Lucky - DD eats quite a big breakfast half a weetabix but lots of milk to bulk it out then fruit puree but her lunch is not enormous (3 or 4 cubes of pureed veg and 6oz milk. The problem is her tea. The other meals she just clamps her mouth and moves head from side to side and you know she has had enough but tea she would just go on and on... She gets quite cross if you stop as she wants more.I do give her finger foods to play with while getting Ds's tea but she hasn't quite worked out what to do. I think its coz she's so small if you looked at her you would think she was 4.5/5 mths old so not as strong as some 6mth LOs. Guess she must have a sweet tooth. DS was never like this

MrsMcJnr · 03/08/2008 23:51

Ladies, quick poll ? who is still bf? Have you had an AF yet? Anyone else thinking about another baby?

Simpson ? glad you like my DS?s name how awful about your DS?s fall we were so lucky, it could have been so much worse. The cold compresses along with the arnica did seem to work, you can barely see the bruise now. Your DD is just 5 days younger than my DS I so miss Tesco online now that I am in Spain!! Not sure what to suggest re the milk

Gingeme ? I agree, some routine is good, I think DH and I need it as much as DS! sorry to hear George took a tumble too, hope he was ok.

Luckysalem ? sorry about your DD?s fall my DH wanted to take DS straight to hospital! Some days my DS sleeps loads, others hardly at all, I guess even we have days like that are our age! That?s a pain about the bed, thought about a cheap one off Gumtree?

Housemum ? lovely long post hon your routine with Amelie sounds similar to mine with Xavier, I only realise when he?s with others how much of his nap times etc at based on the way he is behaving. Have you tried readitswpit.co.uk ? great way to get rid of old books and get news ones to read without any cost Your thoughts on BF are really similar to mine, I do change clothes and only really feed him myself at home. Hope the boat was fun! Gorgeous pics!

Nicky6 ? our ?routine? is different because we are in Spain but it?s roughly, first feed at 8.30 (from me) followed by a quick play and then breakfast, then more play before a sleep if we?re at home, it?s in his cot and always lasts longer than in the buggy. He usually sleeps for about an hour. Second feed is @ 12, from me if we are home but a bottle if we are out. Again, he plays then sleeps. He then has a bottle of milk and lunch at @ 3 just one course at the mo. Again, more play and sleep and then dinner @ 6/7 consisting of two courses and some juice. If he wants milk, I feed him myself but he?s really phasing that feed out. Again, he plays then sometimes sleeps for 20 mins or so. He then has a bath with Daddy @ 8.30/9, a massage and a story from me and then his bedtime bottle from Daddy (we?ve given him a bottle at night since 10 weeks. It used to be EBM but now it?s formula)

Madmouse ? I am with you on the smell of breast milk, it?s one of the reasons I only feed DS myself at home, I can?t stand the smell of stale milk on me in this heat.

Lilyloo ? how did it go? sorry to hear about the piles.

Kelix ? that?s my biggest fear about finger food, that he?ll choke. I gave DS a bit of rusk today but he wasn?t that keen.

Hope you are not too lonely Betterhalf

LOL Bluebell ? good for you!!

Housemum · 04/08/2008 00:11

Thanks MrsMc - weather wasn't great but sunny enough that when we moored at Marlow DD2 had a long play in the brilliant playground there, and we had a barbecue ont he towpath in the evening.

Though the buggy has had to be hosed down after I fished it out of the Thames! Me to DH after passing it out of the boat "could you please fold it up as it's a bit windy (Amelie fast asleep in cabin) - strolled off to get a trolley to unload the boat, came back to see DH and his dad heads down discussing something they were tinkering with, no sign of buggy - then got closer and saw something pink in the water! They hadn't even noticed the splash...

Madmouse - no idea what breastmilk smells like as gave up on expressing - but it does smell rank if she dribbles it on me. Luckily I haven't leaked since about 3 mths, don't know if that's same for everyone as never BF this long before.

Quick poll reply - no more babies (3 is plenty!) and exclusively BF, no AF but have now got Mirena so don't know if it's down to the BF or the coil.

Lilyloo (TMI alert !!!!!!) have had piles before on and off after DDs - recommend Anusol cream if you can bear to buy it. And (gross here) it does help if they, umm, stick out if you have a bath and (can't believe I'm typing this) use a finger to push them back up, so to speak. Wish I knew if there was a way to get rid for good, but from what I've heard an op to remove hurts more than they do. Wish I was brave enough to ask GP if they can do an injection to shrink/get rid as I'm sure I've heard of that before.

bluebell82 · 04/08/2008 08:38

Hi Simpson- I had this problem and have worried myself about it but Ruby is still sleeping fine.. if this helps..

6-7oz when gets up
Breakfast- 2 Weetabix with 5oz of milk + mashed banana
About midday 4oz
Lunch 30mins later- cottage pie etc + yoghurt
5pm 4oz of milk
5.30pm- fish/chicken etc +yoghurt with mashed banana
7pm bed..

She doesn't have a bed bottle just clamps her mouth, but my hv said 16oz is fine plus she is having dairy products too.. I offer her water and apple juice in the day of which she has a little but not much

I take the attitude that of Ruby was starving then she would wake me.

Portion sizes- I make all my own food for Ruby and have started freezing portions in plastic cups as containers are too expensive and you have to wash them!! She has about 3/4 of a plastic cup at each feed which is about 5 tablespoons.

Anybody struggled to get rid of the smell of fish in the house?? I made some cod and sweet potato for Ruby last night and my dh hates fish the smell makes him puke I am currently boiling mint leaves and olbas oil in an attempt to rid the house of the smell of dirty women!!!!!!

Hope this helps x

simpson · 04/08/2008 09:39

Bluebell - Cheers for that I think the problem is I need her into some sort of routine for her milk that is separate from meal times iyswim. She did have a great routine but upping the solids has totally changed it. She was having 35 ozs a day and is now having about 22 but has only drastically cut down in the last 2 days. She does eat quite big portions too. I have got 6 cubes out for her lunch of pureed veg. She has refused her weetabix this morning so has had half a fruitapura pot instead.

Housemum - Sorry I nearly dropped by morning cuppa over laptop I was laughing so much re buggy in water Not funny getting it dry I bet.

Mrs Mcjnr - I would like to have another with ideally 18mths between them but it took 6/7 mths to get pg with DD so that means starting TTC now yikes!!! DH is not so keen though and lack of space in house is a factor currently each DC has their own room but if we had another LO they would eventually share with DD.

Luckysalem - The one good thing to come of DD's tits up routine is when she did finally sleep again at 11pm ish she woke for the day at 8.30am.

I can hear DD doing her second poo of the day I have never known a baby to poo so much....

simpson · 04/08/2008 09:41

Forgot to ask Lilyloo how yesterday went??

rockdoctor · 04/08/2008 09:49

Hi everyone - big day here as I have finally decided to chuck the feeding bra and get back into something a little more supportive iykwim. I'm down to bf once or twice a day and have decided to switch to formula in the evenings and overnight in the hope that we can reduce some of the "comfort feeding" that I suspect is happening here. Having said that, DD took 4oz of formula when she woke at 2am so looks like she's genuinely hungry at that time. Still not sure how to persuade her to eat more during the day but hv suggested switching to formula at night may help. Let's see.

Sorry to hear about the bed and the daytime naps Lucky. If it's any consolation we have the same thing. DD is napping right now, it's the one time of day that she does, but once she wakes up it will be a battle to get her to settle again until bedtime. I have tried putting her in the cot regardless when I think she should be napping and leaving her to play with some toys for half an hour. It worked once and gave me a bit of a break but usually she will scream if she thinks I'm trying to get her to nap at home during the daytime.

Love the Spanish routine MrsMc. We lived over there for a while (no kids) and I must say I never got on with it, great for holidays but couldn't function at work even with the siesta.

Must say I am in awe of people that have managed to get a good routine going. God knows we tried, even had aspirations of a Gina baby early on, but I think DD is way too strong willed for that to happen.

Hello to everyone else, can hear whinging upstairs so sorry for lack of personals

More babies? Don't think so, I was pushing mid-40s when this little surprise came along...

gingeme · 04/08/2008 10:15

Morning ladies.
Just a quick question I know I should know this by now but do babys go through a growth spurt at 7 months? George woke at 1am drained a bottle,4am drained a bottle back to sleep fron 5-7.30 when dh got him up. Had a bottle and his usual breakfast at 8.30.!!
Anyone?

simpson · 04/08/2008 10:19

Gingeme - I think they have a MASSIVE growth spurt sometime between 6-7mths so it is probably that

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 10:23

Hi ladies, new to MN and have a 6mo dd born at the end of Jan. Is it ok to join in?

simpson · 04/08/2008 10:34

Hi Isabellasmam - Welcome What date was your DD born? Mine was born 29th Jan

madmouse · 04/08/2008 10:35

Hi, welcome! Always space for more here.

I take it your dd is called Isabella then lovely name. My Nathan was 6months on Friday!

bluebell82 · 04/08/2008 10:35

welcome Isabellasmam x

madmouse · 04/08/2008 10:47

MrsMc answers to your questions yes still bf no af yet and yes hoping for two more babes, but want sex life back on rails first, there is more to it than trying for a baby . But dh's new role is taking it out on him big times, plus nathan's nights have been horrid. However since the antibiotics have kicked in he has been much better, he slept from 9 til 1 then til 4 and then 7.15. He has fed briefly but greedily both times, had to endure a battle over antibiotics and a poo too at 1. Still leaves me feeling alot better.

Seeing his consultant today, I think she will be pleased with his development, but i am a bit nervous nevertheless, kind of 'what if she sees something we have missed'. But in my heart I know he is doing so so well

Lilyloo, waiting to hear how baptism went. We are doing baptism preparation in the autumn and aiming for an october date. Quite funny for our lay reader to do baptism prep with a clergy family. But hey, we are first time parents too

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 10:53

thanks for the welcome. isabella was born on the 29th of january as well, 7lb 4oz.

simpson · 04/08/2008 10:59

Madmouse - tell me about getting sex life back on track before trying for another Lo Have come off pill to get it out of my system but when we do get round to doing "it" are going to be careful for another couple of months or so. I don't even have the excuse of DD being a bad sleeper but am still knackered all the time. I think its because of DH's shift work and sometimes he doesn't get in till 11pm ish and then I want to chat to him so before you know it I am going to bed at at least midnight and DD wakes at 5am for bottle and then DS up 7.30/8am.

fillybuster · 04/08/2008 11:39

Hi all, no time for personals (have barely managed to catch up since thursday!) but just wanted to say 'woohoo!!!'....dh and I are off to Henley overnight in about an hour's time....just the 2 of us, no dcs for about 36 hours for our 7th wedding anniversary!!!! yay!!!

And we went out on Saturday night (played tennis!) and last night (saw Batman!!)... Am actually in ...we will be on our own out of the house 3 nights in a row.

Anyway, off to finish depilating, hair straightening, painting nails, packing nice new underwear etc etc...

Am so excited!!

Catch up with you all tomorrow night or weds xxx

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 13:10

has this group been going since you were pg? Where is everyone from? Am I right in thinking that some of you are thinking about another baby? Wow, thats keen!

Anyones baba making any consonant sounds like mama, dada etc... DD is just blowing rasberries all day, no sign of words or rolling over.

simpson · 04/08/2008 13:18

Isabellasmam - I am a late joiner too but this group has been going for most on here since finding out they were pg.

My DD is rather small so know where near ready to sit up etc. She can roll onto her front but then gets stuck she makes an awful noise over and over it sounds like a creaking door!!

LuckySalem · 04/08/2008 13:53

Issabella mum - Welcome. Nice to meet you. I'm from North Wales, thinking of having baby 2 but not till DD is a little older. We're gonna start trying once my pills run out which is another 4 months worth so.... DD was born 16th Jan.

Well still no news about dog, I really want to ring them but then I don't want to bug them either so I spose i'll just have to wait and see what happens. I'm sooooo impatient.

DD has just completely drained me. She didn't get her 10am sleep (well about 10 mins) and so although she shouldn't be sleeping till 3pm she's abso knackered so i've just had to wrestle with her to get her to fall asleep this time. I think its cos DP was still up and she doesn't want to miss time with him.

Ok I dont know what else to put.... sorry but am knackered from DD now. lol

simpson · 04/08/2008 13:58

LuckySalem - DD is draining me too!! At least she now gone up for a nap and DH is due home from work any minute DS had a cough all last week and I think she might be coming down with it so not feeling herself fussing etc.

LuckySalem · 04/08/2008 14:02

It's bad when that happens isn't it? I had all these plans was meant to be going shopping and laundrette and then tidying the living room but she was too tired and now she's asleep I can't do any of them.
Also didn't get my shower this morning cos she didn't get her morning kip. so feeling minging, tired and usless at the mo. lol

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 14:05

simpson dd can sit up with pillows around her and is making attempts to sit up from lying down. She is also really strong on her legs and in the last few days started whizzing around in her walker. Its nice to compare with other babies of the same age as I feel she is behind when you read some of the developmental milestones they should have reached by 6mo.

I'm from the northeast, married with only one dd but definately want another one in a couple of years (can still remember the birth and afterwards all too clearly)

simpson · 04/08/2008 14:05

I know what you mean!! DD has only wanted to be held today as well which hasn't helped. She has been asleep for about 30 mins and have at least got washing machine & dishwasher on I don't want to take DD out today if she is coming down with something so poor DS is cooped up and bored. Oh well he will passed on to DH to look after when he comes in

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 14:07

I always find it hard to get a shower in the morning and I only have one!!
