stand up and be counted.

I have a question about nappy rash. Dd has never really had nappy rash before though she has had some mild blistering almost on her minnie over the past few weeks. She spends an hour or so a day nappy-less and even when she's had it mildly before the Burt's Bees cream has cleared it up straight away. But today the skin is actually broken and it looks so sore and may even be bleeding a bit Is this normal? She's teething but I've also given her milk for the first time over the past 2 days (in porridge). Is this normal? Does it sound to be teething related? Any good tips on what we can do to relieve her a bit? Thanks

Bought dp a wii for Christmas and I'm going to thrash him at bowling again. It is really sad how quickly we've turned into geeky people - he bought me a nintendo DS to play Brain Training on & I got him the wii and wii fit. We both usually hate computer games but almost didn't go out a few nights ago to stay in and play

'Night all

MM

neenztwinz · 04/01/2009 22:12

MM, my DD has that blistering too at the mo (and never heard anyone use minnie before except me and my sisters!). She has always suffered on and off from bad nappy rash (DT1 has never had any) and we use Metanium and it always clears. The blistering this time has been bad and a lot higher up than normal (all over her minnie not just her bum). The metanium has worked, tho it has taken five days or so, we just lay it on really thick. I have also given them porridge for the firts time recently but she had the rash before that. I didn't link it to teething but she has been gnawing my boob lately so myabe that is it! BTW where are you from if you don't mind me asking. i live in merseyside but before that lancashire. Maybe minnie is a lancs thing!

Luckymummy, PMSL at your post. Are you always that funny
