Hi all, I'm lurking at the mo (well obviously not as I'm contributing...) but my 4 nights as a single parent have started. It's amazing how little TIME I have!
So far so good though, as Iestyn slept well for me last night: 8-8, with 1 feed at 4am. Do whatever you can to make this continue!

TJuice how's it going with the dummy? I'm considering a similar thing but watching the situation at the mo. Last night he didn't do too badly.
Also stroller, I've just set mine up but as a rear facing one (so facing me). It's not satisfactory - I think it's the design. It's quite big when folded, and catches when unfolding. (Ali have you tried this?)

Deb great news! I also think of you now because PP pointed out the Made in Austria on the MAM dummies too. So DebMAM?!

Naps - no routine as such but definite naps during the day: morning, lunchtime (quite long), then 1 or 2 in the afternoon/evening.

Umm... can't remember what else there was.

Off to Baby Massage at the drop in clinic now. It's next door to the drop in heroin clinic (rehab). I seem to be the only one who finds this hilarious. (Total relaxation whichever door you enter??)
The addicts get biscuits, baby clinic only gets tea. I'm sure that's telling too.

Deb - hurrah - a UK chick again. Can't wait to see the programme and I hear mismatching colours are so now!

Five - Luke has dropped both the dream feed and the night feed at once. He refuses any food at 11.30 but we still wake him up for it to check but we are going to stop now. He does wake at about 4.30/5 but again doesn't want food I just turn him onto his side or give him a dummy and then he sleeps till about 6. He has had a couple of times where he has woken at 4.30 and then stayed awake for half an hour but we are looking good for him sleeping through soon I hope. Isn't that weird though that he just stopped wanting it? Both at the same time? hmmm babies are strange.

Essie - herion clinic next door to baby massage - nice! I've seen your pictures - where do people get heroin from in that lovely idylic countryside?! I can't imagine there's a dealer in your local pub!!

TJuice · 14/10/2008 11:14

hi deb - can't wait to see it - when does it air? might not get it for a while here though

essie - i am still mentally gearing myself up to dropping the dummy. also need full dh support. the problem is that we also rock her to sleep so that will be going too and i think it a bit traumatising. its just not sustainable though - i can't keep rocking her to sleep because i have buggered up my back and shoulders. last night i rocked her for an hour at 4 and was awake from the pain at 6am have an ultrasound on it today though and have been prescribed physio and acupuncture(?!!) by my doctor.

anyway, we will start on thursday i think. i will start with no dummy for daytime naps and then do the night shift.

hedgehog1979 · 14/10/2008 12:57

Just a quick one, Isaac has his final set of jabs at 14:30, and have been speaking to my NCT friends this morning while swimming and they recommended calopl before.....But how far before.
Can anyone help?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/10/2008 13:34

HH have bnever given Calpol before just if he needs it after, DD didn't have it at all S had it after the last ones.

needahand · 14/10/2008 13:46

Debs glad you had a good time. Can't wait to see the program now, you'll have to tell us when it is on! Hope Ethan is better now.

As for me, I am very very tired, SJ still wakes up up to 4 times a night, I really don't know what to do with him? Perhaps I should try to let him cry and see if he will settle again? Or shall I stop bf and starting fully ffeeding him? I am paranoid that I don't have enough milk to feed him and that it is why he wakes up so much (which is probably silly as he is on two meals of baby rice a day, he can't really be hungry can he?)

He doesn't sleep that long in the day either maybe 20 minutes morning and afternoon and an hour max at lunch time. DD did and still does sleep more than him! Even at lunchtime

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/10/2008 14:01

Needahand - is he still having the same amount of milk during the day as baby rice has less calories then milk and so that could be a reason for waking up.

Welcome back Deb

needahand · 14/10/2008 14:38

Sophie it is hard to tell really as I am bfing but I have this feeling that I have less milk and am wondering whether I should just switch to formula. He has milk at 8.30, 11.30 baby rice and 2 oz of formula at about 12.30 then milk at 14.30 then milk at 17.30 or 18.00, baby rice at 18.30 with 2oz of formula then milk at 23.00 then he wakes up at about 4am and has 7oz of formula. He was waking up before we started weaning him too. And he wolves down his baby rice like he is starving the poor mite

Amberc · 14/10/2008 16:03

Needahand, I think they are meant to have their milk in the same proportion as before plus the baby rice so 2 oz baby milk is not enough really I guess. Maybe he used to have 6 oz of baby milk at each of the rice feeds and now only has 2 - that's more than one milk feed missing. Dunno - I'm no expert though.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/10/2008 16:43

Amber it does depend on the baby, DD was on 5 bottles a day as soon as she started weaning that quickly reduced until by 10 months she was on 2 bottles.

Needahand sounds like you have a very hungry bambino so no suggestions other thane maybe adding some vegetables with baby rice. I didn't BF so don't know if FF is the way to go but DD was on 9 oz 5 or 6 times a day at 20 weeks which was when we weaned her.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/10/2008 16:45

Actually Amber's idea is a good one and try giving more milk when doing baby rice, maybe make up a bigger bottle, give half, then baby rice and then see how much he will drink after that as well.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/10/2008 17:42

I am now depressed, thought I was making good progress with buying presents but have just written down my list and have 40 to get and have done 11.

LauraT · 14/10/2008 18:15

Whinegums Katyjo we should probably specify whereabouts in Silverburn?? Whinegums, you're a regular, what can you suggest?

C is currently enjoying nappy free time, I think she would happily kick her legs in the air for hours...

also, she has been in buggy mode since about 10 weeks as she hated lying completely flat at that time, buggy completely reclines though.

Deb glad you've come to a decision, looking forward to seeing your programme!

PiggyPenguin · 14/10/2008 18:18

5gomad - you're depressed about present buying! but you are doing so well. So far I have a Francesco da mosta dvd for my mum, four dragons for ds1 and a soap making kit for dd. Really really need to do some shopping...

Katyjo - good to hear from you. I was wondering how you were getting on with the switch to ff as we were having breastfeeding weight issues at the same time - although I am still having them! Good to hear that you are so relaxed about the centiles - they are the devils spawn and we should repeat that to ourselves daily!

With regards to daytime naps. Jamie will only feed when asleep so he naps on the breast. Generally this is around 10.30, 1.00, 3.00 5.30 and 7.00 before he goes to bed around 9.00. He is obviously not properly asleep though and wakes up as soon as he comes off, which is generally after 20 minutes or so. Sadly only around 4-5 of those are actually spent feeding the rest of the time he is just asleep. This lack of proper sleep and proper feeding is probably why he is waking me up for food every 2 hours or so during the night still. Yes I do have bags you could fit a weekly shop in.

spongebrainbigpants · 14/10/2008 19:41

Hedgehog, sorry much too late for you but if anyone else is interested I gave calpol to Alex half an hour before his 12 wk and 16 wk jabs. Worked a treat.

Essie3 · 14/10/2008 20:03

Not much to report here - the baby massage was great, Iestyn is sleeping so let's hope it lasts!
Amber idyllic countryside hiding a shocking heroin problem actually - it is available down the pub here! Really and truly! It comes in from Liverpool - the fast new road they finished a few years ago made the transportation of drugs much easier. It arrives on a Wednesday.
Seen the lovely photos of the suspension bridge to the island? They photoshop the mega Samaritans notices and phones all around because the suicide rate is v. high here too.

Sad, really.

Essie - Blimey - I thought it was bad round Waterloo station!

Very pixellated and rubbish quality as on my crappy phone but check this out - the speed Luke manages to get up on his baby walker! He owns the living room now and we've had to take all the rugs up!

Lewis Hamilton watch out!

needahand · 14/10/2008 20:12

Amber he has is baby rice feed on top of his normal bf. This said I have tried as suggested by you and Five to give more formula. I gave hime 5 oz tonight and he drank the lot. And I am not lying he threw himself on the spoon again and within 3 minutes he has eaten all his baby rice . At the moment I only give him one table spoon twice a day but I definitely will try veggies this week, I wanted to wait till the end of the week has he hasn't been on rice for a week yet. The funny thing is that he holds my hand and the spoon when I feed him and if I am not fast enough he pulls on it! I bet the HV won't be impressed when I see her on Thursday though.

40 present Five, you'll give Santa a run for his money! Hmm so far I have...none...as usual.

poppy34 · 14/10/2008 20:27

at five.. have just sent dh off to airport with orders to get dsd present -and that was making me feel smug...

Amberc how cute is luke..loved that video.

dh away again so home alone for few days - had unsuccesful attempt to go to buggy fit today with friend from ante natal. well turns out the teacher wasn't there so we went for coffee instead ..however am slightly put off by lady we met - no offence-but she was done out in posh lycra, looked very fit and had a super duper racer pram (you know the type of things -phil and ted meets mercedes AMG plus there is probably a picture of said lady under yummy mummy in dictionary )... said she was waiting to meet a friend to do class by herslef and we could join in.. we politlye refuse.d then saw her and mate poudning round the green for nearly an hour.

Am now put off - I'm keen to get into fitness but thought buggy fit was for all - my trusy maclaren (let alnoe me) would not hold up to poudnign round grass for an hour so I'm not sure if I'll bother again (nothing against heavy exercise but think gym/creche route may be better on all concerned - can't see edie appreciating the pounding much more than the pushchair would). Am bit about it now which is very unfair as not actually been to class

Amberc · 14/10/2008 20:32

Thanks Poppy re vid - if only it was better quality. I am with you on the whole running mummies/buggy fit thing. Everyone in Greenwich owns a Bugaboo except me and my boneshaker Pramette wouldn't take the pounding. A bit of it has already fallen off!!

spongebrainbigpants · 14/10/2008 20:46

Amber, cute vid!

poppy, try not to be put off - our buggy fit class is very mixed, some of the women run/sprint the whole thing but then some of their babies are 8 mths + so they've had alot more time to get back into shape! I walk/power walk/stagger round most of it! The lady who runs it is lovely and always encourages us all to go at our own pace - I have a niggling foot injury so am usually at the back but I love doing it and meeting all the other mums (there's usually 16 + of us!).

Plus I use a Mclaren - nothing fancy!

Maybe give the class a go and if you don't like it don't go back!

poppy34 · 14/10/2008 20:47

I hear you amberc... I couldn't collapse the bugaboo when pregannt plus it weighed a ton and my tightarse tendencies came out when I saw price of it

poppy34 · 14/10/2008 20:48

awww thanks sponge that makes me feel better - my friend and I were all psyched up to go .. then put off - I felt just like being at school and being last to be picked for netball

spongebrainbigpants · 14/10/2008 20:54

poppy, I remember that well! Was always picked last for any team sport - when I became a teacher I picked the teams myself to spare any child the humiliation I went through!
