lilyloo - DH knows i have been unhappy on pill for AGES so any shenanigans are up to him to sort out

My mum just rang and reminded me that at DD's age we have left Ds with her and gone away for 2 days and he was fine. There is NO WAY I could do that with DD. Although we see my family on a regular basis I don't think she knows who they are so holiday will be nice as she gets to know them more.

Madmouse - I know what you mean about wanting to do one thing with Lo's and them having other ideas

simpson · 14/08/2008 21:25

Madmouse - I hear you packing is HELL!!!!

Isabellasmam · 14/08/2008 21:49

hi all, been busy the last few days sorting out dd's christening which is on sunday and just spent ages skim reading all the posts.

Lily - I'm a little bit far away for a meet up, I think Preston is atleast 3 hours away from me.

Simpson - my dd will not eat anything that isnt in a jar or a yoghurt except toast or chocolate buttons. tried her with fruit, weetabix, pasta and scrambled egg so far and shes not having any of it. I think I'll just have to keep trying.

MrsMcJnr · 15/08/2008 00:38

Phew! It has taken me 2 days to catch up (well an hour each night!)! Won?t let it go that long again!! So I have 15 pages worth of comments, sorry!

Simpson ? would you recommend an activity station? I feel that now DS?s swing and chair are no longer safe, I need new entertainment for him. Interesting the chat about teats, I thought, given his age I should change DS to medium flow ones but he struggles and the milk goes everywhere so have had to go back to the slow ones am a bit baffled as thought he?d love to get more faster! I have a bumbo for DS, got it for £7 on eBay. I didn?t use it much before I started weaning him because he could topple it backwards even when he was 4 months but it has now come into it?s own as we feed him in it and its fab. We plan to take it to the beach too. Hope you have a great holiday!

Rockdoctor ? how is it going now that you have given up BF? Do you have any regrets? I only ask because some days I wish I was still feeding more and other days I wish I wasn?t trying to feed at all doesn?t help that he is more often than not rejecting the breast altogether now

Gingeme ? is George still bottle guzzling? Do you use your bread maker often? Enjoy that TV!! Sorry to hear about your pooey day!

Isabellasmam ? can?t wait to see Mama Mia, it opens here this week! DH and I saw The Dark Knight tonight as it has just arrived, it was fab, my folks watched DS (they will only look after him until they go to bed at 10pm though!) good idea about the alphabet squares, I am paranoid about DS falling on the marble floor (again ). He has my yoga mat under him most of the time! I don?t think I bought much that I didn?t use and I sold the stuff I didn?t (like a really hard breastfeeding cushion!) if you ever want to sell on the spares muslins, let me know, I can?t get them here I think grobags are fab!

Madmouse ? I totally agree, our babies are so much more important than legal careers if only my pocket thought so I hope you can get the job share or part time for are looking for. Nathan is such a cutie! that childminder sounds great!

Fillybuster ? how was Henley?? Hope you had a lovely time. Lovely name Tamara

Luckysalem ? wow, your DD can do so much more than my DS! He can roll every which way and sit up alone now but only if I pull him up to sit. Really sorry about the dog hon we still love the name Aaliyah how are people taking to it? We have a few issues with Xavier as we pronounce it X-avier (like X- ray) rather than Zavier as most people want to call him. Xavier can do all the things on the development list apart from the last section. I?ve tried saying things for him to repeat, didn?t work here either! What book do you have on the subject?

Justkeepswimming ? glad you enjoyed your working holiday in London know exactly how you felt when your DS fell off the bed! I use coloured muslins for face and white for bottoms. DS is quite attached to the coloured ones! Agree about the bibs, DS rips off the Velcro ones.

Betterhalf ? how many kids do you foster and are they with you full time?

Latrucha - is it nice to be home again? Bet you are looking forward to 6 months over here next year my DS is loving clapping games at the moment like pat a cake and head, shoulders, knees and toes etc. I play them with him in his bumbo so we can make eye contact. I had to taste EBM at security when we flew over here uggghh! DS has two teeth and we wipe them with gauze before he goes to sleep.

Simpson ? we are hoping to get DS christened in the family gown too (it was my Mum?s wedding dress made into a christening gown so I wore it too) but we are waiting for it to cool down here and just hope that it will still fit him! LOL at your DS making lion noises at 5am, must be difficult not to chuckle at that!

Lilyloo ? your pics are gorgeous! So glad the christening went well! Ahhh so lovely to read the old thread! Where are all those lovely ladies? For all that time I had a list of all our due dates in my diary and I did start marking them off when the babies started to arrive until mine did and then I seemed to have no time for anything anymore!

Nicky6 ? don?t those doorframe bouncers tire them out?! how is your work situation now? Any easier? Bananas and avocados will be useful for you to give DD when you are away, you can just mash them together or have them on their own. I weigh less than before DS was conceived (still too heavy though) and yet I still can?t get into things, it must be distributed differently with most of it on my tummy

Barristermum ? hey there you are one of the people I really missed talking to during my ?sabbatical?! I am so pleased to hear that all is going well with Cerys but I am sorry to hear that you are not well, I hope you feel a lot better after the op hon. Its fantastic that Cerys loves nursery, it must make being back at work so much easier for you that book you recommended sounds nice, must look for that

Bluebell ? how are you hon? Any better? Don?t stop talking to us, hopefully it helps I agree with Housemum?s advice, I?ve read (and am re-reading because we are rowing a lot ) How to babyproof your marriage and one of its tips is to make the child speak to the parent rather than in law to in law.

Kelix ? thanks for the empathy on the milk front, DS loves fromage frais and yoghurt but hasn?t tried cheese yet, what do you suggest first? DS loves throwing things for me to retrieve too my DS has been in his own room for about a month now and I still check constantly. Like you, I am very lucky, he sleeps through most nights.

Housemum ? it is a PITA when they escape things and you can?t use them for precious Mummy time anymore, the Galt ring is getting that way now too I?m very impressed by your pressie hoarding, what a good idea! That?s how I sterilise things all the time now as don?t have a microwave (it?s a pain) so its Milton tablets and an ice-cream box here too!

There doesn?t seem to be an equivalent of a HV here (some of you would be delighted!) so I take DS along to the chemist to get weighed every so often (today he was 8.150kg) but other than that we have no support now which is odd and scary all at the same time. I have met a few Mums and Babies though so I could ask them if anything came up. The biggest issue for us here is keeping the babies hydrated in this heat.

Housemum · 15/08/2008 01:04

Lilyloo - we don't exactly habe a strict routine, but in general it is as follows:

7am - DD3 wakes, has cuddle in bed with DH while I wash/dress, then breakfast (Weetabix mixed with formula or baby cereal mixed with water)

9.30/10 - BF & sleep (about 45 mins)

12.00 lunch - 1 of my small pots/half a stage 2 jar of food plus water in a sippy cup

mid afternoon - BF & sleep (about 1 - 1.5 hours)

5.00 tea - as lunch plus half a baby dessert or half yoghurt pot size portion of pureed fruit or semolina

7.30 bath if having (not every night)

8.00/8.30 BF and bed - may be an "on and off" feed - some nights she doesn't go to sleep till 9.30, others she's tired and asleep by 8

occasionally she wakes at night, either at midnight or 4, though in last weeks she's been fine

Looking at that I think she ahrdly eats anything? She seems to be growing though!

Must go to bed soon - been for night out which was v nice - we'd settled bill then friends decided to buy brandies./ports so couln't really say noo......

simpson · 15/08/2008 06:14

Ahhhhhh

Am knackered!! DD has had me up from 1am till 3am for no reason other than she wanted to play

Anyway just to say I am off soon!! And will chat in two weeks

Mrs Mcjunior - definitely get an activity station!! DD starting to love bumbo too.

Sorry no time for more personals brain frazzled!!

horsygirl · 15/08/2008 08:49

Hi folks you probably won't know me - not been on mumsnet for ages I just never seem to get a minute but I'd love to contribute more?

Ds just started rolling onto his tummy in the night and waking up moaning. DH 'adjusted' him 5 times last night.

Help!!!!

xxxx

LuckySalem · 15/08/2008 08:52

WOW - MrsMc!! Lol Well done at remembering all that. Its in the What to expect book. It's not working though. She just starts squealing if I try repeating her! lol

Bad night here last night as well. Didn't get to bed till midnight then by the time I got comfy and fell asleep it was about 12:30/1ish. DD woke up at 1:45, then 3 and then 5 before finally refusing to go back to sleep at 7:30. [yawn] and I've got SOOOO much to do today as well so can't even catch up on the sleep.

On a good note though we bought a new bed yesterday (delivery in about 3 weeks) its a superkingsize!!!! Its GOT to be comfier than this one!

lilyloo · 15/08/2008 08:55

She went down at 7 and not up again until 12 when she had pooed , quick change and feed up at 3.30 quick feed and then at 6 she came in our bed and slept until 8.30

lilyloo · 15/08/2008 08:59

Housemum thanks interesting about only one sleep after lunch will try that as dd still has a later nap before tea

Isabellas shame about meet up is there anywhere more central then ?

Lucky wow a superkingsize We have a kingsize and love it when all of us get in there

Horseygirl sorry can't remember who had this think they just had to ride with it but it was only couple of weeks. Can you not encourage him in day by putting him on tummy more so he learns to roll back himself?

OP posts:
horsygirl · 15/08/2008 08:59

Oh its so nice to hear I'm not the only one whose ds doesnt zonk out for a full uninterrupted 12 hours. i have read too much FinaGord I think as I feel a total failure in this respect!

I know, I know....

All that her books have done is make me anxious. Worst thing is, i can't umlearn what i've brainwashed myself with although I'm trying.

Going to come here for support instead xx

lilyloo · 15/08/2008 09:08

New thread title suggestions too ladies again

OP posts:
LuckySalem · 15/08/2008 09:09

Horseygirl - I dont know for definate but I'm sure I read somewhere that the problem with them sleeping on their tummy is overheating and suffocation cos they can't lift their heads when they're young but once they can lift their heads its not such a big deal and although you should re-arrange when you go to bed, don't worry about it once your asleep.

LuckySalem · 15/08/2008 09:10

New thread already??!?!?!

Something like we get knocked down but we get up again.

Or is there a song about rolling? I can't remember the bands name but "keep rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling"?

lilyloo · 15/08/2008 09:12

Lucky love 'keep rolling , rolling, rolling'!
Can't rememeber band name either ?
Was it of a western type programme 'rawhide'? Or have i just made that up

OP posts:
justkeepswimming · 15/08/2008 09:14

just a quickie to say more success last night:
ds2 slep 7- 3.45, then i either settled him or he settled himself on and off until 5 then he slept till ds1 woke him at 6. no feeds
and no crying, hooray, just rustling, the odd whimper, etc.
so can hardly say it's controlled crying really. saves my conscience!

back later

LuckySalem · 15/08/2008 09:18

I just found it!! It was limp bizkit

gingeme · 15/08/2008 09:59

Morning ladies. Welcome horsygirl. Were here to help
Mrsmcjnr yes George is still bottle guzzling tried to miss his lunch time bottle and giving him juice but he wasn't happy.
Another miffy night last night. He had a bottle at 7 for bed time. Then woke at 11 for another bottle then woke at 6am for another bottle and bum change. Got him up where he played till 8 till he started moaning and went back to bed where he still is
Just got a bundle of clothes for him from Ebay. All 9-12 months. Two lovely coats. Very pleased.
Well better go lo's are calling and crying etc.
Will try to pop by later. xxx

LuckySalem · 15/08/2008 10:19

keep rollin

betterhalf · 15/08/2008 11:19

Lilyloo Yes Toby was fine last night. hehe. ( sorry!)

MrsMcJnr We foster 2 teenage boys (groan! gluttons for punishment we are!) and they're with us full time. Been with us 5 years+ now.

Horsegirl I've been suffering from the same problem with DS rolling over then getting stuck and whinging about it so had to keep getting up all through the night. I was advised by Housemum I think it was to roll up some towels and put them under the mattress either side of him, and it worked a treat. Plus he's worked out now how to turn himself back over which helps. So hopefully, your LO will learn soon too and then you can have some peace.

lilyloo · 15/08/2008 13:36

Horseygirl this has what's become of my Gina Ford LOL

Lucky oops was miles away then Gingeme did rawhide have rolling , rolling, rolling in it ?

JKS fab

Betterhalf fab

I love all these sleepy babes think i am delirious off too much sleep
