how's it going sasa?

DD2 is commando crawling so fast now, she whizzes accross the floor!

Back to waking really early though! Today was not so bad, 6.15am.

She stilleats anything, which I am so greatful for. And she has started to clap her hands, so cute!

We have had an appt for her 8 month check this Monday, I thought they'd phased these out but the HV said it was more of a chance to chat than a check up, and that they will weigh and measure her. I am greatful that my HV is good, and she has even offered to come here to do it, though that may be so she can guarantee that I will attend!

It seems the increased spewing Thomas did was something to do with some sort of tummy bug as it got worse on Thursday. He had a raised temperature and wasn't interested in any food or drink. Luckily he was much better the next day and he is eating and drinking again normally now. Last night he suddenly had little red spots on his body but today they are gone. It sounds like the symptoms of Roseola, which is nothing too serious. Of course I'm keeping my eye on him and will see the GP if the spots come back or if he seems unwell again. Lucky the spots don't seem like chickepox spots!

He crawled last week and then lost all interest in it for a while. Thomas much prefers to stand and cruise. However, yesterday he suddenly remembered that he could crawl and impressed us by doing it several times. He's not very fast yet but I'm sure he'll soon discover that crawling is fun and can take away much frustration.

Sasa, have you tried the new breakfast routine? Any luck?

Eshay · 11/04/2005 11:24

Oh, we are moving house on Saturday. Does anyone have any tips for keeping DS happy during all this?

sasa15 · 12/04/2005 14:12

hi Eshay....I hope Thomas get better soon...

you won't believe that..I still haven't found a breakfast routine,,,,

for few days he only had 8oz of milk..as I couldn't bit bothered..to waste food and time...

then I realised that wasn't good giving up...and
try again...he now has got....

2oz of milk formula...as he's thirsty after a night sleep/...then 2oz formula with cereal, banana, yogurt,,,and then....the rest of the milk...

and seems to work ok.....and 12pm lunch....(a biscuit or rice cake around 10.30...am...)

so will see....(only 2 days so far...went better yesterday and left a bit of breakfast today.,,)

Afternoon nap..seems going better too....

but he still move around and wake up after half an hour(they go into light sleep...and then take off his blanket...and sleep again for another hour....)

the only thing worried me is ....
is he getting cold????

because I always take off his bottom trousers..before nap....and put a light blanket on him...

but then he kick the blanket off...and
his legs are not covered...
and during digestion is not good...I think...

sasa15 · 12/04/2005 14:13

ds is 8 months..and not crawling yet....not moving around....he seems strong...hv 8 months check said he might not crawl...but start to stend up and walk ....

littlerach · 12/04/2005 14:19

Evie had her 8 month check, all fine, still little, 16 1/2 lbs! We were given some free books from Bookstart which was nice. And tols to give her more finger food - they are never happy!

OP posts:
sasa15 · 12/04/2005 14:23

I've books too...ds loves books...and picture...

he has finger food,,,everything ...some days he's more interested then others..and often they go all in the floor first..and then..back in his tray and in his mouth,..

Eshay · 12/04/2005 17:04

Thomas is just over 9 months now but I don't have my 8 month check-up until next week. He'll probably seem super big to the HV. Ha ha!

Sasa, it sounds like you are making progress with the breakfast situation. About the naps - have you tried a baby sleeping bag instead of blankets? I would not survive without one, I swear. You just zip baby in and don't have to worry about blankets coming off or baby crawling out from underneath.

Littlerach, how did the HV assess you weren't giving Evie enough finger foods? Do they do some sort of test to see how dexterous they are?

littlerach · 12/04/2005 18:49

Nope, she asked what she ate and I told her. Then she asked if she had toast, lumps of cheese and fruit etc and I said No! She has started to use her pincer grip, so that will help her. TBH, I just hadn't bothered with finger foods as she eats so well anyway! So today she has had toast and sweetcorn and peas whilst we had dinner!

Almost forgot, she has been saying Mama nonstop the last 2 days - makes me go all funny!!

OP posts:
Eshay · 13/04/2005 08:55

Oh, how cute! I still have to use quite a bit of imaginations every time Thomas says mama as he still directs it at anyone and anything.

So did you give her whole peas to pick up with her fingers? I haven't tried that yet. I've been too worried he might choke on them. I do give Thomas toast sometimes but he usually likes to inspect it from all angels, wave it about and then throw it on the floor. I might try peas tonight. Sounds like fun!

Springchicken · 13/04/2005 11:48

Evie hasn't had her check yet - i asked my HV about it as i thought they are meant to have a 6 months check but aparently it is a 6/12 month check.
I haven't got Evie weighed for a long time due to working when the baby clinic is on but last week i got her weighed at hospital and she was 17lb 14oz, is that good or bad? Everyone keeps telling me how tiny she is so getting a bit worried!

she started crawling about a week ago - not got to the tearing around everywhere stage yet but she gets so pleased with herself when she stops for a rest - just sits there grinning because she's been so clever! Brings a tear to my eye.
Can't believe they are all heading towards their first birthdays .
Does anyone feel like they don't have a little baby anymore because they are getting so clever and learning how to do new things all the time?

sweetkitty · 13/04/2005 11:55

I know exactly what you mean SC our babies are getting all grown up but it's lovely to see them become little people too.

I haven't had Abbie weighed in about 5 weeks I reckon she must be about 17lbs now. I know she's growing and she's a happy wee thing so I'm not too stressed. She is a right little madam with food now she wants to feed herself now. She can pick up peas and raisins now and eat them. She loves toast and apple especially although I think she lieks exercising her new teeth on the apple most. She has to have something to eat when we are eating as well or she gets really upset!

No crawling here either and I don't think she will because she gets about fine by rolling and bum shuffling. She's so quick it's scary now can't imagine what it will be like when she walks!!

Our house move has stalled a bit we have the most laid back slow buyer ever. I'm get really annoyed now as it means Abbie and I will be down here whilst DP starts his new job in Edinburgh!

sasa15 · 13/04/2005 13:09

Eshay...yes I have sleeping bag but I try to use only night time....

He usually get hot in the afternoon...specially if is sunny day,,,,,

but he has sleeping bag at the moment...because he got a bit of cold today....bless him...

but yes they are clever...and do new things....

he really knows what I'm talking about..i always ask where are the birds?... and he looks outside...and shall we put some music on?
and he looks at the computer...that I use to play music...also say mama papa dada but don't know the meaning.,...

sasa15 · 15/04/2005 13:23

ds always wake up sweatty,,,,sleeping bag in the afternoon doesn't work for ds...!!!!

it might be the digestion make him hot....

we don't have heater on during the day..so!!!!

I gave up breakfast trial...at the moment...he has a bit of cold...cough..so it is nice for him wake up and having 8oz of warm milk...at the moment...

and he has also half banana around 10.00am

I will start again once he's completely recovered!!!!

Did anyone start the cup training?...I mean for milk feed....

Ds drinks water...but he plays with it(cup) more then other....

sasa15 · 15/04/2005 14:05

I understand now that during the afternoon nap after half an hour they go to light sleep....

wake up every afternoon..screaming...still tired ...and sometimes follow asleep again...

do you know for how long that will happen?

when do they stop waking up...?after half an hour?

is it anything to do with digestion?

MrsEvs · 15/04/2005 16:42

Hello All

Sorry have been awol or a while. I have had my parents over visiting which has been lovely. Well I took Phoebe to the doctor last week cos she had a really nasty cough (she was fine though) and at just over 8 months she was 20lbs 6 !!!

Not crawling yet or cruising. She can go backwards just pushing herself with her arms and can get up on all fours, just doesn't go anywhere! Loves to stand up holding on to her activity table thingy but can't move about once she's there. She seems pretty interested in getting mobile now though so maybe it'll happen sometime soon?

Still having trouble feeding her anything other than jars, except finger food. She eats Cheerios, bits of ham/cheese/turkey/bread/banana/apple etc, but when it comes to actual meals she won't eat what I make her. Did lovely mince with cheesey mash potatoes, put it through the moulis so it was a similar consistency to her food, but she still refused it Any sure fire favourites anyone can suggest?

littlerach · 15/04/2005 19:22

Maybe try fruit first, then add some to the veg as she gets more interested.

Sasa, I have the same prob with E sleeping for just 30-40 mins, but I have now left her to cry for a few mins when she wkes up and today she went back to sleep after 5 mins of grumpy crying - hurrah! Probably just a fluke though!

Still waking at 5am......

MrsEvs · 15/04/2005 19:42

Have tried stewed apple and pear (both of which she loves from a jar) but she wouldn't eat it. She'll eat bananas and orange in her fingers, but won't eat bananas if I mash them (though again she will eat it from a jar!)

sasa15 · 16/04/2005 09:05

try small pasta....with veg and cheese on top....
mrs Eve

sasa15 · 16/04/2005 09:06

littlerach yes ds does too sometimes...one day yes one day no....
every afternoon....is different...that's why I had enough...

Spacecadet · 16/04/2005 12:02

Hi everyone
glad to see thomas is better eshay, am alarmed that em is 9 months and hasnt had a check up, must phone hv, she is still only about 18lbs ans still in her first stage car seat!! she is now pulling herself up to stand, crawling superfast and I dont think it will be long before shes cruising, she bables alot but her favourite word is " abuh"!!! anyone tell me what that means?? say it back to her and she gsts really exicited!!

Sponge · 18/04/2005 14:24

Harry hasn't had an 8 month check either. I'd forgotten all about it. The only thing I remember being important at that stage with dd was the hearing test and they do that at birth now. No idea what he weighs either but he's definitely getting heavier, eats well, chats away, is very alert etc so I have no worries about him.

He crawled for the first time this morning . He's been on all fours and desperate to move for ages but he finally managed to go forwards this morning. Stair gate shopping at the weekend!

His other new trick is to shake his head vigourously when he's had enough to eat. We nod and say "yes" and he shakes his head and giggles.

sweetkitty · 19/04/2005 16:29

hi all

We had Abbie weighed this morning and she is 17lbs 1/2ozs 9 months tomorrow where has the time gone?

She's doing really well don't think she will crawl as she gets about by rolling and dragging herself. She's so fast as well. Food going well although she has turned into such a little madam that she wants to feed herself all the time. She has this funny screwed up face that means I'm not eating that!

House move has fallen apart (very quickly) - our buyer has gone awol so we have assumed he is no longer buying the house so our move to Scotland has fallen through . DP starts his new job in Edinburgh in 2 weeks so he will be up there and DD and I will be down here house back on market with another estate agent and price dropped, fingers crossed we get some interest soon. Am so angry and down about it all.

Spacecadet · 19/04/2005 19:29

sweetkitty so sorry, we are selling ours too and feel ill already, no interest. fingers crossed that you wont have to spend to long away from dh.

littlerach · 19/04/2005 21:03

How crappy, sooo mad that people can do that.
