Louise - yes DD2 has a few little cuddley toys in with her but at the bottom of the cot and since she's in a sleeping bag she's nearer the top. She does have a little taggie blanket which we sometimes find over her head if she's been sucking it (yeauk I know but she loves it - thinking about it, I really do need to wash it!!). Think with DD1 it was similar too with just a few little ones. I think other than the first few weeks when they can't really even move their heads, they will always move around if something is covering their mouths - doubt a little toy could stop them breathing anyway. My advice though (FWIW) is just do what you feel happy with though - there's no point convincing yourself to put loads in with her for when she wakes up if you then spend the evening constantly checking up on her

I really can't believe some of your LO's are crawling already. DD2 is still showing no inclination but stands (with us balancing her) all the time (has for months TBH) - keep thinking she might miss the crawling bit completely?!

Just checked the weath3er for tomorrow as we have a wedding at 1pm and it's gone from being sunny and nice to rain boo hiss

fifisworld · 17/07/2008 15:29

Louise We have a couple of soft toys at the top of the cot as well that Ethan plays with when he wakes up as well...mainly for the same reason as BT

I've put a couple of new pics on

dundeemarmalade · 17/07/2008 15:40

hello everyone. been offline for ages, but all okay here. not really got time/energy to catch up properly as has been weeeeeks since i've been on mn. dd has got two teeth and is getting more, methinks, as she is LOUD LOUD LOUD and keeps puking up puddles of drool. larvely. is now sleeping better hurree hurrah, although i regularly wake up at half one and can't get back to sleep without the lovely bf hormones to help me on my way... we're on 3 meals and gawd knows how many bfs a day, still mostly just gloop although in sardinia the other week (fnar fnar :-)) she did learn to eat bread/biscotti.

Amani · 17/07/2008 15:43

Thanks BT and Beanstermummy - been on tablets for 2 days now and feel no different - how long does it take for the medication to kick in??

Wizzska/Fifisworld - awwwwwww, cute pics!

Louise - that's wierd, BF making you ill?? Glad to hear you're better.

Been making fairy cakes with DD1 today and managed to get half a tub of hundreds and thousands on the floor and now it's everywhere around the house....I've tried cleaning it all up twice and now I just give up......

I don't like comparing, but is anyone else LO not sitting up for more than 20-30 secs? Can't believe some of you have babies who are standing/crawling already....

Beanstermummy · 17/07/2008 16:36

Amani - just a quick on here before I do one from work! I think tablets take a week or so at least to first kick in - once you're sorted you'll find if you forget to take them its a day or so before you notice (wouldn't recommend trying it though!) but as usual, everyone varies. I doubt you'll feel a massive immediate change though as remember your thyroid controls your metabolism so will have lots of different bits to work on and may prioritise certain functions over others?

Anyway - at least you're being treated not and it can only get better.
That's it now - off hame!!

Wizzska · 17/07/2008 20:05

BT - the beach at Broadstairs, we were visiting friends a week or so ago.

Clairey - the cc took 40 mins! We did it about 3 weeks ago. We just left him to cry but visited his room every 5 or 10 mins so he knew he wasn't abandoned. I couldn't believe it worked so well. He slept through that night and most nights since.

Louise - DS has his mouse blanket and a bagpuss soft toy in his cot at night. I don't think they could harm him.

Wizzska · 17/07/2008 20:06

Sorry all, my computer seems to have got a bit over enthusiastic about my previous post!

claraquitetirednow · 17/07/2008 21:03

Hi everyone! This may be a long one as it is my first for a while and may be my last for a while longer as we fly on Saturday and not sure how long it will be before I have the time or energy to post again! We're at my parents house for a few days which should be nice and relaxing but somehow seems to be just as stressful! dd2 is a lot better but still has a very runny bum and I have had to change two sets of her clothes today and clear up puddles of poo from the floor....I am just keeping my fingers crossed that she is better for the flight. Any ideas how to make her poo a little more solid so it doesn't keep leaking out???

I am with whoever said babies seem to either talk or walk early but not usually both (unless you are Claireybee's Uber-child). Dd2 is now "cruising" along furniture, slowly, but she's definitely getting somewhere. But doesn't babble at all - she has said "ga" a few times but it seems fairly random. So I am of those of you whose LO's are babbling.

Ok I am going to try and reply to some of the messages but forgive me as I won't be able to reply to everyone.

skid I am also with you and Beckle on the way men don't seem to have the same reaction to their baby's cries as a mother does. When dd2 cries I stop everything to try and deal with her; he just seems able to carry on as normal. It must be biological.

beckle I found with the IBS just having a diagnosis helped. I took some of those peppermint tablets for a while which calmed the symptoms down a lot; but if I get the pains now at least I know what it is and just knowing that helps me a lot.

MM, Wizz and other dieters I did WW for a few weeks and lost about half a stone, taking me bakc to prepregnany weight, but now want to lose the rest. I have been told I will probably lose it anyway when we get to Pakistan so not too worried!

Loucee I did not go back to work after having dd1, which wasn't planned. It was wierd being a SAHM but I soon got into the swing of things! The thing to do is join lots of groups/activities etc and you will soon meet lots of like-minded mums. However having been at home for three years now I am looking forward to the day when I can get some sort of work again, although am really glad I will be able to spend more time with Martha while she is so young (and so gorgeous!)

Claireybee we made a whole load of Sloe gin while I was pregnant but I have more or less gone of drinking now so have given it all to my very grateful parents! Sorry about rents going up, must be very difficult for you as I guess getting a mortgage at the moment would be impossible. The housing market is such a mess! Sorry we didn't have a freezer or sofa to give away - in the end we let our house fully furnished so it was mostly odd things like a cross trainer and tens machine I was giving away! As well as all the baby stuff.

Wizz - I have to say, that sounds very like teething. Problem with teething is you don't usually know what the problem is until a week or two later when the teeth finally appear. A bit of Calpol should help.

Louise - dd2 has a few stuffed toys and a taggies blanket in her dot - which almost always ends up over her face. I have stopped worrying about it as she is very able to roll around. I wouldn't worry too much about a couple of stuffed toys.

amani sorry to hear about the thyroid problem, I really hope they sort it out. I sometimes wonder if I have thyroid problems but then think the tiredness is probably just down to having a baby and a toddler!!!

Well better stop now before this becomes the longest message in the world. Hi to everyone else and hope to be back in touch once we are safely ensconced on our new home.

PS any ideas on how I can pursuade dd1 that she can't take her duvet and pillow on the plane? she has only just conceded that she can't take her blow-up fifi bed!!!

BouncingTurtle · 17/07/2008 21:35

Claraq - wow can't believe the day has come around so quickly! Best of luck for your journey and I look forward to hearing from you once you have settled into your new home.

Ambi · 18/07/2008 00:05

I will catch up on the goss tomorrow, god I'm so crap at keeping up on here.

becklespeckle · 18/07/2008 00:33

Can't believe it is time for you to go either Clara! Hope the move all goes really well for you (and DD2's tum is better)and you are soon back on here with us! I'm glad the IBS diagnosis has helped calm it down a bit, I guess the stress of worrying what is wrong did not help!

Bouncing, love your new pics, Daniel looks particularly cute in his stetson! Not much advice re: bottle as Evie will either take it or not as she pleases! She always makes it clear she would rather not (feel so guilty), sometimes pulling a face and sometimes screaming her head off! Mind you, she pulls the same face whatever food I offer her too, won't open her mouth for it until she has had a little on her lips to check its okay! When she is screaming I put bonjella on her gums and a little on the bottle teat and this tends to work. I guess the bottle teat is tougher on sore gums than nipple.

Louise, I took all toys from DD's cot as soon as she got more mobile, I also take her snuggle blanket thing off her once she is asleep too although I am a bit of a paranoid person worrier and therefore definitely maybe very a little over protective at times! Do what feels right for you, I'm sure once a baby is rolling around they are safe to have toys as they can move out of harm's way with ease.

Amani, checked the back of Evie's neck today and she has 3 or so little lumps diagonally down from behind her ear on both sides, they move around a little under the skin - I am fairly sure they are glands and sound like your DD's. Will ask the opinion of my friend tomorrow - she used to be a peadiatric nurse so may know!

Loucee, it is a strange thing to go from being a full time worker to being a full time Mum. I did this after DS1 was born and loved it although I did crave adult conversation and company! Toddler groups are great, you can make some really good friends at them. I also found that getting a little evening job helped give me some time-out too, it's not my dream job but I get to just be me while I am there if that makes sense?

Clairey, wow, cruising! Clever boy!

Been checking out the new pics, very cute boys Fifi and Wizz!

Well Evie is getting very very good at getting where she wants to be with a combination of rolling, dragging and digging her feet into the carpet to push herself along! She's so cheeky too, always after things she can't have!

She's still very constipated, straining a lot - maximum effort, minimum output. Giving her extra fruit and gave her some diluted orange juice today. Asked DH to pick up the orange juice while he was out today, he bought the one with bits in... Obviously it wouldn't go through the bottle teat so ended up letting her sip from a cup, needless to say most of it got spat out again!

She's in the local newspaper today too for their baby competition, the winner gets a large canvas print of their baby - something I would love but can't afford - so I have shamelessly emailed loads of friends to ask them to vote for her! Thought of asking my facebook friends too but thought that a step too far...!

becklespeckle · 18/07/2008 00:34

Hi Ambi! cross-posted with you!

Louise76 · 18/07/2008 08:35

Morning

Thanks for your responses re toys in the cot. It has confirmed what I already know - that I am a paranoid worrier!!

The cot looks really bare but dd is sleeping really well and can get herself off to sleep. She has finally started sleeping later than 5am but maybe I'll put some soft toys in her cot for her to look at when she wakes up

Amani - it wasn't the doctor's diagnosis that bf was making me ill, it was mine. I felt a thousand times better once I had stopped (mentally and physically) and now look and feel a bit more like myself 2 months after stopping

Hope everyone has a good weekend

Amani · 18/07/2008 16:13

Thanks ladies!

Would like to say, today is the first time in months that DD2 skin has felt nice and soft with just a few eczema patches on her legs and under her neck... and yesterday she went most of the day without wearing her gloves......

loucee · 18/07/2008 16:51

Hi everyone

GOOD LUCK CLARA, hope the flight goes well and do get back on as soon as you can.

Thanks Clara and Beckle for insight into being SAHM, I went back 3 days a week after having DD but this time I think I'm going to have a break for a bit. Good idea about an evening job Beckle, I might look into that.

Amani, that must be so lovely to see your wee girl without her mitts for a while and to feel her beautiful soft skin. Hpefully she will grow out of it.

We are really tired in this house, DS is waking lots (had 5 feeds between 7pm and 6am). I'm hoping he'll sleep better tonight as he seems to be getting over his chicken pox now.

Hope you have a lovely weekend, Beanster enjoy the wedding

Caz10 · 18/07/2008 22:10

Hi all!

Just to quickly say GOOD LUCK clara!! Very exciting, have a wonderful time, and hope you make it back online soon.

We are all well although could do with a bit more sleep!!

loucee your poor wee ds and poor you too. All the breastmilk will be helping him get better at least. Fingers crossed for a better night tonight. And re work I say take the time off if you can. I am going back and REALLY don't want to, we are doing everything in our power to sort finances so I can go PT asap...I just think they're only little once so make the most of it!! Stuff work!! (although the evening job is a good idea just for a bit of "me-time"). Will your work be ok if you hand in notice? Good luck!

OK off to bed will try to catch up properly tomorrow!

Oh can I ask a question - when does everyone give their LO their last solid meal in relation to bedtime? DD has been so unsettled recently and I'm wondering if I'm not giving her tea long enough to digest.

Thanks!

becklespeckle · 19/07/2008 01:16

Nothing wrong with being a paranoid worrier Louise , you are not alone! DD's cot also looks bare, especially as she sleeps in a Grobag so there are no blankets in there either!

Amani, it must be lovely to feel your daughter's skin all nice and soft and great for her to not have to wear gloves!

Loucee, evening job is okay - not my dream job and I sometimes hate/resent going but its easy work, a bit of a social life, extra money and plus I get to spend all day with my baby while she is still small. My baby DS2 is now 5.5 and I just don't know where that time has gone! Glad DS is getting over his chicken pox now, poor little man.

Caz, Evie has her last solid meal at around 6 and then goes up to bed between 8 and 9 depending how long she takes to have her last milk feed.

Evie's been on her hands and forearms an awful lot today - her new trick I guess! She also made it from the centre of the room over to her toys in the corner and also has a fondness for the TV stand. I think I will really have my hands full once she is crawling!

BouncingTurtle · 19/07/2008 06:02

Caz - ds has tea (when he has it ) at around 4.30-5pm and goes to bed at around 7-7.30pm.

TMI Alert!

DS's poos have been getting more solid but this morning he did his first proper adult like poo!!! Must be all the nanas he's been eating!

I really need to get out more, don't I?

Louise76 · 19/07/2008 08:52

Hello

Amani - good news about your dd's skin. It must be lovely for her to go without gloves

Caz - DD has 'tea' at around 4.30pm then bath at around 6.15 and bed around 6.45/7pm following bottle

loucee · 19/07/2008 20:30

BT some days I have trouble deciding whether it's DD or DS with a dirty nappy! I think DD will be close to potty training soon though so that will help me a bit. I agree, suddenly it went from baby breastmilk poo to wham... plop!

BS I would enjoy having some of my own money, we are getting by ok on just DH's salary but we have cut out luxuries.

Grrr someone scraped my car in a car park today and didn't leave their details. There is a hole in my bumper and I'm so annoyed.

Caz yes it was much better being able to feed DS and help him through the chicken pox whereas with DD she didn't even really want cuddles because she was so itchy.
I am happy with the idea of not going back to work as I knew it for a few years (getting an evening job a couple of times a week feels different to that Monday morning - Friday night slog), it just feels quite daunting as I've always been a really hard worker and had a job since I was 15 etc.
DS has his tea at 5ish then bed at 7ish. Is your DD unsettled going to be or unsettled in the night?

Last night DS didn't have his dummy at all, tonight he fell asleep during his bfeed before bed and when I put him in his cot he started crying so I shhd him and patted his tummy then left the room and he went to sleep - am I naive thinking he will now do that consistently?! It didn't help him sleep any better, 4 night feeds but I am still putting that down to the chicken pox.

BouncingTurtle · 19/07/2008 20:43

Loucee - someone did the same to a friend's car two weeks ago - someone reversed into him when he was at the pictures. He contacted the park security but no join with the CCTV - it's costing him £400 to fix!
If the carpark where you were parked has CCTV, it might be worth contacting the management and having a look in case they caught the culprit on camera.

Jewelsandgems · 19/07/2008 20:53

hello everyone (waves at loucee)

Hoping all your ill Dcs are starting to recover. My neice's daughter has the measles (she is 2.5 and did not have MMR) and she is really ill. My neice is expecting a baby in a few weeks and believes that if she BFs the baby will be protected from measles - is ths correct? Just do not want to imagine a 2 week old with measles

Anyway, all well here. DD2 still not crawling but is sitting up alot more on her own ad is now reaching for things and pulling herself back into sitting position. Also she has started dropping things which gets very annoying! She thinks it's hilarious though watching me retrieving the dropped article.

Am thinking it may be getting close to the time to freecycle the bouncy chair (I feel sad since DD1 and DD2 have used it!) I am also finding it hard to put aside DD2s outgrown babygrows for recycling and find myself saving them! I mean, for what?! I know I could have another baby for really, DH and I are definately thinking no to that!

We went to my parents today and DD2 went through almost the whole day without crying at my dad! She usually watches him all the time and cries if he gets too close - have been trying to get dad more involved in the hope she will get used to him.

loucee · 19/07/2008 21:44

BT good idea, I reported the incident to the police (went into an interview room - scary!) and they said they would follow it up with the shopping centre regarding CCTV. I don't hold out any hope tho.

Jewels DS isn't crawling either, he's only rolled from back onto front twice as well. Regarding immunity through breastfeeding, the baby receives antibodies whilst they are still nursing but that might not protect the baby fully (like my DS getting chickenpox even though I've had it and he's bfed) and once nursing has stopped the baby wont be protected. Did you Niece choose not to have the MMR full stop or did she have the immunisations separately or not at all?
Well done on progress with your Dad and DD2 not crying, my niece was like this with my Dad up until recently (she's 18mths now)
