Thought I'd start a new thread before we ran out of space! Couldn't remember the exact name suggestion so have paraphrased, the sentiment is still the same though...

Upsidedowncake · 06/09/2008 19:49

Hello

Sorry I've been away for a few days - Friday is my crazy day when I have both of them, and I was recovering from D's feeding marathon. Thanks to everyone for your kind words - you made me feel I wasn't going completely potty! Poor old DS dealing with me feeding Dorothy that often as well!

Amber, sorry about your night. THat's rough. Hope you are feeling a bit better now. Glad you found some houses. Where are you moving to?

Aberdeen, how was your night? Hope you get a good one tonight? Tomatoes and corn are supposed to be other foods that can affect babies.

Debs, how are your day trips going?

Paro, so exciting re wedding. Fleur will be such a gorgeous bridesmaid. Are you going to have a big hen party in GC? The best hen parties I went to were in Spain.

Glad you Scottish ladies had a nice day out.

Sybil, very jealous re Boden raincoat. You are the yummiest of the mummies!!!!

Have a good evening everyone. DH is barbequeing lamb so am salivating already.

Upsidedowncake · 06/09/2008 20:03

Just realised that I hadn't looked on any of your blogs for a while. I only have Paro's and Aberdeen's in my bookmarks for some reason - and have posted comments, but would love to see others. Paro, I love your week-by-week counter - I must tell DH about it. here's our blog too

Parofleurmapu · 06/09/2008 21:07

Re wedding - now have to make invitations (i make cards and sell them so shall make my own invites) Yes have to get some kind of dress i did get something for wedding before Fleur born obviously was 5 months pregnant so slightly too big now and very simple as it was going to be a small affair due to DP mum, but i could use it and get it tarted up and adjusted but then again could get something new!!!uhhhmmmmm dont what big white dress though looking for something different
Yep Fleur will be 14months sooooo cute by then of course!!!!! And there is all the other stuff that goes with weddings luckliy the venue is all inclusive so no music to get or food etc.

MMMMMmmm UDC Lamb we dont get it here very much or if we do its expensive. Thanks for comment on blog, hadnt realised but yes she does!!!Hehe I love looking at your blog your DH does a good job
And will prob have a hen day at a cool spa hotel place down south and a night out with the girls from work!

Parofleurmapu · 06/09/2008 21:09

Meant to link to wedding venue so here so you can all have a nosey!!! Lovely isnt it?

ThePenguinProject · 06/09/2008 21:20

Great news re: wedding Paro.

Glad you got a tiny bit of sleep Amber.

UDC - BBQ lamb, yum yum. Homemade pizza here...

I think the discussion re: flouncing and replying to posts has dampened down everyone's enthusiasm for posting. Please come back everyone, we have been an amazing thread since at least January and have been through so much together. I'd hate to lose you guys. We've got just 46 posts left on this thread, lets see how quick we can start a new one!

Wierd weekend here so far. I think DH and I are having a bit of trouble adjusting to our new roles. We love being parents, but it's hard to be both Mummy and the strong independent woman he married, if that makes sense?

OP posts:
poppy34 · 06/09/2008 21:25

oh god pp makes so much sense - I long for adult conversation or night out at times.. I just had tizz at dh about loving being a mum but occasionally wanting some time out and given how hard it is now (and edie a very good baby) how would I cope with two?

think you may have a point about the thread slowing down which is a real shame ..

para that venue looks fab - how did you find it?

Amberc · 07/09/2008 07:20

poppy Luke has NEVER liked his chair so it's not an age thing I don't think. We're looking in Chislehurst as it's easy to communte and good for families.

Paro Congrats on setting the date! Luke is also too physically immature for what his little mind wants to do. He has started grabbing his hands now and feet which apparently is very advanced!! I think he's worked out that they belong to him! Weirdly still eats as much as he did when he was 4 weeks old and has never progressed to eating more in one sitting. Havr to give it to him in stages - still he's still 75th centile so I guess I shouldn't worry. All length though and no fat. PS do we get an invite to the wedding?

PP other way round for us. DP thinks I am the same person and I'm not. It's much more difficult that way.

Another 5am for me today.

spongebrainbigpants · 07/09/2008 08:55

Hi guys, think the thread might just be slow cos everyone's out enjoying this lovely weather!

paro, huge congrats on wedding - how exciting!

Amber, meant to ask whether you'd tried out that cot restraint thing on Luke yet and how he got on with it? Thinking of buying one before we put Alex in his cot.

We need to think of a new thread title! Totally lacking in inspiration I'm afraid - over to someone else . . . .

pleasechange · 07/09/2008 09:21

paro that's great that you've booked the wedding - the venue looks lovely!

Well fingers crossed the Colief, Ranitidine & Gaviscon combination is improving how A is feeding! Having to prepare and give him all this medicine is a bit tedious though.

We're now just having 2 wake-ups in the night, around 12 and 3 or 4, which is such an improvement

My mum is coming at the end of this week to stay for a couple of days - will be so nice to have some company during the day!

I'm going to try a baby/toddler group near tomorrow. I went to a different one last week, but the other mums in the baby area all had babies around 5/6 months and so I felt a bit left out as A was so much younger and not doing the same things

whinegums · 07/09/2008 09:43

Hello all, maybe it's just a bit quieter with it being the weekend? I hope so anyway. Maybe the next thread title should be 'No flouncing allowed!'?

I haven't got much to say today. V still of everyone who is getting through the night - B is nearly 13lbs and 9 weeks, and usually feeds around 1am, 4am and 7.30am. I am trying cluster feeding, dream feed, making sure he feeds on both sides in the evenings, but none of it is making a difference. I tried to explain the concept of a weekend lie-in to him this morning, but he just wasn't listening...

Paro, oooh, a wedding, fantastic! The venue looks fab.

Allnew, glad you are having some success with the meds. I was also thinking of venturing to my first mother and baby/toddler thing.

Sybil, I have ordered a very practical waterproof, no yummy mummy here. But hopefully a snug and dry one!

DQ, are you around? I tried B with Dentinox again - he HATES it, but something seems to be working, Screamy MacScreamerson has been on his holidays for the past couple of nights. Colic has got progressively better this week. Not sure if it's the combination of remedies, or whether it's just because he's getting older. Frankly, I don't care what it is, as long as it's stopping.

Anyone watch the X Factor last night? God, I LOVE that programme! Thought the sister act from Glasgow was very very scary - wouldn't have dared laugh at them in real life (not without being able to run away very fast anyway).

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday.

debinaustria · 07/09/2008 09:45

Morning all

udc - thanks for asking, we just have one more day to go and then school!! YIPPEE. We have had a great week and the weather's been gorgeous. So, one more cable car to a huge children's play area and walk then maybe a swim but we're all feeling a bit rough today so might give that a miss. Took E swimming again yesterday and he loved it.

Amber - sorry you had an early morning again, ds1 used to be like that, I can remember getting up with him at 5 ish, lying on the settee and putting him on his mat surrounded by toys but sounds like that's not Luke's idea of fun - sorry, hope it will improve soon.

Sponge - how are you feeling? Doing anything today?

Paro - lovely venue - you must be excited.

Allnew - glad the medicine is helping. Hope the baby/toddler group is OK, they take some getting used to, some are more friendly than others, some are a bit cliquey(?) but it is worth persevering I made some good friends at mine and I think it's good Mums to see babies/children of different ages so you know what to expect!!!

PP - sorry you and dh are having a few problems, it's not easy. I am finding that dh goes further down the list now - and he feels that too. ds1 and ds2 seem to be very aware of how much time I spend with them and particularly with ds1 I have to make sure that I give him some one to one time.

OK, was supposed to be an early start but Ethan gave us a lie in, so must go now.

Parofleurmapu · 07/09/2008 09:47

Morning Thanks for wedding wishes

Fleur slept from 8pm to 4am today (dream feed 11pm) But then she slept from 4am to 9am!!!so a lie in, normally she wakws again at 7.30am

Poppy- as my family apart from M and D who are in Ukraine!! are all in Cambidge, Suffolk, Norfolk area we have to have it that area so found it on the Cambridge registrar page they had on there other venues instead of the registry office that were liscensed to do weddings.

Debs - What have you planned for today? they sound so fab wish i could come!

Amber- Fleur does exactly the same with feeding too!!! HV said, " you should really make her feed every four hours and she should be eating 7oz. Well im lucky if she goes for 3hrs and can only just manage sometimes to get her to eat 5oz in one go. But she is also fine weight and is really long too!!! DO you think they were seperated at birth?!!!! Hehe

And we'll have a virtual hen night on here too!!how bout that amber!

Allnew - glad meds working well although slightly tedious

Sponge - thread titles uhm only one i can think of is Some are sleeping, others weeping and some are just eating something like that any how? not good with witty stuff!!!

off to find out if local pool open if not its the beach for us today

Parofleurmapu · 07/09/2008 09:53

X posted with debs and whinegums

Debs Have fun on your last day!

Whinegums - Fleur doesnt understand sleping through either though she doesnt wake at 1am anymore. Re x factor I love it too but we download it and other comp is being repaired so cant download at mo cant wait til its back and we can watch english tv, you guys might complain bout it but it sure beats Spanish!!!

Amberc · 07/09/2008 11:05

Oh My god! I just measured Luke as 3-6 months clothes with feet are way too short for him and I have had to cut the feet off (the brbygrows not Luke!). He is 68.5cms which for his 12 weeks goes off the scale on centiles. Looking at the 50th centile which is middle average, this is the length of a 28 week baby.

Paro Looking forward to getting virtually pissed up on your virtual hen night!!! Can we do karaoke? I will get you an L plate and a chocolate shaped like a penis.

GO ANDY MURRAY!!!!!!! 2 sets to love against Nadal (who I know a lot of you fancy

Amberc · 07/09/2008 11:10

sponge sorry nearly forgot - the baby restraint thing works really well but you should try your LO without it first as it's ecpensive if not necessary. Luke is mega wiggly!! It's called Safe T Sleep.

pleasechange · 07/09/2008 11:47

OMG amber you're going to be going through a lot of clothes! Is your DH tall?

I find the sizings are really variable - in some brands A still fits comfortably into 0-3, but in other brands he's well into 3-6. I'm trying not to buy too much as he grows out of them so quickly. He's still got way more clothes than me though - I'm still wearing the same jeans every day and rotate about 3 tops. The weight is very stubborn (or maybe I just eat too much )

On the wriggly baby front, we've started swaddling A to sleep in his moses basket and it works a treat. Also it's great for night feeds as it keeps him in one place. For such a wriggler it's bizarre that he seems to like being swaddled. Not sure if we're supposed to swaddle at this age, but can't do any harm surely? His arms and legs certainly get enough exercise during the day!

Hope I don't have to fork out for the baby restraint

debinaustria · 07/09/2008 12:05

Still here, we were all so tired that no-one could be bothered so we're having a lazy day here and it's so nice. E has just gone down for a sleep, ds1 is watching TV and dh and ds2 are on the Wii so here I am. I could be doing housework but there are better things in life - like MN, my jobs can wait until this week when the boys are back at school.

Paro - ethan still feeds every 2 hours in the day, but he sleeps so well at night (at the moment) that I don't mind at all. German/Austrian TV is rubbish too so we also download X factor and other things, dh puts it on a usb key which then goes in the dvd player. So we get to see things a day or so later than you UK residents.

Whinegums - Ethan will be 12 weeks on Tuesday and it's only been in the last 3 weeks or so that he's started dropping feeds in the night. Like you I tried al sorts of things to get him to sleep longer and the night I just put him to bed without fussing he slept through the 1.00. Then it just got better and better, we still have some bad nights, Sunday we had a 1.00, 3.00, 5.00 night but last night it was 6.00 then in bed with us from 7.15-9.00. There is light at the end of the tunnel for you i'm sure.

Amber - OMG at the length of Luke, I've just been putting away all the sweet 0-3 month clothes, I put Ethan in a 3-6 outfit without feet today - the dungaree bit is fine but the top that goes with them is way too big - he needs shoulders like an American footballer to fill it.3-6 sleepsuits are fine in the body and arms but too long in the legs still.

I have decided that dressing babies requires lots of skill - you need a degree in sizing from various shops as they vary so much, you need to learn never to keep something for best as they will have outgrown it by the time you use it, etc...

Talking clothes - anyone found socks that stay on? Are baby gap socks supposed to be good?

Must go and play bowling before lunch

Bye for now

debinaustria · 07/09/2008 12:06

x posted Allnew - similar thinking re clothes - lol

katyjo · 07/09/2008 12:34

Hi everyone,

Feeling really tired today, ds has a cold and decided to wake up twice in the night and then up at 6am I thought it was supposed to be the baby keeping me up at night!

Amber I read somewhere that babies nutritional needs don't alter between 1 and 6 months so that would sound right given what you are saying, but sounds like he's doing great, can't believe how long he is, is his dad tall?

Whinegums I love x factor too! Was there anyone picked from glasgow, they seem to keep jumping between Glasgow and Edinburgh and only seemed to be weirdos in Glasgow!

Paro Mia is the same, took nearly 6oz this morning but that is a record for her! I struggle to get her to take 4oz sometimes, you can't force them to take it if they don't want it.

katyjo · 07/09/2008 12:42

Congrats on the wedding date Paro, it looks like a gorgeous venue. x

poppy34 · 07/09/2008 13:16

amber thought edie was going through her clothes quick but sounds like you're definitely doing something right with luke. AGree with deb that clothing sizing is random - got a bunch of sale stuff from boots the other day for 3 -6 - am glad it was sale as can't see it lasting more than a couple of weeks in them.

whinegumsglad something is working and colic is going...

got bit of a cold so contemplating quiet afternoon of watching sport... amber can't see the appeal of nadal myself -too much of the missing link about him - but very excited re tennis

Amberc · 07/09/2008 13:25

Luke's dad is 6'2" and I am 5'8" so he was always going to be tall but that's abnormal! Things which fit his legs drown his little body. Need to go shopping for MORE clothes tomorrow as we don't have anything for the colder weather now. Babies are so expensive. We are keeping everything for baby 2 (at some point!) but it'll probably end up being a girl. Who says girls can't wear blue?

poppy34 · 07/09/2008 13:36

amber have opposite problem -saving clothes for no2 (but have occasional wavers about this being a good idea!!) thinking if its a boy he won't notice if its pink...

Upsidedowncake · 07/09/2008 13:44

Very quick post - Dorothy has gone back to being sick every day again and is very burpy, so it's all a bit hectoc round here. Oh - and the dishwasher is broken and Bosch can't come out until Friday!!!!

Girls can wear blue! Dorothy is wearing out all her big brother's 0-3 month clothes, as he was like Amber's Luke and absolutely ginormous.

Debs, STAYCATIONS ARE THE BEST!

Whinegums, glad the colic better

Parofleurmapu · 07/09/2008 14:00

Amber - hehe to hen night plans!! I put Fleurs length down to her being half dutch!!though her dad is short!!!

Fleur is still in some 0-3 mths and some 3-6 months and even has a few dresses she wears that are 6-9mths!!!cause she so long think bout 60cm so not as long as luke!!!

Deb - we do a similar thing, tv is plugged into comp.
No socks for fleur they dont stay on!

Poppy -Having a chillling day here too actually feeling a bit crap, sore throatetc.
But no tennis here, Formula 1 instead which Fleur is loving!

UDC- sorry bout vomiting and DW!!hope it all sorts itself out soon
