Seeing as it's a quiet time...

Sponge for my sake I'm not going to suggest that DH sponsors you. The Children's Society would do well but they'd have to give me the money back to feed my own little boy!

AH is 'prize for a poo' a Gina Ford recommendation, or is it Baby Whisperer potty training technique? Must be great to be a toddler though!

I failed to mention my shite night last night. Iestyn woke at 10, 10.45 so I fed him. Then there was a disturbing noise on the baby monitor and I thought he was choking or something (er, what on?!) so I dashed upstairs to watch him straining over the last bit of his monster poo, and laughing at me. 1 nappy change later, Iestyn was wide awake.
He finally settled, and then woke for a feed at 1am, again at 3am, again at 5am, and then the long stretch to 8.30am.
But a funny thing - I haven't woken in the night looking for Iestyn in the bed for ages. Last night, though, I told DH that Iestyn wasn't feeding and should I put him on the other side? DH pointed out that Iestyn was in his cot in his own room, and that I was breastfeeding a baby-sized roll of duvet instead. And I really mean breastfeeding - I had undone the clip on my bra and everything!

Knackered today so everyone send me happy vibes so that my Lin&Leo bag arrives!

UDC I'll break my silence with you to tell you that I'm in South London, a short pram walk away from them creme eggs... And I liked you before!

PMSL at you bf-ing the duvet Essie - think my pelvic floor has just collapsed!!!

Essie3 · 05/11/2008 15:32

I know, so embarrassed but can see the funny side.

It was a bad latch, though.

D*mn - our buyers just got rejected for the mortgage they were pre-approved for so our sale fell threw. And we'd just viewed a lovely house and were planning to make an offer I'm tempted just to take the house off the market and wait for things to start moving again...

bitofadramaqueen · 05/11/2008 16:57

Thanks to all for weight sympathy, it makes me better that some of you are in the same boat. When I got wed two years ago I was a size 10, now my bottom half is a 16 . So much for walking off all of those creme eggs (please god no, dont let them be in the shops again already!). Deb can you link to your weightloss support thread? (If I go looking for it I'll get distracted and never get on with my chores ) It's the snacking that's a killer for me too.

Toys/dummies & sterilisers. The milton wipes are very handy for wiping down such things, although I tend to use the dummy in my own mouth method fairly often too...

PP I've given up baby cinema now as S was starting to play up every time. It was starting to get a complete waste of time. Although the last film we went to was brideshead revisited so I dont blame him for being grumpy... I'm also putting off weaning as long as possible (sheer laziness, I'm only just getting the hang of everything else) and planning to get tips from everyone else on here.

Sponge I maybe passing on a load of rubbish, but I think the 4am waking time might be better for you? Something to do with the different stages of sleep and the part between 11/12 and 4 being most important. Not really sure though.

Sorry about the house stuff AH. That really sucks.

Essie LOL at you bf your duvet. Last night I woke up thinking I'd squashed S. It was obviously a premonition as he ended up being a complete devil and we brought him into bed with us about 3.30am just to get some peace.

On weaning again... Anyone with Gina Ford babies doind the AK route? Interested to hear how you adapt AK for Gina routines as they're a bit different. S is almost full-time Gina now, although I let him in buggy/car etc and not just in a darkened room.

Right that's me caught up for the day I think. Sorry for mammoth post!

Amberc · 05/11/2008 17:00

Oh dear AH - we are taking ours off the market too and will start again next year I think.

Essie - you are clearly a sleep deprived mentalist!!

Used my apple puree I made yesterday that Luke cried at and mixed it with baby rice and he ate it today. I tasted it and it was lovely - I finished off the bit he didn't eat! Have bought sweet potato, squash and pear to try next in the baby cook which clearly I am in love with.

hedgehog1979 · 05/11/2008 17:09

afternoon all, Have solved my play gym dilema, being a good guide guider I have rigged the bar from the playgym over the tummy time mat et voila.

essie Once I have finished all the christmas knitting I may give that scarf challenge a go.

SBBP my mum has bought me the blw book for christmas but has realised she has bought me too many presents so I am getting it at the end of the month so no one else feels jealous that I have more presents than them

AH sorry about your house, can remember that happening many times as a mortgage advisor - we'd do all the pre approval stuff then people would send in their payslips and application form and they had over inflated their salary or didn't understand the difference between BASIC and Overtime/Bonus and try as hard as we might we wouldn't be able to get approval, and had to ring and give the news - 'but you said it was guaranteed...'

got some strange looks in TESCO earlier - I had in my basket
10 cartons of Bicarb
10 cartons of Cream of Tartar
1kg of Skimmed milk powder

I will tell you tomorrow what it is for, but feel free to guess.

Off to the scout hut later for bonfire and fireworks. Isaac loved fireworks the last time he saw them (9 weeks ish) so hope he is still happy with them...

hedgehog1979 · 05/11/2008 17:10

Parofleurmapu · 05/11/2008 17:50

ok thats posts answered
Now a quick rant or vent Im so confused!

Had appt with HV/paed today to discuss how weaning/solids going
She mentioned these points bout my routine what im doing:

  1. Ooooh veg not really til 9 mths!!
  2. If you want her to stop doing waking thingy from 3am put cereal in her last bottle
  3. She is having too much at once FF feeds need 4 hrs to digest so you should:
7am Cereal with FF 11am Lunch 3am FF 7am Dinner 11pm FF(with magic sleeping cereals!!!)

I showed her AK routine and she just said yes but if you BF and give fleur breakfast at 7am thats too much and by 11am she wont eat !!! Uhhh why does she scream for bottle then

I told her today she did 7amBFand brekkie 11am 5ozFF 1pmBrocoli 3pm 4ozFF 5pmPear and at 7pm she will have FF and again at 11pm oooh not enough time between FF and food to digest!! But she cried for food at 3pm even though she had milk at 11am and lunch at 1pm

Sorry i know spanish are weird sometimes and DP says Forget them , but I am doing it right no?

goingfor3 · 05/11/2008 18:59

OOOH Hedgehog are you making bath bombs?

goingfor3 · 05/11/2008 19:00

Paro, why 9 months for veg - surely easier to digest than cereals!

debinaustria · 05/11/2008 19:08

mmmm creme eggs drool - just think in years to come we will always look at creme eggs in a different way won't we?

Paro - you're doing it right, she's in the dark ages (may have to check that out with Essie)

spongebrainbigpants · 05/11/2008 19:21

AH, bugger - personally I would take the house off and wait til the economic situation improves, but obviously depends on your reason for wanting to move. There's very little choice available now anyway.

BDQ, thanks, maybe we need to start dream feeding again.

Amber, eating your LO's leftovers is a slippery slope girl!

Paro, yes Gill Rapley book. Just started reading it today cos mum and dad are here to spend some time with Alex so I actually have a chance to read!

Your HV sounds like she's talking b*llocks btw!

I bought The Guardian today, first time in months, again cos I would have the chance to read it, and guess what was in there?

baby led weaning

Can't escape it!

Took Alex for his first swim this morning and he loved it! However, all my RL friends had been telling me how much their LOs sleep after swimming . . . hmmm, Alex managed 2 x 20 mins naps today! I, on the other hand, went to bed for two hours this afternoon! Bliss!

Amberc · 05/11/2008 19:22

Paro - everywhere they say DO NOT put cereal in their bottles as it is a choking hazard.

HH - I am sooo intrigued at your recipe - clearly you are doing BLW - yum yum!

spongebrainbigpants · 05/11/2008 19:24

hedgehog, soda bread? scones?

Or am I just obsessed with food?!

Off to the dieting thread . . . !!

poppy34 · 05/11/2008 19:30

re cereal in bottle - if its such a choking hazard why is it sold as standard in spain and france ..are there loads of choking children there ??

poppy34 · 05/11/2008 19:30

ohh just realised that sounded bit grumpy.. was meant more as a grr about yet another confusing weaning thing

debinaustria · 05/11/2008 19:40

Sponge - just read the article and I agree with lots of it but snacking on a spring onion - surely no parent could be that cruel??

spongebrainbigpants · 05/11/2008 19:46

Deb, lol! I hate spring onions anyway so no snacking on them in our house!!

Parofleurmapu · 05/11/2008 20:03

Thanks guys i think i know im doing right and Fleur is sample of that she is happy and gaining weight Just needed pat on back

And bleerggh re spring onions!! Thinking of reading that book sponge sounds interesting

Yep poppy no idea no choking children that i know of and as far as i know you mix in the cereals but leave to consistency of milk so really no choking hazard at all, i think. I know 2 friends that do it all the time though

I wont do it though as I think it teaches the wrong thing bottles are for milk, cereal is in bowl with spoon!!!

Amberc · 05/11/2008 20:15

just going by the guidelines for GB....
