Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MadameOvary · 20/10/2008 18:04

Hi ThePFJ. So glad that Jack is okay - what a beautiful little boy.

Sorry if I am missing anyones news, just looked at this last page but...

[jumps up and down like excited schoolgirl]

After endless nighttime trauma and difficulty getting DD off to sleep,
tonight I gave her a dummy and she went straight to sleep

This is HUGE. We are talking the full almost instantaneous, eye-rolling five-seconds from awake to asleep.

I'd given her a dummy before but she hadnt been interested. However last night, after she started sucking ferociously on my hand (with teeth - ouch) and half-nodding off while she did it, I thought I'd try the dummy.
And wow - I still cant believe it.

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 20/10/2008 18:14

Apparently she has potassium around her heart. They have started her on dialysis to hopefully get her well again but if the potassium doesn't clear her heart could fail, and whilst the potassium is there if it does fail they won't resuscitate. The docs have given ehr a 50/50 chance but she is now in ITU and still not conscious.

DP has gone straight from work to the hospital.

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 18:30

VS hope your nanna in law gets well, and hope you are not getting too stressed about it. I have choclate and hot tea here so pretend you've had some and put your feet up and relax.

My HV rang earlier (she apologized for the whole accusing us of child abuse thing a while ago and is really nice to us now) offering a visit to see how we are coping with hospital - bless her. Told her is all ok.

Hi M2BBR and MO

xx

SalLikesCoffee · 20/10/2008 18:36

MommyHasaH - urgh, I completely forgot, wanted to show you when you were here for your opinion. I bought one, but think I'm going to return it (well, have to make final decision tonight, will have to post it back tomorrow morning) as it's not as nice in real life as I thought.

Re Gigi's midnight feasts - I read somewhere the other day that they have yet another (with R I suspect it's a daily thing) growth spurt around 6 months, so maybe that's what it is?

Brilliant news, MadameO!

VS, sounds rough, poor dh's first day out! Hope you're ok too.

Trains are rubbish tonight and I'm trying to keep R awake until dh here (he likes to help with his bath and put him to bed at night), but if he's not here in 30 mins I'm putting him to bed. I've given him his dinner and will start running the bath as soon as I finish here.

SalLikesCoffee · 20/10/2008 18:38

Hmm, just looked down at Roelof playing happily (it did get a bit quiet tbh), and saw him chewing on my boots!!! Seems intent on consuming all available bugs before his first birthday

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 18:40

awww..... hehe. Jack chews on everything too.

SalLikesCoffee · 20/10/2008 18:42

Hehehe ThePFJ. I really hope that "what doesn't kill them will make them stronger" line is true. He'll live to 100, easily!

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 18:43

Ooooo Sals my fav film is Shawshank too.

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 18:44

If jack can get through mrsa and ecoli with blood poisoning then babies are so strong. I wouldn't worry too much :P

SalLikesCoffee · 20/10/2008 18:46

PFJ. Jack sounds like one impressive little boy! Great minds on Shawshank btw!

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 18:49

Totally. I love the bit at the end when Morgan is narrating Andy's jailbreak...

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 18:50

Well have to feed Jack, I'll be here floating about if anyone is needing moi. xxxx

Denny185 · 20/10/2008 19:08

Welcome back PFJ, glad to see Jack looking so big and strong.

Havnt been on today, unable to get my feet to the floor due to severe cramp from crossing toes all last night glad it worked Sal

Done loads of xmas shopping today, only a few left and most of those I will make. Just the food to do in Dec hopefully.

Knitter, to follow up on the sleep thing, its up to u if u want to do it all in one hit, think u would be in 4 a hellish few days to start with if u did though. Would agree with VS, sort day b4 worrying re night, he needs to learn to self soothe in his cot by whichever method u feel will work 4 u CC/pupd/rocking/staying with him and gradual withdrawal etc. Hopefully once that is cracked he will naturally transfer that skill to night time.

BTW Sal/ladybee I have 10 toes I will cross again tonight and u can share

Peachy · 20/10/2008 19:26

Hello PFJ!

Hugs to Jack

Bas is OK, had a worrying time when he wouldn't gain weight and is still on the books as Failure To Thrive, but he is thriving and well. Just had a few allergies to combat and a rather demanding personality to learn to negotiate is all.

If you're on FB, my profile is claire peach and there are pics of bas there, our beautiful 7Th April babies can pal up

great to have you back

VS- all sounds scary, am thinking and praying for you all.

OK off agin- unwell baby seems to have learned about man flu

MadameOvary · 20/10/2008 20:05

Well that was a tad premature - she woke after 10 mins.
An hour later and still not asleep - currently babbling upstairs - probably resting her lungs before the next session.

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 20:24

Hi Denny and Peachy! Missed you

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 20:27

Re sleeping... I hold Jack's hand and sing him twinkle little star or lullaby and goodnight for a few mins. The sound distracts him from chuntering and he falls fast asleep.

Denny185 · 20/10/2008 22:01

Ahh, missed u too, glad u decided to come back, distinct lack of mini eggs round here over the last couple of months

ThePFJ · 20/10/2008 22:11

hehe. hugs denny

LadyBee · 20/10/2008 22:11

That sounds so lovely, what a sweet image

I was thinking about finishing BFing this evening and trying to decide whether I would start by switching to formula for his last feed of the evening - which is the one I think of as the one he's most likely to miss - and get the worst over first, or whether it would be better to go for an easier one, like the one that he has around 2/3.

Was thinking about this, because it dawned on me that I am coming back to the UK after my NZ trip only about 15 days before I'm due to start work and Christmas happens in the middle of that and it's all going to be horrendous.

And I did want to only do BFing on the plane, but I don't think 15 days is enough to get him down to enough formula feeds to cope with childcare..

Denny185 · 20/10/2008 22:15

Would mix feeding be a compromise? Still BF first thing and night but FF daytime so u wouldnt nec have to give up if u didnt want to.

LadyBee · 20/10/2008 23:39

I think/hope so, I just need to get to the point where if I'm getting him to childcare by about 8 am, and picking him up around 5:30, he is ok to take formula feeds during that span. And I'm ok not to be feeding
But that means I have to substitute for at least three feeds, maybe four - I was thinking allowing 4 days for each feed given up for my body and him to adjust..if it's three feeds, I could do it in 12-13 days, might just squeak in if it all goes ok.

God...that span 8-5:30 seems so long

Am not going to think about it. Just focus on the practicalities. I don't think he'll have a problem, apart from maybe that last evening feed - which I guess I can keep

LadyBee · 20/10/2008 23:41

bedtime. VS, I hope you have better news in the morning.

FrankenSoph73 · 21/10/2008 11:32
