Thought I'd start a new thread before we ran out of space! Couldn't remember the exact name suggestion so have paraphrased, the sentiment is still the same though...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Upsidedowncake · 22/08/2008 20:16

Sybil, how much does J weigh now? Could it be a natural slowdown in weight gain? BTW, to make you feel better, if he has reflux, formula would only make it worse.

katyjo · 22/08/2008 20:20

Glasgow gals Friday 5th would be great for me.

Laura lovely to meet you too! Charlotte seems like a really contented little girl, hopefully I can get my after school pass and join you ladies for a drink next week.

Allipalli I didn't loose the last 10lbs or so until I stopped bf (probably because I was enjoying eating cake) but I like to think it was body keeping reserves. I weigh 11stone 10oz but would like to get back down to 10stone 7oz or lower if possible!

Sybil Mia's weight gain has been pretty crap, so I am very of your 8oz! She gains on average about 5oz a week and has had 3oz gains, which make me pretty anxious. I have tried expressing and feeding her ebm via bottles but she still only gains 5oz so I guess its just the way she is. She is doing everything she is supposed to, sleeps well and seems content and happy but feeding at the moment is a pain. I don't think giving formula would help so I'm trying not to get too hung up on weight. Big hugs for you I know how distressing it is (Mia is only 11lb 3oz and nearly 3 months Hamish was about 14lb at the same age).

sponge I couldn't even think about another one yet, you are really brave. I can't imagine how difficult IVF is to go through, but you never know twins/triplets are always a possibility!

katyjo · 22/08/2008 20:22

Hi UDC Glad to hear Dorothy is more settled. Why do you take calcium supplements?

thegreenfairy · 22/08/2008 20:32

evening all

just a quickie as DH has gone out to buy condoms!

sponge don't worry, i didn't think you were being nosey

storm slept through again 9 to 4 last night! she's asleep now, so am interested to see how long she lasts this time - her bedtimes seem to be getting earlier and earlier

josey/needahand the cinema trip went well, storm was as good as gold. am glad her daytime routine is fairly sorted as i was able to leave clear instructions. someone else responded to this one but i can't remember who since i moved pages [idiot emoticon]

udc re giving up dairy - goats milk is probably fine - storm seems fine if i have it. there is also an icecream sub called booja baja (i think) which is made of cactus juice. sounds disgusting, but it's even nicer than icecream. they don't sell it in supermarkets but your local health food shop might have it.

re weight storm gained 13oz last week, and has gained about that most weeks. she is 14lbs now and long, so some 3-6month stuff doesn't fit her

ok, gotta go, appointment with DH beckons!

spongebrainbigpants · 22/08/2008 20:40

katyjo - twins or triplets?!! No thanks!

We had single embryo last time cos A was the only embryo created so we had no choice, but next time we'll definitely go for single embryo through choice. I didn't enjoy A's pg and I want to enjoy the next one - I couldn't do that if I was carrying twins. Too much worry and my SPD is also a factor.

And can you imagine triplets?!! Yikes!!

goingfor3 · 22/08/2008 20:46

Hello,

Re weight DS put on a pound a week for about three weeks and then the weight gain slowed right down. At one point he only put on 4oz in two weeks. He's now averaging 1/2 pound per week and is 14 1/2 pounds.

Upsidedowncake · 22/08/2008 21:54

Greenfairy, thanks for the Cactus ice-cream suggestion! Will try goats milk.

Am taking calcium supplements as breastfeeding leeches calcium from your bones - so giving up dairy is not recommended without taking a supplement.

hedgehog1979 · 23/08/2008 00:41

haven't read all the posts, plan on doing that tomorrow. Just wanted to let you all know that Isaac has survived his first gig. He was awake for the whole thing - started @ 6.45 finished with fireworks 11ish. Lots of interest in the lights, although I am a little bit worried about the effect of the strobes. Hundreds of smiles/coos/gurgles throughout. Hopefully he recognised the music as we saw the three bands during my pregnancy and it is about all that is played in this house. DH also got his red book defaced. It now has autographs on the picture pages - will never get thrown out now. Right must go to bed as my sister arrives in the morning

hedgehog1979 · 23/08/2008 09:15

morning all, Just seen the crap in the taekwondo on the BBC olympics ahhhh.

Right - apologies to anyone I miss

SBBP Re sleeping, read something that they sleep loads before a growth spurt to do the growing and then feed loads afterwards. This is certainly the case with Isaac. I can kind of predict when he is going to be growing due to his sleep habits, although he doesn't have a routine.
Re pissing off Inlaws - I have a multitude of ways to do it, including refusing to take the 20 mintue drive to see them when they can't be bothered to come over here, FIL has been here once, and seen Isaac 3 times since he was born, and he will be 9 weeks on Tuesday

weight gain Isaac gained about a pound every couple of weeks and when last weighed (at 7 weeks) was 10lb 13, he was 8lb when born. Will be going to get him weighed next week. Can tell he is growing though as he fits his 0-3 stuff a lot better and I have been starting to stock up in 3-6.
In contrast to Amber (think it was) loads of people bought us 0-3 and then 6m+. have got loads of 3-6,6-9 in white to dye though so hope weather remains good for drying

once I find my camera lead I will post some of the pictures from last night.

OK should now think about tidying the house, as my sister left home at 7 this morning and it is a 3.5 hour drive so will be arriving soon and I have piles of clean laundry all over the floor, and need to find some linen for the spare bed AHHHHHHHH

debinaustria · 23/08/2008 13:35

HI everyone

Sybil - hope that your lo is beginning to feed a little more willingly. Do you think your milk supply changed during your holiday? I put E to bed at 7.30 last night and he went through until 3.00 but then only took 1 boob and didn't empty it so I then expressed from that one and the other - getting 8 oz. I was really pleased but not so pleased when he woke at 6.00 and I obviously didn't have enough milk, I still felt really empty and it was as if he was refusing to drink when I just think there was nothing there. Just a thought.

My poor Mum has just had a flying visit to us - arrived Wed morning, depart Fri evening, I took her to the airport last night and when I got up this morning there was an e-mail from her to say that her flight was cancelled and she had slept at the airport last night - she said it was quite exciting!!

Hello to everyone else, we may not be in the UK but we have bank holiday weather here today - 12 degrees, and pouring down, yesterday I was swimming in the outdoor pool and the temp was 26 degrees!!

LauraT · 23/08/2008 13:36

anyone else fancy taking up team synchronized swimming in time for London 2012? What a hilarious sport!

weight gain: Charlotte has only been weighed twice so far since discharge from hospital, but seems to be growing fine, very long so well into the 0-3 months size. We also hardly have any clothes in this size though in comparison to 3-6 months in which we have enough to comfortably clothe triplets! Charlotte may end up with a new outfit every day!

Glasgow meet up, we're on for Friday 5th Sept at 1pm then, Josey please come join us if you're free!

TGF very intrigued by cactus ice cream... what was the reason for you (and UDC) excluding dairy? was it for vomiting? C has at least one huge vom every day, involving both of us having to change clothes and shower/bath, wondering if I should try excluding dairy too (although don't take a lot...)

Oooh it's the 4x400 relays.... what will I do next week with no Olympics? may need to invest in more DVD box sets, just about finished all the West Wing () so need suggestions of what to watch next...

LauraT · 23/08/2008 13:37

Sybil hope feeding is going better today, must be upsetting for you. do you have a Bf advisor you can contact for some support?

katyjo · 23/08/2008 16:31

UDC sorry I missed that you had given up dairy, but very wise to take a supplement.

Sybil Hope things are going better.

Upsidedowncake · 23/08/2008 16:37

Sybil, hope things are better.

Laura, yes, my reason for excluding dairy was vomiting and general unsettledness. She was sick about once a day - sometimes in the morning and sometimes in the evening, and sometimes both! I was always slightly sceptical of women saying they'd given up this and that, but when I gave up tomatoes, she stopped being sick in the morning (I spotted it after two bowls of gazpacho the night before), and she has been sick much less in the evening since I gave up dairy. She's also all round much more settled and less burpy.

Giving up dairy co-incided with her six-week growth spurt, so it could be that her digestive system settled down as part of that, but the improvement has been so marked that I'm too scared to try it. I've also lost about 4 pounds.

fungle · 23/08/2008 19:59

Evening all, christ, its hard to keep up here. I read ,his morning and tried to post but DP and Kids came back early from shopping
So here go's...
Feed Times....my big issue, thankyou Josey,BDQ and Paro for advice. I think we've cracked it!!
I bit the bullet yest and made her sit it out between the 7am feed and the next one. She was shouting for it at 9.30 as always(and normally only takes 2 1/2 oz) managed to spin it out till 10.30!! Pushing round in buggy mainly. But, that seems to have broken the cycle, as so drank a full feed then and then did'nt need another for 3 1/2 hours. Gives me hope to eventually build up to the 4 hours as she gets bigger, Hooray!!
My doing lots of walking....a few comments on that... Its more a case of having to than wanting to! I dont drive and have no desire to drive in this congested city(Bath). Also, living in such a beautiful city it is rather nice to walk around. Ididnt feel the same living in a bigger city. The only reason i end up walking so much is because DD is in nursery half our walk away, so that twice a day adds up. Bonus is its v good for the figure
Sex - We still hav'nt Its difficult really, DP away all week, then trying to manage kids at the weekend...where is the time!! I know we could find it it we really wanted too. Like someone else said, we where never the biggest of shaggers due to circumstance!
GF, how did it go leaving Storm?? Hope you had a good eve.
Deb - 98th Centile, well done you!!
Makes Cakes - 21st Centile. My first was a wee one too, lovely! She is now on 75th Centile for height and weight at almost 5. Quite suprising as me and DP are quite petite.
Katyjo - my buggy is still playing up. Bit tricky as MIL bought it for us so to try and return/complain have to go through them. Love the buggy, just wish the wheels would stop buggering up.
Needahand, bless littleun and her birthday requests. My DD1 has been planning her birthday cake for next month sice May. I have very specific instructions, I uesd to bake cakes for a job at one point and she knows it!.
Everyone else..hope alls good.
Phew, knackered, going to have a big glass of red, dinner and Prison Break DVD! xx

PiggyPenguin · 23/08/2008 20:41

I ou with love you guys, thanks so much for the support. He is still an absolute pain but I am determined to try and stick it out, at least for a little longer.

I am also determined to talk about something else as I am probably boring you with this now. Am I the only one loving Last choir standing? Am watching it now, very relieved that Only Men Aloud have got through, god love 'em.

katyjo · 23/08/2008 20:53

I'm watching it too, although I was also watching x factor I know its cringeworthy but I love it!! It makes me cry and laugh, that little Irish guy was sooo cute. I can tell I'm a Mum now though as it makes me cry when the parents cry!!
Mia is settling into a pattern, seems to be going down about 7pm and with an 11pm feed sleeps until 6ish - so very pleased I love having my evenings back.

Fungle good to know your lo is doing so well now, Mia is only wee but hv etc don't seem worried and she is developing well in every other way, but feeding is a nightmare and so is her weightgain.

Sybil I know what you mean my sisters and Mum keep phoning me to check how feeding and weight is going and I had to tell them to stop cos I kept bursting into tears. They are little pains, but not really anything we can do about it!

bitofadramaqueen · 23/08/2008 22:14

Fungle that's great news on the feeding front. S can go quite comfortably for four hours now, but bizarrely he always has to have a feed at 10am no matter what time the feed he has before. This is usually 7am but can be early or later depending if he's woken for a middle of the night feed or not. Its a real PITA because I'd like to shunt all his other day time feeds back half an hour.

Question for everyone - should you avoid bathing a baby straight after a feed? If so, how long to leave it? We'd like to do a whole bath/bedtime routine between 6 and 7 but S always feeds at 6pm which makes it difficult.

Hurrah we've got a meetup date and time glasgow girls. Interesting that C is well into her 0-3months LauraT. S's are mostly still a bit big on him, but he's also long and is quite a big boy.

Re: giving up dairy and stuff, this might be of interest to some... Was reading something on this recently (not sure where, but it was fairly authorative sounding) that if you think a particular foodstuff is causing problems you should eliminate it for 2 weeks and then reintroduce it to see what impact that has. Also should only eliminate one type of foodstuff at a time, so you can accurately assess any real intolerances.

Fungle great that you have a nice area to walk around in. Edinburgh is beautiful, but nowhere nice for walking near home so have to drive/bus into town to get anywhere nice to walk which makes it a complete faff. Need to do more walking though to get back into shape!

Crikey, very tired - am off to feed S and then hit the sack. At a wedding tomorrow so wont be back till Monday.

thegreenfairy · 23/08/2008 22:22

hi all

laura i stopped eating dairy as an experiment to see if storm's evening crying (due to horrid wind) would stop - both vanished overnight and only come back when i eat it accidentally. so if you can stand it and are suffering troublesome evenings it's worth the sacrifice - am used to no cheese/milk now (apart from goat) but it did take a couple of weeks! dairy does also make her much more vomity - noticeably so when i mistakenly ate cheese in some stuffed pasta a few days ago and every burp all day was accompanied by a stream of vom. other things which disagree with her - bananas, beef, kidney beans, OJ, white wine.

fungle storm was as good as gold for mil and for the third night in a row slept through - this time from 8 til 5! interested to see whether she makes it four nights in a row, but she's getting much easier to settle in the evenings, which i think is part of it.
we went out in the afternoon and not the evening and the film (dark knight) was brilliant, if a bit intense after three months with no cinema - for the first 15 mins my brain was a bit fried!

hedgehog1979 · 24/08/2008 09:02

Morning all

TGF glad you enjoyed the film, still can't imagine leaving Isaac for that long with someone, although will prob have to leave him in about three weeks as someone we know is turning 30 and having a big drinking session in London.

BDQ i tend to find that if Isaac is hungry you can delay his feed by giving him a bath and then feeding him afterwards. But he does love having a bath.

I feel quite lucky that I haven't had to cut out any food, so sympathies to all who have had too. Although I don't eat much dairy anyway take tea and coffee black, and always forget about milk/cheese etc in the fridge (sounds terrible doesn't it)

fungle hoped you enjoyed your wine and DVD

deb 98th centile wow!!

Isaac is pretty steady on 50th which is nice, as I am quite tall so was worried that he would be tall/heavy too.

Sorry if I have missed anyone, trying to listen for washing machine to see if nappies have finished. I am feeling quite smug today as I realised he hasn't had a 'sposie on for 2 weeks

LauraT · 24/08/2008 09:09

thanks UDC and TGF might have to try that then, although given that I've just had a big bowl of cereal with milk, better leave it until tomorrow!

BDQ Charlotte's legs get squashed up in the smaller size, she can't straighten out! Also, the reuseable nappies take up a fiar bit of space in them!

Neenz where are you???? it's been over a week since she last posted, hope all is well with the twins.

how come i'm the first one here today?

LauraT · 24/08/2008 09:11

x-posted with hedgehog, you beat me to it!

Parofleurmapu · 24/08/2008 09:21

Debs- Bless your mum thinking it was exciting!!Hope you had a nice time even though it was a quick visit. You have better weather than us the last few weeks although hot have been cloudy. Do you take Ethan in the pool?

Ill join you Laura in a sycn team, i think its funny too!! Prson breaak and lost are good even if theeyget a bit tediuos and long winded

TGF cactus icecream, yummy dont think we will get it here but we do have aloe vera ice cream which is nice

Glad feeding is better fungle Sybil- I love last choir, acm gospel are my favs and only men aloud are good (at singing and to look at!!!) too

Katyo - i watch x factor, my cousin is in it and has got through to boot camp but you only see a flash of him in thee first episode

BDQ I feed Fleur a little bit at 6pm not all of her EBM about 1 to 2 oz and then take her up to have bath and massage then feed her the rest, then its a story and songs and into bed at about 7.15pm

With all these babies sleeping through wondering what Fleurs up to!!! She does go down at 7 .15pm and sleeps to 2am when she wakes for a feed and i mean wakes screaming the lot!!! so she obviously needs it. Hopefully she´ll drop it before i go back to work in Oct then 7pm to 5am would be fab, maybe i should feed her more during day? But she is stubborn and will only feed when and how much she wants about 4 to 6 0z

Parofleurmapu · 24/08/2008 09:23
