Thought I'd start a new thread before we ran out of space! Couldn't remember the exact name suggestion so have paraphrased, the sentiment is still the same though...

Had a good night O slept from 12.30 to 8am

DH is on his way home yipee!!

Thanks re the bottles and dishwasher I know I should get them washed straight away But I have 2 bottles per feed and up to 5 syringes depending on the time of day so its getting a bit silly, If I dont wash the 12pm then by 8am you can Imagine I have quite a bit. Plus I tend to keep everything in both sterilisers(yes I need 2)!! both microwaveable I would keep sterilising just to make sure as obviously O has a weaker immune system.

Debs OMG make sure your not eating when you watch it and have something to bite on and wipe the tears away especially for the operation!!!! I will say no more as dont want to spoil it.

Essie3 · 22/08/2008 12:46

Hello all,

Another quick reply where I won't manage to respond to everyone!

Sponge glad you posted: I'm having exactly the same concerns about Iestyn now! He slept loads last night, and until gone 8am this morning, fell asleep as I was ready to leave the house, then again all the time I was at my friend's house, and he's sleeping now. More sleeping than waking. Very odd, but it's kind of useful .

Whinegums so I can come out of the closet and admit to bfing because I'm lazy and a slut? Good! With bfing I don't have to wash things properly and sterilize stuff, or even prepare bottles.
I will also admit to doing it to annoy my MIL. I might keep on until Iestyn is 5 and meet him at break time in school for that very same reason. (I am joking - but not a drop of formula will pass his lips until after Christmas if I can help it.)

Paro the news is really shocking. So awful. And all those little children, it's terrible.

Finally...Amber, was it you on the sex question? I'm still holding out here, I reckon we can make it to 1 year with no sex, heheheheh! No, I'm thinking about it now but DH is away.

I'm off to Buxton for the weekend (Buxom me in Buxton!) then London for a bit, so be prepared for an e-mail, London gals!

wish I could BF

ErnestTheBavarian · 22/08/2008 13:26

Hia hope all well. Thanks for the welcome back & the wishes for ds3. Initial tests she he has good amounts of growth hormone but very little growth factor. No idea what this REALLY means & if it's rectifiable. DH not optimistic(unusual for him): mil was only 4'10" I'm only 5'2", so not family of giants, but just average size would be great. Being very short is worse for boys/men. well, just have to wait for 3 weeks.

Josey I did want a boy, & was dreading the stupid comments. They don't bother me as much as I thought cos I'm so mad about her. She's just gorgeous. It doesn't matter does it? You just fall in love with them don't you? Great that Olivia's sleeping so well. Adele seeme to be switching to 5.30ish wake up, which unfortunately means I don't get back to sleep, even tho she does

You must have to be so organised. Glsad your dh on way. How much /often is be away?

Adele had 1st injections today ( ) thanks again to you lot for reminding me oops, & legoland for ds1 birthday tomorrow, groan.

have nice weekend all xx

spongebrainbigpants · 22/08/2008 13:53

whinegums, that was one of the reasons I wanted to bf too - the sterlising is sooo tedious! However, A just wasn't interested so while I was expressing I still had to do all the bloody sterilising! Hope No2 will be more co-operative!

TGF, sorry, didn't mean to be nosey . We're thinking of adopting No 2 as well, but only if the IVF doesn't work.

hedgehog, lol at using reuseables just to piss off your in-laws!! There must be easier ways! (Essie and I can give you some tips if you're interested).

Thanks for all the reassurance on Alex's sleeping yesterday - he seems slightly more awake today but I am keeping a close eye on him and will contact HV if it carries on. It's just such a worry when they do something completely different isn't it?

Ernest, I missed the worries about your DS - are they concerned that he's not growing as he should be?

josey, I'm so sorry you feel bad about not being able to bf .

Essie, hope your LO's more awake today. My MIL is driving me up the wall at the moment - but I think now I've just got into that mindset that everything she says/does annoys me! Did I tell you that the other day she fed Alex and let him suck on the empty bottle for about 5 mins for 'comfort'?!! [anger] He was left in the most horrendous pain from wind - she won't be feeding him again in a hurry I can tell you!

ErnestTheBavarian · 22/08/2008 14:07

SB, yes, he's knee high to a grasshopper. he's still wearing size 2 to 3 clothes and only 13 kilos, grown very little since he was 2 really. AT last it's been looked into. Results in 3 weeks.

Josey, is Olivia bottle fed? (sorry if stupid Q - missed all your news) or is it still tube? Do you still express (v. hard)?

SB me being nosey now - are you already thinking of ivf? WHen've you got in mind for starting (sorry if too nosey?)

pleasechange · 22/08/2008 15:03

sponge at your MIL letting A suck air!

bdq I've had A on dentinox since yesterday evening, and so far so good - fingers crossed! I'm flying with him this eve for the first time so I really hope he doesn't scream....

Just did tummy time with A - I don't do it every day, probably more like every few days. Thing is he hates it and I feel really bad looking at him lying there squirming around! He has good head strength though and always looks around when carried so I'm not too worried

I'll miss the Olympics next week - what to watch when sitting on sofa?! Unless the sun's out of course and then I'll be outdoors!

josey · 22/08/2008 15:16

Ernest glad you dont mind anymore and can cope with the comments
Olivia is Tube fed hence the syringes(also for medication though) BUT she has started to feed oraly, we use a haberman feeder(special needs feeder) and she can managed between 1&2oz im only meant to feed her for 5mins a time though....she has a speech therapist who will be here shortly who helps her feed. I cannot manage to express anymore I managed for 5weeks the last week of which was mixed bf/ff.

Im not organised really-DH goes away every month for anything up to 3 weeks, Im used to it but it is very hard just now. My friend and neighbour takes DS to school and picks him up which is a godsend.

Sponge I have never been a great BFr always struggled but the face I just wasnt aloud persay kills me this time stupid really.

bitofadramaqueen · 22/08/2008 15:35

Afternoon all, have just finished shopping and come home to study and a very annoying neighbour in the adjacent street blasting out hardcore dance music. Can hear it from every room in the house. Is phoning the police to complain too extreme?

Josey you did really well to express for 5 weeks. I did about the same and found it really tough and I dont have half the challenges you face. Great news that DH on way home!

allnew fingers crossed the dentinox works for you.

Aarrghh, so distracted by the music I've forgotten everything I read on last page.

Oh lots of mentions about weight - 6 week old S is 11lb 8.5oz - he could squash some of the older babies on here . Maybe he'll need to go to baby WW. (joking, obviously!)

Amberc · 22/08/2008 16:14

Re WW - I did it once before and had good results so am doing it again now - started today. It galls me to put my new weight in as it recognised me (online) and had my old weight of 10st 8lb when I thought I could do wiht losing a few pounds. Am now 13st!! I wonder if my 4-5 miles I walk a day with the pram have put muscle on me which weighs more? (please humour me!!)

Re sleeping all day and night - babies make growth hormones when they sleep so if having a growth spurt need to sleep more.

Am going to MIL for w/e so will leave Luke with her for the day - actually looking forward to it but will miss him though. He has diarrhoea (since Tuesday's double poonamis) and is very cranky poor thing. Should I take him to docs or will they tell me to give him water?

Amberc · 22/08/2008 16:17

BDQ The local council should have a 24 hr noise departmet. I phoned mine once and someone comes round and measures decibels.

bitofadramaqueen · 22/08/2008 16:25

Amberc Found a 'noisy neighbour' helpline that the police run so have called that. Am supposed to be studying but cant concentrate. Thankfully S out with DH. Wouldn't mind but I'm not a big fan of thumping house music . Not sure what the guidance is on diarrhoea - could you give HV a call to check to save making an appointment? Someone else is bound to know on here though.

Am so impressed by your 4-5 miles walking - I've been really put off by the weather I have to admit. I thought it was going to be a lovely summer and I could walk the pounds off in the park. Problem is, there is nowhere nearby that's nice for walks so am always put off by having to travel somewhere when its p'ing down to walk in the rain!

Need to stop making excuses and get active though. It was really depressing looking at myself in the mirror when shopping. My legs have taken a real battering. They're massive and have loads of stretch marks on my thighs - at the back they go all the way to the back of my knees . Am bit traumatised at thought of wearing dress at wedding now. However I did get the high waisted spanx pants so at least I wont be too wobbly.

Essie3 · 22/08/2008 16:30

DQ he's not allowed near Iestyn, then - 9 weeks and 9.9 (oh, just realised how symmetrical that is!). Some babies are born bigger than that!! But maybe he's growing, the amount of sleeping he's been doing!

Amber I will never again complain about noisy neighbours because they could get me back - when Iestyn gets going, I swear it's asbo material. Sorry to hear about the diarrhoea, though. Iestyn just pooed on the changing mat. The guy is a prime candidate for an asbo really.

bitofadramaqueen · 22/08/2008 16:48

Typical! Music stopped now that environmental health called to say they were coming round. . Have an incident number now though so I can call back whenever it starts up again.

Essie at baby asbo's. Thankfully my noisy neighbour is far enough away (adjacent street!) not to hear S. I wont let S squish Iestyn I promise!

spongebrainbigpants · 22/08/2008 17:17

Ernest, bless him. Glad they're finally looking into it.

Don't mind you asking about the IVF at all - we took Alex to the clinic to introduce him to the staff and also talk about when I could start again. I'm no spring chicken sadly (36 now, will be nearly 37 by the time we start again - and we originally planned to have 4 children. Of course, I was 30 when we started ttc, when that was a realistic plan ). We're hoping to start again in April/May time when A is 10/11 mths old. Not ideal, but I really don't want him to be an only child, and if we're going to adopt I don't want to be too old, so we want to try for a sibling quickly.

allnew, tell me about it!! I've come to the conclusion my MIL is not a v bright woman! . I mean she raised 2 kids on formula herself so how could she not know that you don't let them suck air? He was in so much pain, it took me two hours to calm him down and Alex is normally a very contented baby (esp with a full stomach!). I've told dh she's not feeding him anymore but don't know how far I'll get with that!

josey, I don't think it's stupid at all. Like BDQ said you did bloody brilliantly to express for 5 wks, I only managed 9 days and I only have one child .

Amber, my muscles weigh 5 stone so I'm far stronger than you!!

alipalli · 22/08/2008 17:25

Hello all, I've been lurking for a few days ...

Weight: peter is 14lb 11oz at 9 weeks

My weight: I put on 3st and have about 1st to lose as I had put on a pound or two before I got pg. No idea how though: despite bf my milk monster the weight loss has plateaued in recent weeks. I suspect the serious quantities of cake that I am currently eating may be a factor. However my maternity jeans are now a bit loose. I really must do setting about excavating my old stuff or buying new.

Sex: not yet, but then we weren't exactly prolific shaggers before, so don't suppose that having a baby would change that!

Essie3 · 22/08/2008 17:39

Alipalli - brave admission re: sex there! Same here, snap!

LauraT · 22/08/2008 17:49

afternoon ladies,

Charlotte weighed 9lb 7oz at her six week weigh in on Monday, no idea what I weigh as our scales have broken (secretly pleased)

Katyjo was lovely to meet you and beautiful smiley Mia today, hpefully next week Charlotte won't decide to unleash a poonami in the middle of the class just at we get onto the abdominal muscles bit, really need the work there!

glasgow meet up, I could do the friday 5th if that suits everyone else so long as we wtick to lunchtime (flying to Dorset in the evening so need to be home by 4 ish for my visit to 5gomad's B&B), can skip the exercise class for a week otherwise mon/wed the following week are fine too...

Hedgehog LOL at using reuseable nappies to piss off your ILs!

Alipalli please don't blame the cake, it's an essential surely!(if we all agree that cake is essential then it doesn't count)

everyone else hope you are all having a nice day x

LauraT · 22/08/2008 17:50

SBBP LOL at your 5 stone muscles!

bitofadramaqueen · 22/08/2008 18:07

Great Laura Friday 5th works for me - still 1pm ok? whinegums and katyjo does that work for you?

Re: reusables and weight - have just remembered that size 1 bamboozles are up to 18lbs so I'd better get S in them quick otherwise I'll be selling brand new cloth nappies too!

As you can see my study day is still going well... Have given up proper studying and printing of a small rainforest worth of articles, surveys etc that I aim to read next week when S having naps etc.

bitofadramaqueen · 22/08/2008 18:09

Oh, can also still do the Mon/Wed following week - dont want to be responsible for you guys missing your class .

PiggyPenguin · 22/08/2008 19:13

Hi everyone, have been away for week so sorry didn't get to thank everyone for postive vibes you were sending. I wasn't ignoring anyone honest!

I had a lovely holiday apart from nightmare monster child. My lovely little boy decided he didn't want to feed at all. He was being tricky before we went away with breast refusal but since then has refused to feed at all and will only let me get anywhere near him when he is asleep. When awake he screams the place down if I go anywhere near hin which is hugely distressing. I am trying to remain calm and not panic into giving him formula - his older siblings have both been milk intolerant and ds1 now has chronic ezcema and multiple allergies which I am sure where impacted by early weaning - so trying not to give J anything until 6 months other than bmilk.

Can I ask about other babies weight gain. J was putting on 8 oz a week but since this whole debacle started has only put on 7 oz in last 2 weeks. I know others on here have had low weight weeks too, please reassure me that this is an ok amount for me to continue with.

Sorry this is such a me me post. Have really missed the support from you guys over last week. Oh and Sponge - am sorry if I ignored you at all, please forgive if did, but I have to say that you seem to be doing fabulously well at this to me.

spongebrainbigpants · 22/08/2008 19:24

sybil, welcome back and thank you for your kind comments.

Good to hear you had a lovely holiday but so sorry to hear about your LO's feeding troubles. No advice I'm afraid - I had breast refusal from my LO from day one which is why I couldn't persist with bf. Really hope it sorts itself out.

Parofleurmapu · 22/08/2008 20:05

Hi sybil

Fleur has had low weight gain this week after always gaining loads and loads every week but im waiting to see what next few weeks brings, I know that as soon as they have more or less doubled birth weight they start to slow down. So weight is prob normal.

She also has moments when she screams and is uneasy on breast i find that this can be any of these 1. not enough milk ie late eve, so i express in am and give bottle at 6pm feed

  1. sometimes let down is sooo fast she pulls away 3. sometimes let down is slow so massage a bit first 4. she is sooo hungry that wont feed so try to anticipate a feed 5. tired? if she is too tired she is a nightmare to feed. Not sure if these help but i sometimes give her to Dp who calms her down sometimes a suck on dummy for a while works then we try again or we go away some where quieter
I must admit it is dishearting when they do this as i always end up screaming whats wrong with her.

I am going to get checked out for thrush etc though when MW gets back from hols just to eliminate thats not the problem

Other than that chin up and thats why we are here as listening ears for egocentric posts!!! hehe thats what i think anyhow Hope i helped in someway if not sorry for long post!!

Upsidedowncake · 22/08/2008 20:13

Have read all the posts, but too tired to respond to everyone. Hope that's OK.

Paro, I thought of you today. Just being in GC must be terribly upsetting.

Josey, go Olivia. Love the smiles!

GF, Christian used to to cluster feed from 5 -7, and am finding that Dorothy does too. It's a right pain, but I've always rationalised it that at least they sleep better.

Makecakes, keeping in touch day sounds awful. What do you do? It sounds very early to have one. If they make me do one, I'm bringing Dorothy!

Fungle, wow, 2 hours a day

Ernest, sorry that I missed the issues with DS3 and hope it's getting sorted. How old is he?

Re weight loss, since I've given up dairy (and therefore all puddings including ice cream ), I've lost between 4 and 5 pounds. I can't believe I was getting so many calories from puds! I can fit into lots of my old trousers, and Dorothy is so much more settled. Just need to keep on taking calcium supplements.
