hi everyone - i havent posted on this one for what feel like an eternity!!!

Jessica is 8 months now - god time flies! No teeth, but driving me mad because i can see them in her gums but they dont want to pop through! Jessica is constantly dosed up with bonjela to soothe her because she is screaming if she is in pain. Also having trouble with lump and homecooked food - she wont touch home cooked stuff and its driving me mad! She will polish off biscuits, rice cakes and breadsticks no problem as finger food, but wont eat jars with huge lumps in! she is rolling everywhere, and has litterally just started trying to commando crawl! Has slept through the night since we moved house 4 weeks ago, so thats a good sign, usually from 6pm til 6am, gonna try over the weekend to get her to go to bed an hour later in the hope she wakes an hour later!!!
had my first scan yesterday and appears im 10 weeks today, so still a bit risky, but baby seems to be growing ok. little mite is only 3.6cm long!!!! bless it! here's hoping for a boy to complete my family! if its a girl, dh wants to keep going til we get a boy, but ive said we will just have to wait and see! We were going to have 4 regardless of sex, but i aint super woman!!!

anyway, hope you are all ok and littlerach - give your little ones a kiss for me!

littlerach · 25/03/2005 17:24

Good to hear from you, pleased it went okay - great news that Jess is sleeping through. Evie is usually awake at 5am, DH gets up with her!!
She is fine with all her food - except milk! Likes everything, lumps and all. Tempted fate now, haven't I??

We went to Ikea today and Thomas was making so much noise the whole time we were there that I felt a little uncomfortable. This evening I did spot another tooth has come through so hopefully that was it for a few days.

Jessicasmummy, could it be that she doesn't like lumps in jars because the lumps are a surprise to her? I've read somewhere that some babies find lumps difficult to deal with when they are not very obviously there. Does she eat thick babyfood okay?

Spacecadet - Yes, he had incredible vertigo, and tinnitus too. After an episode all he could do was lie on the sofa and sleep it off. What really helped him was that he had told some people at work (and family and friends of course) what his problem was so that no one panicked when he had an episode. Having this problem can be extra difficult because most of the time people can't see anything wrong with you so they don't understand and don't sympathise. But, as said before, it seems to have worn off now. He hardly ever takes medication and he hasn't had a problem in over a year! I'm sure there are lots of internet support groups. It might be nice to talk to some other people who are going through the same thing. I would put you in contact with my dad but he doesn't speak English.

jessicasmummy · 26/03/2005 23:28

she eats thick stuff not a problem, and sort of chews the lumpy bits and then spits them out! she had spaghetti bolognase tonight and ate about half of it before she decided the lumps were annoying her! This is what dad has told me though as we are a jessica free house tonight!!!!

Eshay · 27/03/2005 18:16

Wow! A baby free house! We haven't done that yet. Thomas has been cared for by relatives but always at home or on holiday. Still, even having an afternoon or an evening out by ourselves was amazing. It's almost impossible to think back to the days when we used to go clubbing till 7am twice a month!

We've only had 3 or 4 outings and each time it has been a relative who came to babysit. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable with using a paid babysitter just yet. Am I a bit slow in that? How are other people doing on the babysitting front?

Spacecadet · 28/03/2005 16:41

eshay we havent been out at all since em was born, with regard to your dads menieres, i have terrible vertigo, which is the main prob but i seem to unusual in that my attacks last daysand days which is very debilitating, i had an attack on tues but although the spinning has stopped i still am chronically dizzy and tired, ive had 3 attacks in 2 weeks, the gp thinks the stress of losing the baby has done it.Emily is crawling everywhere and is into everything now, she is babbling alot and has 2 shiny bottom teeth, trouble is, now she is crawling she leeps picking stuff up off the floor that ds2 has dropped..and eating it..have to be so careful

Spacecadet · 28/03/2005 16:43

btw, dont worry about not being able to put me in contact with your dad eshay!! cadbury another mn put me in touch with her dad and its been nice to chat to someone, btw where does your dad come from? if you dont mind me asking.

MrsEvs · 28/03/2005 20:20

Hi all

Spacecadet, you poor thing - gosh it never rains but it pours doesn't it?! Hope things improve soon.

Phoebe has also become interested in crawling in the last week or so. She can't actually do it yet but she is up on her arms quite well and tries to drag her knees up behind her.

Has also been very noisy this week, chatting, singing, screeching... she can say Daddy, dadada although she hasn't a clue what she is saying, just random noises. Her fave thing to say though is Bob Bob Bob - my DH is like, who's this Bob guy?

Still only 2 teeth and can't see any sign of more just yet. She has a super snotty nose right now and can hardly breathe through it poor little thing. Vicks on the chest seemed to help her a bit last night though.

Doing pretty well with the food, can pick up Cheerios on her own now and stuffs her face with them Also getting a bit better with the beaker but more still goes down her front than in her mouth - got to learn somehow I guess! I had fish and chips in a diner type place the other day and she ate a load of my cod which was great. She still eats a lot of jar food though. Do people give whole meals of just finger food? I'm never sure how much is enough? Any advice?

I've only had one night out since dd was born cos my friend came over from the UK and dh looked after Pheebs, we haven't been out together at all yet. Know what you mean about only really wanting family to look after them. Good news is my Mum and Dad are coming over for 2 weeks on April 11th and have said we can go out as much as we like - hurrah! Can't wait

Spacecadet · 28/03/2005 20:38

Emily had a cheese sandwhich for tea today, her face!shehad great fun spin ning it round in her hand before squashing it against her face

Sponge · 29/03/2005 09:44

Poor you Spacecadet. My granfather also had menieres and like Eshay's dad he did improve so fingers crossed for you.

Harry is OK with some lumps - bits of pasta in his dinner etc but we're not giving him proper solids yet. He will chew on a bit of bread or a carrot but most of it goes down his front. He has 6 teeth already but he's not 8 months yet so I'm not rushing him. He eats really well - still all home cooked so far.

He's up on his hands and knees but not yet crawling, or at least not forwards. He just pushes himself backwards until he's backed into a corner or rolls until he's under the table.

We've been out together 3 or 4 times and of course we did leave him with my mum for a whole week when we went skiing. Once we've had a professional babysitter (Sitters) otherwise family have looked after him. However now I'm back at work we have a nanny and I've included 2 babysitting nights a week in her contract so we're looking forward to starting to go out a bit more together. Next Tuesday is the first one, for dh's birthday.

Eshay · 29/03/2005 10:47

Spacecadet, I am from the Netherlands (but live in London) so my dad speaks Dutch. I'm glad to hear you have someone to share experiences with. Like you, my dad's attacks would sometimes last days. All he could do was sleep it off on the sofa (with a bucket next to him). He could not walk or crawl anywhere, let alone upstairs to his bed. I think it's very common for different people to have different degrees of attacks. Sounds like you are one of the unlucky ones. At his worst, my dad considered having the nerve in his ear cut but since he's almost deaf in the other ear that would have left him almost completely deaf. Your doctor is probably right thinking the recent attacks have been caused by stress over losing the baby. My dad had an attack at my wedding! Luckily it wasn't a very serious one so we just put him in a wheelchair the rest of the day. You can imagine what some of our guests were thinking: "That man is having a heart attack and his family just sit him down and continue with the wedding!" He also seemed to have it more on hot summer days. Hopefully they'll get less frequent and less intense for you soon!

MrsEvs - I'm still laughing at "Bob Bob Bob". Your poor husband! I don't often give Thomas a whole meal of finger food but really that's just because I'm a bit impatient. I always give him as much food as he wants so I now have a fairly good idea of how much he can handle per meal. Often I give him a bottle afterwards so he can top himself up with milk until he is full. Sometimes he has 1 oz, sometimes 4. And sometimes (when I'm out walking and am being very lazy) I just give him 7 or 8 oz of milk and leave it at that. In total he has 4 meals (with or without some milk) a day.

Sponge, Thomas does the backwards shuffle too. No matter how hard I try to encourage him to move forwards, he'd rather collapse. Another trick is to turn round in circles until he reaches his goal! Of course night time is a different story - he always goes forward and gets his head stuck in the corner of his cot.

Spacecadet · 29/03/2005 10:57

sponge thanks for those encouraging words, ive changed my diet, etc, am on meds so we will see.Cant beleive your little one has 6 teeth!! Em has only just cut her first 2.Eshay, one of my Rl friends mum was dutch , my friend also sopke fluent dutch too.Did your dad have the actual spinning for days?? I have spinning, then days of chronic dizziness, great when you are looking after a baby and 3 others!!!How did you end up in London?? Sorry for being nosey!! I am from North Wales, but live in cambs, quite a contrast I can tell you!! I am fluent in Welsh!

Spacecadet · 29/03/2005 10:58

BTW;Eshay, rofl at that man is having a heart attack and his family just sit him down and continue with the wedding!!!!!

Sponge · 29/03/2005 11:11

You Dutch, you're so laid back.

sweetkitty · 29/03/2005 11:31

hi all

Hope you are feeling a bit better now Spacecadet you poor things ((((((((((hugs))))))))))

Abbie is also doing the rolling/dragging her legs around/going backwards but not quite got the hang of pulling her knees up yet bless her she gets around though. One of the biys at M&B is already cruising I can't believe it, he's a big lad though.

Abbie's got 5 teeth now number 6 just poking through. Solids going well she loves breakfast not too keen on lunch or dinner though well the main meals but loves anything to do with fruit she's a right little fruit bat. I'm not not worried she's only 8 months and still getting loads of milk. She's got a lot better with lumps and has pasta, lumps of carrots (which reappeared in her nappy still whole TMI I know), peas, sweetcorn, rice cakes, little bits of chicken etc she wants whatever we are having now (she had a piece of garlic bread in a restaurant on Saturday).

Talking wise everything is Dad, Daddy, Dada although she now says Mum mum when crying typical. She has a "whats that?" noise as well now like she'll look at something make the noise and you have to get her the object or tell her what it is - all very cute!

dinosaur · 29/03/2005 16:22

Last week was a big week for Blake - he cut his first tooth (second one appeared yesterday) and he learnt to crawl (forward)!

Now he's transferred his attentions to trying to stand!

He is gorgeous, and sleeping really well - 7.30 p.m. - 7.30 a.m. last night! I was late for work this morning as a result...

MarmaladeSun · 29/03/2005 16:55

Hello all. Sorry I haven't been posting since DD2 was born, but there just never seem to be enough hours in the day. I don't know how all of you find the time! Between baby signing classes, mother and toddler group, swimming etc...not to mention my studies and the other kids to look after I never seem to get on the computer. Still, I wouldn't have it any other way.
Well, to add my progress report, DD2 is now 8 and a half months old, and the proud owner of 6 teeth with 2 more about to cut. I think she may bypass crawling altogether as she has just started standing up by herself if she's sitting on your knee and she can reach the floor/settee with her feet and will take one or two steps to reach hands/seat etc. She also cruises around the furniture a lot now. The funniest part though is when she dances; if you say to her 'dance' she will boogie away grinning. Have to say she has her Mum's rythmn (thank God!!!)I'm still bf, but she is doing well on solids and will eat whatever the family eat. She just had a chicken roll for lunch, although some of it inevitably ended up on the floor, much to the dogs' delight.
Anyway, have to go as she is signing to me that she wants a breastfeed and sign language is infinately better than screaming for it, which will be next if I don't get my skates on and feed her!!!
Hope you're all well, and enjoying your little ones. Take care.

dinosaur · 31/03/2005 10:32

Blake's got ANOTHER ear infection (he had a burst eardrum at the beginning of January). We've got antibiotics this time and he's loads better already (started taking them yesterday) but I'm afraid he does seem to have a susceptibility to this (neither of the other DSs have ever had one).

sasa15 · 31/03/2005 14:20

ds born 1st of August...have you got any good day routine...still messing up with breakfast nap lunch nap....he sleeps at night,,,

please could you post your schedule....?

Could you include the type of food ....you give for the 3 meals?

if he wakes up late(8am)...then will be an hour delay...

milk 7am
breakf 8am (half weetab, with yogurt and banana)
nap 9am
lunch 12am (pasta dish with meat+pudding or fruit)
nap 12.30 (not always sleep)
milk 2.30-3.00 (not always want it 5oz)
tea 5pm (never know...sometimes jar)
milk 7.pm (8oz)
nap

sasa15 · 31/03/2005 14:26

I really want to get him in afternoon nap 2 hours....

sometimes he does ok...other time is not tired,,,
or he just doesn't want...

after half an hour often wake up..moans,has a poo and follow asleep again....

don't know.........

dinosaur · 31/03/2005 14:54

It is hard to get them to nap for two hours in the afternoon, isn't it?

I prefer it when DS3 has a long nap in the afternoon, because then he can last through to bedtime. But quite often he only has 45 minutes after lunch, which means he then needs a further 30 minutes from c. 4.30 p.m.-5.p.m to get him through to bedtime.

sasa15 · 31/03/2005 16:32

don't want give up....

what time do you put him down after lunch?

MrsEvs · 31/03/2005 16:58

OK, tried again with the home made stuff and once again she refused it. Gave her sweet potatoes and butternut squash (both if which she loves from the jar) but she spat them out in disgust!!

Those of you who are giving all home made stuff - what are you giving them? Can you give me an idea of what you make and how you offer it to get them to eat it? Would be v. grateful, I really want to get her off the jars but don't know what to do about it !

madgirl · 31/03/2005 21:13

this may sound stupid but why don't you try and copy the ingredients from her fave jar? the jars usually give the percentages of what goes in (ie, carrot 50%, apple juice bla bla) and then put it in an empty jar so she can see it. if you really want to get her off jars then maybe that's a way, but tbh i reckon once she gets into finger foods it won't be an issue anyway. hthx

Spongebob · 31/03/2005 21:45

Hi there. DS born in July04 is drastically cutting back on his milk, he has gone from having 24oz per day (last month) to having just 10-12oz, usually not wanting his mid afternoon bottle at all. I understood that they should be having still approx a pint a day of formula. Anyone else experiencing this?
