Got back from mil's late last night. It was ok, came back with masses of toys but nothing too big! Ended up with (not all from mil, jut in general) a dancing igglepiggle, a makkapakka ride on, books, dvd's, a cd, clothes, musical instruments, a football, bubble machine, wooden fire engine, ball pit and balls etc - everyone went a bit overboard, including us. and James is playing with? a newspaper.

He's teething at the moment, I can see two enormous front teeth ready to come through any time (they look so big - did anyone else find this??) and he's been up crying in the night the past three nights because of it. Last night particularly bad, he was up at 4am and would NOT go back to sleep, so I'm a very grumpy banana today.

He's had really sore looking spotty nappy rash with the teething, tried metanium as well as bepanthen but nothing's shifting it. Also giving him ashton and parsons powders to try and neutralise the acid in his wee a bit.

As I said, he's not trying to say anything more than googoo and baba any more. We were getting the odd mamama etc a few weeks ago, and he even used to attempt to say things like "cup" but it's all gone. I'm not worried about his development because he does babble, but he's not saying anything properly, or in response to anything. I'm hoping it's because he's so busy trying to walk and climbing.

12 month check/jabs tomorrow. I'm dreading it. Oh well off to unpack x

Thanks for all the support. I've got an autoimmune thing, in most people it clears itself up within 5 years and with the drugs shouldn't really impact on my life. Just have to keep going back for lung function tests and chest x-rays to make sure. Not too worried now that I feel so much better.

I haven't even considered talking yet. Ds1 has only just started making sense and he's 3!

Ds2 had his first haircut yesterday. I asked for it to be long and surfer dudey - not sure what beaches she hangs out on but it's very short. Worried about what dh will say (he's away at the moment) as he said keep it long (think it's the only time he has ever expressed an opinion on anything !).

DS2 is such a boy, he spends hours pushing cars around the kitchen floor. DS1 was always more interested in copying dd and missed out the car thing. Will have to get him a new car for his bday.

Well off to try and find something to do with DC before they kill each other - please let it stop raining!

Hi

JB all those presents sound fab, and I'm sure J will start to appreciate them in the comming months.

LL has 7 teeth now, and yes the front two are kinda scary looking at first.
Don't worry about the talking, LL doesn't say much either, but he sure points alot, which is actualluy a really good sign, and really cute.

loloer - LOL about your hairdresser, that's exactly what my hairdresser did to ds when i said don't cut it too short, we have not been back to the hairdresser's since and dh now does a great job cutting his hair. Glad to hear you are taking your ilness so well, I come from a family of hypochondriacs so i'd probably think i was dying, wish I had your attitude to things.

We are expecting 7degress for LL's teddy bear picnic -that no one is comming too, everyone is sick, too far away. it's been freezing here.

james - struan really just babbles too - he makes animal noises but when he's singing, its just noise - no words, and he points and makes gestures but the only thing he actually says is nah for no.

the front teeth have always surprised me by their size, and now that i have got used to 4 teeth, I cant imagine him having more.

ds has his jabs today - i am at work . I really wish I could take him cause dh hates needles, and I sont think he really wants to take him.

Got really cross today when I found out that other people at work had got a pay rise this year, and I was thinking it was the second year in a row I hadnt got one - they waitied till the week after my mat leave started last year to have a salary review with everyone else - so was very cross this morning, but phoned dh at lunchtime and he checked my pay slip and turns out i got one after all.

soooo glad i didnt go into my boss all cross because of it this morning. could have been very .

happy birthday alex and charlotte for tomorrow - lots of birthdays on 16th as well. Purplerabbit passes on her happy birthdays to you all too.

There is a 12 month check here in Lincolnshire but they do seem to keep quite a close eye on us in this county! Yep, Joe had his meninitis booster and hib booster. He goes for his mmr next month and I'm really worried.

Anyway, Joseph was an angel at the doctors yeaterday. He sat nicely on my lap for half an hour in the waiting room just watching people come and go and waving a them! He didn't even cry during the injection but his little leg tensed up and he scowled at the nurse for the remainder of the time we were there!

Such a change from the last time we were there at 4 months. He was the ultimate screamy, miserable baby. He couldn't even sit for 2 mins in the waiting room without wriggling and squirming til we stood and paed the floor with him whilst showing him pictures on the notice board. he screamed as soon as we took his trousers off for the jab, til the moment we got home. He's like a different baby now, thank god! People were actually commenting on how beutiful and content he was. I always feel so shocked when people say that cos it's not so long ago I was opulling my hair out with him!

I guess my nhs trust has different times for the vaccinations then?

Anyway, glad James had a good birthday, sounds like he was spoiled rotten, (rightly so!). My living room still looks like the Lincoln branch of the Early Learning Centre, there are toys every where but he loves pottering around playing with them all so I'll wait til the weekend then I'm taking some of the older toys upstairs and I'll keep alternating them with his new birthday presents so he doesn't get bored.

Hope your boys are better tasha.

Conker, congrats on the pay rise! I'd be angry too though but glad you weren't left out in the end.

Hello. I had a nice day. My friend (who I haven't seen since November) came round for lunch. Although I forgot to take the dcs to clinic for weighing and measuring. I'm not that bothered but the hv recommended it when she came last week. I might tell work that I've got an appointment and take them in a few weeks.

Ds is being a right pita at meal times now. I'm having to fight him and come up with inventive ways of getting him to eat his savoury. Today dh made him some risotto but most of it ended up on the floor. I managed to get him to eat some when I put it in his mouth with my fingers instead of the spoon. All he seems to do these days is sit there pointing at the Cheerios box and whining. He's obsessed with them. He will eat his fruit and yoghurt with no complaints

Dh is coping fine thanks James. His grandad is doing much better. His uncle is on the mend too and should be out of hospital tomorrow.

Sounds like James was a lucky boy. Sil swears by talcum powder for nappy rash. She hasn't found any creams that work on her 3.

Ds started to say dada today. He says mama but everything else is 'caca'. He points to everything he wants so he doesn't really have an incentive to learn the words.

knickers - the check is at different times in different areas. Some have it at 8 months and some at 10. In my area it's 12 months. Your gp should write to you about the vaccinations but if they haven't then phone them up. They should have the hib/men c booster at 12 months and the first mmr at 13 months.

Thanks lizzie and knickers. Dd has sung 'happy birthday alex balex' to him a few times.

Dh's grandad passed away at 3 o'clock this morning Dh isn't up yet but I doubt he'll be in the mood for celebrating ds' birthday. We're supposed to be going to sil's today so hopefully that will help if he still wants to go. Not sure how to tell dd or how she'll react. She wasn't that close to him and hasn't seen him since the beginning of May but I think she'll still be upset.

Sorry about your sad news Gill. It often happens that they seem to pick up shortly before they go. How unfortunate for you all for it to have happened on Alex's birthday. Happy birthday to the little man though!! Hopefully your dd will take it well and you get a few happy moments today with ds.

Happy birthday to Charlotte too! x

loler sorry to hear about your autoimmune thingy, I'm glad you're feeling better but do make sure you get rest where you can (god knows how with three kids, eh!)

I've no idea when we'll ttc the next one Gill, tbh I hate the idea of having to give birth again so much it's put me right off. Unless it happens accidentally, we probably won't ttc for at least a couple of years. It's too scary.

J had his jab, he was ok, only cried for a second. HV thinks his spotty nappy rash is thrush, but I've put canesten on him a couple of times so far and the redness hasn't improved.

Congrats on the pay rise, conker. It all helps, eh!

Uki, sorry to hear it's so cold there, guess it'll be an inside teddy bears picnic then!

We had a mini breakthrough last night, he fed himself some milk from a cup instead of a bottle. Hopefully this means we can start to use the bottle less and less.

He's starting to understand (though doesn't always listen) when I say simple commands like "no" "be careful" "get down" and "dirty, spit it out" - it's making life gradually easier.

Yesterday he was a little sod though! Climbed up on the sofa, found the open bottle of talc (my fault) shook it in a thick layer all over my laptop and the brown cord sofa! aargh.

Ds isn't interested in his milk this morning. When I asked him if he wanted some he just pointed up at the Cheerios grinning. He didn't want his dinner again yesterday but was quite happy to share ours

Dh was ok yesterday and still in good spirits. He said it was nothing compared to losing his mum. He spoke to his nan who is being very strong and said it was a shame it happened on ds' birthday and he'll have to have his present late. Dh told her to forget about it and think about herself! The funeral is on Friday.

James - I found giving birth to dd very traumatic. I shuddered every time I thought about it. Second time round I was much more prepared for what was going to happen and much more in control. I was already thinking about planning the next one when ds was still tiny.

Hope you got all of the talc out James. It's good when they start to understand more. Ds is the same as J. He listens when he wants to. I'm always having to tell him to spit out dd's play cutlery and alphabet magnets.

Glad your dh is coping ok gill. Well done to him for being so srtong and trying to be in good spirits for ds' birthday.

James, hope you got the talc out! J sounds like a little character! I much prefer the toddler stage to the baby stage, Joe seems to understand so much now. He doesn't always listen though and throws a pretty good tantrum when I take him away from things he wants to play with!

Gill, my ds went through a stage of not wanting to be spoon fed, meal times were becomming a battle which I didn't want to happen so I just let him eat finger foods, which meant he lived off cheerios, toast and roasted parsnips for about a month! He just didn't want to eat anything other than that, I tried preparing loads of things and doing BLW but all he wanted was those 3 things! It didn't last long and is massively better now he can feed himself with a spoon, he eats everything we do now and loves using the spoon and all the mess that goes with it. It took me ages washing cottage pie out his hair last night!

Happy birthday all the babies born today, the 16th was a popular day!

HI

HAPPY BIRTHDAY James, Alex, Laura and Jake

Gill -sorry to hear of dh and your loss, sad too for his wife, hope she is OK
Glad you managed to have a goodish day for Alex.
LL won't eat much anymore either, he likes fruit and that's about it, he will take one bite of things but that's it, very annoying.

We had our indoor teddybears picnic, it went well, just 2 friends and kids came, no family, poor 2nd dc's they get a bit forgotten about , but my friends bought LL a really nice ride on fire engine, even though i said no presents, he really loved it too. All the teddies and kids had fun, we had prizes for the bears and played pin the tail on the donkey.

hear hear -to gill and 2nd labours/births, I went from 17 hours to two. A lot less to be scared about JB

Gill, ooops! Sounds like it's time to start soaking Alex's cheerios in milk first! Does he like weetabix/porridge?

James is eating our food more than ever now, he often has cereal for breakfast, a cheese sandwich and fruit for lunch, and our pasta or whatever for dinner. I still have a few jars in because he won't eat meat apart from in jars and I worry about him not getting enough iron and protein.

Glad your dh is doing ok. How is his uncle doing now?

oops x posts (got distracted halfway through writing previous one- bloody kids)

Happy birthday to all the 16th babies: James, Alex, Levi, Laura and Jake- have a great day!

meandmyjoe, wow at joe eating with a spoon! James just throws his on the floor.

Uki, J is slowly growing to dislike green veg, starting with broccoli and cucumber. It's very annoying, but he will have broccoli if it's cut up small in pasta or whatever. He's also gone off his precious blueberries, but he does love anything strong tasting these days, garlic, tomatoes, curry etc- must get that from me!

Uki, your second dc took just 2 hours?? good god. Sounds fast and furious. Mine would have been faster (took 11 hours) if they hadn't have made me lie flat on my back for it, it was progressing nicely when I was standing holding onto dp. Gonna be flat on my back for the next one though too cos I'm definitely having an epidural. Theres no way I could go through that pain again. Kudos to those of you who can hack it, I can't!

hi guys! not posted for months, combination of no time and very annoying computer problems. hopefully we have now got the computer sorted so i'll try and keep up a bit more! i've been scanning the thread when i get the odd moment free at work but always feel guilty after a few minutes.

so happy birthday to all the babes, where has this year gone? matilda was born on the third so we had her party a couple of weeks ago. we had a separate one for the grandparents and great-grandad and then on the 2nd we had one for her little friends, our sisters, friends etc. was praying for good weather so we could all be in the garden but no! still cannot believe the number of people we crammed inside! we had fab time but i was totally shattered for the whole weekend! matilda's doing great. was walking at ten months which has been interesting to say the least! hasn't worked out how to get back down stairs safely yet! lots of teeth. last count was ten with four more breaking. this has been her worst period of teething so looking forward to this lot ending. feel so sorry for them when they're clearly not happy. babbling lots and learning where her head and tummy is. think i overdid it a bit because every time i said matilda she's clamp her hands onto her head just in case i was going to ask where's your head! bit of a pavlovian response! now she's learnt tummy as well so just need to decide which body part is next. might teach her mummy and daddy though first. she's babbling and getting very demanding. ponts at what she wants and says NEEEAY or something to that effect! favourtie food definitely pesto and pasta, fantastic quick option when all else has failed!

congratualtions to all those that are expecting again. i feel broody again some times but mostly i know i'm not ready yet. no way we could afford another one just yet and also i want to try and get on a bit at work again. seems futile because we probably will ttc in another year or so and then i would have to leave again. just feeling a bit torn about what i want at the moment.

sorry to hear of the tough times some of you have been having the past few months. feel bad for jumping in and out of the thread and not being able to support you properly. thank goodness for tasha, james, my2, gill and all the other stalwarts keeping the thread buzzing.

enjoy your weekends!

Morning. Dh got me up before 7 this morning even though it was supposed to be my turn for a lay in. He blames it on not being able to get to sleep at night. Maybe he should stop laying in til 10

Got quite annoyed yesterday. I put a post on behaviour and development about dd soiling her knickers regularly again. I'd given up on sticker charts and don't want to go down the sweets route again so I started taking away favourite toys in case that made a difference but it didn't. Someone simply put in a post that I had made her very angry for punishing a 3.5 year old. I was only acting on previous advice from mn and the gp as they all told me she was doing it for attention. Why do some people bother posting if they've got nothing constructive to say?

I remember my niece being able to spoon feed herself at 12 months meandmyjoe. I don't think dd was able to do it properly until she was nearly 2 though. I gave ds fish fingers and vegetables for dinner last night so he could feed himself. He ate most of it and then had grapes for afters. He favoured the peas, sweetcorn and carrots and only ate a bit of fish. I'm going to see if mum can still spoon feed him as he doesn't play up nearly as much for her. If he does then I'll just have to send him with meat and veg in the future. He'll eat yoghurts nicely from a spoon so that's good.

James - ds loves weetabix and banana and I have a feeling he would still eat that from a spoon. I'll try him this morning. I would give him our food but dh refuses to cook without salt and I'd worry too much that he's having too much. I really wish I could remember when I started giving dd our dinners.

Dh's uncle is back at home now thankfully. He's not going back to work yet though. Apparently his sodium level was 2 points away from death (on a scale of 1 to 10 he was 2!). He was very lucky the doctor spotted it when he did.

Glad ll had a good party. My dd had a big party for her 1st birthday but I just couldn't be bothered with it for ds. Agree about second dcs. I'm a middle child and always felt forgotten about.

Hi leifmum. Nice to hear from you. Glad the party was good fun.

GillL

I know you mean about some people who seem to post just to cause offence/arguement.

I had this with Lizzie (4.6yrs) after Lexie was born and when she started school (all happen within weeks).

What we did was got Lizzie choose a toy that she wanted (a barbie fairy doll) so we took a print off the site and attached to a starchart for a week. So she could see what she had to do to get what she wanted.

We still get the odd accident, which tends to be when she hasn't been drinking enough. I also watch for certain behaviour she tends to sit very stiff and her eyes get watery so if i catch her i send her to the toilet which seems to be helping and giving lots of attention when she goes.

I hope you get it sorted out soon as i know how hard it is to stop getting angry.
