fifisworld · 15/07/2008 09:21

BT - I've said that before coz im used to saying it to ds1, then after i said it i felt really

cazzybabs · 15/07/2008 09:29

caz10- I didn't really have time - and you know what its like...some child wants to see you or a collegue etc etc.

Amani · 15/07/2008 10:42

Morning all,

Hope all is well. Took DD2 to the doc yesterday as I discovered a lump at the back of her neck, which got me into panicky mode, but was todl it was normal due to teething and as a result of her eczema. Not happy with doc response as he was running an hour behind and hurridly looked at her...

Oh, also been told I've got an under active thyroid and been told it is likely I have to be on medication for life for it........was a bit annoyed as the GP was rushing me and I don't have the full picture as to what it means....

LOL - at your responses to my short and sweet hello - I didn't have much to say yesterday.....

BT - all the best for your DS settling in sessions at nursery, it is nerve racking for you at first, but give it time and hopefully both you and your son will adjust.

Caz - lol at talking to your boobs

mixedmama · 15/07/2008 10:50

lost all my threads.... off to catch up.

Beanstermummy · 15/07/2008 11:30

Greetings folk.

How bizare the physical or talking thing - fits in with us too - DD2 doesn't shut up and there are a few really distinct words/sounds now - but not even a hint of a crawl. She did decide this weekend that she would sleep on her side and managed to do a few 180's in the cot but no rolling fully over or crawling at all!! Caz10 they can be in the bottom set together! - well for PE maybe but obviously will be in the top stram for English or Drama maybe

Had a jolly weekend at my sisters - she has a really lovely new house (near Alton, Hants) which I'm very jealous of and her boys at 5 and 8 are great too - so so cool to see them interacting with DD2 - while DD1 juat ran around being nutty all weekend - at one point she just ran round and round their big trampoline sining to herself for 15 minutes!! - if she wasn't scarily bright and counting and reading a bit already at just 3 I'd be getting worried!!!!!

I really can't get into my work today - have good friends wedding on Friday and so am playing on the internet to find something original and not tacky for DDs to give them as a wee prezzie - any ideas - the usual horseshoes all seem a bit, well, tacky, IYKWIM - (sorry for any of you who like them!)

Really trying at the moment to encourage DD2 to eat more lumpy stuff - read the BLW stuff and so now try and give her loads to eat herself - while I'm maybe sorting out her mush - going pretty well so far but can't help compare with DD1 who was on toast, jacket potatoes and beans etc by now - looking back I had so much more time I suppose - and DD2 is thriving so trying not to get stressed about it - one thing you realise on MN is that they are all devloping etc at such different rates

Hope you are all having a more motivated day than me

skidaddle · 15/07/2008 14:03

well my little backwards DS doesn't talk OR crawl!!! But he is unbelievably gorgeous so i will let it go for now . Sometimes I do worry and think it is because he gets so little attention but then i realise i am being ridiculous and go back to ignoring him

buzzy - wow, it sounds like your mum is a real bigwig and what a great idea about the childcare centre - best of luck with it

caz10 - that's really interesting about children 'pretending' to read. I have seen my DH doing this as well and he is dyslexic - do you know of any children who have done that and then later been diagnosed as dyslexic?

Caz10 · 15/07/2008 15:10

Hi all!

lol beanster I am suddenly thinking back to my school days when I was utterly useless at sport but top set for English, French etc...hmmm! DH says he has no idea why I'm surprised that dd just seems to sit on her ar$e and chat all day....

Amani · 15/07/2008 15:58

Caz - I was brilliant at Maths (hence my degree) and I was one of the very people in the country to get 100% on my maths and french exams

Amani · 15/07/2008 15:59

Caz - I was rubbish at sport, but discovered I had a knack for basketball even though I wasn't particularly tall.....

claireybee · 15/07/2008 16:15

BT lol at your ds saying mummy to the spoon! You were right btw, ds refused the bottle . Don't suppose it really matters because I'm not planning on leaving him until he's oooh, at least 23 but it would be nice to have the option sometimes!

Suey I think a lot of it is because he is facinated with dd and watches her constantly. Mind you she did things pretty early too so maybe I do just have brilliant children . Something has to make up for the lack of sleep I suppose!

Skid I do not believe for one second that your ds lacks for attention or that you ignore him!

Another lazy arsed linguist here

Amani · 15/07/2008 16:23

Skid - my DD2 does sit up properly on her own let alone crawl (well, she can sit up for about 30 secs then topples over), but I think to myself, all in good time.....don't worry

Beanstermummy · 15/07/2008 16:24

Not sure where I fit in - was sport billy at school and good at Maths and Science (hence being a Civil Engineer) but not too hot with language and 'softer' subjects.

Have found since out of the eduction arena though that you learn very differently and things I used to find hard now are easier - French for one - picking it up easily when away on hols but hated it at school? I know a fair few folks (mainly guys I've worked with on site etc) who were rubbish academically but actually pretty clever blokes in their own field IYKWIM

Amani - don't worry at all about the Thyroid bit. My Mum was diagnosed with an underactive one back in the late 70's when she was 30 odd (apparently early for diagnosis as it's still beleived to be very much an old peoples thing!). It was then passed on to me (down the female line it seems - althopugh neither of my 2 sisters have it) and after managing to convinve the Doctor while at Uni that I wasn't just a typical whinging student who drank too much and didn't sleep enough (well I was but you follow)low and behold I was underactive too. Have now been on Thyroxine for 18 years and other than having to remember to take them, it really has no effect atall. My dose was 150mg per day (which seems pretty standard) before I was PG with DD1 but it went up a bit then (one time when things do go a bit funny and you'll get used to lots of blood tests to keep an eye on it if you have another LO?!) so then I was up to 175mg and have stayed on that ever since - didn't change at all with DD2. Apparently the reason for lifetime medication is that once your body gets used to receiving the hormone artificially it slows down the natural production. I was lucky though as I didn't get too far down the line of horrid body shutting down syptoms - due to my Mum really and them testing me early because of the history. However, 5 Years ago my DH gradually became ill, weight gain, crap skin, no energy etc etc etc and as her was only in him mid 20'd it really wasn't looked at - they were thinking Leukemia but not Thyroid!! Turns out his had just about shut down but now all back to his annoyingly energetic and fit healthy self - although he is in 250mg a day which is about as high as you can get! Anyway - long history there, but don't worry. Both our girls were tagged as possible low Thyroid but nothing has shown up to date - one to watch for the future maybe. Also, on the plus side, as it's an artifical hormone you get a medical exemption certificate for ALL PRESCRIPTIONS oh yes, and as I found out, you are medically unfit for armed service too! There's a fair amount of info on the internet but please shout if you're wanting to pick my brain on it - once you've been on the tablets you should also see some weight loss Not in my case but hey ho!!

Amani · 15/07/2008 16:26

skid - meant does not skit up properly..

Amani · 15/07/2008 16:26

Suger, sugar - skit = sit, where is my brain today??????????

Beanstermummy · 15/07/2008 16:28

Appologies if using the term 'softer' subjects implied to any off you that doing Engineering at uni was harder than other things - just coz we were in lectures all day every day doesn't mean for one minute we were doing anything while sitting there!! I shared with a girl doing Graphic Design and she worked rakes harder than me! Just wasn't sure how to categorise - am I digging myself a big hole here - sorry again

Amani · 15/07/2008 16:33

BT - thanks for that info - wow 18 yrs! Am glad that I have been diagnoised with it, as it answer a few questions: constant tiredness even though I am sleeping 7 hrs at night, and pins and needles sensation in my wrists. I've been told to start on the lowest dose of 25mg and then to go to the GP after 2 months for another blood test and review. Well trying to be positive about it - as you put it weight loss , but my DH has been very worried since yesterday and kept giving me lots of hugs and kisses...

Amani · 15/07/2008 16:33

Sugar, sugar again - meant beanstermummy not BT...gping to go now before I completely fall flat on my face....

claireybee · 15/07/2008 16:34

How are you insult my degree

claireybee · 15/07/2008 16:35

that was how dare you obviously, not how are you! Don't worry amani it isn't just you!

Beanstermummy · 15/07/2008 16:38

Arse - I knew it'd end in tears if we started on the education bit!! bet mine is better that your's though - NOT!! But at least I got to play with Meccano and build things in concrete And was one of only 10 girls out of 4 years of blokes........ there's got to be some benefit in getting a job working in jeans and boots surrounded by hairy arsed guys all day - that's jsut reminded me why I now do the project management and don't go on site much anymore!!!! Let alone the 2am starts in February at Shap summitt!!!!!! Ahh joy.

claireybee · 15/07/2008 16:45

lol. Playing with mecano does sound lot more fun than conjugating verbs I must admit. The highlight of mine was spending a year getting drunk studying in France

loucee · 15/07/2008 17:07

Hi everyone

Not been on for ages as DS now has the chicken pox. Poor wee guy has hundreds of spots.

Amani, interesting what your symptoms are for underactive thyroid, I had it during pregnancy but not enough to be prescribed medication but recently I have pins and needles in my hands and am constantly tired so perhaps I'll ask to be tested again.

Sorry, ot to dash DS is really uncomfy

Hi to everyone!

BouncingTurtle · 15/07/2008 20:47

Hello! Busy day today, been running around all day it seems!
Hope everyone as well

Jewelsandgems · 15/07/2008 22:03

hello everyone yes sorry about your thyroid amani but at least you know what it is, and so your mind does not worry about other worse things (or you get curious and start googling your symptoms - confirmation that we are all about to die for sure)

All quiet here but DD2 has a rash. Kind of raised bumps, and redness but just in patches around her mouth and then - more recently - around the outside side of her eyes. DD1 had this same thing around her mouth and we were told dribble rash it will go and it did. But, this cannot be same if appearing around her eyes can it? Anyone heard of this? Any remedies (my friend suggested aloe vera) but have docs booked for a week today - does not bother her but she looks all splotchy!

Having a glass of wine before the 1030 dreamfeed - where did this evening go?!!

Sorry for quick selfish post but BB now on.... I know it is sad.

loucee · 15/07/2008 23:49

Jewelsandgems, does your DD2 have any cold symptoms? I know slapped cheek is doing it's rounds in our area - maybe a possibility?
