Seeing as it's a quiet time...

OP posts:

aw amberc sorry pills aren't working ..btw thread here that you could probably usefully give advice on (re where to get married in malta)link

para -fleur is getting to be a big girl - esp stealing her mum's food..patches to help her breath sound a good idea..think you're right re sleep being age thing - lots of friends have said it goes up/down but does settle and I think around 19/20 weeks is (yet another) growth phase

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/10/2008 16:30

Paro my lovely old HV suggested doing veggies first as the babies get used to savoury before sweet.

Poppy she was snatching food and watching, her intake of milk hadn't changed.

Amberc · 11/10/2008 16:31

Poppy - not that the pills aren't working, it's the side effects that are making me feel rubbish. It takes time for them to do the trick but I promised myself never to take anti Ds so am fretting about that too.

No thoughts of weaning here. Got all my gear ready (I did buy the baby blender and steamer soz but couldn't resist!) and will probably wait till mid November when he's 5 months so a middle ground. He's not showing any of the signs yet. He would put food in his mouth but only because he puts everything in there and he doesn't drink a full feed either so may as well wait. All this talk of allergies and eczema in later life have put me off doing it early.

poppy34 · 11/10/2008 16:42

amber did doc say when anti ds likely to start being effective or is it variable? I think its not helped as there is such a stigma attached to that kind of thing (there shouldnt be but there is).. I kept it very quiet that I was seeing a psycho therapist after all the various pregnancy issues/losing my son for fear of being labelled a neurotic etc woman.
FWIW I think you're doing great and lukes a little charmer - is he still keen on his walker toy?

Know what you mean re the weaning (I've managed to resist the steamer/mixer thing but thats only cos I bought the changing bag this week)... not much interest here either hence interested to see what 5gomads experience was.

Still have bad shoulder but think its due to monkey position cuddling.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/10/2008 16:43

Oh and can't believe it but Edie was in the sea again today quite happily on 11th October in a swimming anppy.

poppy34 · 11/10/2008 16:45

was it warm or is she just a tough little thing 5gomad?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/10/2008 16:46

The weather is georgeous, sea not bad but yes she is extremely tough.

spongebrainbigpants · 11/10/2008 19:24

Hi guys, back from my holidays but can't possibly catch up with everything that's been going on! We had a wonderful time in the New Forest and Alex was an angel - I think he really enjoyed having both his mum and dad around for the week.

I'll try and comment on what I can remember:

teething - no sign of teething here. Occasional appearance of red cheeks, and he's chewing everything like mad, but nothing else. Love the new thread title though!

feeding - Alex is on 6 feeds a day of 8 ozs and rarely leaves a drop. He has a very big appetite so we probably will wean earlier than 6 mths but trying to leave it as long as possible.

eternity rings - I'm getting an eternity bracelet for Christmas. I also can't get my rings back on yet, and have never esp liked my fingers so don't want to adorn them with more jewellery then necessary!

Malta - Amber, didn't realise you were Maltese! My parents lived in Malta when I was conceived but returned before I was born - so I missed out on being Maltese by a few months! We went on holiday there a couple of years ago and I loved it.

Really sorry to hear you're struggling. I also resisted taking anti-ds when depressed with my infertility but that was because I was worried about the effect on the baby if I did get pg. However, I do know others who took them and found them to be fantastic to help them through a tough time. Maybe worth going back to your GP.

Well, that's it for me. Back to watching SCD!

spongebrainbigpants · 11/10/2008 19:26

Quick question on naming ceremonies as someone mentioned christenings.

We're having a naming ceremony for Alex next Spring but can't think of what to call his "god parents". Does anyone have any suggestions or anything they have heard from others?

We have heard of sponsors, mentors, guide parents, guiding stars, friend parents and special friends (sounds dodgy!) but are not really wild about any of them. Any suggestions gratefully received!

katyjo · 11/10/2008 21:14

Hi All

Just trying to catch up on two weeks of posts. We had a fab time away and I'm feeling quite relaxed at the moment. Watching x-factor as have been starved of crappy tv for 2 weeks!

Laura I missed you glad you're ok. You are totally right not to worry about Charlotte's weight, I was so worried about Mia she kept dropping through the centiles and I gave up bf (other reasons as well) but I don't think it made a difference to her appetite, she isn't a big eater. If C wasn't getting enough you'd know about it. I've not been back to have Mia weighed since I stopped bf, I was worried she might have put on less weight than bf. I will get her weighed eventually, but she's happy etc and I hate those charts, the've got alot to answer for if you ask me!!

Amber Sorry about the sleeping problems, I def recommend some kind of relaxation/excercise classes, pilates, yoga etc Also great for meeting other Mums. I hope your feeling better on your tablets, if not go back to the GP.

I better get to bed, on night flight home and although wasn't too bad, didn't get much sleep!

spongebrainbigpants · 11/10/2008 22:22

katyjo, welcome back, glad you had a good holiday!

Meant to say, about the weight thing, 3 years ago I lost 72lbs in 4 months so your typo wasn't so crazy Amber! Back on the same diet now, but not having so much success cos struggling to stick to it 2nd time round - but needs must. Have lost 22lbs so far, but many more to go!

Amberc · 12/10/2008 07:48

Sponge - what diet is that?!!!

katyjo · 12/10/2008 08:28

Thanks sponge i want the diet details!!!

goingfor3 · 12/10/2008 09:00

Really interested to know your diet details sponge !

Re weaning I started ds at 20 weeks because he really seemed ready. After he was ill he really was trying to catch up on his weight and his feeding did settle for a couple of days after a few days of non stop feeding. After the two normal days he seemed to be having a growth spurt but it lasted for 5 days and he stil didn't seem happy after a feed, he also was really bad at night and wasn't napping very well in the day and my nipples were really sore! Yesterday was only the second day but he had a whole banana at lunch time and had a much better night. I'm going to try to stick to one meal a day for two weeks at lunch time and then introduce breakfast.

spongebrainbigpants · 12/10/2008 09:26

Lighter Life

Link above. It's a very drastic diet and you have to be more than 3 stone overweight to do it but if you have the motivation it works! I lost over 6 stone on it 3 years ago and only put the weight back on during my pg. It was amazing for me as I had struggled with every diet on the planet and needed to lose weight to have IVF so I was pretty desperate!

In fact I have 3 other friends who lost weight on the LL diet and went on to conceive naturally after years of infertility - a real miracle diet!

goingfor3 · 12/10/2008 09:35

I was worried that's what it might be, only worried because it's so expensive!

spongebrainbigpants · 12/10/2008 10:05

It is very expensive, but if you think about the amount of money you save on groceries by not eating then it doesn't actually work out as much as it first looks. Although, having said that, with 3 mouths to feed in your house you might not notice much difference!

Tbh, if I wasn't so desperate I wouldn't be doing it (i.e. if I was younger, or didn't want another child), but desperate times and all that . . .

LauraT · 12/10/2008 15:32

thanks whinegums, katyjo and allnew!

I am currently trying to motivate myself to increase my exercise quota... have any of you tried powerplates? I went to the gym for the first time post baby yesterday and had booked into the class - it was absolutely hilarious, for one thing, there was no-one else in the class so I essentially had a personal trainer for half an hour! you do exercises eg tricep dips/ lunges on a vibrating plate - it feels like a washing machine on a spin cycle! bizarre!

Charlotte and I got stranded by floods on Friday! we'd been to visit my Mum in rural south west Scotland and had planned to head home on Friday morning, only to find that the roads back to Glasgow (in fact the only road to the nearest town) were flooded! luckily we had enough nappies for another day and they'd abated by Saturday morning! I had visions of having to hitch a lift on a tractor to get to the shops - should really take washable ones with me to my Mum's!

Whinegums when are you back from your week away? Are you free Thursday 23rd? I'm away the following week... katyjo are you free then?

right, better get back to convincing Charlotte that she's hungry and doesn't want to vomit up her feed...

Sponge glad you had a good trip! I'd wondered where you were... we're having a blessing for C (not in a church) but we're just going with Godparents as, like you, thought all the other names were a bit 'meh'. suggested Oddparents, but they weren't impressed!

Lin06 · 12/10/2008 17:43

Will watch with interest about weddings... We have four over the next year. We're hoping to be able to get some bargins to wear in the january sales for the one at the end of january. We're hoping T will sleep at the reception in his pushchair, as he seems to be getting into a pretty good sleep routine. How have others handled babies at events like weddings?

spongebrainbigpants · 12/10/2008 18:28

Laura, lol at Oddparents - will suggest that to our friends!! It's so hard isn't it - as a hardcore atheist (as are our "god"parents!), I really couldn't use the word "god", but the alternatives are all a bit New Age for me!

Will keep on thinking!

Amberc · 12/10/2008 20:17

sponge how do you know if you are 3 stones overweight? Is that 3 stones more than you want to be or 3 stones more than you should be - who says what you are meant to be?

whinegums · 12/10/2008 20:27

Hiya, welcome back Katyjo. Laura, yes, I am free on the 23rd - we're away this week.

Just a quickie - dinner nearly ready - hope everyone else is well.

poppy34 · 12/10/2008 20:38

hi all...sorry quick skim of posts as done in.

laurat yes I've done power plates and it is bizarre but apparently quite effective - my pilates trainer has just bought a plate and is weaving it into his routines (not tried yet as still getting back to something approaching pre baby stance). Going to go to buggy fit for first time on tuesday as need to get some aerobic fitness back.

sponge same here -its chew and lick all the time but no teeth... am not too unhappy as don't want my bub to grow up too quickly

anyone else got nap routine going (apart from amberc) ie set times etc... edie sleeps roughly three times a day (morning, lucnh and mid afternoon) but never for very long -want to get a bit more structure so she can get to state where having one proper nap at lunchtime. any tips/advice (looking hopefully at the likes of 5gomad who are experienced mummies).

TJuice · 12/10/2008 21:03

is anyone on here trying to wean their LO off the dummy?

i have to wake up a few times a night to replace it when it falls out of elodie's mouth and have decided it has to go now. i am sure she will sleep better without it too.

To the mums with older kids - at what age can you use a tippy cup and also when should you put your pram in stroller mode?

ThePenguinProject · 12/10/2008 21:41

Just had a quick skim of posts, lots this weekend.

Amber - No advice re: your pills, but thinking of you.

Essie - I LOVE the Lin and Leo bags. I seriously coveted one whilst pregnant, but ended up deciding not to pay that much....then I ended up getting the petit planet one! I wish I'd got the Lin and Leo one instead though...

5GoMad - Interesting theory re: savoury veg before sweet fruit.

Sponge - Instead of Godparents, R will have three Fairy Godmothers based on these three from sleeping beauty and VIPs. Different VIPs have will have different toungue in cheek responsibilities, a guitarist friend will be responsible for his musical education, a policeman friend will be responsible for keeping him on the straight and narrow etc.

LauraT - I love Oddparents, might use that instead...

I've done Lighter Life too. I lost 3 stone in three months as promised, so I agree it works if you stick at it. Amber - I can't remember how they assess the 3 stone thing but seem to recall that you had to have a BMI of 30 or more.

KatyJo - Have you seen the Peter Kay take off of X factor on tonight? I'm not a PK fan, but it was really good. DH has now turned to Stephen Fry and I can't really complain as I'm on the PC...

London Ladies - Are we meeting up this week?
