Hello was just reading all your comments about jars/homemade.

I fed DS with jars and he refused homemade. He was v faddy toddler but he eats healthly now(7).
DD1 eat almost only homemade and now eats everything, currys, olives, marmite, bovril, you name it she eats it shes now 3yo
DD2 Refuses to let a mouthfull of homemade pass her lips although she likes finger foods so maybe we will get there in the end

Harry slept through the night last night .
Second night in his own room. Bed at 7.30, dream feed at 10pm and that was him till 7am this morning. Yippee. Let's hope it's a sign of things to come and not a one off.

littlerach · 08/03/2005 13:25

thats not fair!!!

He did it again last night. Tee hee .

Aha! new thread - just spotted it! Just catching up with all your news in the last week! Went away for a cheeky girls night out last Friday and left DP with Sam for the night - seemed to get on fine! Although now he is playing the dying swan with a cold/flu thing (hasn't left his bed for 2 days) and so I have TWO babies to look after!
Sam has mainly homemade food as we get a veg box delivered and it's easy to whizz stuff up from it for his meals. Just gave him a beef stew today which went down a lot better than the lumpy bolognese-type thing I gave him last week (didn't like the lumps...). No teeth yet so am wondering about whether I should stick to smooth purees or try and persevere with a lumpier texture? any thoughts?

cricket · 09/03/2005 13:12

I always forget to finish off what I was saying and have to add a little bit, must be my mushy brain...Anyway, I meant to add that I'm not bothered if he has the occasional jar of babyfood (the Hipp ones are great) as I don't want him to refuse them if I have to give one in an emergency sometime!!

littlerach · 09/03/2005 14:16

yeah, I'm the same about lumps, although she does manage flakes of fish and chicken.
my hv said that they often find it easier to start with finger food as lumps, as then they know that it is a lump, whereas off a spoon they presume it can be swallowed and sometimes choke.

sponge, i am soooo jealous, we are up usually once to pop the dummy in, then she often wakes ast 5am for 1/2 hr before going back to sleep until 7am, so not really that bad, but i still feel knackered!!!

OP posts:
cricket · 09/03/2005 15:38

Know what you mean littlerach - Sam sleeps through until 4.30-5am and then wakes for a play...He usually goes back to sleep after a while and then we feed him when he wakes up for his breakfast at any time from 6-7am...It's much better than it was but I still feel permanently knackered!

Sponge · 09/03/2005 15:44

He'll probably be up all night now to teach me a lesson for being smug.

MrsEvs · 09/03/2005 22:48

I also thought I would make all my own baby food, made up lots of batches of Annabel Karmel recipes, and she refused every one without exception, but she always eats the jar stuff. I only buy the organic ones and they have no additives, if it's carrots the ingredients are just carrots and water, so I'm not too phased.

sweetkitty · 10/03/2005 09:24

Just found the new thread, I've got a new idea I give Abbie vegetables covered in cheese sauce which she loves. She likes some of the Annabel Carmel recipes not so keen on lumps yet either she manages little bits of cheese though.

Really scary how much she is moving around now 3 weeks ago she had only learned to roll over now she is bum shuffling everywhere and on her tummy she gets so frustrated she can't move. Oh the fun we will have when she's crawling scares me a bit actually.

Still no news on the house our buyer still stalling I just hope our vendor in Scotland is patient! Abbie and I are flying up to Scotland on Saturday as it's my best friends 30th birthday I'm going to have a night out (whats one of them?) Flying should be fun as well.

dinosaur · 10/03/2005 12:43

cricket DS3 hasn't got any teeth yet either but he can still chew quite well!

Sponge · 10/03/2005 15:04

Yes they don't need teeth to chew. Those little gums are pretty hard. It's a good idea to keep on with some soft texture as they need to learn to chew and use their mouths in different ways.

Harry of course did wake up last night after my gloating. Had a little yell at 2am, settled down pretty quickly, then woke up properly at 6am so I brought him into bed - bad mummy undoing some of her good work.

SK try to keep stringing your seller along. The longer they wait the harder it becomes for them to pull out as they have more to lose from starting all over again. Good luck

sweetkitty · 11/03/2005 15:10

Me again met up with some mums yesterdays whose DS's are 2 weeks older than Abbie we were in a soft play area and you should have seen them go crawling everywhere poor Abbie was just on her front looking at them my poor baby hasn't worked out crawling yet. She is a lot more vocal than the boys though, typical woman lies there and shouts. She looks so dainty compared to them as well.

Good news on the house eventually our buyer has done his survey and it's all systems go (until the next hiccup) I hate house selling/buying.

cricket · 11/03/2005 16:08

Poor little mite has now caught daddy's flu bug and is croaking away. Was up all night with him last night as he kept waking and coughing (slept on the floor next to his cot - ouch, my back!). Really horrid to see him like that but he's a brave one and is still smiling plenty!! As a consequence, all solids are off the menu and he's only interested in milk (still can't get him to drink water)...Will be glad when this week is over! Will try him on some lumpier textures once he is better - thanks for the advice one and all!

cricket · 11/03/2005 16:12

btw, I put DS in a playpen now instead of just on his playmat as he was rolling about everywhere (and nearly always rolling onto hard wooden floors and bashing himself - captain chaos!)and feel that it's a bit safer as heseems so near to crawling... Yesterday got him on all fours and rocked him back and forth to encourage him to crawl (although am not still not sure am ready for that yet!!)How things will change once he starts moving for real! eek!

Sponge · 11/03/2005 16:26

Snap cricket. I'm forever putting Harry on the carpet only to find him a couple of minutes later under the table and always on the hard wooden floor. Also not crawling and only sitting for short, wobbly periods and then pitching over - yesterday straight onto his face. Tears .

Great news about the house SK.

dinosaur · 11/03/2005 16:52

Blake's favourite manouvre is to wriggle backwards under the changing unit in the bathroom and then get wedged there!

sweetkitty · 11/03/2005 17:18

Abbie's getting about though by means of bum shuffling backwards and rolling. Trying to teach her to crawl today why?

Thanks sponge can't wait to get into a proper house with stairs and a garden. This is sad but I'm actually really looking forward to hanging a washing out on a washing line been living in flats too long. And can finally have my pink girly nursery. Poor Abbie will finally have a bedroom next mission getting her to sleep in it.

MrsEvs · 13/03/2005 00:40

In the last few days Phoebe has suddenly become much more active too. She has been able to roll over for a long while but hardly ever did it, now she is commando rolling all over the house. She is also rolling onto her tummy, pulling her knees up and rocking, desperate to move. She has started to be able to wriggle around on her tummy too. I was sat with her on the bed and she got from the middle to dangling her legs off the edge . Looks like it won't be long before she starts with the crawling which I'm not sure I'm ready for - I'll never get to sit down again!!

I got so cross the other night. I flew up to Connecticut to see some friends and was on my way back. I had tried to hold off feeding her so that I could feed her during take off, but after we got through security she was starving and started to yell, so I thought I'll just get down to the gate and then I'll sit and feed her. Well half way down the walkway, this woman tuts at me with a disgusted look and said "are you just going to let that poor child scream" Cheeky cow!

hermykne · 13/03/2005 08:41

so glad this started,i was totally lost on the other one, thou this will prob take wings soon too!
sponge - you lucky thing! sleeeeppppp

criket i wouldnt worry about the food not being pureed my previous hvtold me the mupier stuff can help the teeth breaking thru.

sl glad to see a few of you have a 5am wake up and then they nod of back to sleep, my ds is doing that this past few days and its such a nuisance as dd is now wakening at 6.40 instyead of 7.10.

my ds fionn now 7mths, is up on all fours like a rocking horse, and does 180degree turns to move accross the floor, so different to my dd, who at 7mths when we went on holiday sat under her sunshade the whole time.

decided not to move house until fionn has grown of the wreecking phase! never say ye

Xena · 13/03/2005 21:31

Hi all I think that DD2 must be one of the oldest being born on the 8/7. She is crawling at a terrific speed now and DD1 suggested that 'we tie her up for a while' because she is fed up with her touching all her things. Even though she is no 3 how quickly we have forgotten that nothing is sacred! She pulled the big plant over put her fingers in the video and pulls everything of the settee arghhh... But other than that she is lovely and what we had also forgotton is the way they put their arms up when they want a cuddle

Eshay · 14/03/2005 08:34

Hi all,

It's been ages since I last wrote so it took me a while to catch up on what everybody is up to. We went on holiday to New Zealand (late summer there, lovely!) for three weeks. Before our trip, I was very worried about how Thomas would deal with a 36 hour trip but he was absolutely fine! Our first (12hour) flight was at 10pm so he fell asleep during take-off and didn't wake up until 8 hours later. The rest of the flights he just napped every three hours, like he normally does. Great things, those basinettes. So he behaved much better than anyone could have hoped for. And what's even more impressive is that he didn't suffer from jetag at all. When we arrived there was time for one nap at around 4.30pm and then we woke him up at 6. I felt really bad doing this as he was in a coma but it was worth it. We put him to bed again at 7.30pm and he slept all night. I think we struggled more than him! Now that we're home Thomas seems to struggle a bit more. One morning he woke up at 4, the next at 5 and this morning at 6. Hopefully it will be 7 tomorrow and then everything is back to normal.

It's been fun reading about various babies rocking on all fours. Thomas does that too. He started before our trip but everytime he did so I quickly put him on his bum again as I wanted to postpone any crawling until after our trip. I know, this has probably caused him great developmental delays but I really didn't want to have him crawling all over the airplane. He now likes rocking back and forth, after which he collapses. I haven't put him in his playpen yet but I just might get it out today. It's just not safe anymore to put him on the floor and leave the room. He is also quite good at 'walking' when holding my hands. He seems to have a good idea of putting one foor in front of the other and thinks it's great fun. However, when I park him up against a chair he usually just slides onto the floor.

He loves to eat everything. While on holiday we fed him jars but now that we're back he's enjoying my homemade dinners again. Nice and lumpy. However, his favourite at the moment is apple. I just bite off a piece and give him the rest of the apple. He now has 4 teeth so he manages to scrape off some nice bits and seems really pleased with himself. He also likes to hold a piece of banana and chew on that. Having 4 teeth means he bites off pieces that are a bit too big for him to handle so I sometimes have to come to the rescue, which he doesn't like at all.

Sweetkitty - Thomas also enjoys grinding his teeth - it sounds absolutely horrible! And i completely understand that you would love to go out and hang the washing. While on holiday I really enjoyed hanging the washing to dry in the garden. Isn't it great when silly things like that can make you happy?

On a final note, we too are ttc again but we're not in any hurry. Last time I was quite obsessed with it and this time I would like to just see what happens.

Sponge · 14/03/2005 13:58

Took Harry swiming at the weekend foer the first time. He absolutely loved it. We were in the pool for about 45 minutes and he was grinning and laughing the whole time. Fell asleep completely exhausted when we got home though.
He's got 4 teeth too although they're the "wrong" 4. Middle bottom pones but upper side ones so he looks a bit of a vampire. I can see the little bumps of the upper middle ones though, so they're on the way. He ate some pasta quite happily at the weekend but sort of held each mouthful in his mouth for a while as if he was trying to dissolve it by sucking it, like a sweet.
He's now sitting up much more steadily and bouncing forwrads on his bum.
Still sleeping through pretty successfully but waking up at 6.30 which is s bit too early, especially at weekends. We're going io invest in a blackout blind and see if that helps.
SK we've got a garden and I still put everything in the tumble dryer. Bad housekeeper.

cricket · 14/03/2005 16:08

Sponge - not to worry about the tumble drier - I begged DP to get one as I was fed up with washing hanging around the entire house....I love it (but feel bad when the elec bill arrives and I think of the environmental consequences...etc etc) but will hang washing outside once winter has well and truly gone..Never imagined I would be having a conversation about the virtues of a tumble drier! How I've changed!

Sammy is just about getting over a really really awful cold (donated by his dad)which has left him with a nasty chesty cough. Not worth seeing the doctor about but does anyone have any good ideas for getting rid of these things? Have propped up his mattress which helps a bit but he is still waking a lot in the night coughing. Poor little mite.

BTW, how old are all the babies now as I've lost track? Sam was just 7 months last weekend (born 12-Aug-04)
