Skid - you can help with the picnic! Can you find me a wet weather venue - cafe or some such that will be happy to take us in? Are you on the breastfeeding picnic mailing list?

mixedmama · 11/07/2008 09:26

Morning all,

Finally the weekend is upon us.

Had a productive evening last night as DH picked up the boys so blitzed the house and had time for the exercise bike and enough time to make a few purees for DS2.

It is my cousins bday this weekend and my dad is off to Turkey to get everything ready for us (childproof the house etc) so we are all having a nice family meal on Sunday - cant wait.

Not much else going on here.

Waving to you all though.

skidaddle · 11/07/2008 10:08

bouncing - no I'm not on the list but the only place I can think of is the Gala theatre as it is so child-friendly and has lots of space. I can ask them today if you like? What exactly should i be asking?

clara- poor you, sounds like you must be very stressed, hope the IBS gets better once you're on your way - sounds miserable. Do other people think you are mad taking your girls to pakistan? As you've said you will be very safe in the compound and what an amazing experience for them, just as they are beginning to understand the world - i think you are giving them a wonderful gift which they will probably appreciate when they are about oh I don't know 30?

suey - I didn't know what that ipod thing was either. I think deep down i am a technophobe although I manage to conceal it because I work with technology so much. Well done to Millie with her moving around. Am I running as in going for runs? No I certainly am not! Don't think I will until I stop BF tbh as any kind of bouncing hurts my boobs - cycling is my exercise of choice atm.

beanster - def leave him to it - he will appreciate your talents even more that way

Am feeling very saintly today - I have offered to 'babysit' (can you babysit your own babies) while DH goes to a party tonight without me (we couldn;t find a babysitter)and then have the DCs most of the w/e so he can go for a big mountain biking trip. I have also been very good with DTD recently - now I just have to think about what I can demand in return ... any suggestions?

Amani · 11/07/2008 10:23

Skid - very noble of you! I would ask for the same in return (a weekend away) or treat you to something nice...

Amani · 11/07/2008 10:24

Clara - once you settle in Pakistan expect you to put some pictures up!! And Mixedmama when you get to Turkey....

fifisworld · 11/07/2008 15:33

Hello everyone

Not much to add really, Ethan now has 2 teeth poking through..very cute.
Have bf's dd today and she's been a nightmare, my head is banging
Also on a major diet which is starting to get hard as we'd normally be having a chinese tonight but instead ive got to stand and make healthy food..still only 7 weeks until our holidays then i can pig out as much as i want
Will catch up with everyone when my house doesn't resemble a playground!!!

suey2 · 11/07/2008 16:46

GRRRR carphone warehouse cocked up. Don't have iphone. Have had to arrange a totally different phone as i ahve resigned my previous contract.

BouncingTurtle · 11/07/2008 17:39

Suey - read this, think you had a lucky escape!

O2 opens brewery, forgets bottles

Skid - I think I put on the other thread what I would like you to do!
DH definitely owes you big time!

suey2 · 11/07/2008 17:59

thanks for that BT! It made me chuckle! i could have got an 8G which they had put aside for me, but i had signed up for the 16G. I have an 8G nano, never used so on reflection i just loaded that up and have ordered a 3G nokia online instead. For free with a monthly contract.

kelbel · 11/07/2008 21:30

hi all
hope this isnt too insensitive to post for those who arent feeling the best but i am sooooo happy right now. you may recall ds slept on me or dh until he was 6 weeks, wouldnt be put down until about 12, has never taken a bottle, fed every 2 hrs max and never slept through...

all change

he is nearly 7 months and decided i wnted to stop bf, have now totally stopped during day, ds is brill with water and milk from tommee tippee cup, solids are going great, we have a set fab routine so i totally know where i am (and as a fanatically organised freak is music to my ears) also self settling, did our own form of sleep training and worked like a dream.

went out for a meal last night with in laws, champers all night, danced he night away and ds never peeped, he slept til 8.10 this morning! 1st time ever.

i feel so proud of him and me!

BouncingTurtle · 11/07/2008 22:22

Kelbel - that is brilliant news - there is hope for us all yet!
Ds is waking up twice for a feed which actually is an improvement

buzzybee · 12/07/2008 00:11

Well done kelbel, what an enormous change!

DD's first week at creche went well although she was tired and cranky in the evenings. Upside - she slept well during the night! Her poor red bottom much better now too - the fourth tooth well and truly through now thank goodness.

DD1's dad comes back from 5 weeks overseas tomorrow. She is very much looking forward to seeing him and I am looking forward to being a solo mum of one easy baby instead of two! (she will spend next week with him)

What a pain about the phone Suey. I have deliberately not got a phone which is email capable (like a Blackberry) as I hate the thought of my emails chasing me around. Bad enough that these days you feel like you can't leave your cellphone in your handbag in case it rings and you don't hear it!!

Yucky yucky day here. Severe gales (140km/h gusts and heavy rain showers). DD2 asleep ATM but might try and get out for a bit later otherwise we'll go stir crazy.

BT and others who use washables - what washable nappy would be your number one recommendation for ease of use (including ease of washing)? I have people ask me but I don't feel I have enough info to answer!

BouncingTurtle · 12/07/2008 08:30

I love Bumgenius - they are a birth to potty pocket nappy.
I also use Motherease AIO

buzzybee · 12/07/2008 11:37

Thanks BT. I have one Bumgenius, which I bought to try out (I have a dozen Kushies so don't really need more) but have found its a bit of a pain just having the one as the Kushies need an over-wrap and there have been occasions when I've gone out with her in the Bumgenius, gone to change her into a Kushies and discovered I don't have a wrap!
The main thing I dislike about both Kushies and Bumgenius is the velcro which sticks together in the wash, try as I might to stick it down before putting the wash on! I see the Mothersease have poppers - do these work as well as velcro from a "fit/leakage" point of view?

Caz10 · 12/07/2008 20:12

Evening all!

bleuurrrgh I have had the most revolting dose of the flu!! dd was unwell the week before last, she got better, then I got ill!! Thankfully most of it coincided with dh being off shift so I was able to retreat to bed for a couple of days, just saw dd for feeds really and have managed to get rid of most of it I think ...!

Don't think I will ever be able to catch up on what I have missed! But read your post kelbel - well done!!! Now you MUST share your secrets, we are having a total sleep nightmare, would love all the help we can get! What is your routine, would be v interested to see, as it gets closer to return to work date for me I'm feeling the need to be a bit more organised.

Thank you for all the responses re my poor backwards dd ha ha! . She is still no closer to crawling, but I'm taking that one as a blessing! She can sit for ages without help now though, but still hasn't cracked the front to back rolling, which is a pain as she can go back to front then gets stuck.

skid/suey - the expressing experts!! - when and how often are you expressing at work? i still need to make a final decision as to whether I am going to do it or not...I think it might just take up time that would be better spent working so I can get home earlier iyswim, but on the other hand I'm scared my supply drops. BT you are still bf-ing aren't you? What do you plan to do re that when you go back?

loucee how is your throat? And your dd? So sorry I missed you both last week, i was in my bed feeling very sorry for myself! BM your pics are fab!!

clara good luck with your move! hopefully your IBS symptoms might ease off once you get settled there? Very exciting for you all - your family will have such an amazing experience - and most importantly will you have internet access?!

Oooh suey that is my favourite place ever, well places, I used to work over there and also did Boston/NYC/Cape Cod/Vineyard for our honeymoon. Where are your mates in MV? have a fabulous time, make sure you hit sephora best shop ever!

skid I know I should know this but what is your research in again? It must be so hard to stay motivated? I am dreading return to work, aaaargh.

HI to all newbies and bye to all, dd finally asleep, who knows how long for....

clairey are we the only ones left with non-sleeping babies?

Caz10 · 12/07/2008 20:25

Oh I know what I forgot - FOOD!!

Think we are doing reasonably well - am mixing BLW and some spoony stuff, dd seems quite happy with both. Trying to use "real" food but liking these plum pots and organix snacky things for those "lacking in inspiration" moments! Also find the purees are quite good for livening other things up, eg fruit puree in with porridge or on toast, veggie stuff with pasta etc. A fair amount going in, but very inconsistent, eg 3 "meals" one day, none the next!

How are you all doing? The one thing I'm not sure of is when to offer - she is NEVER interested in breakfast, which is around 7am if we've got up at 6am...but always eats a fair bit at 10am-ish, which really shouldn't be a meal time at all! When do you all do your meals? Thanks!

Jewelsandgems · 12/07/2008 20:30

hope you feel better soon caz10. DH thought he was coming down with the flu (man flu of course - the strain on flu which can kill a man) but hopefully it is just a bag hayfever day. Lucky you have your DH and can just rest, as I find that rest is the only thing that realy works.

I can't believe so many of your little ones have so many teeth! DD2 has one little bit poking out and no sign of any others just yet.

Mind you, she is sleeping well right now - til 0600-0615ish and she wakes up singing to herself and playing with her blanket. We have also brought the dreamfeed forward gradually so it is 1030 so DH and I can once again go to bed together and get up together.

Bought some beautiful clothes from babygap today - for DD1 (2.5) and DD2. Also bought lots of babysocks because, I don't know about you, but they all seem to get swallowed by the washing machine! Anyway, have a good supply now.

claraquitetirednow · 13/07/2008 10:46

good morning everyone, the sun is out here at last - i do hope our last week in blighty will be a sunny one....

We're quite well organised but now dd2 has come down with something. She has puked up everything she's had today - all her milk, some apricot puree etc etc etc. Hmmm. She seems fine in herself so hopefully it won't be serious, we have the packers here all day tomorrow so could do without a sick baby as well.

Caz - yes we should have internet access so I will hopefully still be able to post. Altough amani I'm not sure when I will be able to put pics up as I have had real problems getting pictures onto Mumsnet. The only ones I have ever been successful with is a pic from my mobile which my dh had downloaded onto the laptop.....

Hi to everyone else, gotta go, little one is starting to cry and needs extra comfort today...

Oh - caz I loved Sephora too when we used to go up to Miami. I used to buy the Philosphy range from there - about half the price as it is here....

claraquitetirednow · 13/07/2008 15:02

Update - dh has taken dd2 off to A&E, just to be on the safe side. She has been pulling herself up on various bits of furniture lately and yesterday had a tumble after using one of those accordian-style files you use to store papers in as a prop (she's going to be trouble this one...). Anyway it wasn't far but she did brush her cheek on the way down. She cried for a bit but we thought little more of it until I called NHS Direct this afternoon as she has been sick about 5 times this morning and I was starting to worry about dehydration....the long and the short of it was they said to treat it as a "possible" head injury and take her to hospital - strangely I am actually happier now she's gone as hopefully they will be able to check her over and rule out anything majorly wrong with her, which will definitely set my mind at rest....

Right enough from me. Dd1 thinks all her Christmases have come at once today, she's watched so much tv. We're onto Fireman Sam for about the twelth time....

Caz10 · 13/07/2008 15:20

aaaw clara, your poor dd - but you're right you will feel better that she's had a good look over, esp since you're about to leave the country.

good luck on the flight, heee!

claraquitetirednow · 13/07/2008 15:50

Thanks Caz - they are on their way home now, apparently it's a virus, so we'll just have to keep an eye on her for the next 12-24 hours.

Luckily it's a night flight so hopefully they'll both sleep the whole way. When we took dd1 to jamaica as a baby she slept solidly - I think the noise and motion of the aircraft is quite soothing.

Oh, I've probably cursed it now!

suey2 · 13/07/2008 16:04

good luck clara! hope your LO is better. Don't envy you the packing/unpacking.

Caz i BF at 7am, then fully express before leaving the house at 8. Then i express at lunchtime and then give her her normal BF at bathtime and express at 9pm for DH to give 10.30 feed. Don't know where in MV as yet, but very much looking forward to it.

Really peed off i didn't just get the 8G iphone now- it looks really cool - but i have always liked Nokia so we'll see what it is like when it arrives on Tuesday. Got to be better than sony ericson

DD is stillshowing little interest in feeding herself, but more interest in trying to get out of her triptrapp! Still on purees here but i do give her something in her hand whilst i am getting it all ready.

We have also got to lower her bed another notch as she is now pulling herself up to standing using the cotside - giggling away and looking very cheeky whilst she does, too!

BouncingTurtle · 13/07/2008 20:23

Hello everyone, hope you all had a good weekend!
DH and I had friends visiting, we played an RPG game and drank a wee bit too much - Dh and I had a bottle of M&S Sangria and I had a couple of Bailey's as well so I was a little bit merry Didn't seem to bother ds too much - he woke up about 3 times. But this morning I was so tired as I didn't get to bed until gone 1am and didn't sleep until after I fed ds after 2am I brought him into our bed after this. He woke up a 5am, fell asleep after a feed then at 6am, and he mucked about until nearly 7am then I had to get up with him as he kept pulling DH's chest hairs .
Caz - I'm not sure what I am going to do, the problem I have is that ds and I will be apart for about 10 hours . I will bf in the morning, he'll have breakfast, lunch and tea at nursery, then I'll bf him when I pick him before we get home, then again at bedtime, I guess! And however many times during the night- though praying for none!
I have the opposite problem to you - we've cracked breakfast but I am struggling with other meals and he is now going off the idea at times feeding himself except if it is broccoli . He has been rejecting most of the fruit and veg he has happily tried before, but allowing me to spoon feed him yoghurt and fruit purees (as long as he has a spoon as well). I think I am going to make some veg mashes and see if he'll take them - maybe he is just finding the whole process frustrating! Or I'm just timing it all wrong.

BouncingTurtle · 13/07/2008 20:25

Sorry that was a bit me-centric

Claraq - hope dd is feeling better soon! Are you mostly packed yet? Feeling nervous?

Jewelsandgems · 14/07/2008 06:56

Hi all, hope all goes well clarac and do not envy you on the unpacking task! Mind you, we've had the packing/unpacking service in the past and it is brilliant!

I am just posting quickly while DD2 has her bottle (isn't it great when they hold it themselves and you can just leave them to it!) anyway, she is doing really well with the solid food - sorry not the same story for you BT - but I remember DD1 being the same andit coming in phases so I'm sure all will be back to normal soon.

She slept til 0615 again today and with this being about a week, I am hopeful that the 5am wakings are not going to happen as much.

anyway, bottle finished must go!
xx
