Morning all,

Had an okay night here ds only woke a couple of times!

Re modelling the best london agecies don't have start up fees they are Kids London, Bruce and Brown and Urban angels. I think UA charge for a photo session but only about £40. DS is with one of them and has had 5 or 6 M&S jobs. Money wise they earn around £50 and hour but get paid for a minimum of two! There are some other agencies that do charge to join but these fees can usually be covered with one job, but there are also quite a few scam agents out there too. DD was with one reputable agent for a year and only had one casting then changed to her current one and has had alot of work with them most recently French Connection and Junior magazine. It is hard work and quite boring for the parents to be honest but fun for the kids and seeing them in print/on tv is fab and makes it worth while. Apprently there is a shortage of babies so well worth giving it a go!

Re bottles DS was happy to take one and now shows no interest!

Parofleurmapu · 06/11/2008 11:49

Katyo - going out for walk now so might take up your advice!

BDQ - our LO sound exactly the same!! this is what Fleur is doing! Cant put my finger on why, also bringing her into bed with me but also dont want it to be a habit but soooo need the sleep!

Oh winegums big hugs xx and enjoy your walk

Hiya G43!

Oh and ive just made some AK Dried fruit puree and bleerrrggh it looks like what is supposed to come out afterwards not go in!!!

Hi Amberc saw you posted on weaning thread bout Lukes nappies is all ok? Can I help? Bit of an expert i think now in analysing nappies Fleur now goes 3 times a day!!Saves them all for me though, none at nusery or when dp is at home!!

aberdeenhiker · 06/11/2008 12:24

Neenz refusing a bottle at this age is really common. My DS1 did it right before I went back to work and I was frantic that he'd be starving at nursery but they got him to drink EBM from a cup and a bottle on the first day. It's just that our LOs are old enough (especially yours) to be able to make choices. Once they realize that the breast isn't a choice (i.e. they know you're not around) they will probably warm up to the idea of a bottle.

As for not introducing peanuts - someone pointed out to me that if the mums eat peanut butter then our LOs have been exposed to some extent just from our fingers etc. I will hold off on giving Fraser peanut butter until he's one year but it's such a miracle food for toddlers!

We had a horrible night here too but with DS1, poor soul was up throwing up all night. He's now lying on the sofa watching TV - it's horrible when they're sick!

goingfor3 · 06/11/2008 12:36

DD1 had peanuts butter at 9 months, DP often eats it and he gave her a bit of his - I was horrified when I saw what she was eating but she was fine and I let her have it after that. It is a really good food for little ones if there are no allegies.

Neenztwinz · 06/11/2008 12:38

Paro, thanks for the tips! Sounds common sense. We will try DH giving them a bottle in the evenings (after 7pm bedtime) when they wake (which is usually 2-3 times 7-10pm!). They are not starving hungry but I usually feed them (to get as much into them as poss in the hope they sleep thru!).

Dramaqueen, could it be teething? Have you given paracetemol? I was really wary of giving paracet at first thinking 'what if they don't need it?' but it is not harmful as long as you don't OD. My theory now is if they are doing something out of sorts ie are crying/awake at times when they would normally sleep then I give Calpol. If you can get hold of some I would definitely recommend Medised too! It is paracetemol but has a antihistamine in it to help them sleep. It has been reclassified as only for over 2s but it is not dangerous for young babies, unless you give it with other paracet products (which you wouldn't unless you are a moron which our govt clearly thinks we all are). So if you go the chemist they won't sell it to you for your baby but if you have a sister/friend who can get some for you I would get some!

Whingums, sorry you are not feeling too good. I am not surprised you are about your mum. You should ring her and tell her how you feel.

Sybil, yeah I have given potato too once before reading not to. My top tip is mix everything with sweet potato - they love it!

Neenztwinz · 06/11/2008 12:43

x-posted goingfor3, have tried cup but they won't drink much out of it. Might try the nuk cup with soft spout that was recommended.

katyjo · 06/11/2008 13:24

BDQ sorry you had a bad night.

sybil you would think hv would be giving accurate advice, although I didn't know potato was an allergy risk.

whinegums I going to waterbabies at the marriott on tues 1pm, start week after next so looking forward to it, maybe i'll see you there.

I just made banana bread so feeling highly domesticated! Although I used every utensil in the house and everything is covered in flour, so maybe i won't apply for housekeeper of the year award just yet!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/11/2008 14:30

Hello.

I ahve skimmed trhough posts but so many since I last posted so forgive me if I just catch you guys up.

We haven't had anyone in since Monday and I think it is one of those things that you keep going and when you stop for a significant amount of time then you realise how tired you are, which is bascially what has happened, so I am looking forward to s 2 week break, we go 2 weeks tomorrow.

I managed to get to Southampton yesterday and have finished (bar 2 presents) all of my christmas shopping so that is a grand total of 46 out of 48. It was nice to get a day to myself even though it was busy, managing to sit down for luncg and I treated myself to a consultation at the Bobbi Brown counter in John Lewis and spent far too much on make up but I think I need it know.

So children news, DD is fine enjoying nursery. They had school photos toady and I too S inso they could have their photo taken together, that will be GP's present in a nice frame. S went through a phase of waking up at 3 ish and then 5ish last week, we ended up sleeping on the sofa a couple of nights as we were worried he would wake the guests up. Didn't know what is was but figured that it could be cold so we bit the bullet and turned on the AGA and it has been keeping our room warmer throughout the night and so he is now back to nromal sleeping, although I still think that teething is not that far away. He is going to the Dr tomorrow as he has bascially thrown up after every single feed for about the last 7 weeks. He is on Gavsicon and I just get it from the chemist but not happy and I just want to get him checked.

And I think that is about it. Will try to keep posting a bit more, one more night with no people and then they start coming back tomorrow for the next 2 weeks, I really don't know where people are coming from at all

keep well everyone

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/11/2008 14:40

Oh and we haven't started weaning yet as he is not finishing bottles so not ready, aslo was told that no meat before 6 months and that was basically it, when I weaned DD we did a mixture of purees and finger food, so she would get cereal for breakfast, finger foo at lunch but only from when she could sit up by herself and puree for supper. Finger food was toast with bits and pieces on it such as hummus, eggy bread, smoked mackerel, cheese cucmber grapes etc.

bitofadramaqueen · 06/11/2008 15:29

Afternoon all, just catching up so I dont fall too far behind.

Neenz good luck with the bottle feeding. I might try some calpol, he's had it before once with his jabs so am happy to give it to him if I think it helps. I'm going to try a different type of dummy tonight - I realised he had the same new one for the last two nights (and it was different to his old ones). If I get another hellish night it will be calpol tomorrow! He is dribbling a lot, so it could well be the teething.

5gomad glad DD is enjoying nursery. The picture will be a lovely present.

whinegums in Edinburgh, a lot of the baby classes run in school terms, so it's definitely worth looking into them just now for January starts. S goes to swimming classes at the public pools and seems to enjoy it so far.

Am completely neglecting DS so better go and make sure he is ok!

pureeandpearls · 06/11/2008 16:27

Hey guys- haven't read back becaue have spent all day at docs.....babypearls has virus, thank God- when I found the rash I was beside myself with worry. Anyhow she's pretty sick- wants me to hold her all the time and will only sleep in my arms, so I don't think you'll be hearing fromme for a couple of days....

bitofadramaqueen · 06/11/2008 16:59

Sorry to hear that P&P. S had a viral rash last week - I spotted it on his hands then realised he was covered in it. No other symptoms though. Hope babypearls is better soon, and that you manage to get some sleep too!

goingfor3 · 06/11/2008 17:12

P&P hope your dd is feeling better soon. My girls had slapped cheek a couple of weeks ago and I was so relieved that ds didn't catch it to.

Re baby rice in bottles both cow and gate and hipp do a night time follow on milk that it thickend with rice and oats ( I think the hipp one is rice only).

poppy34 · 06/11/2008 19:10

hi 5gomad re doing xmas shopping adn make over...have also binned the weaning for now and interesting that you weaned your dd on mix of stuff -that sounds really godo idea if you can wait that long..edie likes taest of stuff and lunges for stuff to gnaw but doesn't seem to want baby rice. could it be that she just doesn't like it? am torn about when to restart it

feeling bit out of sorts( sympathy to you whinegums asm home alone - bit off of your mum so not surprised you feel like that) and dh out tonight ... edie been v.grouchy today -think she is getting a tooth..its not like she is really ill but super easy to get to grizzle and dribbling loads and gnawing her hand/toys on one side of her mouth - can't see any teeth coming through but to be honest can you see anything.

hedgehog fireworks sound fun -dh comes from round lewes and was always going on about how fab their display is (do they still burn the pope)? and thanks for weaning advice - really useful (and saves me going on to tehs scary thread)

neenz echo paros advice re bottles - a couple of nct lot had same issue and basically persistence (plus dh doing the offering) seemed to work. also the nuk teats (which are more breast shaped) seem to work better with the bottle refuseniks.

yay Deb re sleeping through -proves he can

First waterbabies class tomorrow (after having it put off loads) then off out to see queen with paul rodgers (yes after all my moaning my first proper grown out night out is to see this )

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/11/2008 19:18

Just shooting out, but poppy I never used baby rice, couldn't see the point of it, started on sweet potato, brocoli etc and mashed banana.

Amberc · 06/11/2008 19:29

Decided to stop any trace of weaning after the dodgiest nappy ever. I feel awful that I put stuff in him that could cause such a reaction.

debinaustria · 06/11/2008 19:49

evening everyone - well done Sophie for getting nearly all your presents, I thought I was doing well because I have got their stockings sorted!

poppy34 · 06/11/2008 20:23

amber you seem to be particularly unlucky with anything nappy related (thinking of your unfortunate bonding experience in the bath )

Amberc · 06/11/2008 20:34

Maybe Luke has a sensitive tummy - even more reason to wait until 6 months for me.

Neenztwinz · 06/11/2008 20:43

Amber, what have you been feeding him? Maybe too much fruit? Try sweet potato, swede or parsnips, I think they have less fibre in.

Re advice on potatoes, my HV said to give potatoes too - it is commonly accepted as OK from 6mths but my optimum nutrition for babies book says not till 9mths (and no wheat till 12mths! )

Baby rice I found it useful for thickening purees and also as a first food cos it tastes like milk (if made with milk!). Hipp do an organic wholegrain baby rice which is better than white baby rice (which is totally stripped of all nutrients), I also use quinoa flakes now (from health food shop), you can also use millet and buckwheat flakes (you stir them straight in the food) from 4-6mths. I always felt that a veg puree with baby rice was a bit more substantial than just the veg on its own (but it has maded no jot of difference to their sleeping!

Theo woke at 12 last night and Esther at 5 . One baby waking once I can cope with but any more than that and it is very tiring! Am beginning to think Esther's night waking is linked to earlier bedtime - I think she just needs less sleep so is going to be an early waker . All my sisters' daughters are the same.

I am so impressed at the rate cut - will save us £120 a month cos we are on tracker rate . Might buy the babies a Christmas present now (tho prob not )

Amberc · 06/11/2008 21:03

Completely changing the topic but the other day I said HMS Illustrious has docked outside my flat (literally outside the living room window as I live on the Thames). Well how lucky am I - just been treated to a magnificent fireworks display from a barge on the Thames in front of the ship for the crew. Had the entire HMS Illustrious crew on the runway thingy 'cos it's an aircraft carrier and launcher jobby (that's technical so I don't expect you to understand) singing Rule Britannia with amazing music being played over their systems - big wow. Erm...did wake the baby a bit though. Oh well. Apparently they are here for the Rememberence Day service. They were all out on the lash last night and left empty beer cans and bottles all over the pier and a half eaten kebab. Nice!

poppy34 · 06/11/2008 21:19

amber was there any sailor eye candy or was it too dark to see?

Amberc · 06/11/2008 21:23

Way too dark but I saw about 20 getting travel cards yesterday in their uniforms (the bell bottoms and bib uniform) and they all looked about 15. Shows how old I'm getting!

debinaustria · 06/11/2008 21:35

lol Amber!

Parofleurmapu · 06/11/2008 21:39

Evening all

Amber DP and I went on HMS Gloucester a few years back, they invited british expats who lived on the island to a formal do but it was the party after that was fun!!! I can vouch they sailors certainly know how to party!!

And re weaning poss he has sensitive tummy but i have found veg poos are less poonami than fruit ones!!! Weve had some wierd stuff here and today she had 3 dodgy poos!!! in 1 hr just after eating a Hero baby puree So i wont give her those again!!!

Neenz I have tried baby rice to thicken but here most of it is vanilla flavour!! so with veg it tastes funny, have bought some canarian stuff called Gofio which made of maiz but its really stodgy. Have no idea where to get quinoa might have a browse in a health shop here I f i can find one!!

No xmas shopping done at all here 5 go mad think ill wait til we come over!

P and P hope your LO is better soon
