IssabellasMum - DD sits alone, pulls herself up to stand, walks when you hold her hands for balance, rolls front to back (hasn't got back to front yet)

How are you doing with food? We're all doing lots of different things. DD is currently doing a bit of BLW for brekkie and dinner but has puree lunch.

simpson · 04/08/2008 14:14

Isabellasmam - Your DD sounds ahead of mine Don't have a baby walker but have got a learn & groove activity station and when we put her in it after a few mins she slumps to one side as she gets tired.

She does like her door bouncer though

I was also quite traumatised by Ds's birth and it put me off trying for another for a while but DD's was fine. I even said to DH the day DD was born that I would do it again...mad I know

LuckySalem · 04/08/2008 14:15

Apart from DD's birth there isn't anything that would stop me again to be honest. Pregnancy was fine and apart from her mini or major meltdowns she's a darlin'

simpson · 04/08/2008 14:20

Lucky - that is something that is putting me off. I hate being pg. I hated every minute of it with both Dcs. Also just as I got pg with DD Ds (then 21 mths) decided to give up ALL daytime naps so no rest in day. I really struggled towards the end lifting DS in and out of bath/high chair etc

LuckySalem · 04/08/2008 14:21

I'm not looking forward to that part!! As I had trouble with my back and heartburn.

simpson · 04/08/2008 14:24

I have bad back too since epidural with DS managed without one with DD. I get very bad cramp in my legs when pg.

I still want another though I have to work on DH he is still not sure,as we are not getting any younger!!

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 14:37

simpson how big is your daughter? dd was 16lb 5oz two weeks ago, it has just been recently that she has found her feet, loves to stand and now she has figured out that she can reach/throw/pull things she is a handful.

LS we started weaning at about 5 months, mainly on Hipp organic jars or C&G fruit pots and baby rice/porridge. since then we have tried home-made fruit and veg puree which she has refused (retched and vomited - must love my cooking)and she has now gone off rice or porridge. Thought it was the texture that she didnt like but she will eat a baby biscuit or toast fingers. I've gone back to just milk in the morning and supper and another bottle mid-morning as I was worried about her calcium intake. She seems to sleep better since doing this.

Sorry for the long post, whats blw?

I'm also struggling in getting her to drink juice from a weaning cup.

LuckySalem · 04/08/2008 14:38

BLW - here Its basically where the child eats what you eat (within reason) EG: DD had ommelette last night.

LuckySalem · 04/08/2008 14:39

DD drinks juice from a bottle, I've tried with a cup and she's just not ready for it yet.
We started DD weaning at about 4 1/2 months as she had (can't remember the name now) really bad sickness.

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 14:44

dd uses a bottle for juice too but heard this was bad for their teeth, not that she has any .

are there any major restrictions with blw apart from too much salt or sugar. Or is it just a case of being sensible?

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 14:45

LS how old is your dd?

simpson · 04/08/2008 14:47

Isabellasmam - my DD weighed 15lbs 6oz on friday. She is also more keen on hipp organic or ella's kitchen pouches than my purees although she has got a bit better the last couple of days since I mixed it with her milk and made it very runny. She likes weetabix put only with pureed fruit in to make sweeter She hasn't eaten very much today actually coz I think ahe is coming down with something. She has had a small fromage frais and a fruitapura pot. She has not really got the hang of finger foods yet.

She will drink from a cup with me helping but I only put water in it. Think she has got enough of a sweet tooth

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 14:56

how big was she at birth, she sounds small. my dd can't feed herself very well but will eat finger foods when helped.

she would also drink water from her bottle, i think it was a mistake to give her juice (she loves it.

simpson · 04/08/2008 15:01

Beleive it or not she weighed 8 lbs 1oz!!A decent size but it took weeks before she regained her birth weight though as they lose some to begin with.

The last week or so she is starting to really fill out.Chubby legs and tum. She is not worryingly small or anything just not very long either so everything is in proportion iyswim?

Housemum · 04/08/2008 15:10

Hi Isabellasmam - my DD was a big baby (9lb ) but is now a petite 16lb 7oz, but 71cm tall which is above average. She doesn't do consonants either - raspberries and aaahhhhh. Also, she doesn't laugh unlike my other 2 - she sort goes "huh". Must be developing a sarcastic grunt like her teenage sister... She does move though - rolls over both ways, and sits up pretty well unless you take your eyes off her for half a second!

Nice to see you on the list - most of us have been on here since early pregnancy, a few joined after.

Stick with the water as long as you can - it's sooo tempting when they have nice baby juices, or you want them to try watered down juice that you're drinking, but the longer they drink water the better! (I made the mistake of too much juice with DD1 - not masses, and her teeth are fine, but she is still not a big water fan at 15, we get through buckets of orange squash!)

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 15:13

in the words of my hv, if shes putting on weight then shes doing fine, my dd was on the lower growth curve for a long time but always put on weight so never worried.

think i'll try blw tonight

gingeme · 04/08/2008 15:14

Thankyou Simpson
Welcome Isabellasmam
Right off now to go swimming.
See uoy all later xxx

simpson · 04/08/2008 15:22

Isabellasmam - Thats exactly what I think as long as they are gaining weight they are ok. I got quite a lot of pressure to wean by HV from when DD was 20 weeks but I held out till 25 wks as I did not think she was ready

Well DD has woken up and seems much more sunny however just offered her a bottle and suprise suprise she doesn't want it she just seems bored of milk

Housemum - LOl at sarcastic grunt like a teenager

Gingeme - Enjoy swimming.

Isabellasmam · 04/08/2008 15:24

thanks for the help ladies, i will try blw tonight and see how it goes. dh on his way home from work and dd napping so will go now but will be keeping up to date with the thread.

LuckySalem · 04/08/2008 16:23

Issabellasmum - You basically need to be sensible and stick away from the salt. Apart from that it's pretty much what you eat they eat.

simpson · 04/08/2008 16:35

Lucky - have you tried your DD with tuna? Do you think it will be alright for Los? Ds is eating pasta and tuna for tea and I might offer DD some.

justkeepswimming · 04/08/2008 17:17

hi all
welcome isabellasmam

well dh, ds2 and i are off on our own for 2 days, leaving ds1 with the in-laws.

it has been ok there, but nice to get away too.
dh and i have managed a couple of shopping trips either just us or with ds2 while ds1 stays with pil but we were all getting stressed spending too much time together i think.

basically at home ds1 can be left to his own devices, plays in the garden on his own, etc. but at pils house he has to be followed/watched/neck breathed down 24/7, it can't be nice for him either (he's a bit of a free spirit, lol)

anyway, it's only for a few more days, we'll all go home on friday. not sure we'll sign up to such a long stay again tho

we would so prefer them to come to us, and we could leave ds1 there with them knowing he was happy and safe, so may suggest that for next time. (tho mil is allergic to our 2 cats).
planning something for february (birthday/valentines day/half term) when i will have stopped bf and can leave BOTH boys with them, hooray

lucky - hope you hear soon???

gingeme - hope all boys well and swimming was good.

bluebell - how are things??

love the model pics of amelie

um, all full of colds and coughs here, ds2 has had some really rough nights. ends up puking if he starts coughing just after a feed - needed cloths and nappy changed twice in the night a few nights ago. think it is clearing finally, tho have left ds1 with it for pil to deal with. constant runny noses on kids, yuk!
ds2 has had sore eyes too, plus a new tooth! so teething/cold/cough/phlegmy throat/etc. poor kid.

right, time for a cup of tea before trying to sort out some photos - anyone use iphoto? any tips??

justkeepswimming · 04/08/2008 17:19

oh and i'm still bf.
no af but on mini-pill.

thinking of dc3 for 2010! intend to start ttcing when ds2 is 2, so ds1 will be at school by the time it arrives.

then dc4 2012-ish...

married 2004
ds1 2006
ds2 2008, see the pattern?!?!

betterhalf · 04/08/2008 17:29

Just popping in quickly to say Hello and Welcome to Isabellasmam.

LuckySalem · 04/08/2008 17:38

Feeling all deflated now - They've decided that although I would be a great fosterer that I'm not a good home for this one cos he'd be too bouncy.
I don't know why but this has really upset me. I was really looking forward to having a dog to take for walks and as a security aspect. It seems a really stupid thing to be upset about but I really am.

Simpson - Not tried tuna yet but I'm sure I've been told its ok to have it.
