Seeing as it's a quiet time...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
poppy34 · 29/10/2008 20:33

neenz am sure they copy.. have seen edie copying us a few times - chewing, kicking her legs (althoguh was more amused at seeing dh doing this to get her to copy)

spongebrainbigpants · 29/10/2008 20:39

neenz, talk about gender stereotyping being true - the girl talks, the boy moves!!

Amber glad you're pleased with the Mclaren - we have one too that lives in my car. Godsend!

poppy, have great image now of your dh lying on the floor like a big baby kicking his legs!!

thegreenfairy · 29/10/2008 20:47

Hi all. Sorry I have been awol for so long. Weirdly, as Storm has started to sleep earlier I seem to have less free time. Goodness knows why.
Anyhoo, I hope you are all very well. I shall try to catch up over the next few days and see what you've all been up too!
Storm is well and sleeping and eating solids (since 19 weeks, when her sleeping dropped by three hours...)
needahand I did get your text but have just changed phones so please don't think I was ignoring you!
I am back to work on Monday p/t which I'm dreading, but it seems Amber you've had some bad jobs news (have only read the first page) so really sorry to hear of your bad luck.
Catch up properly soon and love to all the mums and babes!
xx

spongebrainbigpants · 29/10/2008 20:50

Welcome back TGF!

Good to hear Storm is doing well. Sorry to hear you're starting back to work already. Lots of talk of work in here at the mo.

Amberc · 29/10/2008 20:56

Neenz - will swap you consonants for sleeping through the night!

Hi TGF!

Amberc · 29/10/2008 21:10

PS - How are the babies getting on with the tummy time crawling practice? What happens first crawling or sitting? Luke can only go on one side from lying on his back - nowhere near a roll yet. On baby centre, it says they should roll by 5 months - Luke's got 2 weeks otherwise he's obviously 'challenged'

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/10/2008 21:11

Ignore Amber Ignore, each baby develops at their own pace, some sit before they roll, some walk without crawlimg

Amberc · 29/10/2008 21:11

PPS what do you all think of this baby station

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/10/2008 21:13

And I wouldn't bother with that as it looks liek it restricts movement too much

poppy34 · 29/10/2008 21:13

bollox to that amber - edie got 2 weeks too or is challenged (perhaps her and luke can hang out at back of playground together and be picked last for teams at school ..). She can roll onto either side but that is about it. Will lie on tummy for bit and move head around, waggle legs but limited time span on this before ww3 breaks out and she wants to go back on her back.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/10/2008 21:14

And never did tummy time with DD or DS

spongebrainbigpants · 29/10/2008 21:33

Amber, Alex is exactly the same age as Luke and only did his first roll from back to front today. Some of the other babies we know are still not rolling and they are older than him, one is three weeks younger and rolls all the time. One of the girls in my yoga class is 8 mths and sits and crawls really well but has only just rolled!

As 5gomad says all babies are completely different and develop at different paces, e.g. some don't bother with the crawling stage and go straight to walking, some don't roll much, etc.

The same will happen with language development too.

Believe me, as I've said before, as a teacher I couldn't tell you which kids in my class rolled/crawled/walked/talked first. It has nothing to do with intelligence despite what some mums would have you believe!!

My advice - don't read baby books or baby websites on development!

ThePenguinProject · 29/10/2008 21:45

Needahand - Big hugs.

Poppy - Big hugs to you too (I initially wrote two then, so give Edie a hug from me as well )

Amber - Sorry about the job, that's crap. I know the maclaren won't make up for it, but I'm nearly as excited as you. Went for a long walk on Wimbledon common today and I tried to break my buggy so I could get a new one. Bl00dy thing's indestructible though.

Neenz - Rubbish day. Hope you get a good nights sleep tonight.

Essie - Ouch at the price of that hair stuff, esp as the site says it takes months to work....it also says to massage it in twice a day and I know I'd forget. Your frenemy is a complete bwitch.

So everyone has noisy shouty babies then? Glad I'm not the only one. Ryder has started screaching at the end of his laughs, it's ear piercing and girly .

Also are other babies going bald at the back of their heads? When does it grow back!?

Needahand - Your experience of the kari me is exactly the same as mine. Annoying isn't it? Although I will use it, I wouldn't recommend it Sponge. I'll bring it along to a London meet up if you want a try.

having a nightmare as the nursery that was recommended to me 1. doesn't have any places anymore and 2. I wasn't impressed with the ofsted reports either.... waiting for nanny shares, etc to get back to me now. Decided that if work will allow I would like for the "carer" to come to my house and look after Ryder. For the first month or so I will work from home on those days to make the transition easier for everyone....ok, to make the transition easier for me. It's only for one day a week initially.

Anyone else watching the family? I love the Dad in it.

Neenztwinz · 29/10/2008 21:51

LOL Amber at sleeping through v consonants! I think I'll keep the sleep thanks!

Esther is 25 weeks old and cannot roll over! When I try to show her by pulling on her hand and trying to turn her she plants her feet on the floor so it is impossible to roll her over! She is getting good at sitting but can't correct herself when she starts to fall. Theo is trying to crawl now when on his tummy, I don't think he is far off now. Esther just puts her face flat on the mat after about 30 secs of tummy time (I do it before their bath each night). She is just not interested in being mobile (a blessing for me!)

Well she has continued to wake up tonight, I fed her at 8.30 and she she slept for about 30 mins, the longest stretch of the evening, it has been more like 10-15 mins each time before waking and screaming. I gave her Calpol at 6 so maybe she is in some teething pain again by now... I can give her more at 10 (might resort to the Medised... don't tell social services ).

Yep, there she goes again

Parofleurmapu · 29/10/2008 21:56

Hello Gosh! what a lot of posts today!! We went out for day to new shopping mall as DP on hols so trying to catch up but cant pos respond to all

BIG thank you for sling advice, ive gone for the ellaroo sling in cielo(sky) colour and cant wait for it to arrive baby bjorn too heavy and pouch sling too uncomfortable now for Fleur

Sorry bout job amber hope something comes up soon
Hugs needahand im already feeling bad bout fleur going to nursery again tomorrow and its only 2hrs!! but have to go to rehab

Yep Fleur has found her voice too She shouts alot and says some consonant sounds too she can say ba mmmmm and da, is trying to say pp but ends up blowing raspberries. Her favourite thing to talk to are my crocs as you can see on her blog

Neenz Both Dp and I are assistants Dp nursery assistant and at mo Im a Yr1 assistant (though am a qualified nursery nurse) It is less work than a teacher but also think it depends how much you get involved birth dp and i are expected to do some of the planning He plans PE and me ESL and science but thats just our school i think. Im definitely not going to jump in and do as much as I did before Fleur. I was considering PGCE route before having Fleur but now seriously considering whether too or not. TESOL teaching is another idea. Ive just done a cert tesol and in future hope to work as ESL teacher in a school not as much planning but more responsibility than an assistant Any QÅ› just go ahead and ask also qualifications as ive looked at every option under the sun both distance and part time.

Hehe fungle re picking up what you say i find it funny to watch my children at school role playing schools I learn alot about what i say then too!!

I went to a private girls school for a bit too. My school i teach at is private and everybody assumes Fleur will go there too as she will get free place but think prefer local school for play dates and learning Spanish

Re copying im sure they do too when I concentrate hard i chew my tongue!! when massaging Fleur i do it and she does it too!!!

Hi TGF

And Fleur must be challenged then cause she is way past that mark and only rolls one way too!!!and i wanted call it rolling! must admit we don't do much tummy time as she hates it! we are getting stronger at sitting though cant do it unsupported but getting there

Neenztwinz · 29/10/2008 22:00

hey PP, yeah I've been watching the family, not seen tonight's episode yet (sky plus), every time they go on at Emily I'm like 'just let her do what she wants, she's 19!!!!' why does it matter to them if she goes out every night at 11pm?

Just been up to Esther, tried to shush her, she just screamed. Left her and now she has gone back to sleep. Weird

Parofleurmapu · 29/10/2008 22:00

Phew!!! sorry 4 that reaaaaaaallllllly loooooooong post!! (with mistakes!)

debinaustria · 29/10/2008 22:03

PP - Ethan has a lovely bald patch on the back of his head too

Amber - nowhere near rolling here, don't like the look of that baby station, we have one of these Galt baby nests from ds1. I'll be using it again soon, I like them as you can bolster them with cushions now, and if they topple forwards it's safe, also you can pile toys in front of baby and they're within reach and can't be dropped over side just yet.

Essie - just got out of the bath and the amount of hair floating was awful - doesn't paint a lovely picture does it? I thought I'd be kind to dh and put him some new water in!

TGF - glad to have you back

Neenztwinz · 29/10/2008 22:04

Thanks Paro, is it the same system where you are then as in UK? Would love to get a job teaching at a private school and get kids in for free/cheap (despite what I said earlier about not wanting them to turn out like public schoolkids!)

debinaustria · 29/10/2008 22:05

Sounds like fun and games at your house Neenz

Parofleurmapu · 29/10/2008 22:09

We work at a British school over here and we follow the British system but can adapt it to suit childrens needs and obviously language levels as most chd are spanish.

I like the idea of Fleur going to a private school, primary state schools here are good, secondary not so good so would prob move fleur into private at 12/23 if we stayed here

Parofleurmapu · 29/10/2008 22:12

I love the galt toys debs we have loads a school didnt realise you could get so many in shops too thought only through CES holdings catologue for school!

ThePenguinProject · 29/10/2008 22:25

I'm completely gutted - David Tennant has quit as Doctor Who....

debinaustria · 29/10/2008 22:29

oh PP how will they replace him? Wonder if they have anyone in mind?

ThePenguinProject · 29/10/2008 22:50

Deb, some of the suggestions thus far:

  • Russell Tovey (google him, he's from History Boys and is Russell T Davies' choice alledgedly)
  • Billie Piper (could be interesting..)
  • Robert Carlyle
  • Daniel Radcliffe (Surely not!)
  • James Nesbitt
  • David Thewliss

Thread hijack over - sorry to all non Dr Who fans....
