OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LadyBee · 19/08/2008 09:06

Hi
I've just got off the phone with GP and have an appointment at 11.45 this morning - it's such madness trying to get a same-day appointment, you have to call on the dot of 8:30 and even while I was speaking to the receptionist three appointments were offered then 'oops, that one's gone, let's look for the next one'.
It won't be with my named GP, which is a pity because he saw me for the 8 week check of BabyB so would have an idea of what I was like before I started pill. Anyway, at least I've got an appointment and that makes me feel like I'm doing something right. I didn't take my pill yesterday evening and won't today either regardless of what dr says - for some reason I keep thinking, what if dr says it isn't pill and I have to keep taking it, but that's just stupid isn't it, it's my choice whether I take a contraceptive pill or not. Just feel nervous about the appointment generally, DP isn't coming with me although he's said he'll come home at any time if I want him to.
I called him after posting yesterday, asked him to come home (crying) and then just gave DS a top and tail type wash and got on with feeding him. Told DP how I'd been feeling, he'd picked up on some of it but had no idea about the thoughts (obviously, because I've been trying to ignore it & didn't want to say anything that would worry him)and my fear that they'd make me do something that would harm DS, just by thinking them.
I think he gets it though.

Sal, thanks for offer of company - I'm actually going to my regular meet up with RL a/n group this afternoon (good timing), don't really feel like it but I think it would do me good to have some adult distraction. If you're feeling brave and want to meet some new people & babies you'd be very welcome to join us, will text details.

We're supposed to have had DS's 3rd immunisations by now but they're so busy they couldn't get an appointment set up until early September, when he'll ~20 weeks rather than 16. Such a pain, I want to take him swimming and can't til he's done all three.

How odd. How can I write/think perfectly happily about taking DS swimming, which would involve both a car trip and large quantities of water, and yet both these things reduced me to a wreck in past two days.

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 19/08/2008 09:12

LadyBee, did you read my 'I'm so scared he's going to die' thread?
So much of what you're saying sounds like me, even down to thinking the thoughts but not daring to verbalise them, incase it made it worse.
Hopefully it will be the pill, if it is it's certainly a lot quicker to sort out. As Scorpio said, I felt better within about three days.

LadyBee · 19/08/2008 09:28

yeah I did, which I think helped me finally acknowledge it was actually happening.
It is similar, isn't it - although for me I feel like the act of having these fears is what is going to make something happen, just by thinking it, whereas I remember for you, you seemed more scared that if you didn't have the fears you would make some mistake that would harm him.
I was trying to explain to DP yesterday, that I feel like I'm battling another me, who is all emotion, and she's terrified and because she's terrified is going to do something really stupid one day. And I can use my intelligence and rationality and try persuade myself that I won't do anything, that I'm a good & careful mother, but even knowing that, and sort of believing it, doesn't affect the 'feeling' side of me from feeling the way it does.

ok. Am clearly batty, talking about two me's.

SalLikesCoffee · 19/08/2008 10:11

Hi all.

Great to hear you got appointment, Ladybee. Thanks for antenatal meetup offer, but as long as you're ok I'll take the day easy (Roelof getting his jabs at 2, so in case he gets groggy).

These hormones (if it's that) are so scary - I cannot believe doctors don't make it clearer how common reactions are! And how it would be good to get checked out on the first signs etc. For all I know I'll be pregnant next week, but I've decided not to bother with any hormones at all as I am relatively sensitive to it anyway.

We're going to view another nursery at 11 this morning. I've got Roelof booked in at that small one I talked about the other day (9 kids max), but found this one (only from 3 years old) that is a little more structured, and they've got swimming and french included as part of the nursery activities, so kind of tempted for when he's older. Will see.

OMaLittle · 19/08/2008 10:26

Hi all - good luck LadyBee, sounds like the pill to me since it's escalated so quickly (like VS) - I have similar stuff but can (just) keep it in check (it's just there, it doesn't tend to spiral out of control) and I think it's sleep deprivation, so if you've got that too then that's not going to help!

MHAH - I used a lady who is registered with Maternal Response and Maternally Yours, both of which agencies have been recommended multiple times. She was great. It's fearfully expensive - £12 an hour. I will email you her name though I'm sure she wouldn't mind the free publicity!

WELL, DD2 stayed at her grandma's on Sat and took all the milk I left for her, I fed her around 6.30 then jumped on train back to London (where I went out rather than going to bed - had a brilliant night, though!). She fed at 11.45, 5am and 9.45am!! I was so excited about Sunday night, but no, 12.30, 1.30, 2.30 (when I fed her). Still, last night (I woke up with a streaming cold yesterday) I went to bed at 9, DH fed at 10.30 and next thing I knew I was waking up at 2.30!! and was able to doze on and off through slight yells until 3.30, when she fed, then went down again until 7.20! WOW. I feel like a snotty new woman.

Hope all is well with everyone else.

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 19/08/2008 10:50

I want to start leaving Alex to make noise during the night but I know he'll wake DP up and I don't think it's fair as he has to go to college.

Alex woke up at 10:45 last night (just after we went to bed), 1:30, 3:15, 4:45 and then DS1 woke up at 5:10, then Alex again at 6:00am, then DP got up at 7:00am so I got up around 7:30.

Strangely this has been happening the last few nights but I don't feel that tired, I think it's because I co-sleep, however I also think he is only waking because I co-sleep. He goes much longer between feeds in the day, but does feed well when waking at night.

OMaLittle · 19/08/2008 10:54

VS, DH is in the spare room. Probably will be until we move DD2 out but [for the best]. Sometimes he starts off in our room but I find it too hard when he gets up and leaves! Having said that, if we had 3 kids we wouldn't have a spare room, so I guess maybe you don't...

scorpio1 · 19/08/2008 11:25

Hello All

France 2 weeks FRIDAY

J had a hearing test today but i still am convinced he has hearing probs, but they said all clear? no machines, just whispering and things.

DH's work van is dying, fanbelt went this morning, it needs tax, brakes, power steering pump, arrgghh!! Think we are going to have to borrow money from parents to go on holiday - like i said to Dad, money for work (ie van) comes before jolly's im afraid. Dss mother has rung up asking for £80 for school uniform; DH just agreed, so thats more money. So we are paying fuel(end of month) & his school uniform. She works FT though, and we pay what csa says? Never mind! He must need it....and if mine have it then he has to as well, y'know? He can never say when he is older that we didnt do/give what he needed.

Millie slept through last night - but i am not, i seem to have a snoring 12stone heap of man next to me every night - i slept in the front room last night!!

DonDons · 19/08/2008 11:41

Scorpio at your holiday - I love love love france but don't think we will be gettting away this year as we are having work done on the house (am really looking forward to that mess starting ina bout 2 weeks I don't think)

Ladybee - hope you appointment goes well. And as for swimming - is there a reason you can't go before jabs? The NHS website says it is fine to go and we have been swimming for about 4 weeks now. DD loves it.

Denny - can't thank you enough for the aspirator tip - is really helping. Amelie slept through again last night but seems to be off her feeds today although otherwise seems okay and still no temp. Have an appointment at the GP this aft for me so I might just get her checked over (PFB alert!)

DH is in our spare room most nights too.

scorpio1 · 19/08/2008 11:46

Pics on profile from today (top two)

LOL at PFB i never had that; i have serious PSB issues though!

scorpio1 · 19/08/2008 11:50

My local Woolies is looking for Xmas staff, was thinking weekends and late night shopping nights.....but im not sure? Thought money could be extra xmas spends or something, plus doing something for myself

Have never had a job apart from when i was 14/15/16 in a kitchen in a restaurant. Stopped when i was pg with R (at 16) and that was that....

Thoughts?

DonDons · 19/08/2008 12:06

Would your working fit in with DH's work/fights? Would he be happy to look after the kids/or can somebody else?

If so, I say if you fancy doing it then go for it! You may love it or you may hate it. If it's the latter well presumably it is a temp position so you don't have to keep going after Xmas is out of the way. Either way, you've got nothing to lose by giving it a go.

scorpio1 · 19/08/2008 12:10

DH's work is standard Mon-Fri 8-5 each week so thats ok. Not so sure about fights though(fight training Sundays 11-2) - posistion is for 12 weeks. Will have to check that - oh yes DH great with dc, he would have them.

All 3 of mine are asleep

DonDons · 19/08/2008 12:13

well then, I think if you really want to do it you should apply and see how it goes - and best of luck to you too.

Mine is alseep too.....hope it lasts long enough for me to eat something, am starving (as always)

scorpio1 · 19/08/2008 12:18

i'm a bit nervous about it though...but sure i would like it.

Im having a weightwatchers meal for lunch, im on a diet, have lost 4lbs in last 2 weeks

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 19/08/2008 12:25

Would you be alright with not seeing DH though?

scorpio1 · 19/08/2008 12:26

Probably not

God am i clingy???

DonDons · 19/08/2008 12:34

I'm having a tuna melt and sod the diet again

absence makes the heart grow fonder though?

you could always jack it in after a couple of weeks if you were really unhappy

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 19/08/2008 12:36

I only ask because I wouldn't work nights as it's mine&dp's time

scorpio1 · 19/08/2008 12:39

late night shopping nights for xmas here are thursdays, for 5 weeks so not too much.

Plus is only 15 mins walk away.

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 19/08/2008 12:45

u know how many hours a week the job is for?
IT's likely they'll want you to do saturday and sundays.(again I wouldn't work those days because it's 'our' time, plus I won't be able to work anything other than school hours without getting childcare now because of DP's shifts.)

scorpio1 · 19/08/2008 12:47

you just tick what you can work on the application form.

oh i dunno.

IShaggedInVictorianSqualor · 19/08/2008 13:06

Go for it then. The most they can do is say that they want you to work weekends, and then if you don't want to you can always say no thanks.

SalLikesCoffee · 19/08/2008 13:12

Scorpio - How Millie has grown! On the working, I don't know really. I guess if it's only one night a week (say if Thursdays) that's ok, as you can try and recover the Friday, but weekends might be a bit hard, as you'd be exhausted by Monday, when you have to deal with the kids on your own. Dh might also be tired and needing attention, so I guess if you think you'll have enough energy in the evenings, fair enough, but keep that in mind.

Lots of people do this, and like you say, would be good to have extra money to spend on something nice/fun, but personally I won't work whole weekends if I've got the choice, as that's the only time I have quiet and relaxed with dh. (Also, I'm lazy. ) I wonder if they'd take you Saturday mornings only etc.

gemprincess · 19/08/2008 14:02

Hi ladies, how are you all doing?tried to catch up on posts but given up. Been sooooo long.Ashton is 23 weeks now and time is flying by.
