I had to do drops for ds when he was quite small, and I literally had to pin him to the bed with one arm, but have it at such an angle that I could use that hand to open an eye. The other hand was used to squeeze the drop in!

CaptainDippy · 08/08/2008 10:03

Ditto to what MJ said I'm afraid

NorthernLurker · 08/08/2008 10:05

I had drops for B a few months ago. If there are two of you one can pin the child down - watch out for those lashing arms! and then the other can prise and squirt. If I was doing it by myself I tended to clasp her to my ample bosom with one arm leaving the hand free to attempt creating a target area and then the other hand did the drops. Quite often her eyes were tight shut (she really, really hated it) but I sort of hoped that the stuff that pooled in the corner of eye would get transferred in. It doesn't usually take much to do the trick tbh.

StealthPolarBear · 08/08/2008 10:10

Thanks everyone! I also squirted it at his lashes hoping it would seep through!
Will do a couple more today and then DH should be around to help over the weekend - by which time it should be much improved!
His eyes were stuck together this morning, poor thing was so upset
How is everyone? When do you start new job NL?

NorthernLurker · 08/08/2008 10:15

That sounds hopeful SPB - it is upsetting isn't it? What drops have you got?

I should be able to put my notice in next week so will start second week in September Unfortunately for my current managers two weeks of my notice period will be spent on hols Unfortuntaely for me that means next week and the week after I get back are going to be nightmareishly busy.....

CaptainDippy · 08/08/2008 10:18

I'm not feeling so bad this morning, throat still yukky and still a bit nauseous; but doing ok. Lots of work to catch up on now - eeeek!

NorthernLurker · 08/08/2008 10:20

Hurrah for feeling a bit better Dippy! Did the GP make you another appt or is it just a case of go when you need to? Good luck with the work.

StealthPolarBear · 08/08/2008 10:22

Hi NL and Dippy
When and where are you going NL?
Dippy, glad you're feeling a bit better x

NorthernLurker · 08/08/2008 10:27

will be off line from next Friday and as for where - a scottish island

CaptainDippy · 08/08/2008 10:48

Sounds great NL wish I could get away from here for a few days .....

Have to go back for repeat bloods in 10 days to see what's happening and if the anti-b's are doing their job.

NorthernLurker · 08/08/2008 11:18

{sad] dippy - I'll renew my request for a holiday home at church shall I? You could have had our house but bil and wife are coming down and using it whilst we're away What about October 1/2 term - what are K's school dates for that? I could put the dates in and see what happens? At least I can say I've actually met you now

mammyjo · 08/08/2008 11:23

Cd, I am so glad you are feeling a bit better. Long may it continue.

Off now, my mate has just arrived with her two children. Ds is happy because he has bigger friends to play with
See you all later

CaptainDippy · 08/08/2008 11:54

Still hanging around! Hello!

StealthPolarBear · 08/08/2008 14:25

hi dippy

CaptainDippy · 08/08/2008 18:27

Evening all

hensden · 08/08/2008 19:16

Hello all, just popped on to see how you all are. Glad to hear your first results were good elkie, and congratulations another boy. We're having trouble thinking of boys names yet again.. so any favourites give me some ideas. I'm due DC4 on 24/10 or 27/10 depending on scan/LMP so maybe a halloween baby. I really want a Home Birth but got the 'Oh that will be unlikely, as we're very busy in October and there will probably be a shortage of MW's' but we are really stuck for child care as my mum who normally comes will be 80 by then and can't manage the stairs and can't pick up DS2, all other family are hours/days away and we don't really know anyone well enough here to ask them to look after 3 children, so if I can't have a HB I might have to go it alone
Eddas a new car how exciting, you found one very quickly. We need a bigger car but can't find one we can afford. I'm dreading it i'm so used to little hatchbacks and a 7 seater will be like a lorry for me. Do any on you drive big cars? Am I just a wimp??. I have said to DH that as there'll be a spare seat we'll have to try for DC5 to fill it he said he was off to the shed to perform a DIY versectomy.
DS2 has been a little star having got 7 new back teeth in the last fortnight and other than devil poo nappies not a whimper.
There do seem to be a lot of us who have babies starting big school in September I'm dreading it DD is so looking forward to it I'm going to be a heavily preg wreck. I didn't feel like this with DS1 maybe it's the hormones but it's making me sad already and it's weeks away.
Anyway enough about my moans.
Hope Elkie/ooogs are past the wobbly/sick trimester soon... are you going to find out the sex ooogs do you really think it's a pink bean
Here's to a sunny, happy, heathly, wealthy August for us all
Love to the April ladies
Hensden

elkiedee · 08/08/2008 19:44

Nice to see you Hensden. Planning to try for another already?

StealthPolarBear · 08/08/2008 19:48

Hi everyone
I was a Hallowe'en baby - can recommend it!

Sexonlegs · 08/08/2008 20:08

Evening all

Hensden, lovely to see you. Sounds as if you have your hands full

MJ, hope you had a good day with your friend and her dc. Did it rain????

Dippy, how have you felt today?

SPB, how is T now? K had gunky eyes earlier in the week, but luckily they cleared up on their own in a day. She has a rash on her tummy now instead

NL, which scottish island? Sounds lovely.

Hope everyone is ok.

We have had a good day. Went to a park this afternoon that has mini steam railway - K loved it!

Feel rough today - sort of virally, and knackered. K was awake at 1 last night with teeth and took ages to go back to sleep.

Feeling rather naffed off with dh today as well. We had a talk on Monday - well I talked at him. Along the lines of just feeling like we are friends/flat mates etc etc. He was v upset and we said we would make sure we sat and ate dinner away from the TV etc. Last night he had to work when he got home and ate his dinner at the laptop, and tonight he has buggered off cycling with mates. Tomorrow, either he or I are babysitting for friends. Grrrrrr.
Also still pissed off about these arsing energy efficient lightbulbs. Dh put one in K's room which is on a dimmer switch. Anyway, at 1 o'clock when I was up dealing with K the stupid thing went mad - flashing on and off and then fading to complete darkness. So today I changed it back! He got home and realised what I had done and was really pissed off with me saying I had to compromise. FFS.

I feel so angry - I know it is minor, but it has pissed me off!

Rant over

elkiedee · 08/08/2008 21:18

SOL, sorry you're having trouble with dh. But your daughter's bedroom isn't actually about you making a compromise, particularly if those bulbs don't actually work with dimmer switches.

I found energy efficient bulbs odd at first but have got really used to them now. We have paper lanterns over them as lightshades and they hide the fact that the bulbs are a bit ugly plus they diffuse and distribute the light which I think makes it seem better. I was amazed how hard they are to find but think I've seen them in the IKEA catalogue.

geordieminx · 08/08/2008 21:26

Hey ladies.

Been lurking but not really had much to say. Have finally got the laptop back... apparently the fans were clogged with dust ... If they thought the laptop was bad they should see the rest of my house!

Sis in laws best friend died yesterday, I didnt know her very well but its still upset me a fair bit, although I think more for the upset that sis is going through. She had cancer for quite a while and knew it was terminal but is still very sad. Sis went on holiday, got back on tuesday, friend had been admitted the day she left and never made it home. She was only 41. . She died at 2am, sis missed her by 10 minutes but stayed with her all night and day as she didnt want her to be by herself

Sexonlegs · 08/08/2008 21:48

GM, so sorry to hear such sad news Good to see you.

Elkie, we have paper lanterns in a few rooms too - I love them They remind me of my childhood! K has a paper lantern in her room so the actual light it gives out is fine. It is just when you try to dim the light it flashes madly - not what I needed at 1 a.m. as it gave me a real headache - like a strobe effect.

elkiedee · 08/08/2008 22:31

Sorry to hear about your SIL's friend GM.

SOL, sounds like those lightbulbs would be better put where you're not using dimmer switches, if you have such fittings. Your dh should have talked to you before changing stuff like that around.

StealthPolarBear · 09/08/2008 08:31

Morning everyone
GM, so sorry to hear about your SIL's friend.
SOL at your DH, hope he starts listening to his own advice
I'm coming down wwith man flu urgh. Glad to hear K;s gunk went fast - was that with the drops or without? He's had 3 lots so far but I haven't seeen any improvement!
Plus the leaflet inside the box disagrees with the sticker the pharmacy stuck on in a few places so I'm not sure what I should be doing!

Eddas · 09/08/2008 08:31

sol, sorry to hear you're having dh troubles. hope you get them sorted we have energy lightbulbs in all our lights. they don't like dimmer switches! Maybe there are some that do? I'd tell dh to investigate if he's so keen all in all they are dim when they first switch on but brighten up quite quickly.

Hensden, lovely to see you. I prefer small cars too so would be nervouse about a 7 seater. I'll come and look after your dc whilst you're in hospital. It's a genuine offer, your only just down the road from me aren't you? Or i'll come and listen to you moo Hopefully they'll let you have a HB though if you'd rather have that. seems unfair.

CD, how are you? are the ab's having any affect yet? Let me know when you're free to meet up as I get the new car on monday so will be able to get down to you. I can do any days but friday

All ok in Eddas world atm. I think i'm eating too much rubbish though as I had horrible tummy ache yesterday. I have no sympathy for myself though as I think it's self inflicted. So from today my pledge is to eat better that'll last all of a day but I need to so will try my very best. I also think that i'm tired all the time and it's got to be what i eat and lack of exercise so i'm going to try and get out walking with dc.

Anyone doing anything exciting today? I have the pleasure of cleaning/tidying, dd's room in particular is a disgrace! Then dh is taking dd swimming if she's been good this morning. I should take ds too but i'm going to enjoy the peace of dd being out

'see' you all later x
