I tried putting it in the jar but she wasn't fooled, and the only ingredients in the jar she likes are sweet potatoes and water for preparation. I also tried to give it to her as finger food in little cubes but she spat them out too

MarmaladeSun · 01/04/2005 08:48

Had to share this with everyone...I'm so proud!!! Little Siobhan stood on her own for 8 seconds yesterday!!! She looked so cute too, with her padded fat bottom sticking out...bless. I love this age, don't you? Everything's a milestone

littlerach · 01/04/2005 09:20

spongebob, evie often only has 14 oz a day, i make sure she has yoghurt, cheeses etc.

what time do you give milk in the morning and breakfast...what first????

please help...

no happy about eating breakfast...

should I give it first...and what time follow the milk?

8 months today

Sponge · 01/04/2005 10:11

Spongebob, Harry only really drinks any quantity of milk at bedtime and in the morning. We give him about 200ml when we got to bed (about 10pm) - dreamfeed - and he drinks most or all of that, and 180ml in the morning, before he has his breakfast. He gets offered 2 other bottles in the day but often will only drink a little bit. Just make sure he also gets cheese, yoghurt etc if he's not drinking much.

Sasa15, he still has 2 naps a day - morning around 10am and afternoon somewhere around 2 or 3pm. Sometimes he sleeps for ages and other times only for about 30 mins but he tends to sleep longer with the morning than the afternoon nap.
Our feeding pattern is pretty much the same as yours. Lunch and dinner are home made baby mush, sometimes with some pasta or rice added for texture.

MrsEvs we've got chicken, lamb and beef (mince) on the go at the moment. I tend to soften a bit of onion or leek, add the meat and some other veg (so currently the beef is with carrot and tomato, the chicken with butternut squash and sweet potato and the lamb with leek and apricot) then add some water and cook it all for a while. I still puree it quite well - he's not so keen if it's too course and chewy - and sometimes add some bits afterwards. If she's used to jars then the texture is very smooth so have you tried mushing it really well?

Sorry to hear Blake's in the wars again Dino. Hope he's better soon.

Spongebob, Thomas has cut back on his milk intake as well in the last month or so. I used to give him formula after his solids but I now give him 3 or 4oz while I prepare his food. Some days I give him an 8oz bottle around 3pm (instead of solids) so that, over the course of one week, he still gets plenty of formula. Also don't forget that the milk you use in his dinners counts as well, as do cheese and yoghurt. If you're worried about his milk intake you could try and add a bit more milk to each meal. Also, my friend's HV said that after 8 months you don't have to be so strict with the milk intake anymore.

MrsEvs, Thomas loves both jars and home made so it's never been an issue here. But here's my thoughts: maybe you could try mixing some of your own food in with a jar, say 20% own /80% jar. If that works, you could try slowly adjusting the proportions.

Marmaladesun - That is very impressive! I have tried to see if Thomas would stand on his own but he usually falls sideways right away. He does love standing while holding on to his play pen or other furniture though. He could stand there for hours if his legs would let him He can balance and sit on his knees very well, though, which is something I was not expecting at all.

Eshay · 01/04/2005 10:36

Sasa15, here's what we do:
7.30 wake up
7.45 3oz milk while I prepare the rest of his food
7.50 1 weetbix with 3oz milk and fruit mixed in
9.30 nap
12.00 3or 4oz milk, lunch
(1pm sometimes nap, sometimes not)
3pm sometimes 8oz milk plus some finger foods, sometimes 4oz milk plus solids (amount equal to small jar)
4pm nap
6pm 3oz milk, huge dinner

Thomas seems to like having 2 longer naps these days rather than 3 shorter naps. He usually skips the lunch time one now. He is very good at going to sleep in his cot but no longer falls asleep easily in the pram...

sasa15 · 01/04/2005 12:51

he doesn't it his breakfast....but he drinks 80z at 7am/7.30.....so maybe at 8am he's not hungry...yet....but if I wait longer...then messed up with nap(suppose to go down at 9am) lunch time and afternoon nap//////???

sweetkitty · 01/04/2005 14:43

naps!!!????

Abbie's rough routine is this:

4-5am BF
7-8am half weetabix and milk
10.30am BF
might have short nap if out in pram or 30 mins max
12-1pm lunch
3.30pm BF
5pm dinner
7pm BF

Will put her down at 10.30 and 3.30 after her milk but she very rarely sleeps in the day now would love a baby that had 2 naps in the daytime

jessicasmummy · 01/04/2005 15:07

jess's routine....

6am - 9oz milk
7.30am - breakfast - packet cereals
8.30am - nap (about 1hr-1 1/2hrs)
10.30am - snack - finger food
12 noon - lunch followed by a bit of bottle
1.30pm - nap - anything from 20 mins to 2 hours!
3.30pm - snack - finger food
5pm - tea followed by 9 oz bottle
5.30pm - bath
6pm - bed

littlerach · 01/04/2005 19:38

Have you tried only giving half the bottle ot breakfast, then using the rest to make the breakfast straight away?

Ok, Evie's day:
7am 3oz formula, 3oz in her weetabix
9.30 ish sleep, 1/2 hr to 1 hr
10.30 bottle, usually takes 3-4oz
12.30 lunch. homemade, usually fish or chicken and veg mush! Followed by fruit.

Then it goes haywire! Sometimes she has a sleep at 1pm for 1/2 hr, sometimes not til 2pm for a bit longer. If she does the former, then a bottle at 3pm and another sleep for 1/2 hr, if the latter then a bottle when she wakes up!

Dinner at 5pm, also a bottle, but only a couple of ounces. Tea is often mash and cheese and some veg thrown in, followed by yoghurt and fruit. Then she sometimes has some bread or cheeses when we eat.

Bath at 6pm, bottle at 6.30, though she rarely takes any, then sleep!!!

She eats a lot I think, yet is till quite tiny! She has never taken much milk, I have given up worrying!

alright......thank you everyone...just asked a friend with baby a bit older..and suggested
to give only 5oz at 7am...and breakfast at 8.30am.....a bit like littlerach...suggested...
using the rest of the milk 3oz...with cereal...

I'm happy not to give any other milk feed....
as I should cut also the afternoon feed soon...and give more snack...and finger food...

And also I will insist for putting him down...
at 12,45pm 1pm...for nap....seems to work in the long one......I'll persevere.....

Slept 1hour and 15min today.....

Good idea of mash for dinner with veg...
also waiting through the post Karmel's book...

have a nice weekend........and many thanks...

Spacecadet · 01/04/2005 23:31

routine and emily dont go in the same sentance, the only thing i can swear by is that she is up at 5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111she is pulling herself up on the furniture now at 8 months and the she coos with delight at how clever she is!!

Toothache · 01/04/2005 23:47

Beths routine:

Up at 7am ish - 5oz bottle
8.30am porridge with rest of milk
10am - sleep
12am wakes for lunch
bowl of solids + fruit puree + 7oz bottle
3pm - sleep
4pm - wakes for a wee drink then plays until her teatime
6pm - teatime
bowl of solids + fruit puree + bottle
8pm - 8oz bottle.... BEDTIME!!

Doesn't feed during the night, but wakes 2 or 3 times for a drink of water.

That was a rough estimate as, like spacecadets baby, dd has no routine! How can she...poor girl...her week is:

Monday = Childminder
Tuesday = home with Daddy
Wednesday = home with Mummy
Thurday = Childminder
Friday = Granny's house!!

Toothache · 01/04/2005 23:48

Must mention that she is quite often up at 6am or before! Grrrrrrrrroan.

littlerach · 02/04/2005 08:05

can spmpathise, as Evie was up at 5am until last weekend. Not sure if it was the clocks changing or staying at my mums, but she lsept until 7am! Then DH has been away all this week, and she has been going until 6.30. He came back last night and she was up at 5.45!!! She has this awful habit of knocking her dummy against the bars of her cot in the morning. The first time she did it I was terrified as I didn't know what it was, plus we live in the middle of nowhere! Then we realised it was her, calling us!!!!! I have started to hang a blanket over the bars as she then discovered she could post it through!

Spacecadet · 02/04/2005 09:14

Emily is still in our room, so of course when she wakes up, she calls us to get up, but when you look at her your meyt with a big cheesy grin, so you cant be cross, even if it was 4.30 this morning

Eshay · 02/04/2005 19:52

Sasa15 - Yes, it sounds like a good idea to give your baby less milk at 7am. My Thomas would not be hungry for 3 hours after so much milk! Hope it goes well.

Spacecadet · 02/04/2005 21:52

Emily drinks about 3 ounces of milk with breakfast, then another 2 mid-morning, then juice at lunchtime followed by about 3 ounces at teatime, then a full 9 ounce bottle at bedtime.

Eshay · 06/04/2005 09:07

Thomas has a new hobby - spewing. He's done it several times now. He eats his meal and drinks his water, and as soon as it's finished, he coughs a few times and spews everything all over himself, the high chair and the floor. We then quickly make him some more food, which he eats like there is no tomorrow. After that he is usually all right, no more spews. He does not seem ill at all and he loves his food. He is teething (ttoth number 6 at the mo) but in the past that has never made him spew. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Spacecadet · 06/04/2005 09:31

eshay, ds 2 used to be like that, hiswas caused by a slight weakness in his stomache muscle, he was referred to a paediatrician who advised a watch and wait system, sur enough he got better on his own, im not saying thats what thomas has but his symptoms match my ds2. also is it possible he is allergic to something? have you introduced something new into his diet at all?

Eshay · 06/04/2005 19:42

No, nothing new. He does it after all sorts of meals. Yesterday after his couscous with peppers, which he loves and has been eating for weeks. This morning he did it after his Weetbix with banana. Strange thing is that he normally only does it at the end of the meal, almost as if to protest because it's finished. Luckily he didn't do it this afternoon or this evening. Maybe it's to do with eating too fast.
I'll definitely start keeping a list of what he's eaten etc. but I'm not worried. More annoyed, really.

Spacecadet · 06/04/2005 21:48

quite annoying if you are sood in front of him when he vomits.

Sponge · 07/04/2005 10:01

Harry puke a bit after quite a few meals although not every one and not enough to warrant refeeding him.
It is messy though but he's such a dribbler we have a permanent bib on him.
The worst thing I find is that when they're just on milk then the puke just smells a bit milky. Now it smells of sick. Yuk.

sasa15 · 07/04/2005 14:55

still messing about with his breakfast....

7am 5oz and 8.30 breakfast didn't work...

maybe I'll try littlerach...

7am 3oz and straight away breakfast with rest of 3oz...
